Opis:
Music therapy is a field that is undergoing intense development. At the same time, as the interest in music therapy increases, there are more and more distortions about what forms of contact with music can be described as music therapy. It is coming to the situation in which either the area of music therapy is significantly narrowing or, on the contrary, all forms of contact with music are attributed to it. The author attempts to explain what lies behind the term music therapy, refuting at the same time myths that commonly exist in the media. He uses this polemic as a background to show the humanistic nature of this form of therapy.

Martin Straus (1946-2019) was one of the music educators of the last decades who attracted attention beyond Luxembourg with his new creative and innovative ideas. His work “Music – Playing with Sound“ which was developed in cooperation with a teacher and a second teacher, is based on a “parameter concept“, in which the six musical parameters – tone color, form, rhythm, dynamics, melody and harmony – are connected to the six activities of singing, playing, moving, composing, listening, recording/understanding so that it results in 36 points of contact for didactic-methodical considerations. The visual symbol is the “Klangmännchen“ (« little sound man“), a cephalopod figure, which, much as a soap bubble, you can see, but which you cannot hear. From this elementary direction of thinking, the “Luxembourg Model“ works well for both non-specialist teachers in the elementary field and for advanced music lessons in general education schools. The first scientific studies have shown that it is also of practical use in special needs education programs. The concept “Music – Playing with Sound“ is suitable for multi-perspective lessons using examples of music from the past and the present as well as for pedagogical challenges in the areas of inclusion and integration.

The primary goal of this essay is to describe the connections between intercultural pedagogical theory and its practical applications in music education. The author stresses the significance of this particular field of education and its impact on young people. When anchored in a variety of cultures, musical phenomena provide a unique opportunity to initiate students into a world in which the beauty and aesthetic values of the other are experienced and reflected upon. At the same time, they encourage students to engage in a dialogue with the other through non-verbal channels of communication. Intercultural music education usually follows two conceptual models: one centered on activities, such as singing, dance, and playing musical instruments, and the other, focusing on the listening experience to world music. Praktyczne zastosowania teorii pedagogiki... 29 Intercultural music education is typically pursued using folk music as the most primeval form of human activity. Folk music is also used as an inspiration for musical stylization. It must be emphasized that composers often used this source of inspiration to create outstanding musical works. Sacred music provides a unique means to engage with the spiritual sphere inherent in other cultures. This particular form helps to discover aesthetic qualities in music and explore the depths of religious experience in other people, as well as the space of their religion-driven existential pursuits that are exemplified in music.

Opis:
In the period after World War II, a new three-tier organization of music education was intro-duced in Poland. In 1945, schools were divided into music schoolsoflowerdegree, middle degree schools and music colleges and academies as higher music education. There were also music appreciation schools The solutions adopted were largely based on the patterns that exi-sted in the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. The three-tier structure enabled – according to the designers of this model – to adapt teaching to new needs and specialize depending on the student’s level of talent. However, the introduction of new organizational solutions faced dif-ficulties, some of the music community questioned the scope, pace and nature of the changes. A separate position was presented by many recognized Polish musicians and teachers. Music schools introduced the new teaching structure in a slow and often reluctant manner. As a result of the pedagogical discussion in the late 1940s and early 1950s, the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage introduced quite significant changes. Although the three-tier structure was retained, music appreciation schools were closed. In the 1950s, intensive efforts were undertaken at the Ministry of Culture and Science to analyze the problems of the Polish model of music education and prepare new structural solutions. Outstanding representatives of Polish musical life took part in these. A number of systemic difficulties were noticed, including students overburdened with studies, high drop-out rates, and artificial separation of the stages of education. New concepts for the organization of education were presented, frequently with references to the old, pre-war solutions, which were appreciated as already tested and more effective. Some outstanding musicians and teachers presented their critical standpoints in the music press. Despite the unequivocal position of many representatives of the pedagogical and music community, the authorities of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage lacked the determination and sufficient courage to carry out a fundamental reform of the Polish model of music education. Legal acts were prepared and published in which the then current model of education was maintained. Primary music schools of the first degree were provided functions of music appreciation education, and second-degree schools were assigned professional functions. This article is the first attempt to show the circumstances of implementing a new model of music education in Poland. It shows the reaction of the pedagogical and musical community as well as the continuous structural problems. The article was prepared with the use of extensive archival sources, press articles and legal documents.

Music activities and games are a natural human activity leading to the knowing beauty and peace. Music can affect human beings intensively, as we have a sense of rhythm and melody. The aim of the contribution was to design and apply a battery of music activities and games in after-school club with the intention to improve relationships (social climate) among children. The battery was designed based on developed projective technique of unfinished sentences filled up with children. The design was aimed to develop the following in younger-school aged children in after-school club: a) Imagination and phantasy, b) Memory, thinking and attention, c) Support social solidarity and friendships. During their application in after-school clubs we noted that an educator can constantly shape and improve social school climate in an optimal way. Music activities and games bring to class: harmony, positive mood and energy, relax, group cooperation and participation, which was not shown individually, but in the rest of the class.

In the current issue of the journal „Ars inter Culturas”, scholarly articles have been gathered and arranged into several thematic groups. Most of the issue is devoted to music, its analysis and to musical education, both conceptual and historical studies, as well as research into its effects. The articles in the first section are arranged chronologically, covering musical space from ancient Egypt to contemporary times. The second section includes historical research on music education, from the perspective of both Eastern European and Polish experiences. The third section maintains a multicultural profile, showing the interpenetration of various musical concepts between countries and their national adaptations.Traditionally, space is set aside in „Ars inter Culturas” for fields that round out the theore-tical area of other aspects of multiculturalism. This time, these were texts offering theological analysis as well as in teaching religious education for young people. The last part of this issue are references to other arts – ballet, design, as well as historical and contemporary interpreta-tion of literature, and sport.

This attempt to reinterpret the works of Augustyn Bloch is based on the philosophical thou-ght of Gilles Deleuze. The transfer of the philosopher’s thought, focused mainly on the analy-sis of literary works, into the scope of questions of music takes into account the peculiarity of a musical work – its ontological essence. Following the signs and repetitions in the music of Au-gustyn Bloch, I therefore distinguish two categories of phenomena. The first are borrowed signs. These are in fact quotations of the creative work of another. They bring the essence that grows from an outside source, and refer to group memory. The second are quotations of one’s own cre-ative work, original reminiscences, which most often symbolize earlier works; they also become a personal code of the artist’s compositional strategy. The nature of these is twofold – externally emotive, when the message of meaning is recognized by a wide group of recipients, and internal-ly emotive, recognizable only by a narrow circle of experts.Repetitions of characters in each of these categories are present both in the surface layer (stru-ctural) and deep (expression) differences. Their catalog is most often dependent on the message of the work. The essence of repetition is therefore the internal tension depending on the difference.

This article discusses the importance of hosting the LvivMozArt Festival in Lviv (Ukraine). It is shown how within the short period of its existence (three years) the festival has tended to develop rapidly and received meaningful sponsorship. Attention is focused on its art director and founder, conductor Oksana Lyniv, who has set herself the goal of organizing a classic festival with non-standard formats, but with a high-quality performance of classical music. It is noted that a distinctive feature of the LvivMozArt festival is the combination of different formats: live art performance, academic symposium, chamber and symphony concerts, and opera. This article analyzes the literary bias of the academic symposium entitled “Literary Impressions in Music”, which was attended by prominent scholars from Ukraine, Austria, Germany and Poland. It is argued that the biggest event of the festival was its opening. The concert was dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the birth of the Austrian writer Joseph Roth and the memory of the Holocaust victims.

One of the biggest challenges in Poland (1918-1939) was the establishment of a new Polish school. The main goal of the newly created Polish school was to educate a generation as patriots and responsible citizens, and unite compatriots from three ex-partitions. The first school curriculum in the independent Poland focused on teaching social knowledge, Polish and European cultures, and, above all, providing pupils with moral and aesthetic experience. Music education played a key role in bringing various ideological objectives to fruition. Music compositions with national themes – both from concert and folk traditions – were worshipped and seen as the rebirth of the national culture. The goal of music instruction was to educate the young generation, bring it closer to the ideas embedded in the masterpieces of art, and deepen their love of music.

Opis:
Witold Rudziński (1913-2004) – composer, theorist, music historian, pedagogue, music critic. He is also known for having promoted the idea of listening to music and various methods of teaching it. He would often stress the significance of that area of his didactic work himself. Whilst creating his method, Rudziński focuses upon two aspects – the importance of developing the music imagination of the listener and a conscious choice of the widest possible repertoire. The author presents the entire piece in a concise manner, without breaking it up into separate elements. The act of getting to know music becomes an ongoing game between the analytical and the synthetical thinking processes. An active, versatile listener, who perceives music intensely is, according to Rudziński, a co-creator of the musical work. The biggest importance is attached to the right choice of repertoire of different periods and styles, ideally also varied in terms of orchestration. All this provides an extra challenge for perception and therefore becomes a great way of training the listener’s brain. Various methods of notation (such as music examples, diagrams and illustrations) enhance the process of perception by letting the listener see whatever might be impossible to hear in the direct contact with the work. The author’s concept of listening to music was a result of his deep belief that music plays a unique role and has a significant impact upon everybody’s overall cultural awareness. Rudziński promoted his ideas in various forms, including radio broadcasts, lessons and open lectures. He also wrote a number of successful publications, which provide a valuable output of his life-long passion for popularising music. These include: Music for Everyone (1st ed. Cracow 1948, 2nd ed. Cracow 1966), About Music in the Company of a Loud- Speaker (Cracow 1975) as well as Music of Our Century (Warsaw 1995)
