Opis:
In paper researching results of tribological proprieties Fe3Al intermetallic alloys after annealing are presented. Studies were conducted in the following environments: a water; an air and oil. For investigation purposes the tribotester pin-on-disk type with the contrsample made of steel 40H quenched and tempered was used. Tests were carried out with the following process parameters: pressure p = 2MPa and linear velocity (circuital) V = 0.46m/s. It was noted, that intermetallic samples with the small distinction in chemical compositions, annealed at different temperatures showed a large difference in the quantity of material loss in the all tested environments. Appropriately selected parameters of the intermetallic alloys annealing, provide their greater resistance to abrasion in the air and oil environments than in the case of steel.

Opis:
Influence of chemical composition and material structure on the abrasive wear of Ni3Al intermetallic alloy in loose abrasive was investigated in details. Boron, zirconium and chromium were used as the alloying elements. The alloys are made up of &gamma' or &gamma'+&gamma phases (single-phase, ordered matrix + disordered area). Grain size of the alloys was varied: 5, 20 and 45 &mi m. Abrasive were experiments were performed with T-07 tester (Norma company) in accordance to the GOST 23.2008-79 standard. Mechanism of surface layer damaging exposed to the loose abrasive was described on the basis of the obtained structural and topographical experiments. The results revealed that relative abrasive wear in loose abrasive is approximately same for all the investigated alloys with varied grain size.

Opis:
Evaluation of the cavitation erosion resistance of structural materials is based on selected measurement method. Destruction of the sample surface caused by cavitation phenomenon can be evaluated in laboratory conditions by measuring few quantitative parameters e.g. loss of mass of sample, quantity or weight of detached particles, the area of the worn material, the average and the maximum depth of cavitation erosion, the change of surface roughness or the number of cavities on the surface. In this paper optical and profilometry methods of geometric surface structure measurement of AW-2017A alloy after cavitation wear, were presented and compared. The optical method was carried out on Nikon Eclipse MA200 light microscope and profilometry method was performed using TOPO 01P v3D profilometer.

Opis:
The Al/Zn-enriched surface layers were fabricated on Mg substrate by heating the specimens in contact with an Al + 40 wt.% Zn powder mixture at 445oC for 60 min. The microstructure and corrosion and wear resistance of the layers were investigated and discussed. The experimental results show that the layers were composed of Mg17(Al,Zn)12 and Mg5Al2Zn2 intermetallic phases and a solid solution of Al and Zn in Mg. They were integrated with the substrate trough a zone of a solid solution of Al and Zn in Mg. The potentiodynamic polarization measurements indicated that the specimens with Al/Zn-enriched layer had better corrosion resistance than the bare Mg. The microhardness of the layers containing Mg-Al-Zn intermetallic phases was much higher than that of the Mg substrate. The sliding wear tests showed that the wear resistance of the specimens with a surface layer containing intermetallic phases was also superior to that of untreated Mg.

Opis:
This paper discusses changes in the microstructure and abrasive wear resistance of G17CrMo5-5 cast steel modified with rare earth metals (REM). The changes were assessed using scanning microscopy. The wear response was determined in the Miller test to ASTM G75. Abrasion tests were supplemented with the surface profile measurements of non-modified and modified cast steel using a Talysurf CCI optical profilometer. It was demonstrated that the modification substantially affected the microstructure of the alloy, leading to grain size reduction and changed morphology of non-metallic inclusions. The observed changes in the microstructure resulted in a three times higher impact strength (from 33 to 99 kJ/cm2) and more than two times higher resistance to cracking (from 116 to 250 MPa). The following surface parameters were computed: Sa: Arithmetic mean deviation of the surface, Sq: Root-mean-square deviation of the surface, Sp: Maximum height of the peak, Sv: Maximum depth of the valley, Sz: Ten Point Average, Ssk: Asymmetry of the surface, Sku: Kurtosis of the surface. The findings also indicated that the addition of rare earth metals had a positive effect on the abrasion behaviour of G17CrMo5-5 cast steel.
