The article discusses improvisational performances of the Philomaths in the context of the advent of a so-called modernity which correlated with a rapid change in people’s lifestyles. My starting point in examining the most characteristic phenomena of the literary life in Vilnius is the newly emerged economic environment: the enormous popularity of improvised poems (performed or written impromptu) and the development of the printed press. The analysis of the Philomaths’ performances, letters and poems focuses on various aspects of improvising, and not only on poetry presentations but also on a spontaneous way of living and the process of literary production. I argue that the improvisational activity of the Philomaths can be considered as an act of experimenting with and adapting various (traditional as well as innovative) literary patterns, and therefore as a poetic laboratory of the new romantic era.

The reception of Benedict Anderson’s ideas was very fruitful in many disciplines, and his work provided key concepts that can now throw a clarifying light in some blurry matters. The expression “imagined community” has known a remarkable proliferation, a situation that led to both the formation of a research direction and to the perpetuation of a cliché. In this respect, my article pointed out some suggestive characteristics of virtual communities, explaining why the imagined community is a valuable subject for the theorists of new media. The impossibility to know in person all the members of a big community is just one factor that determines its imagined face. Moreover, the set of values and inner presuppositions that guide the members are important bricks in the construction of community. In my opinion, the virtual community is imagined as a multi-layered experience (technological, conversational, relational etc.). The dynamic of a virtual community contains the tension amongst these layers and the degree of its imagined side depends on multiple factors. In order to illustrate these aspects, I gave a brief example by analysing a Romanian virtual community, using the triad common language – temporality – high centers. In spite of its limitations, the perspectives offered by this concept are still useful for understanding the nature of online communities. Thus, the imagined community is a valuable set of beliefs and practices that underlie and bolster the effective meaning and functioning of the virtual communities.

Opis:
This essay concentrates on early modern expressions of literary hybridi-ty in the 17th-century gallant letters of Vincent Voiture (1597-1648), Charles Cotin (1604-1681) and Antoine Godeau (1605-1672), circulating in the Parisian salon L’Hôtel de Rambouillet. Firstly, we look at the hybridity of the letter form an sich, within the context of salon sociability and early gallantry. Secondly, we study the mul-tiplicity of both the authorial voice and the audience of the gallant letter. Thirdly, we highlight the intriguing exchange between genres within the gallant letter, as well as their confrontation and, finally, cross-fertilisation. This tripartite case study sub-stantiates our conviction that literary hybridity functions as an intriguing indicator and catalyst of literary evolution and creation.

Aim: The paper aims at highlighting philosophical roots of the relation issue between nature and education in the process of socialization. Method: For the purpose of the research critical philosophical analysis and comparison of Thomas Hobbes’ and Jean-Jacques Rousseau’s texts has been used. Concept: The first part of the paper clarifies the concept of nature and explains changes in understanding of this concept thorough the history of philosophy, with the special emphasis on transformation that happened in transition from medieval to modern period. Since both Hobbes and Rousseau are representatives of modern philosophy, the second section of the paper shows how modern concept of nature manifests in the works of the two philosophers and compares, in a more detailed way, their understanding of human nature or natural state of mankind, focusing on comparison of their concepts of human natural unsociability. The third part examines more closely the role of education in transformation of human individuals into social beings. Results: Research shows that, for the two philosophers, the role of education in the process of socialization consists in denaturalization of human beings. Conclusion: Hobbes’ and Rousseau’s idea of the relation of education and nature in the process of socialization constitutes a basis for justification of manipulations of education for political ends. To avoid such manipulations and find the adequate concept of education, paper suggests to search for the adequate concept of human nature first.      Key Words: education, human nature, sociability, Thomas Hobbes, Jean-Jacques Rousseau.

The aim of this study is to examine how students perceive teacher trait emotional intelligence (TEI) and how those perceptions relate to students’ own self-reported attitudes and motivation. Adult students of ESL/EFL were given an online questionnaire consisting of two parts: one to provide observer-reported data on their teacher’s trait emotional intelligence and the second to measure students’ own attitudes and motivation. In total, 129 participants of 28 nationalities took part. The results showed that the perceived teacher TEI domains of teacher sociability and teacher self-control were significant predictors of student positive feelings and attitudes towards the teacher. With this paper, we make the case that observer reports of teacher TEI by students could be a valuable tool in L2 instruction by offering teachers unique insight into their own classroom behavior, thereby increasing teacher self-awareness which could lead to improved classroom practices.

Opis:
The article refers to selected elements of the sociology of Georg Simmel. It accords in general with his theory in regards to the structure of social relations, and deals in particular with the idea of sociability and the meal. The author assumes that a collective embibing of wine is a specific form of culinary consumption constituting an area for manifesting sociability. Basing himself on interviews with wine consumers, the author’s aim is to reveal the manifestations of sociability during the common consumption of this drink and to indicate the elements determining the shape and order of the social interaction: for instance, common standards of taste. As the character of such an interaction is determined by the consumption of wine, which not only imposes a certain thematic framework, but also requires the participants’ mutual adaptation, the social value of drinking can be treated as one aspect of the possible civilising effects of wine.

The authors of this paper studied psychological characteristics of remedial teachers with different altruism levels. Altruism is a motive to render assistance to anyone not consciously related to one’s own selfish interests. Subjectively it manifests itself in sympathy, being oriented towards helping others. Altruism is opposed to selfishness, which is incompatible with disinterested concern for the welfare of others and willingness to sacrifice personal interests for them. The main driving force behind altruistic behaviour is a drive to improve the situation of others rather than expecting some reward. In psychology, altruism is considered as a system of personality value priorities in which interests of another person or social community are a central motive and a moral evaluation criterion.

The current stage of socio-economic development is focused on ensuring prosperity by meeting the goals and intensifying the practices of the 4th generation smart industry. The ways and methods of advancement are being scientifically researched and specified, while at the same time revealing errors and weaknesses in the development so far, which are the potential for continuous increase of prosperity and sustainable production and consumption. From this point of view, the paper analyses and more accurately formulates the effects of smart industry 4.0 on the economy and society in a global sense. In the context of the new industry 5.0 development concept identifies significant progress in automation, robotization and digitization of imaginary processes supporting economic growth with obvious reserves and risks in the social field, as well as in relation to sustainable development and climate strategies, especially in the environmental field. In the article, the authors present the concept of models for intensification and transition from the developed implementation model for Industry 4.0 to the environment and concepts of Industry 5.0. Priorities for the development and innovation of the fourth generation smart industry within the fifth generation concept and possible synergy effects from human-robot-machine-environment cooperation, especially in the social field and in ensuring the well-being of workers in industry, are formulated in more detail. Opis:
An ancient Etruscan settlement located in the Valdichiana, along the border between Tuscany and Umbria, Cortona has attracted renewed interest over the last two decades among historians of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Falling into this line of research is the publication of the communal statute from 1325, when the government handed the reins of power to the seigneurial regime revolving around Ranieri Casali. In the same year, Cortona became an episcopal seat and thus also gained the status of a city proper. Through a careful analysis of this extraordinarily rich source, the article outlines the salient aspects of the city’s economy and society, with a focus on its environmental resources and urban activities, the distribution of wealth and its poor relief, the condition of women, and the topography of social relations. The picture that emerges from this analysis is that of a lively and dynamic city, arguably at the peak of its development, at a time when many urban centres in Italy and across Europe were already experiencing a downturn after the economic expansion of the Middle Ages.

With findings from cognitive science, neuroscience, information science, and paleoanthropology, an anthropologist and astronomer-priest team take a new look at the nature of morality, and suggest parameters that are often very different from the philosophical and theological literatures. They see morality as a biologically-based arbitration mechanism that works along a timeline with a valence of good to bad. It is rational, purposeful, social, and affected by emotion but not dominated by it. The authors examine the age and sex structure, family roles, environment, cognition, and lifeway of Homo erectus, an early hominin who arose 1.9 million years ago, and propose that he had a rudimentary moral system that his biology and culture enabled – but only after he learned to control fire. Hearths gave rise to an intense, social, emotional, experiential context where belief systems could be learned by youth before they achieved adult cognition.

The article deals with online educational courses in the Czech Republic. The subject of the investigation is the participation of individuals between 16–74 years of age in online education in the Czech Republic and its development. The investigation also focuses on the computer skills of individuals and their development between 2005–2014, and also in 2017, depending on data availability. All the above-mentioned indicators were analysed and compared to the situation in the neighbouring countries and in the European context. The methods of analysis, synthesis and comparison were applied. The research showed that the number of individuals participating in courses in the Czech Republic was relatively low in comparison to other neighbouring countries, even though the advancement of computer skills in the Czech Republic was constantly increasing from 2005 to 2014.
Zastosowano metody analizy, syntezy i porównania.

Z drugiej strony pokażę, w jaki sposób japońscy muzycy klasyczni, budując kosmopolityczne więzi koleżeńskie, pokonują bariery związane z rynkiem pracy i restrykcyjnymi politykami migracyjnymi, aby móc kontynuować swoje transnarodowe przedsięwzięcia artystyczne.
In the global classical music industry, Japanese musicians experience inequalities implied by ethnicity and race, based on the belief that the ability to practice ‘authentic’ classical music is, in a way, genetically determined. In the racialized discourse of ‘authenticity’ in classical music correct interpretation of classical compositions is associated with an essentialized concept of Western heritage, where it is rooted. The aim of this article is to demonstrate how this discourse along with the ethnic and racial inequalities, which structure classical music sector, shape transnational career paths among Japanese musicians. Heretofore, international mobility in artistic profession has been understudied in the literature on transnationality and migration. The existing research analyzes mobility among classical musicians either in terms of the cosmopolitan careers of established artists or as a precarious journey of freelancers moving between international music milieus in search of work. Based on the extensive empirical material collected in three locations: Paris, Warsaw and Tokyo, this article analyzes the experiences of professional mobility among Japanese classical musicians operating between native and European musical environments. The analysis homes in on the elements that drive and limit transnational mobility. Furthermore, I will show how Japanese classical musicians strive to continue their transnational artistic endeavors by developing ‘cosmopolitan sociability’ in order to overcome barriers related to the labor market as well as restrictive migration policies.

Opis:
This essay reconsiders interpretations of Shakespeare by Irish writer Anna Murphy Jameson and the American Transcendentalist Margaret Fuller. Developing an informal method in which the voice of the female critic rallies in defence of Shakespeare’s heroines, they intervene in a male-dominated intellectual sphere to model alternative forms of women’s learning that take root outside of formalized institutional channels. Jameson, in Shakespeare’s Heroines, invokes the language of authentic Romantic selfhood and artistic freedom, recovering Shakespeare’s female characters from earlier critical aspersion as figures of exceptional female eloquence and resilience; she adopts a conversational critical voice to involve her female readers in the interpretative process itself. Fuller, in Woman in Nineteenth Century, speaks authoritatively as a kind of female prophet to argue that women’s creative reinterpretations of Shakespeare point the way to a revitalization of a sterile literary critical field. Both writers call for the reform of women’s education through revisionist interpretations of history attuned to the representation of female exceptionalism. In embryonic form, these nineteenth century feminist writings formulate a persistent strain of socially engaged, activist feminist criticism of Shakespeare.
