Opis:
The applicability of approximate NARX models of non-linear dynamic systems is discussed. The models are obtained by a new version of Fourier analysis-based neural network also described in the paper. This constitutes a reformulation of a known method in a recursive manner, i.e. adapted to account for incoming data on-line. The method allows us to obtain an approximate model of the non-linear system. The estimation of the influence of the modelling error on the discrepancy between the model and real system outputs is given. Possible applications of this approach to the design of BIBO stable closed-loop control are proposed.

Opis:
Nonlinear control of the squirrel induction motor is designed using sliding mode theory. The developed approach leads to the design of a sliding mode controller in order to linearize the behaviour of an induction motor. The second problem described in the paper is decoupling between two physical outputs: the rotor speed and the rotor flux modulus. The sliding mode tools allow us to separate the control from these two outputs. To take account of parametric variations, a model-based approach is used to improve the robustness of the control law despite these perturbations. Experimental results obtained with a laboratory setup illustrate the good performance of this technique.

Opis:
Issues of network survivability are important, since users of computer networks should be provided with some guarantees of data delivery. A large amount of data may be lost in high-speed Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) due to a network failure and cause significant economic loses. This paper addresses problems of network survivability. The characteristics of virtual paths and their influence on network restoration are examined. A new problem of Backup Virtual Path Routing is presented for the local-destination rerouting strategy. The function of the flow lost due to a failure of a single link is chosen as the performance index. The problem of finding the optimal virtual path assignment is NP-complete. Therefore we develop an exact algorithm based on the branch and bound approach. Moreover, two heuristic algorithms are proposed. Numerical results are presented.

Opis:
This paper presents an analysis of some class of bilinear systems that can be applied to biomedical modelling. It combines models that have been studied separately so far, taking into account both the phenomenon of gene amplification and multidrug chemotherapy in their different aspects. The mathematical description is given by an infinite dimensional state equation with a system matrix whose form allows decomposing the model into two interacting subsystems. While the first one, of a finite dimension, can have any form, the other is infinite dimensional and tridiagonal. A methodology of the analysis of such models, based on system decomposition, is presented. An optimal control problem is defined in the l1 space. In order to derive necessary conditions for optimal control, the model description is transformed into an integro-differential form. Finally, biomedical implications of the obtained results are discussed.

An iterative inversion algorithm for a class of square matrices is derived and tested. The inverted matrix can be defined over both real and complex fields. This algorithm is based only on the operations of addition and multiplication. The numerics of the algorithm can cope with a short number representation and therefore can be very useful in the case of processors with limited possibilities, like different neuro-computers and accelerator cards. The quality of inversion can be traced and tested. The algorithm can be used in the case of singular matrices, and then it automatically produces a result that contains the inverse of this part of the processed matrix which can be inverted. An example of the inversion of a six-order square matrix is presented and discussed.

In iterative learning control (ILC) and in repetitive control (RC) one is interested in convergence to zero tracking error as the repetitions of the command or the periods in the command progress. A condition based on steady state frequency response modeling is often used, but it does not represent the true stability boundary for convergence. In this paper we show how this useful condition differs from the true stability boundary in ILC and RC, and show that in applications of RC the distinction between these conditions is of no practical significance. In ILC satisfying this frequency condition is important for good learning transients, even though the true stability boundary is very different.

Opis:
The aim of this investigation is to construct an adaptive observer and an adaptive compensator for a class of infinite-dimensional plants having a known exogenous input and a structured perturbation with an unknown constant parameter, such as the case of static output feedback with an unknown gain. The adaptive observer uses the nominal dynamics of the unperturbed plant and an adaptation law based on the Lyapunov redesign method. We obtain conditions on the system to ensure uniform boundedness of the estimator dynamics and the parameter estimates, and the convergence of the estimator error. For the case of a known periodic exogenous input we design an adaptive compensator which forces the system to converge to a unique periodic solution. We illustrate our approach with a delay example and a diffusion example for which we obtain convincing numerical results.

Opis:
The Lp stability of linear feedback systems with a single time-varying sector-bounded element is considered. A sufficient condition for Lp stability, with 1LpL Y, is obtained by utilizing the well-known small gain theorem. Based on the stability measure provided by this theorem, quantitative results that describe output-to-input relations are obtained. It is proved that if the linear time-invariant part of the system belongs to the class of proper positive real transfer functions with a single pole at the origin, the upper bound on the output-to-input ratio is constant. Thus, an explicit closed-form calculation of this bound for some simple particular case provides a powerful generalization for the more complex cases. The importance of the results is illustrated by an example taken from missile guidance theory.

Opis:
In the case of linear dynamics, repetitive processes are a distinct class of 2D linear systems with uses in areas ranging from long-wall coal cutting and metal rolling operations to iterative learning control schemes. The main feature which makes them distinct from other classes of 2D linear systems is that information propagation in one of the two independent directions only occurs over a finite duration. This, in turn, means that a distinct systems theory must be developed for them for onward translation into efficient routinely applicable controller design algorithms for applications domains. In this paper, we introduce the dynamics of these processes by outlining the development of models for various metal rolling operations. These models are then used to illustrate some recent results on the development of a comprehensive control theory for these processes.

Opis:
This paper presents some design approaches to hybrid control systems combining conventional control techniques with fuzzy logic and neural networks. Such a mixed implementation leads to a more effective control design with improved system performance and robustness. While conventional control allows different design objectives such as steady state and transient characteristics of the closed loop system to be specified, fuzzy logic and neural networks are integrated to overcome the problems with uncertainties in the plant parameters and structure encountered in the classical model-based design. Induction motors are characterised by complex, highly non-linear and time-varying dynamics and inaccessibility of some states and outputs for measurements, and hence can be considered as a challenging engineering problem. The advent of vector control techniques has partially solved induction motor control problems, because they are sensitive to drive parameter variations and performance may deteriorate if conventional controllers are used. Fuzzy logic and neural network-based controllers are considered as potential candidates for such an application. Three control approaches are developed and applied to adjust the speed of the drive system. The first control design combines the variable structure theory with the fuzzy logic concept. In the second approach neural networks are used in an internal model control structure. Finally, a fuzzy state feedback controller is developed based on the pole placement technique. A simulation study of these methods is presented. The effectiveness of these controllers is demonstrated for different operating conditions of the drive system.
