    Opis:
    A surface-breakdown triggered vacuum switch with parallel disk electrodes and semiconductor surface flashover trigger electrode has many advantages, it is easy to be triggered and machined. The resistance of the trigger gap has been increased in terms of modifying the thickness of the semiconductor layer and improving coating process technology. The trigger gap resistance, trigger voltage and trigger waveforms were experimentally tested. The results show that the triggering characteristics can be improved by increasing the trigger resistance.

    Cross-sections for elastic scattering of muonic hydrogen on helium nuclei, (hμ)$\text{}_{1s}$ + He$\text{}^{++}$, where h and He$\text{}^{++}$ stands for a hydrogen and a helium isotope nucleus, respectively, were calculated in the one-level adiabatic approximation for a range of collision energies from 0 to 50 eV. Bound states and energy levels of (hμHe)$\text{}^{++}$ molecular ions were also calculated and compared with their Born-Oppenheimer counterparts. It is shown that adiabatic corrections are responsible for proper positions of the Ramsauer-Townsend minima in (hμ)$\text{}_{1s}$+He$\text{}^{++}$ elastic scattering and, at the same time, they significantly influence bound states and energy levels of (Heμh)$\text{}^{++}$ and (Heπh)$\text{}^{++}$ ions. Calculations were performed in the frame of the phase-function method.

    Detailed studies on ionization of atoms and molecules by electron impact have made numerous contributions to understanding of the structure of atoms and molecules including the interaction between particles. After a ionizing collision a scattered electron, an ejected electron and a recoil ion is formed. Doubly differential cross-sections give detailed information for one of the outgoing electrons. In this study, we report the angular distribution of double differential cross-sections of ejected electrons from He in intermediate energy region.

    Doppler broadening measurements performed by a slow positron beam on p-type Si samples implanted with He at 20 keV and at a fluence of 5×10$\text{}^{15}$ and 2×10$\text{}^{16}$ cm$\text{}^{-2}$ are reviewed and discussed. The evolution of the open volume defects distribution was studied as a function of isochronal and isothermal annealing of the samples. In the as implanted samples the majority of the open volume defects produced by implantation was passivated by He. The open volume defects density decreases, reaching a minimum at 250°C. In the 250-650°C temperature range there is an increase in defects due to the appearance of vacancy clusters. At the higher annealing temperatures (700-900°C) the vacancy clusters disappear only in the samples implanted at 5×10$\text{}^{15}$ cm$\text{}^{-2}$.

    We report the first systematic study of the temperature dependence of optically induced birefringence in benzene, toluene, nitrobenzene, chlorobenzene, 2-bromoanisole, 2-methylbenzaldehyde, 3-methylbenzaldehyde, 3-chlorobenzaldehyde and cinnamaldehyde. The optical Kerr constants, relative to benzene, are measured in a broad temperature range. Refractive indices and densities of the liquids for the temperatures studied were also determined. For the above liquids the T$\text{}^{-1}$ temperature dependences of the optical Kerr constants have been found. From our measurements, the molar Kerr constants and the effective molecular anisotropies were calculated as functions of temperature. The mean values of the second-order optical hyperpolarizability have also been determined.

    A strong laser field ( ≈ 10¹⁵ W/cm²) induced low-collisional-energy charge transfer process in Ne⁺-He system is explored. In the low collisional energy regime, the cross-section can be ≈ 10¯¹⁷ cm² which is about two orders of magnitude higher than the collision-only process. With increasing collisional energy the cross-section curve displays flattens and the charge capture tends to be practically independent of the laser detuning. In addition, we find that the capture probability in this Ne⁺-He system varies significantly with the laser polarization angle.

    Opis:
    A low magnetic field magnetic resonance imaging system for small animal lung imaging using hyperpolarized $\text{}^{3}$He gas is presented. The hyperpolarized $\text{}^{3}$He gas at 1 mbar pressure and 30% polarization is obtained by the metastability exchange optical pumping technique. The magnetic resonance imaging unit is based on a permanent magnet of open geometry, built from a new generation Nd-B-Fe magnetic material. It produces the magnetic field of 88 mT with homogeneity better than 50 ppm in the 10 cm diameter sphere, after application of passive shimming. The magnetic field gradients of 30 mT/m are generated by a set of biplanar, actively shielded gradient coils. The first $\text{}^{1}$H images of various biological objects, as well as $\text{}^{3}$He images of the rat lung in vivo obtained in the described system are shown. In terms of sensitivity and resolution, the technique is superior to conventional $\text{}^{1}$H magnetic resonance imaging, and offers great possibilities in early diagnosis of lung diseases.

    Ab initio calculations based on the density functional theory have been performed to investigate the migrations of interstitial helium (He) atoms in Au-Ag alloys with two different mass ratios (Au₃Ag₂ and AuAg). The results show that the migration mechanisms of He atoms mainly depend on the crystal structures of alloys, and their migration energy barriers are affected by the migration paths in Au-Ag alloys. He interstitials preferentially occupied the most stable sites, but it is difficult for He interstitials to migrate to nearest most stable sites via second stable positions at room temperature. When He atom is at the tetrahedral position which has higher formation energy, it possibly migrates to nearest tetrahedral positions directly for AuAg alloy. In addition, comparing the migration of He defects in the two alloys, we found that the properties of migration energy and relative stability of He atoms probably slightly depend on the mass-density of Au-Ag alloys.

    The paper presents configuration interaction (CI) calculations of both the length and velocity forms of the oscillator strengths for 1s2s$\text{}^{1}$S$\text{}^{e}$ → 1s2p$\text{}^{1}$P$\text{}^{0}$ transition in the He atom. For the first time the agreement between the length and velocity values to within about 0.045% has been achieved.

    Thin layer of $SiO_2$ thermally grown on p-type Si was implanted with $He^+$ ions at 30 keV with a dose of $5×10^{15}$ ions/$cm^2$. $SiO_2//Si$ samples were depth profiled by Doppler broadening positron annihilation spectroscopy to identify induced defects in the silicon oxide, at the interface and in the Si substrate. In one sample the silicon dioxide layer was removed by etching after implantation. It is shown that removing the silicon dioxide layer some more information about defects into the substrate can be found.

    Optical limiting performances of acid blue 29 are investigated under irradiation by a 35 mW continuous wave He-Ne laser. The optical limiting behavior is investigated by using transmission measurement through samples with different concentrations. Our results show that the optical limiting efficiency is concentrations dependence. Induced self-diffraction patterns are observed at relatively high intensities starting from 15 mW.
