We consider the problem of the vanishing of non-negative continuous solutions ψ of the functional inequalities (1) ψ(f(x)) ≤ β(x,ψ(x)) and (2) α(x,ψ(x)) ≤ ψ(f(x)) ≤ β(x,ψ(x)),
where x varies in a fixed real interval I. As a consequence we obtain some results on the uniqueness of continuous solutions φ :I → Y of the equation (3) φ(f(x)) = g(x,φ(x)), where Y denotes an arbitrary metric space.

Opis:
The conformal mapping ω(z) of a domain D onto the unit disc must satisfy the condition |ω(t)| = 1 on ∂D, the boundary of D. The last condition can be considered as a Dirichlet problem for the domain D. In the present paper this problem is reduced to a system of functional equations when ∂D is a circular polygon with zero angles. The mapping is given in terms of a Poincaré series.

The Riemann problem has been solved in [9] for an arbitrary closed Riemann surface in terms of the principal functionals. This paper is devoted to solution of the problem only for the double of a multiply connected region and can be treated as complementary to [9,1]. We obtain a complete solution of the Riemann problem in that particular case. The solution is given in analytic form by a Poincaré series.

Let K denote the set of all reals or complex numbers. Let X be a topological linear separable F-space over K. The following generalization of the result of C. G. Popa [16] is proved.
Theorem. Let n be a positive integer. If a Christensen measurable function f: X → K satisfies the functional equation
$f(x + f(x)^ny) = f(x)f(y)$,
then it is continuous or the set {x ∈ X : f(x) ≠ 0} is a Christensen zero set.

We consider the Abel equation φ[f(x)] = φ(x) + a on the plane ℝ², where f is a free mapping (i.e. f is an orientation preserving homeomorphism of the plane onto itself with no fixed points). We find all its homeomorphic and diffeomorphic solutions φ having positive Jacobian. Moreover, we give some conditions which are equivalent to f being conjugate to a translation.

We consider the following Darboux problem: (1) $D_{xy}z(x,y) = f(x,y,z_{(x,y)},(D_xz)_{(x,y)},(D_yz)_{(x,y)})$, (2) z(x,y) = ϕ(x,y) on [-a₀,a] × [-b₀,b] \ (0,a] × (0,b], where $a₀,b₀ ∈ ℝ₊, a,b > 0. The operator $[0,a] × [0,b] ∋ (x,y) ↦ ω_{(x,y)} ∈ C([-a₀,0] × [-b₀,0],ℝ)$ defined by $ω_{(x,y)}(t,s) = ω(t+x,s+y)$ represents the functional dependence on the unknown function and its derivatives. We construct a wide class of difference methods for problem (1),(2). We prove the existence of solutions of implicit functional systems by means of a comparative method. We get two convergence theorems for implicit and explicit schemes, in the latter case with a nonlinear estimate with respect to the third variable. We give numerical examples to illustrate these results.

We deal with the linear functional equation (E) $g(x) = ∑^r_{i=1} p_i g(c_i x)$, where g:(0,∞) → (0,∞) is unknown, $(p₁,...,p_r)$ is a probability distribution, and $c_i$'s are positive numbers. The equation (or some equivalent forms) was considered earlier under different assumptions (cf. [1], [2], [4], [5] and [6]). Using Bernoulli's Law of Large Numbers we prove that g has to be constant provided it has a limit at one end of the domain and is bounded at the other end.
