In order to improve the high-temperature oxidation stability, a study of 434L sintered stainless steel was focused on the effect of addition of metallic oxides to form stable oxide film on the inner particle surface. In this paper, oxidation behavior of 434L compacted parts in accordance with the addition of metallic oxides were discussed with high temperature oxidative reaction, and sintering behavior analysis under 950°C. Oxidation weight gains of 434 L have increased as a form of parabolic laws. The hightemperature oxidation resistance was improved by the mixed addition of amorphous SiO2 and silica up to 2wt.%. The oxidation rate was decreased and kept constant after 60 hours. It was caused by the restraint succeeding oxidation due to the stable oxide formation of Cr2SiO4 phases on the particle surface to prevent densification and inhibition the external diffusion of Cr. High-temperature stability was confirmed by the electrical resistivity maintains the constant value of 1.3×10-2 Ω ·cm when the silica added less than 2w/o to 1w/o A-SiO2 added 434L.

This study investigated the high temperature oxidation property of SiC coated layer fabricated by aerosol deposition process. SiC coated layer could be successfully manufactured by using pure SiC powders and aerosol deposition on the Zr based alloy in an optimal process condition. The thickness of manufactured SiC coated layer was measured about 5 μm, and coating layer represented high density structure. SiC coated layer consisted of α-SiC and β-SiC phases, the same as the initial powder. The initial powder was shown to have been crushed to the extent and was deposited in the form of extremely fine particles. To examine the high temperature oxidation properties, oxidized weight gain was obtained for one hour at 1000°C by using TGA. The SiC coated layer showed superior oxidation resistance property than that of Zr alloy (substrate). The high temperature oxidation mechanism of SiC coated layer on Zr alloy was suggested. And then, the application of aerosol deposited SiC coated layer was also discussed.

This study investigated the microstructure and high temperature oxidation properties of Fe-25Cr-20Ni-1.5Nb, HK30 alloy manufactured by metal injection molding (MIM) process. The powder used in MIM had a bi-modal size distribution of 0.11 and 9.19 μm and had a spherical shape. The initial powder consisted of γ-Fe and Cr23C6 phases. Microstructural observation of the manufactured (MIMed) HK30 alloy confirmed Cr23C6 along the grain boundary of the γ-Fe matrix, and NbC was distributed evenly on the grain boundary and in the grain. After a 24-hour high temperature oxidation test at air atmospheres of 1000, 1100 and 1200°C, the oxidation weight measured 0.72, 1.11 and 2.29 mg/cm2, respectively. Cross-sectional observation of the oxidation specimen identified a dense Cr2O3 oxide layer at 1000°C condition, and the thickness of the oxide layer increased as the oxidation temperature increased. At 1100°C and 1200°C oxidation temperatures, Fe-rich oxide was also formed on the dense Cr2O3 oxide layer. Based on the above findings, this study identified the high-temperature oxidation mechanism of HK30 alloy manufactured by MIM.

Initial investigations on oxidation behaviour and phase transformations of equimolar AlCoCrCuNi high entropy alloy with and without 1 at.% silicon addition during 24-hr exposure to air atmosphere at 1273 K was carried out in this work. After determining the oxidation kinetics of the samples by means of thermogravimetric analysis, the morphology, chemical and phase compositions of the oxidized alloys were determined by means of scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis. Additional cross-section studies were performed using transmission electron microscopy combined with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and selected area electron diffraction. From all these investigations, it can be concluded that minor silicon addition improves the oxidation kinetics and hinders the formation of an additional FCC structure near the surface of the material.

The objective of this work was to expand the knowledge on mechanical properties of the oxidized Crofer 22 APU Ferritic Stainless Steel. To examine adhesion of oxide scale formed on steel the scratch test was performed. Scratch test as an appropriate method for qualitative evaluation of the film adhesion to substrate has been used in many studies. Scratch properties were investigated before and after oxidation at 800°C for 500 hours in laboratory air.
Celem niniejszej pracy było poszerzenie wiedzy o mechanicznych właściwościach ferrytycznej stali Crofer 22 APU po procesie wysokotemperaturowego utleniania. Pomiary właściwości mechanicznych utworzonej warstwy tlenkowej wykonano metodą zarysowania – scratch testu. Test zarysowania jast najpopularniejszą metodą badania wytrzymałości połączenia powłoki z podłożem. Badania prowadzono na materiale w stanie wyjściowym oraz po utlenianiu przez 500 godzin w temperaturze 800°C – typowych warunkach pracy ogniwa paliwowego typu SOFC.

In order to improve the efficiency of power generation system and reduce CO2 emissions power plants work at high temperature and pressure. Under such conditions modified steel 9Cr, which fulfils the requirements concerning creep resistance, isused. However, Cr2O3 formed on the steel does not protect the construction material in the atmosphere which contains CO2 and SO2. The aim of the experiment was to study the behaviour of P91 steel in CO2 atmosphere with the addition of 1% and 5 vol.% of SO2 at different temperatures (700, 800 and 900°C). It was concluded that the corrosion rate of P91 steel is increasing with a rise in temperature. Scales formed in CO2 atmosphere at 900°C contain a mixture of iron oxides in the outer layer and chromium-iron spinel in the inner layer. The FeS and Ni were found in the inner zone of scales formed in SO2 atmosphere.

CM247LC alloy was manufactured by using selective laser melting (SLM) process, one of the laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) methods. The hot isostatic pressing (HIP) process was additionally conducted on the SLM-built CM247LC to control its microstructures and defects. The high temperature oxidation property was investigated, and it was compared with conventional DS247LC sample (reference) prepared via the directional solidification process. The L-PBF HIP sample showed blocky-type MC carbides generated along the grain boundary with average size of about 200 nm. A semi-spherical primary γ' phase of size 0.4-1.0 μm was also observed inside the grains. Moreover, the DS247LC sample displayed a coarse eutectic γ' phase and many script-type MC carbides. Furthermore, cuboidal-type γ' with an average size of about 0.5 μm was detected. High-temperature oxidation tests were conducted at 1000°C and 1100°C for 24 hours. The results at 1100°C oxidation temperature showed that the measured oxidation weight gains for HIP and DS247LC were 1.96 mg/cm2 and 2.26 mg/cm2, respectively, indicating the superior high-temperature oxidation resistance of the L-PBF HIP sample. Based on the above results, a high-temperature oxidation mechanism of the CM247LC alloys manufactured by the SLM process and the directional solidification process has been proposed.

In presented work authors analyzed the high-temperature oxidation process from the point of view of its influence on effects obtained during cast iron hot-dip zinc coating. Research concerned the influence of the high-temperature oxidation, as a preliminary stage previous to coating with zinc on the change of surface layer structure as well as subsurface layer of cast iron with flake, vermicular and nodular graphite. To obtain proper results of Zn coating the special chemical etching of cast iron after oxidation is necessary. The effects were compared to these obtained during cast iron coating without preliminary thermal processing. To comparative analysis both optical and scanning microscope, RTG measurement and profile measurement gauge results were applied. As a consequence of conducted high-temperature oxidation in subsurface layer of cast iron pores have been created, that in result of coating in liquid zinc were filled with new phase and in this way the new zone with different properties was obtained. It was additionally stated that the cast iron layer enriched in zinc is considerably thicker than layers got with application of other methods. Thickness of sub-surface layer where "after-graphite" pores are filled with zinc depends directly on the kind of graphite. When the flake and vermicular/compacted graphite is observed depth of penetration reaches 120 µm, whereas in nodular cast iron it reaches only 15 µm, although sometimes single voids filled with zinc are observed at 75 µm depth.
W prezentowanej pracy autorzy zdecydowali się spojrzeć na proces wysokotemperaturowego utleniania z punktu widzenia jego wpływu na efekty uzyskiwane podczas cynkowania ogniowego żeliwa. Badania dotyczyły wpływu wysokotemperaturowego utleniania, jako etapu poprzedzającego cynkowanie na zmiany zarówno naniesionej warstwy, jak i warstwy przypowierzchniowej żeliwa z grafitem płatkowym, wermikularnym oraz kulkowym. W celu otrzymania właściwych efektów cynkowania konieczna jest specjalna obróbka chemiczna żeliwa po utlenianiu. Otrzymane wyniki porównano do tych, jakie otrzymuje się bez wstępnej obróbki cieplnej. Do obserwacji i badań porównawczych stosowano mikroskop optyczny, skaningowy, badania RTG oraz pomiary za pomocą profilometru. W konsekwencji przeprowadzonego wysokotemperaturowego utleniania w warstwie przypowierzchniowej żeliwa powstały "po-grafitowe" pory, które w wyniku cynkowania zostały wypełnione nową fazą i w ten sposób została utworzona nowa strefa o odmiennych właściwościach. Dodatkowo stwierdzono, że warstwa żeliwa o podwyższonej zawartości cynku jest znacznie grubsza niż uzyskana za pomocą innych metod. Grubość przypowierzchniowej strefy, gdzie "po-grafitowe" pory zostały wypełnione cynkiem ściśle zależy od rodzaju grafitu. W przypadku grafitu płatkowego i wermikularnego głębokość penetracji osiągała 120 µm, podczas gdy dla grafitu kulkowego sięgała tylko 15 µm, chociaż niekiedy pojedyncze pustki wypełnione cynkiem były obserwowane nawet na głębokości 75 µm.

In this investigation, the formation of oxide scales on different Co-Ni based superalloys of γ–γ′ type was analyzed. Co-20Ni-7Al-7W (at.%) alloy as well as its W-free modifications based on Co-Ni-Al-Mo-Nb and Co-Ni-Al-Ta systems was analyzed under conditions of high temperature oxidation at 800 and 900°C. Therefore, the alloys were isothermally oxidized at selected temperatures for 100 h in laboratory furnace. Afterwards, the oxidation products were evaluated by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), optical microscopy (OM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The performed tests showed that W-free alloys exhibit worse oxidation resistance compared to those of Co-Ni-Al-W alloys. After oxidation at 900°C, all alloys were prone of oxide spallation. The scales characterized by oxide peeling were mostly composed of complex Co-based oxides, including CoWO4, CoTa2O6, Co2Mo3O8, CoNb2O6.

Fe-Cr-Al based Powder porous metals were manufactured using a new electro-spray process, and the microstructures and high-temperature oxidation properties were examined. The porous materials were obtained at different sintering temperatures (1350°C, 1400°C, 1450°C, and 1500°C and with different pore sizes (500 μm, 450 μm, and 200 μm). High-temperature oxidation experiments (TGA, Thermal Gravimetry Analysis) were conducted for 24 hours at 1000°C in a 79% N2+ 21% O2, 100 mL/min. atmosphere. The Fe-Cr-Al powder porous metals manufactured through the electro-spray process showed more-excellent oxidation resistance as sintering temperature and pore size increased. In addition, the fact that the densities and surface areas of the abovementioned powder porous metals had the largest effects on the metal’s oxidation properties could be identified.

This article presents the results of research on resistance to isothermal oxidation of Ti-46Al-7Nb-0,7Cr-0,1Si-0,2Ni alloy with AlCrN layer applied. The reference material was a Ti-46Al-7Nb-0,7Cr-0,1Si-0,2Ni alloy in initial state without any coating deposited. The protective coating was deposited by PVD process. Attempts at isothermal oxidation in air were performed at 900 and 950°C during 250h. Measurements of the samples’ mass were taken with the accuracy of 10-4 g. An analysis of the obtained results was made: chemical composition analysis, phase analysis of the deposited coating and chemical composition analysis of the alloy surface with the coating deposited after oxidation tests. In the case of the oxidation of alloy in initial state, pronouncedly higher mass gain and ”deferred” scale chipping was noticed. The deposited AlCrN coating significantly reduces spalling processes and makes for lesser mass gain of the oxidized alloy.
W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań odporności na utlenianie izotermiczne stopu Ti-46Al-7Nb-0.7Cr-0.1 Si-0.2Ni z naniesioną powloką AICrN. Materiałem referencyjnym był stop Ti-46Al-7Nb-0.7Cr-0.1 Si-0.2Ni w stanie wyjściowym, bez naniesionej powłoki. Powłoka ochronna naniesiona została w procesie PVD. Próby izotermicznego utleniania w powietrzu przeprowadzono w temperaturze 900 i 950°C w czasie 250h. Pomiary masy próbek przeprowadzane były z dokładnością 10-4 g. Dokonano analizy uzyskanych wyników: składu chemicznego i fazowego naniesionej powłoki oraz składu chemicznego powierzchni stopu z naniesioną powłoką po testach utleniania. Stwierdzono, w przypadku utleniania stopu w stanie wyjściowym, wyraźnie większe przyrosty masy i „zwłoczne” odpryskiwanie zgorzeliny. Naniesiona powłoka AICrN zdecydowanie ograniczyła procesy odpryskiwania zgorzeliny oraz przyczyniła się do mniejszego przyrostu masy utlenianego stopu.

Porous metal with uniform honeycomb structure was successfully produced by sintering using Fe-Cr-Al nano powder, which was prepared by the pulsed wire evaporation (PWE) in ethanol. Its process consisted of the several steps; 1) coating on the surface of polyurethane sponge with the liquid droplets generated from the ethanol-based slurry where the Fe-Cr-Al nano powders were uniformly dispersed, 2) heat treatment of debinding to remove the polyurethane sponge and 3) sintering of the porous green body formed by Fe-Cr-Al nano powders. The strut thickness of porous Fe-Cr-Al was increased by the increase of spraying times in ESP step. Also, The shrinkages and the oxidation resistance of the sintered porous body was increased with increase of sintering temperature. The optimal sintering temperature was shown to 1450°C in views to maximize the oxidation resistance and sinterability.
