The article presents selected issues concerning the modelling of the supply chain in the evaluation of the efficiency of tasks realization. In the process of determination, efficiency of the functioning of the supply chain it is necessary to determine the components of both the effects and expenditures in quantitative terms. It is assumed that the effect resulting from action taken depends on the problem under consideration, for example, the result may be the amount of the profits, savings resulting from implemented solutions or measurable improvement of the quality system, expressed e.g. percentage. While the outlay incurred for the implementation of the action is, in general, the expense of implementing this action. The article pointed out that the assessment of the efficiency can be used to decide on the choice of a decision of the many variants of solutions to the problem. In this respect, important are indicators of the efficiency both the technical, economic, quality, and organizational. In the article were also presented possible approaches to improve the efficiency of the supply chain. In the problems of assessing efficiency of functioning of systems with a complex functional structure such as supply, chains increasingly are applicable algorithms based on the so-called heuristics. Hence, in the article briefly have been characterized also chosen heuristic algorithms – genetic algorithms.

The study presents an important part of fourth chapter of the monograph 'Energy Consumption in Relation to Fuel Efficiency Under Complex Driving Conditions' (2003) concerning opportunities to improve vehicle drive efficiency through application, during one phase of driving in neutral in two-phase driving cycle. Theoretical simulation of total energy consumption in vehicles with SI engine provided explanation of a relatively low fuel efficiency observed under real driving conditions in serial cars [1]. The study cites the original method of calculations developed by the author in order to calculate the efficiency of vehicle power unit in two-phase driving cycle assuming that one of the phases might be non-driving. The calculations were made for complex driving conditions, i.e. simulated changes with predefined steps for road slope (-3.5o to 3.5o), acceleration (-0.36-0.36 m/s2) and average speed (60-140 kmph) for a distance of 2x500 m. The results of calculation variants for each type of a drive system of a car proved that there are significant limitations of optimising the fuel consumption of cars. The first one is conditioned by the fact that the engine works at full dynamic load and the second one by the fact that idle running is against the 'Highway Code'.

Cycloidal gear is characterized by [2]: – Large ratio (up to 171:1) from one stage of reduction, which minimizes the weight and dimensions of the reducer. – Minimizing the centrifugal forces as the only high-speed element is the input shaft with an eccentric bearing. – Minimizing internal clearance due to simultaneous meshing of a large number of teeth. In contrast to gears with involute teeth, 10-50% of teeth are found in cycloidal gears with simultaneous meshing. It depends on the size of the gear and the load. The minimum number of teeth engages when running in bulk. – Low noise and low vibration for large torques and variable speeds. – High efficiency in a wide range of loads, because rolling elements are used in every place responsible for the transfer of torque. – Permissible load up to 500% of the rated torque. All above mention point lead into long-term and trouble-free operation, however the above features require high accuracy. The article described comparison of efficiency, vibration and noise obtained for 3 cycloidal gear modules: 1. Two-disc gear with single rollers for both discs (Chmurawa prototype [1]). 2. Three-disc gearbox with separate rollers for each disc (new idea) with gear components: output shaft with pins, housing with rollers (wheel with internal tooting), and input shaft, made with the manual lathe. 3. The same three-disc gearbox with output shaft with pins made with the CNC. Different levels of accuracy and thus corresponding vibration patterns were obtained.

The paper presents an approach to the assessment of the location of facilities in the warehouse logistics network with the efficiency of its operations. Determination of efficiency of complex systems of this type should take into account wide range of issues. The system efficiency results on the one hand from the efficiency of its action and on the other hand from the ability to use available system elements to achieve the objectives. Efficiency is a main criterion to the evaluation of the activity both at the level of the whole system, as well as in its subsystems or components. Most often, it refers to the principle of rational management formulated in two variants: performance (maximization effect) and economical (minimizing effort). The article poses the thesis that based on studies of speed and reliability of execution of tasks it is possible to assess the potential locations of warehouse facilities in the studied logistics network. Were also presented factors affecting the efficiency of the functioning of individual cells of the logistics network. Was pointed to the technical, economic, organizational and reliability aspects affecting the efficiency and reliability of the logistics network in terms of both supply and distribution. It was also presented a modular block diagram of an assessment method for localizing logistics facilities in the logistics network.

As far as the current rules involved in business enterprise operation process are concerned, one of the most significant characteristics is specified by the need of engaging economic criterion in all procedures involved. Thus, it is required to introduce deep and extensive analysis concerning economic aspects ofpassenger transport. First of all, it is essential to specify currently existing demand for passenger transport service and compare it in relation to the supply capabilities offered by a transport enterprise. Business advantages created by the enterprise are also necessary to be considered and analysed. The basis for transport enterprise operation should be provided with order placed by Passenger Transport Executive, subcontracting firm of a chosen line according to valid schedule including both, rush and after-rush hours. In order to avoid any possible difficulties it is very important that the hired company is informed about all factors influencing economic efficiency of the serviced bus line. As a result, subcontractor is enabledto make right decisions and eliminate potential problems. Important processes having a considerable influence on proper functioning and effectiveness of public means of transport are connected with its usage, diagnosing and making it fitness for use. Operation effectiveness aspects that are the most frequently discussed in professional literature is described as relations existing between the profits and the input. It takes form of difference or quotient of the values mentioned above. This paper presents evaluation and analysis method controlling different means of transport operation system effectiveness. Method developed with the aim of analysing and evaluating public means of transport operation effectiveness, provides managerial staff with feedback, which is helpful as far as taking right decisions, is concerned. Making proper choices has a great influence on the process and it bears the responsibility for functioning of the system in terms of reliability and cost efficacy. Certainly, the more professional service is, the more satisfied customers are. Moreover, customer demands are more likely to be met, which means that all involved procedures related with functioning of the system are carried out in the accordance with regulations and reguirements, being currently inforce.

The most common design solution are cycloidal gearboxes with two discs, in which the reaction forces of bearings from the working discs create a bending moment on the high-speed input shaft, additionally affecting bearings. In the article are presented the results of tests of the cycloid gear prototype with three discs. Instead of the second disc, the introduction of two side discs, 1800 from the centre disc, allows you to reduce this moment to zero. To compensate for the unbalance of the shaft, the side discs have half the width of the centre disc. Each disc works with its own, separate set of bronze rollers, separated by Teflon washers, which should reduce the friction forces. In the article are presented the results of the tests of the cycloid gear prototype determining basic parameters such as efficiency, torque fluctuations on the input and output shaft, housing vibrations in three directions. FFT analysis of registered parameters showed high compliance of the designated frequencies for different measured signals. The assumed advantages, i.e. high efficiency and low vibration level in the tested range, were confirmed. The results are presented in the form of three-dimensional graphs as functions of speed and torque. High efficiency (80-90) % was obtained for load moments above 150 Nm, which is practically independent of the rotational speed with which the cycloid gearing works. The oil temperature during the tests was maintained in the range of 36oC ± 2oC. The maximal torque of the cycloidal gear was 500 Nm.

The study examines the effect of transformation ratio in power transmission system on engine efficiency as a function of passenger vehicle velocity (m = 1400 kg) with energy-saving vehicle drive. The study also presents working range in driving phases for energy-saving speed control up to 120 km/h for a simplified overall engine performance map for SI engine. Understanding of the presented considerations can be facilitated through relating with advantages of application of non-driving phases in low engine load phases (field 4 in overall engine performance map). Working points of SI engines in engine performance maps were divided in terms of energy-saving vehicle speed control into 4 ranges. Zone l is the most economic whereas zones 3 and 4 are the least energy-saving, which was also discussed by the author in other works. The study presents the location of engine working points in overall engine performance map during energy-saving vehicle speed control within the range of 30-120 km/h using two different 6-gear gearboxes. Working range for CI engine in simplified overall characteristics in truck, the impact of speed control upon fuel consumption in real traffic conditions, sum and difference characteristics of components of drive engine unitary power, area of maximal rise in overall engine efficiency after reduction of rotational speed, simplified SI engine performance maps, covering with economic zone of working point in energy-saving drive of vehicles are presented in the paper.

Transportation works are important link of every production activity and they considerably affect the producing costs. The study present the analysis of working efficiency of transportation means using the example of meat processing factory. To solve the problem, the structure of transporting routes covered at analyzed works, number and localization of goods receive sites as well as the amounts and types of transportation means used must have been determined. Then the software making possible to evaluate the efficiency of transportation means work at a production facility was worked out. Calculations were performed using data from meat processing works in Górno. The work efficiency results for particular vehicles used to transport produced goods to shops were presented in a form of indicators in tables. Performed study revealed that mean amount ofcarriages under analyzed conditions was 0.492 t, average effective work time 1.39 h, average operative work time 6.5 h, mean uploading and unloading time 2.2 h. Average efficiency of transportation means during the effective time was 0.37 t/h, while during operative time 0.07 t/h, mean labor inputs 10.9 working hours, mean distance coveredwith no load 36.9 km, whereas with a load 69.3 km.

The paper presents experimental studies of a drive system with a lead screw. The concept and the construction of the test stand, its parameters as well as the applied measuring apparatus and the scope of tests are described. Furthermore, a measuring system and a methodology of determining the loads on the nut of the lead screw, based on the strain gauge measurements, were developed. A special nut bracket with specimens for the strain gauge measurement was designed. Since the specimens are simultaneously subjected to tension, two plane bending and non–free torsion, a coefficient essential for determining the torque on the nut of the lead screw was estimated based on the finite element analysis of the nut bracket under complex load condition. The first part of experimental studies includes the determination of the efficiency of the lead screw and the efficiency of the typical drive system with the lead screw. The impact of the load level and the constant resistance in the system are included in the research. The second part of the study concerns the determination of dynamic load coefficients for various operating parameters. The efficiency of the lead screw and the efficiency of a typical drive system with the lead screw as well as the dynamic factors at start–up and braking were determined based on experimental tests referred to a ball screw.

The article deals with an issue of complex systems operation efficiency, especially of the ones which are connected with transport. The operation of such systems aims at developing both passenger and load transportation in terms of safety, reliability, effectiveness and environment friendliness. These properties should be researched in a particular place and time that were earlier planned and selected. Operation effectiveness is an important component ofwidely understood social-economic and technological research, including assessment of the considered transport system. The concepts of operation efficiency, most frequently used in literature, express it as the relation between benefits (treated as profit or income in terms of economy) and costs. However, a ratio of two quantities, the flrst of which is evaluated positively, that is, aims at reaching the highest values and the other one being negative, is considered as the most important definition of efficiency. In some cases these quantities can assume constant values, treated as basic ones. It should be remembered, though, that in many cases the system goals are formulated in different terms than, e.g. economic ones. And the systems should be evaluated taking into consideration the goal achievement degree. The article deals with an analysis of distinguished values of selected assessment indices for an investigated transport system, and on this basis an assessment of the transport system operation efficiency, in a given period of time, has been made.

Nowadays, increasing number of machines and off-road vehicles are equipped with elastomeric, mainly rubber, tracked chassis. Rubber tracks and belts combine the most important advantages of both: pneumatic tires and conventional tracks made from metal links. In spite of significant benefits, rubber tracked chassis is a novel and uncommon design solution, as the application of rubber tracks and belts still brings up many severe problems. Consequently, an urgent need to overcome these problems exists. In The Division of Off-Road Machine and Vehicle Engineering (DORMVE) an intensive research, pertaining to rubber-tracked chassis has been conducted for many years. In the very beginnings, the investigation was carried on in cooperation with German companies INTERTRACTOR, IAMT and IBAF. As a result, numerous original and innovative design solutions, which became a subject of European, American and Japanese patents, were developed. However, some issues have not yet been resolved. Present research of DORMVE is aimed at identification of problems concerning energy efficiency of rubber-tracked chassis. The main objective of current investigation is to improve the energy efficiency. To do so a comprehensive optimisation process is to be carried out. Within the following article, a classification of aforementioned problems will be discussed. Research facilities in laboratory of DORMVE and exemplary results, which have already been obtained, will be also presented.

The relation between engine principal dimensions, i.e. piston diameter to stroke ratio is the parameter often modified in order to increase engine efficiency and durability. A similar operation is the achievement of given volume for different number of cylinders, which is the subject of the following paper. For recent years the engine manufacturers have been proposing in-line engines of 3, 4, 5 and 6 cylinders more eagerfy than in last century. Obviously engines of lesser cylinder number are proposed for small car s while those of greater number - for most dynamic ones. One can ask a question whether the cylinder number for a certain swept volume affects such parameters as engine efficiency and durability as well as lube oil consumption. There is no simple answer to this ąuestion but simulations performed by the author allow estimating tendencies in changes of those parameters for various numbers of cylinders. Moreover, it is quite vital that engine complex modifications accompanying the change in cylinder number have been taken into consideration in a course of carried out tests. Lesser number of cylinders for the same volume results in more solid pistons and connecting rods, worse engine run irregularity and soon. The paper presents introductory conclusions which allow selecting an engine of the cylinder number that ensures the best economical and dynamical parameters for a given car.

The handling operations are the inseparable element of production processes. The percentage of this type of work, in reference to other production activities, can reach even high levels bringing the increase of expended costs. The capital consumption of handling works affects the improvement of a proper selection of means to assure the production profitability. An important issue of selecting the handling means is based on their work efficiency evaluation. The paper contains the description of the software (developed at The University of Life Sciences in Lublin), that would be helpful in solving the real problems associated with the selection of the continuous handling means used for works planned to do during a production process. The described software is an application consisting of forms that reflect divisions of means for continuous handling and connected databases for storing auxiliary information and results of calculations performed. The principle of the software is based on making calculations of the work efficiency as well as exploitation costs for continuous handling means. Additional values are: ease of data input and search for means characterized by possibly the lowest exploitation costs. Correctness of the software functioning was verified on an example related to comparison of three conveyor types.

The paper presents selected aspects of the evaluation of the effectiveness and risks of the logistics chain that supports the enterprise. It was assumed that the logistics chain includes all activities associated with the flow of materials from the sourcing of raw materials for sale to the ultimate purchaser of the product and the disposal of used products. It was found that the elements of the supply chain are usually unstable which generates difficulties in determining the appropriate level of the risk of the chain. The paper presents a formal record of risk and performance. There is proposed determination of the effectiveness of individual links of the logistics chain. The task of the logistics chain is to provide goods from producers to the final customers, thereby making available these goods in a place and time suited to the needs and expectations of customers. The movement of goods in the logistics chains is determined by the sequence of interrelated actions. In the logistics chains, many entities are involved to different extents. This determines the spatial distribution of different configuration of individual users of the whole logistics chain. In particular, example of a logistics chain of production company, stages of the procedures for quantitative risk analysis, the problems in the logistics chains, assessment of the risk of the task in the logistics chain, the concept of risk, effectiveness and risk in logistics chains are presented in the paper.

This paper presents theoretical basis for evaluation of the transport system operation quality. A general evaluation model was built, and further part of the paper is to consider the theme of damageability of the means of transport, as a reliability feature, constituting one of the most important criterion to evaluate the transport system operation. Based on the analysed references in question as well as on the results of our own research it has been found that the damages to the means of transport, being utilised within the transport systems, are a result of interaction of various forcing factors. Some number of the damages results from natural wear of the means of transport elements, which is a natural phenomenon, while the remaining damages may be caused by an inefficient repair of the previous damage. This leads to so called secondary damages to the repaired element, occurred within a short time interval, which is a proof of inappropriate organization of the repairs, poor training level of the repairing teams, limits related to pre and after repair diagnosis, which directly affects reliability of the means of transport and consequently the operation quality of the transport systems in which they are being operated and maintained. Based on the analysis of the investigation results it has been found that the primary damages are independent on one another and they occur randomly. The secondary damages are dependent, because their occurrence depends on prior occurrence of the primary damage and the effect of its improper repair or improper repair of the next secondary damage.
