Opis:
In the paper the mathematical and numerical descriptions of the general case of thermal contact between two flat bodies are presented. The numerical model of the problem is based on the Finite Element Method (FEM). Variable width of the contact gap between interacting bodies is considered. The model allows the use of independent spatial discretization of the contacting components, which means that the edges of the finite elements lying on the both sides of the contact gap need not be matched. The algorithm of treatment of the fourth kind boundary condition is described in details.

Opis:
The thin metal film subjected to the ultra-short laser pulse is analyzed. Heat transfer processes occurring in the domain considered are described by the dual-phase lag model in which the unknown is the heat flux, not, as usual, temperature. This approach is especially convenient in the case of Neumann boundary conditions, which are taken into account here. The mathematical model supplemented by initial conditions is solved using the explicit scheme of finite difference method. In the final part of the paper the examples of computations are shown and the conclusions are formulated.

This paper contains the results of the load analysis of a modular hip joint endoprosthesis, performed by means of the finite elements method, using Autodesk Simulation Mechanical 2016 software. A geometric model was created based on real solutions using Autodesk Inventor Professional. The obtained results make it possible to indicate the “weak points” of the accepted solution, and thus counteract the subsequent effects resulting from premature wear of endoprosthesis elements.

The paper presents the current state of the Real Time Finite Element Method (RTFEM) and describes results obtained by the author. The RTFEM for microcontrollers (with examples of use cases) is presented and results of the computations for the chosen platform are given. The results consider optimization of RTFEM computational algorithms for a microcontroller taking into account their execution time. All the tests were performed on the ARM-CortexM4F based STM32F429ZIT6 microcontroller. The obtained results were compared, discussed and presented in the paper.

The paper is focused on the mathematical and numerical approaches for the thermoelasticity problem in the three-dimensional domain. The mathematical description of considered problem is based on the second order differential equations of elasticity with the term describing thermal deformations. The numerical model uses the discontinuous Galerkin method which is widely used to solve the problems of hydrodynamics. The presented paper shows the possibility of using the mentioned method to solve the problem of thermomechanics.

The paper focuses on the mathematical and numerical modelling of the thermoelasticity problem in the three-dimensional region. The governing equations of the mathematical model are a set of equilibrium equations. The numerical model uses continuous Galerkin formulation together with the Finite Element Method (FEM). Both models are discussed in detail. The final set of FEM equations is derived. The example of numerical calculations obtained with the use of an original computer program is presented. The main goal of presented paper is to develop the alternative model to the one based on the Discontinuous Galerkin Method (DGM).

Opis:
A mathematical model is developed to study the characteristics of blood flowing through an arterial segment in the presence of a single and a couple of stenoses. The governing equations accompanied by an appropriate choice of initial and boundary conditions are solved numerically by Taylor Galerkin’s time-stepping equation, and the numerical stability is checked. The pressure, velocity, and stream functions have been solved by Cholesky’s method. Furthermore, an in-depth study of the flow pattern reveals the separation of Reynolds number for the 30 and 50% blockage of single stenosis and 30% blockage of multi-stenosis. The present results predict the excess pressure drop across the stenosis site than it does for the inlet of the artery with single and multiple stenosis and the increase in the velocity is observed at the center of the artery.

Thermal processes in the domain of a human forearm are considered. The external surface of forearm is in the direct thermal contact with the environment. The steady state problem is considered. From the mathematical point of view, the task is described by the system of the Poisson-type equations, the boundary conditions given on the contact surface between tissue sub-domains, the boundary conditions determining heat transfer between blood vessels and tissue and the boundary conditions on the external surface of the system. The non-homogeneous forearm domain is reconstructed as accurately as possible (3D task). At the stage of numerical modelling, the finite element method has been used. In the final part of the paper the example of computations is presented.

The paper presents analysis of stress distribution in the friction node of knee joint endoprosthesis where sleds are made of various titanium and CoCrMo alloys and cooperate with flat polyethylene inserts. Currently used titanium alloys consist of Nb, Ta, Zr or Mo and with lesser value of Young’s modulus than Ti6Al4V alloy, or steel CoCrMo, which significantly varies from other metal materials. The analysis was conducted with numerical method of ADINA System 8.6. The Finite Elements Method makes it possible to compute and present stress distribution quickly in all elements of the model.

The presented work is focused on the basis of mathematical and numerical descriptions of the binary alloy solidification problem. The mathematical formulation is based on the so-called substitute thermal capacity, which implies a change in the specific heat of solidifying material. In the literature one can find many ways to define this parameter. Five models, differing in the description of the substitute thermal capacity as well as the numerical model using the finite element method (FEM) are considered.

The emphasis is primarily on using the rod-like and beam elements for modeling the contact phenomena in the ball-raceway contact zone. In addition, ideas for use of the beam elements to modeling bearing bolts were presented.
