Opis:
The research presents a review and comparison of different engine constructions. Investigated engines included crankshaft engines, barrel engine, opposed-piston engines and theoretical models to present possible variations of piston motion curves. The work comprises also detailed description of a numerical piston engine model which was created to determine the impact of the cycle parameters including described different piston motion curves on the engine efficiency. Developed model was equipped with Wiebe function to reflect a heat release during combustion event and Woschini’s correlation to simulate heat transfer between the gas and engine components.Various scenarios of selected engine constructions and different working conditions have been simulated and compared. Based on the results it was possible to determine the impact of different piston motion curves on the engine cycle process and present potential efficiency benefits.

The article presents the results of tests carried out on a single-cylinder of spark-ignition engine. The charge exchange process in the combustion chamber is very important to determine the possibility of improving the overall efficiency of the engine. Describes of impact modifications engine on open indicator diagrams. Open indicator diagrams show that the higher compression ratio is assumed, the higher the pressure in the system is. First parts of the research describes analysis of charge exchange on not working engine. Results of research presents different open indicators diagrams. Then the pressure results were obtained on the working engine. The possibilities of improving the overall efficiency of the engine by reducing the pumping loss, associated with the replacement of the air fuel mixture, were presented. The article describes the modification of a spark-ignition engine that affects the pressure change in the combustion chamber. The use of innovative methods of regulating the compression pressure gives a lot of positive effects.

This paper discusses the methodologies to investigate the efficiency of on-board electricity generation in the city bus. The research object, i.e. the Mercedes Conecto was tested under steady conditions. A chassis dynamometer, i.e. the MAHA LPS 3000 LKW provided the same conditions during the entire research. The paper presents the samples of the measurements performed at a single operating point of a given crankshaft speed and torque. This operating point was specified in line with the guidelines for the WHSC test. In our study, an electrical load was changed with an extra receiver, or a light bulb, at a fixed amount of fuel. The electrical loads were 0.4 kW, 1.6 kW and 2.8 kW. The research results enabled us to specify the amount of fuel to generate 1 kWh of electrical energy.

The article examines the level of perfection of the modern internal combustion engine design, their impact on the environment and population. A new engine concept has been developed. As a result a decrease in fuel consumption by 80% has been discovered as well as the effects of the new engine in the field of ecology such as a decrease in the number of diseases caused by poor environmental conditions, a lower risk of global warming, lower health care costs, an increase in life expectancy, etc. Also, for countries with fossil fuel deposits, can be anticipated dropping treasury income, factory closures, high unemployment, the likelihood of protests and uprisings.

Current and further developing CO2 and emission regulations worldwide and the competition to full electric mobility deliver a challenge for internal combustion engines in general. A state of the art solution is the use of natural gas mainly contending methane to reduce CO2 significantly and to offer lowest emission levels. The EU-funded project GasOn developed engine concepts to fully exploit the advantages of CNG. This article describes the development of an innovative, monovalent engine dedicated to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and characterised by the lean burn concept and the innovative pre-chamber combustion.

This paper presents the experimental results of a Combined Heat and Power (CHP) prototype based on a SI V-twin internal combustion engine driving a synchronous generator. The paper presents the criteria that were used to select the combustion engine and the electrical generator for the prototype. The internal combustion engine has been adapted to be fuelled by natural gas or LPG, with the possibility of controlling the load in two ways, i.e. by changing the throttle position (quantitatively) and/or the value of the excess air ratio by changing the fuel dose at a constant throttle position (qualitatively). The applied method of control allows to improve the efficiency of the engine especially in the range of partial loads. The experimental tests were carried out at a constant speed of 1500 rpm. During the tests, the fuel consumption of the internal combustion engine, the composition of the exhaust gas at the outlet of the exhaust system, the electrical parameters of the synchronous generator and the temperature at selected locations of the CHP system instance were measured. According to the obtained results, there was a slight increase in the efficiency of electricity generation with the application of the developed method of control of the combustion engine. The maximum power generation efficiency for Natural Gas (NG) was higher compared to LPG by more than 2 percentage points. The exhaust gas emission level confirm that the prototype cogeneration system meets the Stage II emission standard (in accordance with Directive 2002/08/EC for small SI engines with a power below 19 kW. D2 ISO 8178).

Opis:
Jatropha oil was blended with kerosene in ratios; JOK0, JOK20, JOK30, JOK40 and JOK50 and benchmarked against conventional diesel fuel. The blended fuel samples was test-run on a TD110-TD115 TQ small CI engine test rig, and emission levels for the fuel samples were examined using an SQV automobile exhaust gas analyser. The JOK20 fuel sample offered a better performance in terms of higher BP, BTE, and EGT followed by; JOK30, JOK40 and JOK50 blends; and also exhibited lower SFC, BSEC and AFR, hence less fuel consuming than diesel fuel. A reduction in CO emission was recorded for JOK20, and a significant cut was also observed for JOK30, JOK40 blends with load increase.; while, JOK30, JOK40 and JOK50 samples exhibited higher CO2 and lower UHC emission levels than diesel. No traceable level of NOx emission was recorded for JOK20 fuel sample.

The article presents test results on low-power fans used in the means of transport. Fans evaluation was in the context of energy efficiency. Interest in scientific topics related to low-power fans has its source in the reports of the Chief Inspector of Environmental Protection on the state of the natural environment in Poland and European Union reports assessing our natural environment. The goal of the article is to compare experimental results with Minister of Economy Regulation of March 11th, 2014, which introduces changes in accordance to European Parliament and Council Directive 2009/125/WE, with regard to ecodesign requirements for fans driven by motors with an electric input power between 125 W and 500 kW.

The article presents experimental test results of a DI single-cylinder, air-cooled diesel engine FL 511 operating with the normal (class 2) diesel fuel (DF), rapeseed oil (RO) and its 10%, 20% and 30% (v/v) blends with aviation-turbine fuel JP-8 (NATO code F-34). The purpose of the research was to analyse the effects of using various rapeseed oil and jet fuel RO90, RO80 and RO70 blends on brake specific fuel consumption, brake thermal efficiency, emissions and smoke of the exhaust. The test results of engine operation with various rapeseed oil and jet fuel blends compared with the respective parameters obtained when operating with neat rapeseed oil and those a straight diesel develops at full (100%) engine load and maximum brake torque speed of 2000 rpm. The research results showed that jet fuel added to rapeseed oil allows to decrease the value of kinematic viscosity making such blends suitable for the diesel engines. Using of rapeseed oil and jet fuel blends proved themselves as an effective measure to maintain fuel-efficient performance of a Didiesel engine. The brake specific fuel consumption decreased by about 6.1% (313.4 g/kW·h) and brake thermal efficiency increase by nearly 1.0% (0.296) compared with the respective values a fully (100%) loaded engine fuelled with pure RO at the same test conditions. The maximum NOx emission was up to 13.7% higher, but the CO emissions and smoke opacity of the exhaust 50.0% and 3.4% lower, respectively, for the engine powered with biofuel blend RO70 compared with those values produced by the combustion of neat rapeseed oil at full (100%) engine load and speed of 2000 rpm.

Opis:
A system with independent, early inlet valve closure (EIVC) has been analysed. The open, theoretical cycle has been assumed as a model of processes proceeding in the engine with variable inlet valve actuation. The system has been analysed individually and comparatively with open Seiliger-Sabathe cycle which is theoretical cycle for the classic throttle governing of engine load. The influence of EIVC on fuel economy, cycle work, relative charge exchange work and cycle efficiency has been theoretically investigated. The use of the analysed system to governing of an engine load will enable to eliminate a throttling valve from inlet system and reduce the charge exchange work, especially within the range of partial load. The decrease of the charge exchange work leads to an increase of the internal and effective works, which results in an increase of the effective efficiency of the spark ignition engine.

Opis:
Nanofiber properties, and the possibilities of their application in industry, including the production of car air intake filtration materials for vehicle engines are discussed. The attention is paid to the low efficiency of standard filtration materials based on cellulose in the range of dust grains below 5 μm. The properties of filtration materials with nanofibers addition are described. The conditions, and methodology of material filter paper tests at the station with particle counter were developed. Studies on the filtration characteristics, such as: efficiency, accuracy, as well as pressure drop of filtration materials differing in structure were made: standard paper, cellulose, and these materials with the addition of nanofibers. These are commonly used filter materials for filter inserts production of car air intake systems. Test results show significantly higher values of the efficiency, and filtration accuracy of materials with nanofiber layer addition of dust grains below 5 μm in comparison with standard filter paper. It was found that there are 16 μm dust grains in the air flow behind the insert made out of cellulose, which may be the reason for the accelerated wear of the engine's "piston-piston ring-cylinder" association. Lower values of dust mass loading coefficient km for filtration materials with the addition of nanofiber layer, in relation to standard filter paper were observed.
