Opis:
The necessary actions connected with interpretations of examining of physical properties of sea bottom structure is developing of proper procedure of modeling of the layered structure. The implementation of the acoustic waves for the determination of seabed stratification requires a precise diagnosis of the topic from both the theoretical and practical side. Little differences between the parameters of sediments, as well as irregular distance between layers make the interpretation of the images of cross sections uneasy. The paper presents the model of stratified structure of seabed in the form of a liquid on which falls the perpendicular elastic wave. Since the description of the seabed is made on the basis of reflected impulse shape, which provides the information about the structure and material properties such as density and speed of wave propagation, the important role among other things has the spatial resolution, because the pulse length determines the possibility of distinguishing between the layers. These aspects require very careful analysis of the form of reflected signals.

Opis:
A laser induced quadrupole-dipole collisional energy transfer system of Ca-Sr is proposed and the four-state quadrupole-dipole laser induced collisional energy transfer model is presented. The excitation spectrum calculated for the Ca-Sr system is characterized by a doublet structure and a width which is about twice wider than the dipole-dipole laser induced collisional energy transfer results. Calculating results show that the full width at half peak of the profile becomes larger and the quasi-static wing tends to be a broad flat as the field intensity increases, which are different from the reported results of dipole-dipole laser induced collisional energy transfer processes, dipole-quadrupole and quadrupole-quadrupole. A cross-section of $2.48 \times 10^{-14} cm^{2}$ at a laser field intensity of $5.21 \times 10^{7}$ V/m is obtained which indicates that the quadrupole-dipole process can be an effective way to transfer energy selectively.

A strong laser field ( ≈ 10¹⁵ W/cm²) induced low-collisional-energy charge transfer process in Ne⁺-He system is explored. In the low collisional energy regime, the cross-section can be ≈ 10¯¹⁷ cm² which is about two orders of magnitude higher than the collision-only process. With increasing collisional energy the cross-section curve displays flattens and the charge capture tends to be practically independent of the laser detuning. In addition, we find that the capture probability in this Ne⁺-He system varies significantly with the laser polarization angle.

Opis:
This paper is intended to highlight the effect of copper addition on the pitting corrosion resistance of aluminium-base powder metallurgy parts. Results obtained on these mechanically alloyed (MA) specimens are compared with parts of MA-Al without added copper, as well as with commercial aluminium alloys. Immersion tests from 2 to 96 hours in 3.5% NaCl solutions, and potentiostatic techniques, were used to study the pitting corrosion. It was concluded that copper addition, in a similar way that in commercial aluminium alloys, produces a negative effect on the pitting corrosion resistance, because of the formation of Al₂Cu. These precipitates produce galvanic cells that favour the specimen pit. Therefore, increasing the copper content of MA-Al, although improving their ductility, worsens the pitting corrosion resistance of these alloys.

The formation of thin oxide films on {111} and {110} single crystal specimens of Fe20Cr5Al based oxide dispersion strengthened alloy during the early stages of oxidation up to 1000°C was investigated by atomic force microscopy. The atomic force microscopy results revealed the crystalline character of a corrosion layer. The alumina scale morphology (height and grain size of crystallites) was only slightly dependent on the crystallographic texture of the underlying bulk material. The results show that atomic force microscopy has the potential to study surface structure of oxide layers in the initial stages of an oxidation process.

Opis:
Multipod flower-like zinc oxide (ZnO) nanowires have been successfully synthesized on Si(111) substrates using a pulsed laser deposition prepared Zn film as "self-catalyst" by the simple thermal evaporation oxidation of the metallic zinc powder at 850°C without any other catalysts or additives. The pre-deposited Zn films by pulsed laser deposition on the substrates can promote the formation of the ZnO nuclei effectively. Also it can further advance the growth of the flower-like ZnO nanowires accordingly. X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectrum, and photoluminescence were used to analyze the structure, morphology, composition and optical properties of the as-synthesized products. The results demonstrate that the nanowires were single crystalline with hexagonal wurzite structure, grown along the [0001] in the c-axis direction. Room temperature photoluminescence spectrum of the ZnO nanowires shows a nearband-edge ultraviolet emission (peak at ≈ 384 nm) and a deep-level green emission (peak at ≈ 513 nm). In addition, the growth mechanism of the flower-like ZnO nanowires is discussed in detail.

Carbon nanotubes are increasingly being used as a support for catalyst particles. Carbon nanotubes are also used for filtering and reduction, their widespread use due to the high surface area which allows for attachment to the surface of carbon nanotubes a large amount of metallic (Ni, Fe, Pt, etc.) or oxide particles, serving as catalysts. The use of ceria-zirconia mixed oxide deposited on the surface of the nanotubes has not yet been sufficiently examined. Scanning transmission electron microscope with high-angle annular dark-field imaging and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy imaging were used as primary research techniques. Conducted research using high-angle annular dark-field imaging allows determining that catalyst particles have a regular shape which is the best from the standpoint of catalysis. Using a fast Fourier transform: and diffraction pattern has identified the catalyst particles as CeZrO₂.

The aim of presented paper is an investigation of the structure changes in AlSi9Cu alloy after remelting by a laser beam. Scanning transmission electron microscopy was applied for structure characterization and precipitates phase identification. In the raw material, precipitates were larger and during remelting such precipitates were dissolved and very fast crystallization came next. Observed precipitates are generally uniform: in size, shape, and chemical composition. Generally, after remelting precipitates are not uniformly distributed in the whole sample but areas with dense, nanometric precipitates are common. Numerous volumes with elongated Ti precipitates, identified as Ti(Al_{1-x}Si_{x})₃, were found. Observed precipitate can strongly affect material properties (even in a case of law Ti concentration) because it may act as a crystal nucleus for other phases.

The main goal of this paper is to present results of the experimental investigation of the seabed by means of parametric echosounder in the form of chosen images. The phenomena of nonlinear interaction between two parallel beams of high intensity gives as a results very narrow beam of low frequency wave, that enables to penetrate the sea bottom. The first step of our investigations was calibration of all the elements of the measuring system. In the second step the marine trials were carried out. For this purpose the mobile measuring set up was installed on the board of sailing boat. The details about the measuring devices can be found below. The main goal of these investigations was to determine the structure of the seabed for different places of the Gulf of Gdańsk. The special features of parametric generation of sound beam allow to penetrate the bottom for more then several meters. At the end of the paper, a set of images that illustrated the results of investigations has been presented.

Propagation of acoustic waves in the sea, in particular in shallow sea, depends on several factors. The basic of them are source power and frequency of acoustic waves, spatial distribution inhomogeneous medium in which acoustic wave propagates, and distributions of speed of sound and density of seawater. The coastal conditions, which limit water medium from above (free surface of the sea) and from bottom (the seabed), are no less important. In this paper we will consider the examination of the layer structure of the seabed by the means of the acoustic methods. By the notion of acoustic methods we mean use of phenomena in the field of nonlinear hydroacoustics. Based on this, the parametric sonar was constructed and was used to the seabed sounding. This parametric sonar is commonly called sub-bottom profiler. The selected results of extensive experimental research, that have been performed in waters of the Gulf of Gdańsk in the years 2008-2010, will be presented in this work.
