Artykuł opisuje podstawowe zagadnienia związane z dokonywaniem wyboru: „make or buy”. Wybór ten jest typowym wyborem w zarządzaniu projektami, w tym projektami poszukiwań geologicznych. Artykuł opisuje główne zasoby, które biorą udział w realizacji projektu, a następnie podstawowe kryteria dokonywania wyboru, takie jak: spełnienie wymagań, koszty i czas realizacji. W dalszej części opisano fazy projektu oraz przedstawiono główne powody dokonywania wyboru „make or buy” w poszczególnych jego fazach. Mamy z nim do czynienia praktycznie na każdym etapie projektu. Szczególnie korzysta się z umiejętności i kompetencji podmiotów zewnętrznych (wybór „buy”) w fazie inicjowania projektu i jego wykonywania. Zlecenie usług specjalistycznej firmie zewnętrznej w fazie inicjowania pozwoli uniknąć problemów z realizacją projektu, gdyż nie zawsze przedsiębiorstwo potrafi przewidzieć wszystkie działania oraz związane z nimi czas i koszty. Zaangażowanie firmy zewnętrznej w wybrane zadania dotyczące wykonawstwa projektu wynika najczęściej z faktu, że przedsiębiorstwo nie posiada „na stałe” zasobów, które potrzebne mu są do wykonania projektu. Zwykle prowadzi ono działalność podstawową, do której zasoby są ściśle zdefiniowane. Realizacja projektu, który nie mieści się w ramach tej działalności wymaga dodatkowych zasobów, które trzeba pozyskać. Fazy planowania i organizowania projektu oraz jego zakończenia zwykle realizowane są przy użyciu zasobów własnych głównie z uwagi na to, że wymagają ogólnej wiedzy, zwykle dostępnej w przedsiębiorstwie. Reasumując, wybór ,,make or buy” jest nieodłącznym elementem podczas zarządzania projektami, w tym geologicznymi projektami poszukiwawczymi.
The Article describes the basic issues connected with making choice: ,,make or buy”. This choice is typical in the project management, among others in geological exploration projects. The article describes also essential resources, that participate in the project realisation, and then basic criteria of the choice making, such as: performance, cost and time. Hereinafter the project phases were described and main reasons of the choice making in particular project phases were shown. We have with it to recon on every stage of the project. Especially the skills and competences of external companies (choice “buy”) are used in the initial phase of the project and its carrying out. Outsourcing the services to the specialist external company in the initial project phase could avoid problems with its realisation, because not always the enterprise can foresee all activities and its time and costs. Engagement of the external company in chosen tasks of the carrying project phase is a result of the fact, that it doesn’t possess “continuously” resources, which are used for project realisation. Usually it realises the basic activity for which it has directly defined resources. Carrying out the project, excluded from this activity, requires additional resources, which the enterprise has to acquire. Planning organisation project phases as well as closing phase usually are carried out with the use of internal resources mainly because they require general knowledge, usually available in the enterprise. In conclusion, the choice „make or buy” is the inseparable element during project management process, among others geological exploration project.

It is anticipated that utilization of geothermal resources for renewable energy production will continue to grow globally. Since cost of drilling and well construction constitutes a considerable share of the total cost of the geothermal installations, development and evaluation of low-cost alternatives is crucial for expansion of this industry. This paper describes slimhole casing design for geothermal exploration wells, as an alternative for reduced cost and improved environmental performance. The main goal of the paper is to contribute to cost effective casing design program that satisfies severe reservoir conditions of geothermal wells. A case study is presented for casing design for a 2000 m deep vertical well with water level at 200 m, where the New Zealand Code of Practice has been applied. The “worst case scenario”, i.e. when temperature and pressure follow the boiling point depth curve (BPD), has been considered as base case for the casing design, when drilling in a high-temperature geothermal area. Alternative methods are also presented for determining the minimum casing setting depths and the results are compared. Pressure and temperature conditions inside the well were established using X-steam program, an Excel add-in, and the final results, establishing loading criteria that the casing has to withstand i.e.: burst, collapse and tension/compression are presented.

This study focused on relations between identity and sense of self-sufficiency. These relations were analysed in the context of educational and vocational activity. 204 persons without disabilities and 230 persons with different kinds of disability participated in the study. Participants were divided into three groups: (1) 18-24-year-olds – students, (2) 25-30–yearolds – unemployed and (3) 25-30–year-olds – employed. The results revealed that unemployed people have significant problems with identity formation. This group obtained the highest scores on ruminative exploration and the lowest scores on the scales of commitment making and identification with commitment. Self-sufficiency proved to be a moderator of the relations between educational/vocational activity on the one hand and exploration in breadth and exploration in depth on the other hand. In students, level of exploration was high in individuals with a high sense of self-sufficiency whereas in the unemployed strong exploration was observed in the group with low sense of self-sufficiency. The need to conduct studies where participants are recruited from populations which seldom attract researchers’ interest, such as the unemployed and people of low social status, is also noted.

In accordance with the classic – developmental – approach to identity originated by Marcia (1966), there are two basic identity formation processes: exploration and commitment. The first step on the way to mature identity is exploration. The aim of the present study was to analyze the dynamics of exploration in the period when it begins: in early adolescence. The participants in the longitudinal study (with three measurements at half-year intervals) were 327 adolescents aged 11 to 15 (M = 13.26, SD = 1.20) – elementary and middle school students. The sample was balanced in terms of gender (45% were girls). The instrument we used was the Early Identity Exploration Scale (EIES; Kłym & Cieciuch, 2015), enabling the measurement of identity exploration in 12 domains: physical appearance, free time, family of origin, work, boyfriend–girlfriend relationships, own opinion formation, perception of own place in the life cycle, self-reflection, future, future family, outlook on life, and attitude toward rules. The analysis was performed using a latent growth curve model. It turned out that in some domains (physical appearance, work, boyfriend–girlfriend relationships, and outlook on life) the level of exploration systematically increased, despite the relatively short time of the study; the domain of boyfriend–girlfriend relationships was the only one in which we found no interpersonal differentiation in the intensity of this increase. It also turned out that there was interpersonal differentiation in the level of exploration at the outset in all the domains analyzed.

In the article we present the results of a study devoted to identity changes in late adolescence. The participants were students of three types of upper-secondary schools: basic vocational schools, technical upper-secondary schools, and general upper-secondary schools. Measurement was performed five times, in three consecutive years: 2012/2013, 2013/2014, and 2014/2015. The first measurement was carried out in the first semester of the first grade (students’ mean age: 16 years; n = 310), and the fifth measurement was performed during the first semester of the third grade (students’ mean age: 18 years). The number of students who took part in all five measurements was 118 (38% of the initial sample of n = 310). The instrument we used was the Dimensions of Identity Development Scale (DIDS/PL; Brzezińska & Piotrowski, 2010; Luyckx, Schwartz, Berzonsky et al., 2008). In the group of general upper-secondary school students, we observed an increase in adaptive exploration (in breadth and in depth) as well as an increase in the strength of commitments over the 2.5 years of schooling. Among students of vocational schools, especially basic vocational schools, we observed regressive changes, such as a decrease in adaptive exploration, a decrease in commitments, an increase in the experienced difficulties with identity formation (an increase in ruminative exploration). The results confirmed that different educational paths may involve differences in terms of the changes taking place in students’ identity in the period of adolescence.

Application of sensors for on-site fast identification and discrimination of dominant ore bearing particles from associated gangues in a complex ore is an important route in minerals exploration and extraction industries. This paper considers identification and discrimination of copper bearing minerals from associated gangues using near infrared sensors. Different copper bearing minerals in the Akiri copper ore are differentiated on the basis of their near infrared spectra behaviour. The near infrared spectra of individual samples are correlated with their mineralogy and chemistry as analysed by X-Ray diffraction and X-Ray fluorescence equipment, respectively. The obtained results indicated that the detection limit of the near infrared sensor is better than that of both X-ray diffraction and X-ray fluorescence equipment used. Hence, in addition to the minerals identified by the X-ray diffraction equipment, other near infrared active minerals with concentration below the X-ray diffraction detection limit were also detected by the near infrared sensors.

The paper discusses the aesthetic aspects of place-making practices in the urban environment of Western metropoles that are struggling with the progressive undifferentiation of their space and the weakening of communal and personal bonds. The paper starts by describing the general characteristics of an urban environment as distinct from the traditional vision of a city as a well-structured entity, and in relation to formal and informal aesthetics and participatory design ideas. The author then focuses on two contrary but complementary tactics for translating a space into a positively evaluated place: by domesticating it through introducing nature into an urbanscape; and by accentuating its alienness with the example of the urban exploration movement. The growing popularity of the latter is presented in relation to the discourses related to the decline of cities and the romantic endeavours for reaching into the realm of the unknown or the uncanny in order to rediscover and enrich the unique identity of a place. The paper ends with conclusions that present the necessity for the cultivation of a multidimensional aesthetic awareness and an aesthetic engagement as a crucial issue in the complex task of endowing places with a density of meaning.

Innovation in organisations by balancing exploration and exploitation is a vast topic in the organisation theory and management literature since the publication of the article by James March in 1991. The construct has been widely used in extant research, but the diversity of approaches, operationalisations of variables and different levels of analysis make it difficult to compare the results. The purpose of this article is to present research gaps from the perspective of antecedents of exploration and exploitation with reference to the particular levels of analysis. The article contains an overview of the latest research, predominately from the last decade.

The article is of theoretical and empirical character. The main objective is to identify certain conditions related to the innovative ambidexterity of Polish startups. The objective implementation protocol of the study determined its structure. Its first part presents the most important theoretical concepts related to the presented issues. In particular, on the basis of the literature on the subject, analyses of the innovative ambidexterity. Moreover a start-up was equated with a company operating no longer than a year, which offers an innovative solution. Theoretical considerations provided the basis for the empirical presentation of the results of the author's own research conducted in 2019 in Poland on startups. On the basis of the outcome it has been established the most important factors determining innovative ambidexterity in startups are: having access to external source of financing and to external infrastructure as well as the acquisition of a license/patent. Moreover it has been diagnosed that create innovation and simultaneously reduce in startups the tension between exploitation and exploration activities to a large extent rely on external sources when implementing their innovation processes. For the theory on management, the theoretical-empirical deliberations presented in the article may be a valuable source of information within the scope of the influence the particular elements of innovative ambidexterity have on startups. However, for entrepreneurs they may be an impulse in the field of effective use of the innovative ambidexterity in the process of building competitiveness of young companies in Poland.

In the processual approach to identity, the role of the interaction between subjective and contextual factors in the process of its development is emphasized. Based on the model of Luyckx et al. (2008) relationships between identity and educational context, as well as the tendency to experience shame and guilt were analyzed.. 821 people aged from 14-25 and belonging to six educational groups: (1) lower secondary school, (2) basic vocational school, (3) technical upper secondary school, (4) general upper secondary school, (5) post-secondary school (medical rescue, massage therapy, cosmetology, occupational therapy) and (6) university, took part in the research. Two questionnaires were used: The Dimensions of Identity Development Scale (DIDS), to allow the measurement of the five dimensions of identity postulated by Luyckx et al (2008) and The Personal Feelings Questionnaire-2 (PFQ-2, Harder, Zalma, 1990) to measure of the shame and guilt proneness. The results show that general upper secondary school students in terms of the dimensions of identity are closer to lower secondary school students rather than to their peers from technical and vocational schools. Among general upper secondary school students not only was a higher intensity of an identity crisis observed, but also a strong tendency to experience shame and guilt. Among lower secondary school students and general upper secondary school students, people with diffusion and moratorium as identity statuses prevailed, while in the remaining groups the achievement and foreclosure identity were observed more frequently. A general relationship was also observed, namely, a greater tendency to experience shame was associated with a higher intensity of an identity crisis.

W tym celu podjęto organizację seminariów pod hasłem „Metodyka rozpoznawania i dokumentowania złóż kopalin stałych” Wyróżniającym się przedmiotem zainteresowania są zagadnienia dotyczące opróbowania i oceny jakości kopaliny, popularyzacja doświadczeń i osiągnięć w komputeryzacji prac dokumentacyjnych, zastosowania metod geofizycznych, ochrony środowiska i planowania zagospodarowania przestrzennego oraz gospodarki złożem.
The need of improvement of exploration methods had motivated organization of special seminars on exploration methodology and its results reporting. The main topics of investigation and exchange of experience are: sampling and mineral quality evaluation, computerization of the mode of presentation geological data, utilization o0f geophysical methods, environment protection and land use problems related to exploration and minreral recomomy.

This article discusses the issue of a relationship between oral characteristics of dialects with the functioning of the lexis that is specific to them. A dialect, as a speech of an oral community, functions based on an intergenerational message. This influences the “storage” of a significant portion of the local lexis in the sphere close to passive command. This property determines, to a large extent, the limited resource of lexicographic materials, since a considerable portion of the vocabulary is provided by respondents only after a straightforward intervention of the explorer.
