Opis:: The globalization of the world economy and the processes associated with the liberalization of trade, capital flows and technology produce certain effects for the development of the agricultural sector. This study is aimed at identifying determinants of the development of the pork market on a global scale. The analysis includ changes in pork production, foreign trade and the activities of the biggest leaders in the pork market. Literature studies, including reports AHDB and USDA were used in the research. The analysis shows that the increasing demand for food and the high cost of production is a global challenge for pork producers. Increases of industrialization and concentration of production have been found allowing the use of economies of scale. The activities of transnational corporations that invest capital is becoming increasing important where highest profits are achieved. The competition in international trade is growing, mainly from countries in North and South America which have a price advantage in exports.

Opis:: Value creation is indispensable in enhancing agribusiness performance. However, there is a need to identify priority areas to unlock industry potential. The study sought to highlight particular areas within the Zimbabwean pork industry where value creation could offer the industry advantage. A survey of 24 pork butchers, 6 pork processors and 166 pig farmers from Mashonaland Central Province was utilised in the study. Descriptive statistics, correlation, ANOVA and multiple regression were used to analyse the data. The results highlighted that the industry regarded value creation through advantage in the acquisition of inputs, goods and services, production/processing, and logistics, which consequently makes those key target areas. Furthermore, the created value (profit/cost ratio) was influenced by the category of agribusiness, distance to markets, business practice and socio-economic dynamics of the business decision-makers. In conclusion, production and processing, as well as inbound logistics, were identified to be less effective in value creation. However, increasing transportation advantage will likely improve value. The study recommends that the pork industry leverage on production/processing, inbound logistics and transportation. Policy implications relate to the creation of a conducive environment in input procurement and transportation. The study adds insights for business strategy and policy formulation, aiding in enhancing turnover and strategic positioning

Opis:: The purpose of the research study is to present the principles of pork production in Poland especially in the context of national food security and safety. The article presents a synthetic view of the Polish pig sector situation after the UE integration. The author highlights the problems of pig producers as the basic element of the food chain. The study was based on the data of national statistics, industry reports, and national and international literature review related to the issue of pig market problems in Poland. In this paper, the importance of exogenous and endogenous factors and their implications for the pig supply chain in Poland and the role of it in the high and constantly improving level of food safety in the country was also emphasized.
W opracowaniu podjęto problem zmian w produkcji wieprzowiny w Polsce. Rozważano go w kontekście bezpieczeństwa żywnościowego kraju oraz bezpieczeństwa żywności. W artykule dokonano syntetycznej prezentacji sytuacji polskiego sektora wieprzowiny po integracji z UE. Wskazano na sytuację producentów trzody chlewnej jako podstawowego ogniwa łańcucha żywności. Badania oparto na danych krajowej statystyki publicznej, raportach branżowych krajowych i zagranicznych oraz przeglądzie literatury związanej z zagadnieniem problemów sektora produkcji trzody chlewnej w Polsce. Podkreślono znaczenie czynników zarówno o charakterze egzogenicznym, jak i endogenicznym, a także wskazano na potencjalnie nowe potrzeby w zakresie wsparcia bezpieczeństwa żywności i życia mieszkańców obszarów wiejskich w Polsce.

Opis:: This paper analyzes the issues of social responsibility of businesses in the agri-food sector, with the applicable requirements being considered in the context of the initial links of the pork supply chain. It describes the production conditions in farms and agricultural holdings with reference to organizational and environmental requirements. Also, it shows the role of cooperation between pork producers and processors which assumes the ability to put in practice the principles of social responsibility in agribusiness. Particular attention was paid to the role of humans as a key entity enabling the implementation of CSR requirements. These issues were presented in the context of Polish experience in dealing with the African swine fever (ASF).
W artykule analizowano kwestie społecznej odpowiedzialności biznesu sektora rolno-żywnościowego. Jej postulaty odniesiono do realiów początkowych ogniw łańcucha dostaw wieprzowiny. Opisano uwarunkowania produkcji w gospodarstwach i przedsiębiorstwach rolnych w aspekcie wymagań organizacyjnych i środowiskowych. Przedstawiono rolę współpracy między producentami mięsa wieprzowego a jego przetwórcami, zakładającą możliwość praktycznego wdrażania zasad społecznej odpowiedzialności agrobiznesu. Szczególną uwagę skoncentrowano na roli człowieka jako kluczowej jednostki realizacji postulatów CSR. Kwestie te przedstawiono na tle dotychczasowych doświadczeń z afrykańskim pomorem świń (ASF) w Polsce.
