Zygmunt Mycielski
Opis:
The article profiles one of the most interesting music critics of the communist period. Zygmunt Mycielski's journalism is one of the most valuable phenomena of Polish postwar musical culture. What was important for him were fixed points, imponderables keeping human thinking in check and truly creative activity in the sphere of sound. He did not share Carl Dahlhaus’ idea of the death of aesthetics, which was fashionable in the early twentieth century He was convinced that the aesthetic value of a musical work shape musical and non-musical reality, and that the microenvironment which these values form and unify remains particularly important for a man enslaved by the totalitarian system.

Opis:
The text concentrates on the problem of the ideologization of artistic transmission and uses Wojciech Smarzowski film ‘Rose’ as an example. This problem is considered both on several levels: reception, above all the critical-film level, and also on the level of the work itself. The analysis reveals the impoverishment of the message by radical left-wing and also conservative ideologization is becoming apparent. Also a susceptibility of work to discourse of the political correctness is becoming apparent, in addition it is rather superficial susceptibility.

Andrzej Wróblewski (1927-1957) was one of the most important Polish modern painters of his time, closely connected both with key issues of the 20th-century European avant-garde in art, as well as socialist realism in post- war Poland. The article is a sui generis glossa to Wróblewskis retrospective exhibition “Recto/Verso” presented in Winter-Spring 2015 by the Museum of Contemporary Art in Warsaw.

Opis:
This essay discusses three Polish films from the last 10 years: Bailiff (Komornik, 2005), directed by Feliks Falk, Edi (2002), directed by Piotr Trzaskalski, and Silesia, directed by Anna Kazejak-Dawid, which is the first part in the omnibus film Ode to Joy (Oda do radości, 2005) of which the two remaining parts were directed by Jan Komasa and Maciej Migas. The main methodological tools are the concepts of neoliberalism and bare life. The article argues that the fall of communism led to the neoliberalisation of Polish society and the production of bare life. The aforementioned films attest to these changes and offer an assessment of them which conveys a specific ideology. By focusing on the construction of their narratives and characters, the article attempts to establish its main features and offer its explanation.

Opis:
The Methodological Problems of Studies on the History of Polish Postwar Documentary The author discusses the narratives and stereotypical (ideological) point of view as a matrix for constructing an overly simple image of the Polish documentary in the postwar period (1944–1955) as shadowed in the untruth of political discourse. In Marek Hendrykowski’s opinion this particular period in Polish documentary film was much more complicated and multi perspectived (in a “dialogical” sense) as a research object posing new questions and opening new perspectives for film historians.
