Opis:
The aim of this contribution is to analyze to some extent the reflectivity of family of organic salts known as the Bechgaard salts. The reflectivity will be calculated using a well known theoretical framework. Since this calculation demands as input data the electrical conductivity and the susceptibility, existing results for these quantities were used. The main motivation for this calculation was to attempt to "tie up" the reflectivity with various parameters of the Bechgaard salts in the Hubbard model. As these materials are quasi-one-dimensional, it is hoped to extend in the future the results of this contribution to systems of higher dimensionality. Details of the calculation leading to an expression for the reflectivity will be discussed. It is nonlinear, and shows the dependence of the reflectivity on various material parameters (within the Hubbard model), such as the transfer integral or the band filling. The position of the region where the reflectivity tends to zero will also be estimated as a function of the model parameters. Finally, some possibilities of extension of the results obtained to 2D systems are briefly mentioned.

The static criterion that the amplitude of the principal peak of the liquid structure factor has a constant value along the freezing line and the onset of freezing are studied from the structure factors and the static dielectric functions of halide salts interacting via the effective pair potentials through the hypernetted-chain approximation. It is observed that the criterion above is restricted to the effective charge difference. The critical value of plasma parameter at freezing is affected by the mobility and number concentration of anions and cations. The distribution of the value of the static dielectric function closest to the wave number axis in the negative region is also determined by the charge difference and the ordering of ions and related to the onset of freezing.

A new type of field-induced spin-density wave is shown to occur in a weak-coupling layered model which may be relevant for the highly anisotropic electronic structure of the Bechgaard salts. The modulation vector of this instability is perpendicular to the layers and close to the direction of the magnetic field applied perpendicular to the reciprocal layers. The magnitude of the modulation vector, order parameter and critical temperature have an oscillatory dependence on the magnitude of the magnetic field.

The antioxidant properties 4 herbal infusions (of lavender flower, melissa leaf, verbena herb, and birch leaf), 2 salts (Dead Sea and Bochnia Mine salts) and 8 herbal salts (combination of herbal extract and salt) have been evaluated by 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl-ESR (DPPH-ESR) test, ferric reducing antioxidant power and spin trap ESR using the Fenton reaction. The influence of herbal extracts and herbal salts on lipid membrane permeability has been studied with the spin probe ESR in the range of 293-323 K. The highest antioxidant activity was determined for melissa leaf preparations followed by birch leaf preparations in DPPH and ferric reducing antioxidant power assays whereas in the Fenton reaction the highest radical scavenging was observed for verbena herb and melissa leaf preparations. The lowest membrane permeability was observed in the presence of infusions of melissa and birch leaves, followed by corresponding herbal salts based on Bochnia Mine salt, and it was lower than in the reference system. On the other hand, lavender infusion increased the permeability of the model membrane, whereas the lavender salts decreased it. Therefore, the antioxidant activity of herbal infusions and salts towards skin could be inhibited by a lowered permeability. Thus, the combination of permeability studies with antioxidant studies in the presence of model lipids could be potentially used for optimization of other types of herbal bath salts.

Opis:
In this work, we present a study of the effect of diffusion annealing at 700°C for 1 h on the nature and properties of boride layers obtained on XC38 steel through a molten salt consisting of borax (Na₂B₄O₇) and boron carbide (B₄C). We evaluated the changes brought by the diffusion annealing on the morphology of the boride layer, the thickness of this layer, the distribution of elements in the steel, and the hardness. Comparing the results obtained allowed concluding that the diffusion annealing will completely transform the two-phase layer formed of FeB and Fe₂B borides in a single-phase layer consisting of single boride Fe₂B. The transformation of the two-phase boride into a single-phase boride is done with an increase in thickness of about 30% compared to the initial thickness of the sample. The values of Si concentration obtained in the underlying zone after the diffusion annealing treatment are more important than those obtained in the same underlying zone of samples borided directly by immersion in molten salt consisting of borax and silicon carbide (SiC).

Various metal salts (Na, K, Rb, and $NH_4$) of monochloro acetic acid were prepared and the $\text{}^{35}Cl$ nuclear quadrupole resonance frequencies were measured at room temperature. A comparative study of nuclear quadrupole resonance frequencies of monochloro acetic acid and its metal salts is carried out. The frequency shifts obtained in the respective metal chloroacetates are used to estimate the changes in the ionicity of C-Cl bond. Further, the changes in the ionicity of C-Cl bond were used to estimate the percentage of intra-molecular charge transfer between respective cation-anion of the metal salts of chloro acetic acid. The nuclear quadrupole resonance frequency is found to decrease with increasing ionicity of the alkali metal ion.

A comparison study of the shape of spectra, g-factors and linewidths with respect to the composition and crystal structure of studied compounds is presented. While the genuine-organic anion-radical salts display a typical EPR response originating from TCNQ pairs, the spectra of metal-organic anion-radical salt are dominated by the contribution of transition metal.

Opis:
Fluoranthene and perylene radical cation salts are quasi-one-dimensional conductors, which show a Peierls transition to a charge-density-wave ground state. Radical cation salts with different stoichiometries composed of the aromatic donor molecules fluoranthene (Fa = C$\text{}_{16}$H$\text{}_{10}$) or perylene (Per = C$\text{}_{20}$H$\text{}_{12}$) and the counterion X¯ = PF¯$\text{}_{6}$ were investigated. We find that the temperature dependence of the electrical conductivity and the properties in the charge-density-wave ground state strongly depend on the composition of the crystals. When fluoranthene is replaced by perylene, the Peierls transition is shifted from 180 K to 120 K and the ground state energy gap decreases from values of 120-180 meV to 60-80 meV. In the charge-density-wave ground state the threshold field for nonlinear conductivity varies between 0.1 and 1 V/cm for different systems. Our results indicate that disorder, three-dimensional coupling and commensurability effects play an important role for the transport properties of these systems.

The microwave conductivity (10.2 GHz) qualitatively follows the dc conductivity. The difference is in the window of diminished conductivity between phase transition and reentry, where the microwave conductivity is higher than the dc conductivity. This indicates the existence of a crystal fraction with higher (metallic) conductivity (portion: ≈ 1‰) not seen by dc methods.

In fact, to get our calculation, we start from an expression for the electronic density of states in a compound of the above type. In addition, various aspects related to superexchange interaction in both the paramagnetic and ferromagnetic cases are discussed and the electronic conduction process in the ligand orbital is studied.

The temperature dependence of the electrical properties of heterojunctions with silicon formed by conductive organic polymer composites with networks of two complex tetracyanoquinodimethane salts (of N-n-butyl-isoquinolinium and of diethyl methyl sulphonium cations) were studied. We show that it is possible to prepare junctions with quite good rectifying properties, comparable to those obtained using other organic semiconductors. The observed forward-bias current-voltage characteristics can be satisfactorily fitted using the modified Schottky equation. Reverse bias and C-V characteristics show that the transport mechanism, especially in the case of p-Si junctions is more complicated and probably tunnelling between localized levels plays an important role.
