Opis:
We study the influence of electron correlations on nonequilibrium transport through the quantum dots coupled between one metallic and one superconducting electrode. Such type of nanodevices are characterized by the induced on-dot pairing spread from the superconducting lead (proximity effect) and effectively responsible for mixing the particle with hole excitations. On the other hand, strong Coulomb repulsion between the opposite spin electrons tends to suppress a double occupancy of the quantum dots competing with the on-dot superconducting order. The Coulomb interactions can also cause a screening of the quantum dot spin by itinerant electrons of the metallic lead giving rise to formation of the Kondo resonance. We analyze interplay of such phenomena for the setup of double quantum dots where the quantum interference (such as Fano) effects influence the subgap electron transport through the Andreev scattering.

Opis:
We describe the quantum interference effects in the nanodevice consisting of the double quantum dot coupled to the metallic and superconducting electrodes. In such heterostructures the superconducting properties are spread to the quantum dot due to the proximity effect. We investigate the density of states and anomalous Andreev conductance of the interfacial quantum dot exploring the conditions necessary for appearance of the Fano-type lineshapes. We also consider the electron correlations and discuss an interplay between the Coulomb blockade and the Fano-type interference.

Opis:
We analyze the effective spectrum of a vibrating molecule coupled between one conducting and another superconducting electrode. The proximity effect induces electron pairing which is manifested by the subgap quasiparticle peaks (the Andreev states) whose broadening depends on a hybridization with the conducting electrode. On the other hand, the electron-phonon interaction leads to a multilevel structure with the polaronic states separated by the phonon energy. We inspect a combined effect of both these (polaronic and induced pairing) phenomena.

We study fluctuations of the superconducting order parameter of s-wave symmetry caused by nonmagnetic disorder present both in the boson and fermion subsystems using the Bogoliubov-de Gennes equations. In particular, we are interested if some features of the d-wave model persist for s-wave symmetry as well. These are: positive correlations between positions of impurities and the magnitude of energy gap, the homogeneity of the local density of states at low energies, nanoscale inhomogeneity of the coherence peak positions and their non-uniform height. We have found that spatial variations of s-wave order parameter are positively correlated with the positions of impurities. Such behavior has been observed in scanning tunneling measurements on d-wave symmetry BSCCO-2122 superconductors.

Opis:
The boson-fermion model was proposed to describe superconductivity in short coherence length superconductors. In this work we use it to study impurity induced inhomogeneities in high temperature superconductors as found in numerous scanning tunnelling measurements. The model was formulated in real space and solved with help of Bogoliubov-de Gennes approach. Disorder in the boson or fermion subsystem is directly coupled to the superconducting order parameter and leads to severe changes of superconducting properties like local order parameter and density of states. We present the results for many impurities randomly distributed over otherwise clean and periodic two-dimensional square lattice.

This work reports results of studies on transport properties of single-layer devices based on polyazomethine thin films with different metal electrodes. Recorded I-V characteristics of Au-PPI-Au and Au-PPI-Al structures were analyzed in detail. It appears that I-V characteristics of Au-PPI-Au structures are consistent with the Mott-Gurney law with the mobility value of $2× 10^{-6} cm^2$/(V s). Relatively low current in Au-PPI-Al devices is attributed to high value of the Schottky barrier and/or due to low density of longer conjugated segments in polyazomethine thin films.

Herein we report results of studies on stability of diodes based on organic semiconductors such as poly (3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) and soluble derivative of polyazomethine poly(1,4-(2,5-bisoctyloxy phenylenemethylidynenitrilo)-1,4-phenylenenitrilomethylidyne), (BOO-PPI). Both polymers were deposited on glass/ITO substrate with or without covering with blocking layer: poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(4-styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) and finished with Al back electrode. Prepared devices were studied by monitoring their electrical conductivity under nitrogen atmosphere and ambient air conditions. Under nitrogen atmosphere a marked influence of presence of the blocking layer on the diodes electrical conductivity was revealed. The P3HT diodes prepared without PEDOT:PSS thin film shown quick degradation, whereas presence of these layers stabilizes electrical conductivity in these devices. Inversely, the PPI based diodes without the PEDOT:PSS revealed stable conducting properties, while corresponding diodes with PEDOT:PSS layer showed degradation traces of their conducting properties.

Opis:
The waveguiding in thin planar structures with quadratic magneto-optical medium is analysed. The permittivity tensor elements with quadratic magneto-optical constants are specified. From synchronous condition for guided modes in layered system with magnetic ordering the dispersion relation of waveguide is presented. The reflection coefficients for s-polarized light at transversal, longitudinal, and polar configurations as incidence angle function are described. The influence of quadratic magneto-optical effect on the resonant character of the waveguiding term is described in detail. The theory covers the situation in which the optical response of the structure is linear in the amplitude of the incident wave.

In this work, we study the influence of the PEDOT to PSS ratio on the optical properties of PEDOT:PSS thin solid films using spectroscopic ellipsometry and UV-vis spectrometry. In the data analysis, we develop a consisted composition dependent optical model of PEDOT:PSS. This enabled us to account for contributions from PSS part within the Tauc-Lorentz optical model and from PEDOT part within the Drude-Lorentz optical model. Moreover, we relate the optical properties of PEDOT:PSS thin solid films to their electrical specific conductivities in the frame of the generalized effective medium theory. Determined in this manner electrical conductivities of five commercially available water dispersions of PEDOT:PSS are compared with their nominal values.

Opis:
Composite structures are made of two or more components with significantly different physical or chemical properties and they remain separate and distinct in a macroscopic level within the finished structure. This feature allows for introducing optical fiber sensors into the composite material. These sensors can demonstrate stress distribution inside tested material influenced by external tensions. Two types of the optical fiber sensors are used as the 3D structure. One of them is based on application of fiber Bragg grating inside the core of the fiber. Longitudinal stress changes parameters of the Bragg grating and simultaneously, spectral characteristics of the light transmitted through the fiber. The second one is based on application of highly birefringent fibers which, under external stress, introduce polarization changes of the output light.
