This research work is devoted to the theoretical study of the pipe calibration on a mandrel. The aim of the study is to improve the precision of the calibrated pipes. As the paper shows, it is advisable to apply different methods of research depending on the purpose of the study of metal forming processes: mathematical, computer or physical simulation. Analytical review of existing mathematical models of the pipes calibration on a mandrel showed that the set of assumptions adopted in the mathematical modeling does not allow assessing the precision of the pipes during calibration. Therefore, finite-element method simulation package was used for this research. Research method and pipes precision index were developed on the basis of the computer simulation using Deform-3D package. The investigations have allowed us to get the dependence of the pipe precision on technological factors and to identify the root cause of reduced efficiency calibration – extrafocal deformation.

In this article, it aims to propose effective approaches for hydro-forming process of bi-metallic composite pipe by assuming plane strain and elastic-perfectly plastic material model. It derives expressions for predicting hydro-forming pressure and residual stress of the forming process of bi-metallic composite pipe. Test data from available experiments is employed to check the model and formulas. It shows the reliability of the proposed model and formulas impersonally.

The present paper makes an attempt to depict the effect of ovality in the inlet pigtail pipe bend of a reformer under combined internal pressure and in-plane bending. Finite element analysis (FEA) and experiments have been used. An incoloy Ni-Fe-Cr B407 alloy material was considered for study and assumed to be elastic-perfectly plastic in behavior. The design of pipe bend is based on ASME B31.3 standard and during manufacturing process, it is challenging to avoid thickening on the inner radius and thinning on the outer radius of pipe bend. This geometrical shape imperfection is known as ovality and its effect needs investigation which is considered for the study. The finite element analysis (ANSYS-workbench) results showed that ovality affects the load carrying capacity of the pipe bend and it was varying with bend factor (h). By data fitting of finite element results, an empirical formula for the limit load of inlet pigtail pipe bend with ovality has been proposed, which is validated by experiments.

In this paper an analysis of phenomena of laser welding of steel thin-walled element is presented. Coupled mathematical and numerical models of thermal phenomena, mechanical and phase transitions in solid and liquid state are proposed. To the modeling of phase transformation in the solid state the macroscopic model based on the analysis of the CTP diagrams are used. In the simulation of thermal phenomena the solution of heat transport equations with melting and solidification model is applied. Mechanical phenomena using the stress model for a elastic-plastic range and the isotropic strengthening of material are simulated. In order to solve analyzed problem the software using the finite element method (3D problem)has been developed. The influence of the individual elements of the model on the stress field and the plastic deformation field of welded steel element is determined. A comparative analysis of the results of numerical calculations for the case: the dependence of material properties on the temperature, the inclusion of phase transformation in the solid state, the dependence of the yield strength on the phase composition of the material are made.
W prezentowanej pracy przeprowadzono analizę zjawisk spawania laserowego stalowego elementu cienkościennego. Zaproponowano sprzężone modele matematyczne oraz numeryczne zjawisk cieplnych, mechanicznych oraz przemian fazowych w stanie stałym i ciekłym. Do modelowania przemian fazowych w stanie stałym wykorzystano makroskopowy model zbudowany z wykorzystaniem analizy wykresów CTP. Do symulacji zjawisk termicznych zastosowano rozwiązanie równania przewodzenia ciepła z modelem topienia i krzepnięcia w ujęciu pojemnościowym. Zjawiska mechaniczne symulowano z wykorzystaniem modelu naprężeń dla zakresu sprężysto-plastycznego i wzmocnieniem izotropowym materiału. Do rozwiązania zadań stworzono oprogramowanie wykorzystujące metodę elementów skończonych (zadania 3D). Określono wpływ poszczególnych elementów modelu na uzyskane pola naprężeń oraz pola deformacji plastycznych spawanego elementu stalowego. Przeprowadzono analizę porównawcza otrzymanych wyników obliczeń dla przypadków z elementami modelu takimi jak zmienność parametrów materiału od temperatury, uwzględnienie przemian fazowych w stanie stałym, zależność granicy plastyczności od składu fazowego materiału.

The article has been devoted to issues connected with socket fusion welding, which is next to welding one of the methods of thermoplastic polymers joining. In this paper, the research was presented, which the aim was analysis of quality of joints obtained as a result of resistance welding of polypropylene pipes with diameter ø20 in the temperature range of 200÷230°C. To that end a Testo thermal imaging camera was used, flexural strength of the combined components was tested as well as the received weld was observed under a stereoscopic microscope. Conducted studies showed that the best results of joint are obtained during welding at 220°C and 230°C, while lower temperatures did not fully perform their function during the process of joining the pipe elements.

Paper presents results of microstructure and tests of welded joints of new generation VM12-SHC martensitic steel using high power CO2 laser (LBW method) with bifocal welding head. VM12-SHC is dedicated to energetic installation material, designed to replace currently used. High content of chromium and others alloying elements improve its resistance and strength characteristic. Use of VM12-SHC steel for production of the superheaters, heating chambers and walls in steam boilers resulted in various weldability researches. In article are presented results of destructive and non-destructive tests. For destructive: static bending and Vickers hardness tests, and for non-destructive: VT, RT, UT, micro and macroscopic tests were performed.

The publication presents a novel concept of the process of plastic forming of variable longitudinal-section cylindrical products, being the subject of Patent Application P.427426 [1]. Additionally, these products are provided with a connection stub pipe. The plastic forming method proposed in the article combines many advantages and utilitarian benefits associated with the manufacturing technology itself, as well as with its further implementation. Using stock in the form of normalized bar commonly available in the metal product market as a finished product obviously reduces the process costs involved with stock preparation, i.e. casting, rolling, machining, etc. It also results in obtaining a much smaller surface area of stock contact with the tool and, as a consequence, a smaller surface of stock friction against the tool, which contributes to a reduction of force needed for the plastic forming of the product. The smaller contact surface area and the shorter time of stock contact with the cooler tool cause, above all, less intensive heat exchange and stock chilling. This has a significant effect on the plasticity of the cast material and, as a consequence, the plastic forming force. The proposed method enables also manufacturing cylinders with either a closed or open stub pipe with a regulatedlength and a varying section. In addition, unlike the method known from Polish Patent Specification PL 212062 [2], the proposedmethod does not require using a multi-tool press. The upper punch is furnished with a flange, whose job is to start the stock extrud-ing sleeve at the next process stage.

This study is to find the extent of variation in mechanical properties between plate and pipe welds fabricated out of the same FSW process parameters. Common thickness of 3 mm along with similar tool specifications is used to fabricate the weld. Process parameters of tool rotational speed 2000 rpm and weld speed 94 mm/min that was defined as optimal for pipe weld is used as common process parameters. Welds are analyzed for hardness and tensile properties. Yield strength and ultimate tensile strength varied about 8.1% and 11.2% respectively between plate and pipe welds. The hardness of the stir zones varied about 11.6% between plate and pipe welds.

The exposed selvedge layers in slabs cast by the continuous process should be free from surface defects, which in most cases appear in the form of cracks on the casting surface and run to its interior. In addition to the parameters of the casting process, the occurrence of such defects depends on the chemical composition of cast steel, on the segregation of surface active elements and formation of the precipitates of carbides, nitrides and other phases. Due to the frequent occurrence of defects in corners of the slabs, non-destructive testing was performed on the mechanically cleaned surfaces of slabs. The test material was low-carbon API(American Petroleum Institute API 5L standard) steel micro alloyed with Nb and Ti designed for the production of pipes to handle gas, oil and other liquid and gaseous fuels. Despite the use of different methods of inspection, i.e. ultrasonic, magnetic particle and penetrant, cracks were not traced in the examined material. Then, from the corners of the examined slabs, specimens were cut out for metallographic examinations. The main purpose of these examinations was to disclose the presence of possible cracks and micro cracks on the surfaces transversal and longitudinal to the direction of casting. At the same time, studies were conducted to establish the number and morphology of non-metallic inclusions in selvedge layers of the slab corners and axis. Additionally, hardness of the slabs was measured. The conducted studies revealed only some minor differences in the slab hardness along its axis (130 ÷ 135 HB) and in selvedge layers (120 ÷ 123 HB).

In this study, the microstructures and mechanical properties of X70 pipeline steels produced with varying Mo contents, accelerated cooling rate and intermediate slab blank thickness are systematically investigated. Results showed that the microstructures and mechanical properties of the X70 pipeline steels were strongly affected by Mo addition. The pearlite and proeutectoid ferrite formation is obviously inhibited in containing-Mo steel and the acicular ferrite (AF) is obtained in a wide range of cooling rates. With the increasing the cooling rates, the AF constituent amount increases. The grains can be refined by increasing the thickness of intermediate slab for enhancing the cumulative reduction rates, and meanwhile increase the number density of precipitates. It was proved by simulation and industrial trials that the low-alloy X70 pipeline steels can be produced increasing cooling rates and the thickness of intermediate slab without strength and toughness degradation which also reduce alloy cost.

Heat pipes have been recently in use for cooling purposes in various fields, including electronic circuit boards and vehicle parts that generate large amounts of heat. In order to minimize the loss of heat transferred, there is a need to maximize the contact area of the working fluid. This study produced a square tube multi-channel heat pipe to replace the existing circular pipe type to maximize the internal surface area thereof. This expands the surface, allowing the working fluid to come into contact with a wider area and enhancing thermal radiation performance. A mold for the production for such a product was designed, and finite element simulation was performed to determine whether production is possible.

This paper are presented the results of theoretical and experimental research on splitting without waste of pipe billets from aluminium alloy realized basing on cross-wedge rolling method. The analyzed process is connected with rolling of a V-shape groove on a split billet circumference, and later with rotary bending causing material separation. In theoretical analysis, based on simulations by means of finite element method, basic models of metal cracking (brittle and ductile) were applied. During calculations, the following process parameters were changed: forming angle α, bending angle θ and reduction ratio ∆r. The achieved results allowed for a precise analysis of the splitting process within the scope of: state of strain, kinematics of flow, force parameters, state of stresses and type of cracking of the split material. On the basis of experimental research, the influence of the analyzed parameters on the surface of splitting was estimated and scope of parameters guaranteeing the assumed quality of the product was given. The comparison of theoretical and experimental results showed good conformity.
W opracowaniu przedstawiono wyniki badań teoretyczno-doświadczalnych dzielenia bezodpadowego w realizowanego w oparciu o metodę walcowania poprzeczno-klinowego. Analizowany proces polega na odwalcowaniu na obwodzie dzielonego wsadu rowka w kształcie litery V, a następnie przeginaniu obrotowym doprowadzającym do rozdzielenia materiału. W obliczeniach wykorzystano metodę elementów skonczonych (MES). W analizie teoretycznej wykorzystano podstawowe modele pękania metali (kruchego i plastycznego). Podczas obliczeń zmieniano: kat kształtujacy α kat gięcia θ, gniot bezwzględny ∆r oraz długość oddzielanego odcinka wsadu l. Uzyskane wyniki pozwoliły na dokładne przeanalizowanie procesu dzielenia w zakresie: stanu odkształcenia, kinematyki płynięcia, parametrów siłowych, stanu naprężenia oraz rodzaju pękania dzielonego materiału. Na podstawie badan doświadczalnych oceniono wpływ badanych parametrów na stan powierzchni rozdzielenia i wskazano zakres parametrów zapewniajacych założoną jakość wyrobu. Dokonano porównania rezultatów teoretycznych i doświadczalnych uzyskując dobrą zgodność.

This study concerns numerical modelling and computer simulation of thermomechanical phenomena accompanying spiral welding of pipes made of stainless steel X5CrNi18-10 using a laser beam. Based on Abaqus FEA software, 3D numerical analysis was performed. Power distribution of spirally moving heat source was implemented into additional DFLUX subroutine, written in Fortran programming language. Thermomechanical properties of steel changing with temperature were taken into account in the analysis. The efficiency of material melting by different welding sources as well as the influence of heat load on the shape of melted zone, deformation of welded pipe and residual stress were examined.
Praca dotyczy modelowania numerycznego i symulacji komputerowej zjawisk termomechanicznych towarzyszących procesowi spawania spiralnego rur ze stali nierdzewnej X5CrNi 18-10 przy wykorzystaniu wiązki laserowej. Bazując na oprogramowaniu Abaqus FEA wykonano analizę numeryczną 3D. Rozkład mocy źródła ciepła poruszającego się spiralnie implementowano w dodatkowej procedurze DFLUX napisanej w języku programowania Fortran. W analizie uwzględniono zmienne własności termomechaniczne stali. Badano efektywność przetapiania materiału różnymi typami źródeł spawających oraz wpływ obciążenia cieplnego na kształt strefy przetopienia, deformacje spawanych rur i naprężenia spawalnicze.

The paper presents the results of examination of coil pipe butt joint made of 7crmovtib10-10 steel (t24). tested joint was in service for approximately 12 000 hours at the temperature of 540 degree Celsjus and pressure of 5.48mpa. tests have revealed that the structure of all regions of the homogenous welded joint are correct and without any welding imperfections. operation of the weld contributed mainly to advantaged precipitation of carbides especially on grain boundaries - frequently in the contact area of three grains' boundaries as well as in the form of continuous network of precipitates. the measurement showed high hardness of the weld, what indicates high stability of the microstructure. It makes possible to find that post-weld heat treatment is indispensable.
W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań doczołowego złącza spawanego rury wężownicy ze stali 7crmovtib10-10 (t24). badane złącze eksploatowane było przez około 12 000 godzin w temperaturze 540 stopni Celsjusza przy ciśnieniu 5.48 mpa. Przeprowadzone badania wykazały prawidłową budowę we wszystkich strefach jednorodnego złącza spawanego bez niezgodności spawalniczych. Eksploatacja badanego złącza przyczyniła się przede wszystkim do uprzywilejowanego wydzielania węglików po granicach ziaren, często na styku trzech granic ziaren oraz w postaci tzw. ciągłej siatki wydzieleń. Pomiar twardości wykazał wysoką twardość złącza, co wskazuje na dużą stabilność mikrostruktury. pozwala to na stwierdzenie o konieczności stosowania zabiegów obróbki cieplnej po spawaniu.
