Opis:
Transport properties of 10μm to 30μm wide grain-boundary junctions ion-etched in thin colossal magnetoresistance La$\text{}_{0. 7}$Sr$\text{}_{0.3}$MnO$\text{}_{3}$ films deposited on a SrTiO$\text{}_{3}$ bi-crystal were investigated. We have measured the current-voltage characteristics in the temperature range from 4.2 K to 300 K without applied magnetic field, as well as the magnetoresistance at magnetic fields up to±10 kOe directed parallel to the film surface, both perpendicular and parallel to the direction of current flow through the junctions. The investigated junctions have nonlinear current-voltage characteristics in this temperature range and consist of several magnetic domains. The maximum magnetoresistance (R(H)-R $\text{}_{max}$)/R$\text{}_{max}$, measured at 1 kOe was -17.6% at 4.1 K.

Opis:
The high harmonics produced by focusing an intense femtosecond laser in a gas are theoretically shown to be locked in phase. The physics of this locking is discussed and a new method based on quantum interference in two-photon, two-color ionization allowing to retrieve the relative phase of harmonic pairs is described. The main result is that the 5 harmonics of orders 11-19 produced in argon generate a train of subfemtosecond pulses with a period of 1.35 fs and a duration of 250 attoseconds.

Opis:
It is demonstrated that the photoluminescence spectra of single self-assembled quantum dots are very sensitive to the experimental conditions, such as excitation energy and crystal temperature. A qualitative explanation is given in terms of the effective diffusion of the photogenerated carriers, determined by the experimental conditions, which influence the capture probability and hence also the charge state of the quantum dots. This is proposed as a new tool to populate quantum dots with extra electrons in order to study phenomena involving charged excitons.

Grain boundaries play an important role in low-field magnetoresistance of La$\text{}_{0.7}$Ca$\text{}_{0.3}$MnO$\text{}_{3}$ and La$\text{}_{0.7}$Sr$\text{}_{0.3}$MnO$\text{}_{3}$ thin films deposited by magnetron sputtering and pulsed laser deposition on YSZ(100) and silicon substrates buffered by YSZ. Well-pronounced low-field magnetoresistance hysteresis was observed in magnetic fields applied in in-plane and out-of-plane directions. High values of local magnetoresistance sensitivity d(MR)/dH in the vicinity of the coercive field were obtained reaching up to 0.2%/Oe for La$\text{}_{0.7}$Ca$\text{}_{0.3}$MnO$\text{}_{3}$ samples at 5 K.zapis

Opis:
An extra channel of electron tunnelling through a double-barrier resonant-tunnelling GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructure caused by impurity assisted tunnelling was identified. We argue that it is due to DX centres associated with dopant donor atoms which diffused into the AlGaAs barrier layer.

We report the first studies of luminescence spectra from asymmetric double quantum wells of GaAs with widths around 100 Å differing by only one (2.8 Å) or two monolayers. Studies of the position and intensity of the direct and indirect exciton lines suggest the existence of acoustic phonon-assisted tunnelling between exciton states separated by a few meV. At temperatures 10-20 K the electron tunnelling process is fast enough to maintain thermal equilibrium between these direct and indirect excitons which are connected with holes in the same quantum well.

Opis:
The determination of fracture toughness of aluminium alloy aviation parts, exposed to cyclic mechanical loading, is an important engineering issue. The service life and crack resistance of such unprotected metallic parts is limited under corrosive operating conditions. The resistance against fracture cracking and corrosion resistance can be increased by the surface coatings. The scientific research of fracture toughness of coated metallic parts is being carried out in a comprehensive way. In this research, fracture toughness behaviour of high velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) spray coated and conventional hard chrome plated aluminium-zinc alloy parts were compared and the results are discussed. The fracture surfaces are investigated and fracture toughness values are calculated. Electron microscopy analysis revealed significant differences in crack growth morphology and toughness values. As a result, the fracture toughness value is higher in hard chrome plated parts.

Mica glass-ceramic was prepared by sintering method from in the $SiO_2-Al_2O_3-MgO-K_2O-B_2O_3-F_2$ system. The sintering behavior and machinability of a glass-ceramic composition were examined. The starting materials were mixed and milled in an alumina ball mill for 2 h. Then the powders were sieved to obtain grain sizes smaller than 75 μm. For the shaping process, disc samples were prepared by pressing at 100 MPa. The pressed discs were sintered at temperatures in the range from 900 to 1200C for 2 h in an electric furnace using a heating rate of 5°C/min. X-ray diffraction analysis, scanning electron microscopy, and machinability tests for characterization were performed on sintered samples. The results showed that all samples exhibited similar phases formation and good machinability.

In this study, the effects of perlite addition on mechanical properties and wear resistance of alumina ceramics were investigated. Alumina powders including perlite 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and perlite free were prepared. These powders were shaped as rectangular by using uniaxial pressing system under the load of 100 MPa. The samples were sintered at 1400°C-1550C for 2 h and were subjected to some mechanical tests such as hardness and fracture toughness. X-ray diffraction analysis was employed to determine the crystalline phases. Bulk densities of the samples were measured. In addition, erosive wear test was performed to investigate the erosive wear resistance of the samples. The wear test results were presented depending on different sliding speed and sintering temperature. These results showed that perlite addition has a positive effect on erosive wear resistance of the alumina ceramics, generally.

Opis:
A new modified semi-empirical formula including non-elastic scattering and Coulomb effects for the (α,n) reaction cross-section was obtained. The available experimental data were used to get the (α,n) reaction cross-section systematics. The dependence between the cross-section and asymmetry term was discussed for (α,n) reaction at 18.5±3 MeV energies classifying the target nuclei into odd Z-even N and even Z-even N. The coefficients of determination (R²) for all classifications were detected to exhibit the amount of relation between asymmetry term and cross-sections obtained from the modified semi-empirical formula with new coefficients.

Poly(2-acrylamido-2-methyl-1-propanesulfonic acid-co-1-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone), P(AMPS-co-VP), hydrogel was prepared by free radical cross-linking polymerization method. Prepared hydrogel was used in the competitive removal of Cd(II), Pb(II) and Cu(II) ions from aqueous solution. The characterization of P(AMPS-co-VP) before and after sorption was carried out by the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis and scanning electron microscopy. Atomic absorption spectrometer was used to found the concentration of metal ions in the aqueous solution. The selectivity of P(AMPS-co-VP) was as follows: Cd(II)>Pb(II)>Cu(II). Kinetic study showed that competitive removal of heavy metal ions on poly(AMPS-co-VP) was in accordance with a pseudo-second-order model.

Polymer gel electrolytes were prepared using poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) as polymer matrix. 1-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) and γ -butyrolactone (GBL) were preferred as the organic solvents. The alkali metal iodide salt (KI) and iodine (I₂) were used as the redox couple. Liquid electrolytes with different concentrations of KI were prepared by dissolving iodide salt/iodine in the binary NMP:GBL (volume ratio 7:3) solvent mixture. PVA was added into the liquid electrolytes and then the resulting mixture was stirred at 110°C for 1 h. Gel form was obtained at room temperature. The highest ionic conductivity at room temperature is 8.41 mS/cm. The temperature dependence of ionic conductivity with respect to the all concentration of KI shows the Arrhenius behaviour. Characterizations of polymer gel electrolytes were performed using the Fourier transform infrared, thermal gravimetric analysis, and differential scanning calorimetry techniques.

Opis:
The X-ray bremsstrahlung isochromat of Fe was measured for the photon energy 5415 eV in an extended energy range up to 300 eV above the threshold and compared to the Fe K-edge X-ray absorption spectrum. The Fourier analysis was performed for both spectra. It was stated that the extended structure of the Fe bremsstrahlung isochromat is clearly visible and is characteristic of the Fe bcc structure. Using the beat-node method, the distance between first and second shells in the bcc Fe was obtained quite close to the crystallographic value.

Opis:
This paper presents an experimental study on resistance spot welding of SPA-C steel sheets used in side wall and roof in rail vehicles. SPA-C steel sheets having 2.3 mm thicknesses were joined by using resistance spot welding as lap joint. A timer and current controlled resistance spot welding machine having 120 kVA capacity and a pneumatic application mechanism with a single lever was used to prepare the specimens. Welding periods were chosen as 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 periods and also welding currents were increased from 6 kA up to 11.5 kA by rise of 0.5 kA. The electrode force was kept constant at 6 kN. The nugget sizes of prepared welding specimens were calculated by means of an optical microscope and the obtained results were supported by diagrams and, finally, appropriate welding parameters were advised to the users.

The spectral and kinetic parameters of electron-pulse-initiated transient absorption of oxygen-doped $CaF_{2}$ crystals were studied using pulsed spectrometry with a nanosecond time resolution. It is shown that the formation of a $M_{A}^{+}$ color centers in $CaF_{2}$-0.01M%CaO crystals occurs by thermally activated diffusion of the vacancies. Activation energy of $M_{A}^{+}$ color centers formation process of 0.4 eV is established.
