    W artykule wyjaśniono znaczenie pojęcia menedżer w węższym i szerszym ujęciu. Omówiono kluczowe cechy i kompetencje, których w chwili obecnej wymaga się od menedżera. Wskazano na konieczność odniesienia kompetencji menedżerskich do cech psychicznych. Na przykładzie badań własnych zaprezentowano cechy psychiczne, które wskazują menedżerowie branży budowlanej.
    This article presents the notion of a manager in a narrow and broad sense. It discusses the key features and competence which are now required of a manager. The need for managerial skills reference to psychological features is indicated. On example of the author’s study the psychological features are presented which construction industry managers recognized that they have.

    In the article the concept of motivating the management staff was mentioned. It was pointed that the appropriate choice of personal motivators is one of the most crucial elements in the motivating process. It was suggested to choose motivators by Artificial Neural Network. ANN can be widely used. It can find the sens and rules in difficult structures of data. The ways of using tools in the company were also presented.

    In the modern world competences become a determinant of an individual. They pervade every sphere of human life, especially business one where they are consciously used to build the competitive advantage. The term of competences is broad and complicated and although they constitute a crucial element of human professional development their character and substance are not defined precisely. Almost each work on competences presents the problem in a different light and different context. Speaking about a company success we should focus our attention on the management competences. The aim of this work is to present the results of research on defining a discrepancy between possessed and desirable competences of management.

    Motivating to perform remains a very inspiring field of scientific studies. In spite of extensive research in this field, some areas, of niche nature, that require exploration can be identified. Motivating the managers is one of such areas, less popular but of tremendous importance in the process of managing a contemporary organisation. This article is theoretical and empirical. It was written to present the original results of empirical research focused on assessment of the motivation impact of 47 financial and non-financial tools by several hundred Polish managers. The research tool used in the study process was the questionnaire prepared by the author of this paper. Key preferences of the group of employees are an important source of information required in the process of optimising the effectiveness of managing the human capital and an entire organisation.

    Opis:
    The paper discusses leadership and management in the context of influencing people. It is an attempt to show that the ability to influence others effectively is a crucial skill of a successful leader and the essence of leadership. The author first presents some major management and leadership theories, focusing on those consistent with the aforementioned point of view. Furthermore, empirical evidence documenting the employees' perception of the Polish managers' influencing skills, based on a survey designed and implemented by the author, is presented. It concludes, however, that none of leadership skills, nor any combination of them, can guarantee the success of a leader. An effective leader needs to vary his style and adapt. Nonetheless, there are some major traits distinguishing outstanding leaders, which can also be linked to strong performance. The ability to influence people to reach organizational goals is one of them.
