Opis:
The paper deals with evaluation of a 3D scanning method elaborated by the authors, by applying it to the analysis of the wear of forging tools. The 3D scanning method in the first place consists in the application of scanning to the analysis of changes in geometry of a forging tool by way of comparing the images of a worn tool with a CAD model or an image of a new tool. The method was evaluated in the context of the important measurement problems resulting from the extreme conditions present during the industrial hot forging processes. The method was used to evaluate wear of tools with an increasing wear degree, which made it possible to determine the wear characteristics in a function of the number of produced forgings. The following stage was the use it for a direct control of the quality and geometry changes of forging tools (without their disassembly) by way of a direct measurement of the geometry of periodically collected forgings (indirect method based on forgings). The final part of the study points to the advantages and disadvantages of the elaborated method as well as the potential directions of its further development.

Opis:
This work presents an automatic system for generating kidney boundaries in computed tomography (CT) images. This paper presents the main points of medical image processing, which are the parts of the developed system. The U-Net network was used for image segmentation, which is now widely used as a standard solution for many medical image processing tasks. An innovative solution for framing the input data has been implemented to improve the quality of the learning data as well as to reduce the size of the data. Precision-recall analysis was performed to calculate the optimal image threshold value. To eliminate false-positive errors, which are a common issue in segmentation based on neural networks, the volumetric analysis of coherent areas was applied. The developed system facilitates a fully automatic generation of kidney boundaries as well as the generation of a three-dimensional kidney model. The system can be helpful for people who deal with the analysis of medical images, medical specialists in medical centers, especially for those who perform the descriptions of CT examination. The system works fully automatically and can help to increase the accuracy of the performed medical diagnosis and reduce the time of preparing medical descriptions.

Opis:
Variations in rock mass properties are well-established in rock mechanics and underground mining. The literature is replete with methods of assessing them and determining values that are used in design or numerical analysis. In this paper, a simplified 3D model is constructed for a tabular orebody in the Canadian Shield and instability is quantified using the ”brittle shear ratio” criterion to calculate the volume at risk. A 1-4-7 stope pillar sequence is implemented on four active levels, and three variations in the properties of the host formation are assessed. It is observed that the locations of ore at risk follow the formations of stope pillars and are then transferred to the sill pillars above and below. Instability in the footwall and the hanging wall is observed to be lesser in volume but remains persistent. With the allocation of weak properties to the host rock, at-risk volumes increase in the orebody, footwall, and hanging wall, and the reverse trend occurs with strong greenstone properties. It is concluded that the stress increase in the orebody is due to transfers from the weaker host rock, while that in the greenstone formation is due to the use of a lower compressive strength value.

Opis:
Many characteristics of capillary-porous materials, including limestones and dolomites, depend on the structure of the pore space of a given material, so the article attempts to accurately determine the geometric characteristics of pores and their ability to transport water. Much information on the pore structure of carbonate rocks can be obtained from literature studies. There is a lack of information on the use of full hysteresis dilatometric thermoporometry methods for this purpose, as well as the fusion of differential analysis of volumetric strain (DAVS) results with mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP) results. The subject of the research presented in this article is the analysis of pore structure in carbonate rocks using the method of differential analysis of volumetric strain and mercury intrusion porosimetry. Based on the measurements made, the pore size, pore volume, content of empty pores and pores containing water incapable of phase transformation were analyzed. The geometry of mesopores of rock samples examined by differential analysis of volumetric strain and mercury intrusion porosimetry was compared. A fusion of the distribution of mesopores from the DAVS study with a part of the distribution of meso- and macropores obtained by the MIP study was performer.
Przedmiotem badań przedstawionych w niniejszym artykule jest analiza struktury porów w skałach węglanowych z wykorzystaniem metody różnicowej analizy odkształceń i porozymetrii rtęciowej. Na podstawie przeprowadzonych pomiarów przeanalizowano wielkość porów, objętość porów, zawartość porów pustych oraz porów zawierających wodę niezdolną do przemiany fazowej. Porównano geometrię mezoporów próbek skalnych badanych metodą różnicowej analizy odkształceń i porozymetrii rtęciowej. Wykonano fuzję rozkładu mezoporów z badania DAVS z częścią rozkładu mezo- i makroporów uzyskanych w badaniu MIP.

Opis:
The following article introduces determination method of displacement compressors basing on its work parameters, by means of dimensional analysis. Operation of displacement compressors as volumetric compressing devices, according to J. Girtler, has been treated as a new physical quantity of [J·s] dimension. Such operation can be interpreted as mechanical energy transfer, through working organ, to gas factor volume in working space of the compressor in a definite time. Operation of volumetric compressor in which energy transfer, takes place, can be an information carrier of its technical condition. It expresses transformation of energy delivered to the gas, being forced through, by the compressor. This quantity can be determined, on the basis of, algebraic diagram of dimensional analysis, constructed by S. Drobot. The above diagram allowed us to control correctness of inference rules, in relation to mathematics, used in numerical functions of volumetric compressors operation, fitted in installations. Constructional solutions of compressors depend on the kind of compressed factor, the way of cooling, size of compressor and on the kind of propulsion and destination of compressor.

Opis:
This article describes the construction and principles of operation of a prototype energy-converting machine – a flow machine with pistons rotating in toroidal spaces. A comparative analysis of the results of simulation and experimental tests of fluid flow resistance in the presented prototype machine has been performed with the use of correlation and integral calculi. The article also presents a comparative analysis of the volumetric efficiency of the examined pump and of a Vogelsang pump with similar design and size. The present state of the research makes it possible draw conclusions about the high exploitation value of the proposed pump construction. For this displacement pump, performance increases along with rotational speed. However, it is different from other pumps by virtue of is simple and compact construction as well as greater capacity in relation to its size.

Opis:
The bone mineral density BMD and content BMC were analysed in the tibiotarsal bones of ducks in the postnatal development as influenced by age and sex. One hundred birds from the nesting till the slaughtering maturity were included in the experiment. The analysis was conducted using a densitometer, Norland - Excell Plus and pQCT computed tomography, XCT Research SA Plus. The statistical analysis was conducted using the Kruskal-Wallis one-way analysis of variance (age) and the U-Mann -Withney test (sex). All calculations were performed in Statistica 9.0 (StatSoft, Inc. Tulsa, USA), at P ≤ 0.05. Two-factor analysis of variance ANOVA was applied and Pearson’s correlation coefficients were calculated. The densitometer research showed that BMD and BMC increased in the postnatal development for both sexes. The volumetric bone mineral density vBMD analysis using computed tomography showed that volumetric bone mineral density vBMD of the middle of the diaphyses in situ gradually attenuated during the postnatal development both in males and females, i.e. from 620 mg/cm3 (2 wk) to 500 mg/cm3 (8 wk). The biggest vBMD loss was observed in the diaphyses of females in 4 and 6 wk (r = - 0.63 and r = - 0.79; P ≥ 0.05). The BMC decrease was observed in the proximal metaphyses between 4 and 6 wk for both sexes, r = - 0.52 (males), r = - 0.53 (females); P ≤ 0.05. The gradual loss may be the cause of deformities and fractures of the tibiotarsal bones observed from 4 wk in particular bone sections of both sexes. The achieved results may constitute a helpful source of information for water poultry breeders to prevent limb diseases.
