    Opis:
    In this article, the elastic buckling behavior of cylindrical shells under external pressure is studied by using a symplectic method. Based on Donnell’s shell theory, the governing equations which are expressed in stress function and radial displacement are re-arranged into the Hamiltonian canonical equations. The critical loads and buckling modes are reduced to solving for symplectic eigenvalues and eigenvectors. The buckling solutions are mainly grouped into four categories according to the natures of the buckling modes. The effects of geometrical parameters and boundary conditions on the buckling loads and modes are examined in detail.

    Opis:
    This paper proposes theoretical and numerical approaches to scrutinize the free vibration of orthogonal stiffened cylindrical shells. According to K´arman-Donnell shell theory, the total energy of the stiffened cylindrical shells is derived. Based on the principle of minimum potential energy, the eigenfunction related to the frequency is established and solved by developing a Matlab program. Analytical solutions of the natural frequency for free vibraion of the stiffened cylindrical shells are calculated and are verified against the finite element results from ABAQUS software. On account of the observations from the parametric study, an optimization scheme of the stiffeners is proposed.

    Opis:
    Free vibration of grid stiffened circular cylindrical shells is investigated based on the first Love’s approximation theory using Galerkin method. Full free edges are considered for boundary conditions. Anequivalent stiffness model (ESM) is used to develop the analytical solution of the grid stiffened circular cylindrical shell. The effect of helical stiffeners orientation and some of the geometric parameters of the structure have been shown. The accuracy of the analysis has been examined by comparing results with those available in the literature and finite element approach.

    For laminated rectangular plates and cylindrical shells the analytical, closed form solution is found using classical and first order transverse shear formulations of kinematical hypothesis. The analysis is carried out for a specific boundary conditions dealing with two opposite edges being simply supported. The evaluated method of solution can be treated as the benchmark for numerical analysis since analytical results can be obtained directly with the use of the symbolic packages, such as Mathematica, Maple or Matlab.

    Weak formulations of mixed state equations of closed laminated cylindrical shells are presented in the Hamilton System. The Hamilton canonical equation of closed cylindrical shell is established. By means of applying the transfer matrix method and taking the advantage of Hamiltonian matrix in the calculation, a unified approach and three-dimensional thermoelastic solutions are obtained for the buckling analysis of closed trick laminated cylindrical shells. All equations of elasticity can be satisfied and all elastic constants can be taken into account. Numerical results are given to compare with those of FEM calculated using SAP5.The principle and method suggested here have clear physical concepts. The equations and boundary conditions proposed in this paper are weakened. The solutions and results given here may serve as a benchmark for other numerical procedures.

    Opis:
    The objects of consideration are thin linearly elastic Kirchhoff-Love-type circular cylindrical shells having a periodically microheterogeneous structure in circumferential and axial directions (biperiodic shells). The aim of this contribution is to formulate and discuss a new averaged general asymptotic-tolerance model for the analysis of selected dynamic problems for the shells under consideration. This model is derived by applying the combined modelling which includes two techniques: the asymptotic modelling procedure and a certain extended version of the known tolerance non-asymptotic modelling technique based on a new notion of weakly slowly-varying function. Contrary to the starting exact shell equations with highly oscillating, non-continuous and periodic coefficients, governing equations of the averaged combined model have constant coefficients depending also on a cell size. The differences between the general combined model proposed here and the corresponding known standard combined model derived by means of the more restrictive concept of slowly-varying functions are discussed.

    The linear 3D piezoelasticity theory along with active damping control (ADC) strategy are applied for non-stationary vibroacoustic response suppression of a doubly fluid-loaded functionally graded piezolaminated (FGPM) composite hollow cylinder of infinite length under general time-varying excitations. The control gain parameters are identified and tuned using Genetic Algorithm (GA) with a multi-objective performance index that constrains the key elasto-acoustic system parameters and control voltage. The uncontrolled and controlled time response histories due to a pair of equal and opposite impulsive external point loads are calculated by means of Durbin’s numerical inverse Laplace transform algorithm. Numerical simulations demonstrate the superior (good) performance of the GA-optimized distributed active damping control system in effective attenuation of sound pressure transients radiated into the internal (external) acoustic space for two basic control configurations. Also, some interesting features of the transient fluid-structure interaction control problem are illustrated via proper 2D time domain images and animations of the 3D sound field. Limiting cases are considered and accuracy of the formulation is established with the aid of a commercial finite element package as well as comparisons with the current literature.

    A high specific stiffness, high specific strength, and tailoring the properties for specific application hale attracted the attention of the researchers to work in the field of laminated composites and Sandwich structures. Rapid use of these laminated composites and Sandwich structures necessitated the development of new theories that suitable for the bending, buckling and vibration analysis. Many articles were published on free vibration of beams, plates, shells laminated composites and sandwich structures. In this article, a review on free vibration analysis of shear deformable isotropic beams, plates, shells, laminated composites and sandwich structures based on various theories and the exact solution is presented. In addition to this, the literature on finite element modeling of beams, plates, shells laminated composites and sandwich structures based on classical and refined theories is also reviewed. The present article is an attempt to review the available literature, made in the past few decades on free flexural vibration response of Fiber Metal laminated Composites and Sandwich panels using different analytical models, numerical techniques, and experimental methods.

    Opis:
    The relevant load case of open thin-walled shells is often wind loading during construction. Because of the missing stabilization effect of the roof they show a very high sensitivity to buckling which results into higher wall thicknesses. As part of the European RFCS research project BiogaSS the Institute for Metal and Lightweight Structures of the University of Duisburg-Essen carried out investigations on open thin-walled tanks made of austenitic and duplex stainless steels under wind load to study a possible economic advantage which might be gained from the consideration of the elastic postbuckling behaviour. This contribution presents not only experimental and numerical results but also first recommendations regarding the range of possible buckling reduction factors which might be incorporated in future revisions of EN 1993-1-6 and EN 1993-4-2.
    Najbardziej adekwatnym przypadkiem obciążenia otwartych, cylindrycznych powłok cienkościennych jest obciążenie wiatrem podczas wznoszenia powłoki. Wobec braku stabilizującego efektu dachu, powłoki wykazują bardzo dużą wrażliwość na wyboczenie, która prowadzi do konieczności zwiększenia grubości ścian powłoki. Instytut Konstrukcji Lekkich i Metalowych Uniwersytetu Duisburg-Essen przeprowadził badania stateczności otwartych zbiorników cienkościennych wykonanych z nierdzewnych blach ze stali austenicznej i ze stali duplex poddanych działaniu obciążenia wiatrem. Celem tych badań było określenie możliwych korzyści ekonomicznych wynikających z uwzględnienia sprężystych stanów pokrytycznych. Badania te były częścią Europejskiego Projektu RFCS BiogaSS. Prezentowana praca przedstawia nie tylko wyniki badań eksperymentalnych i analiz numerycznych, lecz także pierwsze propozycje zaleceń dotyczących zakresu redukcyjnych współczynników wyboczeniowych, które w przyszłości mogą być włączone do norm EN 1993-1-6 i EN 1993-4-2.

    Opis:
    Thin linear-elastic cylindrical shells having a micro-periodic structure along two directions tangent to the shell midsurface (biperiodic shells) are objects of considerations. The aim of this contribution is to formulate a new mathematical nonasymptotic model for the analysis of dynamic problems for such shells. The model is derived by applying the combined modelling procedure presented in (11). The combined modelling includes both the asymptotic as well as the non-asymptotic (tolerance) modelling techniques. The resulting combined model has constant coefficients and takes into account the length-scale effect. An important advantage of the proposed model is that it makes it possible to separate the macroscopic description of special dynamic problems from their microscopic description. Application of the resulting model equations to the analysis of a certain micro-vibration problem is presented.
    W pracy wyprowadzono nowy nieasymptotyczny model służący do analizy dynamiki cienkich liniowo-sprężystych powłok walcowych typu Krchhoffa-Love'a, periodycznie i gęsto użebrowanych w dwóch kierunkach stycznych do powierzchni środkowej powłoki. Do wyprowadzania równań wykorzystano technikę "combined modelling" zaproponowaną w monografii (11). Modelowanie jest dwuetapowe. W pierwszym etapie, stosując procedurę modelowania asymptotycznego, otrzymuje się model makroskopowy rozważanych powłok, mający stałe współczynniki, które nie zależą od długości okresu periodyczności mikrostruktury. Zakładając, że rozwiązanie danego problemu brzegowo-początkowego w ramach modelu makroskopowego jest znane, przechodzi się do etapu drugiego, w którym w oparciu o technikę modelowania tolerancyjnego wyprowadza się równania modelu mikroskopowego nałożonego na model makroskopowy etapu pierwszego. Równania modelu mikroskopowego mają stałe współczynniki zależne od wielkości komórki periodyczności. Proponowany "combined model" może być zastosowany do badania efektu skali w zagadnieniach dynamiki mikroperiodycznych powłok walcowych. Zaletą modelu jest to, że umożliwia rozdzielenie makroskopowego opisu szczególnych zagadnień dynamiki powłok od ich opisu mikroskopowego.
