Opis:
The paper aimed at comparing the yield and concentrations of zinc, copper and nickel in maize cultivated in soil fertilized with two different sewage sludge with yielding of maize fertilized with manure and solely with mineral fertilizers. The experiment was conducted in plastic pots, of which each contained 8.5 kg of air-dried soil with granulometric composition of light sandy loam and neutral pH. Sewage sludge used for the experiment originated from two municipal sewage sludge treatment plants in Krzeszowice (sludge I) and Niepołomice (sludge II), while manure from a private farm in Czernichów district. The test plant was maize (Zea mays) cultivated for 74 days and then harvested for green forage. On the basis of conducted research it was found that various fertilizer combinations applied in the experiment had a significant influence on the test plant yielding. All compared fertilizer variants allowed maize to produce statistically significantly higher yield in comparison with the yield harvested from the unfertilized soils. Fertilization with sewage sludge I supplemented with mineral treatment and application of solely mineral salts proved the most beneficial for the maize yield. Applied fertilizer combinations affected the content of microelements. The highest concentrations of nickel in maize green mass were assessed in plant samples from the unfertilized object, whereas zinc and copper from mineral fertilization variant. Except of zinc, introducing additional metal doses did not influence their increased content in plant organs. Soil enrichment with zinc contained in sewage sludge I and II (respectively 77.4 mg and 49.9 mg ∙ pot-1) contributed to its elevated concentration in maize roots but at the same time this metal content statistically significantly decreased in maize shoots in comparison with the amounts determined in plants fertilized with mineral materials.

The degree of complexation of microelement ions by the biodegradable chelating agent - IDHA was examined in the work. The tests were carried out in water and in a simulated fertilizer environment. In order to compare the obtained results, tests were also carried out for the commonly used EDTA. The performed analyzes allow to determine the influence of the presence of compounds containing macroelements on the degree of binding of microelement ions by the biodegradable IDHA and EDTA chelators. The obtained results make it possible to determine the optimal conditions for the chelation of cations by IDHA, which in the future may be used in the production of micronutrient fertilizers on a large scale.

Opis:
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the foliar fertilizer InCa on the chemical composition of fruits and leaves of sweet cherry cultivar ‘Burlat’. The study involved 14-year old sweet cherry trees of ‘Burlat’ cultivar, grafted onto ‘PHL-A’ rootstock and growing at 4×3 m spacing. The trees were sprayed with InCa calcium fertilizer based on CaT technology (manufacturer: Plant Impact). The fertilizer was applied three times, at a dose of 1.5 dm3ha. The first foliar fertilization was performed at the beginning of the flowering period, and the next two took place at fourteen-day intervals. The fruits were analysed for nitrate content, and both fruits and leaves were considered for dry weight and macro- and micronutrient analysis. The use of InCa fertilizer improved the dry matter and calcium content and reduced potassium, magnesium and cadmium level in the leaves and fruits of sweet cherry. The fertilizer facilitated narrowing K:Ca and K:(Ca + Mg) ratioes and extending of K:Mg, and especially Ca:Mg ratio in both leaves and fruits. Foliar supplementation with the investigated preparation resulted in an increase in nitrogen and manganese content, and a drop in phosphorus, copper, nickel and lead concentration in the leaves of the studied sweet cherry cultivar.

Opis:
The article discusses the issues related to moulding of micro-elements from powder materials and it covers the first stage of the process - injecting to the mould cavity and filling the micro-channels. The material, which constituted the composition of a special thermoplastic binder and ceramic powder, was injected. The binder consisted of paraffin, polyethylene, wax and stearic acid. The nanometer powders from Al2O3 ceramic material with granularity of 660 nm and 135 nm and irregularly shaped particles were used. Different loading of composition by powder were used. The analyses of the impact of injection parameters, such as the mould-s temperature and the temperature of the material, on the quality of filling the micro-mould cavity with the material, were presented. The special moulding insert with micro-channels was made to perform the analyses to that effect with width from 50 to 1000 mm. The presented results of filling the micro-channels indicate considerable influence of the mould's temperature and the cross-section of microchannels. Slight impact of the material's temperature was observed; however, this factor does not have a considerable influence on filling the channel. The obtained information was used in the experiments of injection the samples for bending tests and tensile tests, and the shapes in the form of toothed wheels.

Opis:
In the years 2008-2011, an environmental study was conducted for Polish soils, focusing on the south-eastern Poland soils, as they exhibit significant acidification. This study aimed at assessing the current pHKCl and the supply of basic macro- (P, K, Mg and S-SO4) and microelements (B, Cu, Fe, Mn and Zn) in the collected soil samples, and also at determining their relationship with the soil agronomic category, humus content and pH class. Soil reaction and humus and macronutrient content were positively correlated with the amount of colloidal clay and particles < 0.02 mm. In the majority of cases, the macro-element content in the soil was positively correlated with soil pH and humus content. As for microelements, a usually significant and positive correlation was found between the soil agronomic category and the content of manganese, iron and zinc, whereas for the content of boron and copper, no such relationship was observed. A significant and positive correlation between soil reaction and the content of manganese, iron and boron was also found. Such correlations were not observed in relation to copper and zinc content. Statistical analysis indicated that the content of boron and manganese depended to the greatest extent on the investigated physicochemical properties.

Opis:
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD), glaucoma and cataracts are the most common eye diseases. They are predominantly caused by insufficient amounts of antioxidants in the body, which include lutein, zeaxanthin, lycopene, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins and micronutrients. The positive properties of these biologically active substances affect the neutralization of reactive oxygen species, slow absorption of UV radiation, and improve blood supply to the structural elements of the eye. Deficiency of these substances has a negative effect on the functioning of the eye, leading to degeneration of its structures. Presently, a fully effective method of treatment has not been discovered, therefore preventative measures, especially those including a healthy diet and lifestyle, are highly important as the human body cannot synthesize these beneficial substances. This requires increasing public awareness concerning products with high nutritional value, which should be included in people's daily diet.

Opis:
Fish meat is a valuable dietary component owing its exceptionally high nutritional value, as it contains high quality protein, fat (including n-3 acids) and a variety of vitamins and minerals. The aim of this study was to determine the content of ash and minerals (macro- and microelements) in three freshwater fish species, and quantitative changes in smoked and marinated products. The research material originated from three species, i.e. common carp (Cyprinus carpio), rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykkis) and northern pike (Esox lucius). The following parameters were determined in samples of raw as well as processed fish meat: ash (using the gravimetric method, according to PN-ISO 936:2000) and the minerals Na, K, Ca, Mg, P, Fe, Zn, Mn, Cu (using inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry ICP-OES). The statistical analysis of the results did not show significant differences in the ash content in meat of the three fish species. The ash content in processed fish meat differed significantly from that in raw fish, thus indicating changes in concentrations of the minerals. The differences depended on the applied processing technology. As for the mineral content, the examined fish species achieved high nutritional quality, with the highest content of magnesium, iron and zinc in common carp, potassium and phosphorus in rainbow trout and calcium in pike. The levels of the minerals in processed fish meat differed significantly from those in the raw material, especially in carp products (higher amounts of almost all the determined elements). Smoking as well as marinating resulted in a considerable increase in the sodium contet, and the highest values were obtained for marinated rainbow trout. Monitoring the content of macro- and microelements in fish meat is important for the consumer.

The conducted study was aimed at evaluation of the effect of antitranspirant produced with natural resins under the trade name Vapor Gard on the content of microelements and trace elements in sweet cherry leaves and fruits. A single-factor experiment was conducted in the randomised block design, with five replications, in 2010–2011. Examinations were performed on 13-year-old sweet cherry trees of the cultivar ‘Burlat’, being grafted on the ‘PHL-A’ rootstock. Tree spraying with antitranspirant Vapor Gard, at a 0.75% concentration, was applied at the stage of fruit colouration. The total content of manganese, zinc, copper, nickel, lead and cadmium in the leaves and fruits was determined by the AAS method. Antitranspirant Vapor Gard had an effect on increasing significantly the manganese, copper, zinc, nickel and cadmium quantities and decreasing the content of lead in the sweet cherry leaves. The antitranspirant being applied did not have any effect on the quantity of microelements and trace elements in the sweet cherry fruits of the cultivar ‘Burlat’.

Opis:
Although beneficial properties of mineral waters are acknowledged by law in many countries, the use of water for medicinal purposes is not universally accepted. Notably numerous waters (especially mineral and curative ones) have high concentrations of mineral and trace elements. These mineral waters are common on the market and their availability is not regulated by law. Due to the hazard of overdosing, quantification of trace elements and minerals seems to be necessary. The World Health Organization, European Standards and Polish Standards recommend different methods for elemental determination, i.e. spectrometry, photometry for zinc determination, colorimetry or spectrometry for copper, and ionic chromatography for calcium, chloride and fluoride. In this paper, alternative, electrochemical methods have been applied to determine zinc, copper, calcium, chloride and fluoride in most popular natural and curative waters from southern Poland. The determined elemental content varied between 3.85-33.54 μg L-1 for zinc, 85-15.33 μg L-1 for copper, 2.8-2433.63 mg L-1 for chloride, 0.4-1.66 mg L-1 for fluoride and 11.05-478.48 mg L-1 for calcium. The voltammetric method was tested according to the validation procedures, taking into account the following parametes: linearity range, limit of detection and limit of quantification and precision. The results show that the applied electroanalytical methods are suitable for determination of the selected elements in waters of natural origin, ensuring low instrumental and analysis costs while providing results comparable with ones achieved with recommended methods.

Opis:
A tillage system can affect significantly the concentration of some heavy metals and their availability to plants which grow on the tilled soil. The purpose of this study has been to determine the impact of different tillage systems on the chemical properties of arable sandy loam soils under the same crop rotation, organic residue management and mineral fertilization. A single-treatment field experiment in a randomised block design was performed on sandy loam soils. Four-year tillage study data were compiled and compared with respect to full-inversion tillage (FIT), strip-till (ST) and reduced tillage (RT) systems. Soil samples were mineralised in a mixture of HF and HClO4 acids to determine the total content of metals. Total organic carbon (TOC) and total nitrogen (Nt) were also assayed. The content of available metal forms was determined using diethylene triamine pentaacetic acid (DTPA). The soil maintained in the FIT system contained significantly more Zn and Fe available to plants than the soil cultivated according to the RT and ST systems. The FIT and ST systems decreased the total Zn, Cu, Mn and Fe content in soil significantly compared with the RT system. Relative accumulation of the heavy metals at the depth of 30-50 cm can be related to the distribution of the clay fraction in soil profiles. In the topsoil (0-30 cm), the average content of TOC was significantly higher under the RT than under FIT and ST systems. The results confirm that a tillage system is one of the factors affecting the content of heavy metals, TOC accumulation and heavy metal distribution in sandy loam soils, although the pedogenic processes determining the quality of arable soils quality must be considered as well.

Various apple rootstock genotypes may affect fruit tree nutrition. The plant nutritional status has a significant impact on the growth and yield of apple trees. The experiment was conducted in 2007-2015, at the Experimental Station in Samotwór near Wrocław, south-western Poland. During the nine-year study, the impact of different rootstocks (M.26, B.7-35, B.396, ARM 18, M.9, B.491, P 16, B.146 and PB-4) on the nutritional status, growth and yield of ‘Mutsu’ apple trees was investigated. Samples of leaves were collected for the analysis of macro– and microelements in the second half of July in 2009-2011. The study showed an ambiguous influence of rootstock on leaf macro-and microelement composition. This effect differed depending on a year. The results of the average content of the analysed components showed no effect of a rootstock on P, Mg, Mn and Zn concentrations in the leaves. M.26 rootstock resulted in the lower copper level (a significant difference when compared to B.7-35, M.9, B.146 and B.491). Trees on B.491, M.26 and B.7-35 rootstocks were worse stocked in boron than apple trees on ARM-18, M.9 and B.396. In comparison with stronger growing rootstocks, trees on PB-4 were characterised by the low content of calcium. Trees on B.7-35 rootstock grew the most, while the ones grafted on PB-4 showed the weakest growth and had the smallest fruits. The highest number of root suckers was observed for trees grafted on B.7-35 and ARM 18. Until the ninth year after planting, the largest yield was obtained from trees on B.396. In the present study, this rootstock proved to be the best for the ‘Mutsu’ cultivar

The paper presents the results of a three-year field experiment aimed at an assessment of the effect of the weather conditions on the yield and the contents of macroelements (P, Mg, Ca, Na and K) and microelements (Fe, Mn, Cu and Zn) in seeds of three soybean cultivars (2 large seed Aldana and Gaj and 1 small seed Nawiko). A significant effect of meteorological conditions on the yield and chemical composition of the analyzed soybean seeds was demonstrated. In the year 2002 when the course of thermal and moisture conditions was the most advantageous, the largest seed yields were obtained (3.1 Mg ha–1) with the highest mineral content. Among the analyzed varieties in the subsequent years the small seed one accumulated in its seeds greater amounts of Mg, Ca, K, Mn and Zn in comparison with the large seed cultivars.

W analizowanym materiale oznaczono: suchą masę, ogólne zawartości azotu wg metody Kjeldahla, fosforu metodą wanado-molibdenową, potasu i wapnia metodą fotometrii płomieniowej, magnezu, miedzi, cynku, manganu i żelaza metodą ASA, a boru metodą kurkuminową. W liściach roślin obliczono średnią zawartość i odchylenie standardowe makro- (N, P, K, Ca i Mg) i mikroelementów (Cu, Zn, Fe, Mn, B) oraz określono współzależności występujące pomiędzy tymi pierwiastkami. Zaopatrzenie pomidora uprawianego na plantacjach Lubelszczyzny w makroelementy w większości przypadków wykazywało przekroczenie zakresu optymalnego. Jedynie zawartość azotu w liściach mieściła się w zakresie optymalnym, a fosforu, potasu, wapnia i magnezu przekraczała ten zakres. Zaopatrzenie pomidorów uprawianych na Lubelszczyźnie w mikroelementy w większości przypadków przekraczało zakres optymalny, a w jednym – niedoborowy. Zakres optymalny przekraczała zawartość w liściach: miedzi, cynku, manganu i żelaza; niedoborowy – boru. Stwierdzono, że spośród oznaczanych makro- (N, P, K, Ca, Mg) i mikroelementów (Cu, Zn, Mn, Fe i B) jedynie w nielicznych przypadkach (3) wystąpiły istotne, dodatnie zależności pomiędzy oznaczanymi pierwiastkami. Należy jednak zauważyć, że tylko w jednym przypadku współczynnik determinacji przekroczył 50% (77,1%).
In the years 2009–2011, in the Lublin Region, an environmental study was conducted with the objective of estimation of the supply of tomato plants with macro- and microelements. The estimation was conducted after performing chemical analyses of leaves of those plants. The leaves were collected from plantations situated in seven localities. Samples of leaves were collected during the harvest of the fruits. The chemical analyses were performed at the accredited laboratory of the Regional Chemical-Agricultural Station in Lublin. Assays performed on the material analysed included the following: dry mater, content of total nitrogen according to the Kjeldahl method, content of phosphorus – with the vanadium-molybdenum method, potassium and calcium – with the method of flame photometry, magnesium, copper, zinc, manganese and iron with the ASA method, and boron – with the curcumin method. The mean contents and standard deviation of the content of macro- (N, P, K, Ca and Mg) and microelements (Cu, Zn, Fe, Mn, B) in tomato leaves were calculated, and correlations occurring among those elements were determined. In most cases the level of supply in macroelements of tomatoes grown in plantations in the Lublin Region indicated exceeding of the optimum range. Only the content of nitrogen in the leaves was within the optimum range, while the levels of phosphorus, potassium, calcium and magnesium exceeded that range. The supply of tomatoes grown in the Lublin Region with microelements in most cases exceeded the optimum range, and in one case it was at the deficit level. The optimum range was exceeded for the leaf content of copper, zinc, manganese and iron; the deficit content was related to boron. It was found that among the assayed macro- (N, P, K, Ca, Mg) and microelements (Cu, Zn, Mn, Fe and B) only in a few cases (3) there appeared significant positive correlations between the elements assayed. It should be noted, however, that only in a single case the coefficient of determination was higher than 50% (77.1%).

Opis:
Dry matter, crude protein, crude fat, crude ash, crude fibre and elements (phosphorus, potassium, sodium, calcium, magnesium, zinc, iron, manganese, lead, chromium, molybdenum, cadmium, cobalt, nickel and copper) were determined in extracted and unextracted Moringa oleifera leaves. The leaves were ground in a laboratory grinder (unextracted leaves) and a portion was subjected to continuous comprehensive water extraction at 95-100°C (extracted leaves). Next, densification was carried out in a rotary evaporator, where the material was dried natively in vacuum. The chemical content of the samples was analysed according to standard methods. The concentration of P was determined by the colorimetric method. An Atomic Absorption Spectrometer was used to determine K, Na and Ca by emission flame spectroscopy, and Mg, Zn, Fe, Mn, Pb, Cr, Mo, Cd, Co, Ni and Cu by absorption flame spectroscopy. The nutritional value of herbs depends on the chemical composition of dry mass, especially the content of crude protein, mineral components and fibre fractions. The crude protein content of the extracted and unextracted leaves was 13.6 and 31.6% dry matter (d. m.), respectively. No crude fibre was found in the moringa leaf extract. Dried leaves contained 8% d. m. of crude fibre. Concentrations of crude fat in unextracted leaves implicated that they had five-fold more lipids than extracted from leaves. Total carbohydrates appeared to be the main component of dry mass. More total carbohydrates were found in the extract than in dried leaves (71 and 50% d. m., respectively). The research showed significant differences in the content of macronutrients between extracted and unextracted leaves of moringa. The extracted leaves contained higher quantities of all the studied macroelements. Moringa oleifera leaves may be considered to be a good and safe source of Fe, Zn and Cu. No Ni or Cd was found in the leaves of moringa.
