Opis:
We have determined the efficiency of photoionization of Ge¯-DX state in GaAs as a function of photon energy. The optical ionization energy derived from the fitting is about 1.0 eV. It proves a large difference between optical and thermal ionization energies and confirms that for Ge-impurity, the broken-bond model and large lattice relaxation are valid and not the breathing mode with small lattice relaxation, resulting from the calculations presented for Ge-impurity in T.M. Schmidt, A. Fazzio, M.J. Caldas, Mater. Sci. Forum 196/201, 273 (1995).

We present the possibility of using magnetic field to enhance responsivity and to tune spectral range of far-infrared InSb detector (based on photoconductivity effect) beyond its standard range limited to about 30 cm$\text{}^{-1}$. We show that due to cyclotron resonance assisted transitions we can use it as a tunable detector working up to energies about 180 cm$\text{}^{-1}$ (22 meV). We have used such a detector as a spectrometer for measurements of the Landau emission from GaAs emitter.

In our instrument the interference filter is fixed between condenser lenses. The transmitted wavelength changes continuously along the length of the filter. The multislit cyclic Hadamard mask moves step by step behind the filter to multiplex signal. Some details concerning the data recording, handling and decoding are specific for this technique of investigation of thermoluminescence spectrum.

Luminescence signals measured from minerals within bricks or ceramic samples can provide information about the absorbed radiation dose. This feature has for several years been used in dating archaeological and geological samples and recently luminescence techniques have been intensively used for retrospective assessment of accident doses received by the population after a nuclear accident. The development of new luminescence techniques after the Chernobyl accident has considerably improved the sensitivity and precision in the evaluation of accident doses. This paper reviews the development work, especially on optically stimulated luminescence methods for retrospective assessment of accident doses carried out at Risø National Laboratory in collaboration with the University of Helsinki as part of a joint European Union research project. We demonstrate that doses lower than 100 mGy can be measured from extracted brick quartz with a precision in the order of 1% using newly developed optically stimulated luminescence dose evaluation protocols.

In this paper we discuss the line shapes of a two-level atom in the presence of broad-band squeezed vacuum and collisional broadening. We describe the collisions and the squeezed vacuum using a stochastic model of Rabi amplitude fluctuations. From such a stochastic description the fast and the slow damping rates of the Bloch polarizations are obtained. The strong field resonance fluorescence spectrum in the presence of stochastic broad-band squeezed vacuum and collisions is derived.

We investigate the electronic transport properties of a bilayer graphene flake contacted by two monolayer nanoribbons. This finite-size bilayer flake can be built by overlapping two semi-infinite ribbons. We study and analyze the electronic behavior of this structure by means of a tight-binding method and a continuum Dirac model. We have found that the conductance oscillates markedly between zero and the maximum value of the conductance, allowing for the design of electromechanical switches.

Opis:
Recent investigations of laser-atom interaction at high intensities have led to the discovery of several unexpected phenomena, and their studies have deepened our understanding of non-perturbative dynamics of quantum systems subjected to unusually strong radiation fields. For the analysis and interpretation of these phenomena. We have developed an ab initio non-perturbative method, the Floquet close-coupling method, and applied it to analyse the highly non-perturbative problem of adiabatic stability of hydrogen atom. Ab initio rates of ionization as a function of the laser intensity for the excited circular states as well as related non-circular states are obtained. Our quantitatively accurate results clearly show that the predictions of the previous approximate theories such as the well-known "high-frequency" theory are qualitatively similar but differ quantitatively. The analysis of the dependence of adiabatic stability on the principal quantum number, the angular momentum, as well as on the magnetic quantum number for the Rydberg states are complemented by investigations of the behavior of the ground state for frequencies below the ionization threshold. In the latter situation we found the existence of stability windows within which the ionization probability decreases with increasing intensity but outside of which the atom becomes more unstable. It is shown here that the mechanism for the occurrence of stability windows is the self-tuned anti-resonance at specific intensities.

Energy levels, wavelengths, transition rates and line strengths are reported for the $2s^2$ $2p^3-2s2p^{4}$ transition array in Kr(XXX), Rb(XXXI) and Sr(XXXII). Wave functions were determined using the multiconfiguration Dirac-Fock method with account for valence and core-valence correlation effects. The present results are presented and compared with experimental data and with values from other calculations. The calculated values including core-valence correlation are in good agreement with other available theoretical and experimental values, and therefore can be used for the further astrophysical investigations.

The Schrödinger equation under the Manning-Rosen potential is solved in arbitrary dimension via the quantum mechanical idea of supersymmetry. The Pekeris approximation is used to overcome the inconsistency of the potential with the centrifugal term. Comments on the energy eigenvalue behavior versus dimension are included. The inter-dimensional degeneracy for various orbital quantum number l and dimensions D are studied. The expectation values of some physical parameters are reported via the Feynman-Hellmann theorem.

Opis:
The properties of carbon nanotubes can be dramatically altered by the presence of defects. In this work we address the properties of two different kinds of defective nanotubes: junctions of achiral tubes with topological defects and partially unzipped carbon nanotubes. In particular, we begin by focussing on the interface states in carbon nanotube junctions between achiral tubes. We show that their number and energies can be derived by applying the Born-von Karman boundary condition to an interface between armchair- and zigzag-terminated semi-infinite graphene layers. We show that these interface states, which were thought to be due to the presence of topological defects, are in fact related to the graphene zigzag edge states. Secondly, we study partially unzipped carbon nanotubes, which can be considered as the junction of a carbon nanotube and a graphene nanoribbon, which has edge features giving rise to novel properties. Carbon nanoribbons act as transparent contacts for nanotubes and viceversa, yielding a high conductance. At certain energies, nanoribbons behave as valley filters for carbon nanotubes; this holds considering electron-electron interaction effects. Furthermore, the application of a magnetic field turns the system conducting, with a 100% magnetoresistance. These novel structures may open a way for new carbon-based devices.
