    Opis:
    Some critical interpreters of Kant’s ethics accuse it for not corresponding to our common moral convictions. Kant claims that we are not allowed to lie to a murderer at the door even when he wants to kill his victim being our friend hidden by us. In this paper I argue against the opinion that there is a sufficient justification for this restriction in Kant’s ethics. If we reconsider the central point of Kant’s moral theory, which is categorical imperative, we will find several arguments for accepting lying in some cases. What is more, in extreme situations we are obliged to lie, for example when it is the only way to save the innocent victim’s life. Thus, one can suggest that Kant interpreted his own theory in a wrong way. In conclusion, I advocate for the view that, after all, Kant’s theory remains in agreement with the common moral intuitions.

    Niniejszy artykuł został opracowany na podstawie mojej pracy licencjackiej Oświecenie według Michela Foucaulta - uwagi w sprawie koncepcji etosu nowoczesności napisanej pod promotorstwem dr Marcina Marii Bogusławskiego, obronionej 13.07.2018 w Instytucie Filozofii Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego. Większość fragmentów widocznych w artykule zaczerpnąłem z owej pracy, zmieniając je nieznacznie ze względu na wymogi formalne obecnego tekstu.
    In the article I analyze the idea of the Enlightenment in Michel Foucault’s philosophy. Also, I analyze a few possible practices of parrhesia which Foucault has been studying during his career. I try to show up the connections that in my opinion exist between these two issues. I describe the idea of ethos of modernity as the „methodological frame”, which can be analyzed as a kind of „clue” for the subjective action in modernity. Parrhesia, then, can be a specific action that we can practice as the ethos of modernity.

    The following paper provides a historical and biographical introduction to the reading of the translation of Kant’s essay Von einem neuerdings erhobenen vornehmen Ton in der Philosophie. It consists of three parts. In the first one, called Introductory remarks, I point out the specific role of Kant’s polemical writings in his work. In the second, Protagonists, I outline the biographies of both of Kant’s opponents: J. G. Schlosser and Friedrich Leopold Graf zu Stolberg-Stolber. Finally, in the third one, I discuss a number of translation problems with the terms “Ahnung” and “ahnen”.

    Gottlob Frege abandoned his logicist program after Bertrand Russell had discovered that some assumptions of Frege’s system lead to contradiction (so called Russell’s paradox). Nevertheless, he proposed a new attempt for the foundations of mathematics in two last years of his life. According to this new program, the whole of mathematics is based on the geometrical source of knowledge. By the geometrical source of cognition Frege meant intuition which is the source of an infinite number of objects in arithmetic. In this article, I describe this final attempt of Frege to provide the foundations of mathematics. Furthermore, I compare Frege’s views of intuition from The Foundations of Arithmetic (and his later views) with the Kantian conception of pure intuition as the source of geometrical axioms. In the conclusion of the essay, I examine some implications for the debate between Hans Sluga and Michael Dummett concerning the realistic and idealistic interpretations of Frege’s philosophy.

    The article delivers a commentary to Hannah Arendt’s 1949 essay The Rights of Man. What Are They? The author argues, that the concept of “the right to have rights”, which Arendt introduced in this early text, bears significant relevance for contemporary political situation worldwide. The subsequent parts of the article (1) present the two fundamental features of the situation of the rightless, which are brought up by Arendt, (2) describe “the right to have rights” as an insurmountable problem of modern times and (3) refer to possible solutions of the issue proposed by O. Höffe and S. Benhabib.

    Nowadays still not well known, Konrad Fiedler was an extremely original philosopher of art and an inspiring follower of Kant. He created a theory of art’s autonomy and his pioneering thought contributed not only to the formalist theory of art but also and foremost to creating an epistemology that later became a foundation of theories of art stressing the uniqueness of seeing and raising the status of visual representations. The artistic way of seeing, according to him, undiscloses the principles of how the world emerges from nothingness of chaotic sensations – it is the way of seeing that presents „pure visibility”. According to Fiedler, this way of seeing is the basis of each true artistic creative act.
