Opis:
The article presents thermal-oxygen conditions of Lake Białe Włodawskie in the warm half-year (May–October) in the years 2012–2015. Due to its morphometric parameters, summer stratification develops in the lake. In the period analysed in the paper, the highest temperature was recorded in July 2012 (27.5°C), and the lowest at the bottom in May 2013 (4.2°C). The highest difference in temperature throughout the water column was recorded during measurements in July 2012. It amounted to 22.7°C (27.5°C at the surface and 4.8°C at the bottom). The highest mean temperature throughout the water column (determined as the mean from all of the analysed months) occurred in 2015 (9.7°C), and the lowest in 2013 (7.8°C). The highest water temperature corresponded to the highest air temperature for station Włodawa, located several kilometres north of the lake. The mean concentration of oxygen dissolved in water (as the mean from all of the analysed months) suggests that the highest value 4.7 [mgO2 ∙ dm-3] occurred in 2012, and the lowest 3.0 [mgO2 ∙ dm-3] in 2013. In vertical distribution, the maximum oxygen concentration mounted to 13.5 [mgO2 ∙ dm-3] in May 2013, and the minimum value decreased to zero multiple times. Complete lack of oxygen occurred each time in August, September, and October. It appeared the earliest in June 2013 (at a depth of 26 m), and the latest in August 2015 (at a depth of 28 m). The thickest water layer without oxygen was recorded in August 2013 already at a depth of 11 m. The studied lake is prone to strong anthropopressure. Due to favourable morphometric parameters and high resistance to degradation, however, it still maintains its high recreational values, although such a state may change in the near future in the context of increasing anthropopressure and observed climatic changes.

The lakes of the Powidzki Landscape Park (Gniezno Lakeland) are known for their natural and recreational values. The majority of them are located within two large glacial tunnel valleys, that in many places cut through several levels of till and inter-till aquifers. Regional hydraulic linkage systems are developed where surface water and groundwater remain in direct contact. Smaller water bodies occur between the lakes, in other tunnel valleys, in isolated meltwater basins, or in river valleys. These water bodies constitute local drainage bases. The existence in the area of such morphologically diverse lakes with different flow rates, varied morphology, and heterogeneous geological structure permitted tracing of the hydrodynamic dependencies of lake catchments of various types. Hydrogeological cross-sections, comparative analyses of structural maps for successive aquifers, bathymetric plans of lakes, and piezometric contour maps were prepared. Surface and groundwater level fluctuations were investigated, as well as their response to changing atmospheric conditions. Water balances of lakes were also determined for selected lake catchments. The study showed that all the lakes analysed are closely related to groundwater, and that the deepest ones reach lower aquifers. The majority of the lakes drain the aquifers, but some of the lakes feed them. Such a situation was documented in coastal wetlands and in the eastern part of the Park, affected by a depression cone associated with a nearby lignite opencast mine. The study showed that the deepest of the lakes analysed have a very wide catchment area of groundwater recharge, expanding beyond the boundaries of their surface catchment areas. This is important for the development of their resources, especially in periods of hydrogeological low flow.

The article presents the analysis of water level fluctuations in Lake Powidzkie in the years 1961–2015. The study shows a considerable decrease in mean water levels in the aforementioned multiannual period, averaging 9 cm∙decade–1. Such a situation is caused by natural as well as anthropogenic factors, co-determining water relations in the study area. The natural factors include the amount and distribution of precipitation, increase in air temperature and evaporation size, unfavourable relations between the lake and catchment or hydrogeological conditions. Anthropogenic factors particularly include long-term transformations of the natural environment in the region, currently associated with meliorations accompanying the nearby opencast brown coal mines and exploitation of groundwaters for municipal purposes. Water shortages occurring during dry periods were shown not to be compensated in the study area in humid years. This is particularly related to the regional lowering of the aquifer remaining in close relations with Lake Powidzkie. Counteracting the unfavourable hydrological situation is done through hydrotechnical infrastructure which partially limits water outflow from the lake through damming.
W artykule dokonano analizy zmian poziomu wody Jeziora Powidzkiego w latach 1961–2015. Z przeprowadzonych badań wynika, że w powyższym wieloleciu nastąpił znaczny spadek średnich stanów wody, średnio o 9 cm∙dek.–1. Sytuacja taka spowodowana jest czynnikami naturalnymi i antropogenicznymi, które współoddziałują na kształtowanie się stosunków wodnych na badanym obszarze. Do pierwszych należy zaliczyć ilość i rozkład opadów, wzrost temperatury powietrza oraz niekorzystne relacje jezioro–zlewnia. Drugie to przede wszystkim długotrwałe przeobrażenia środowiska przyrodniczego w tym regionie, które obecnie utożsamiane są z odwodnieniami, towarzyszącymi pobliskim odkrywkom węgla brunatnego oraz eksploatacji wód podziemnych na potrzeby komunalne. Wykazano, że niedobory wody, powstające podczas okresów suchych, nie są rekompensowane na badanym obszarze w latach wilgotnych, co z kolei związane jest głównie z regionalnym obniżeniem poziomu wód podziemnych, z którymi Jezioro Powidzkie pozostaje w ścisłym kontakcie. Przeciwdziałanie niekorzystnej sytuacji hydrologicznej stanowi zabudowa hydrotechniczna, która poprzez piętrzenie jeziora częściowo ogranicza ubytek wody z akwenu.

The paper presents the dynamics of daily water temperature fluctuations in Lake Kierskie (West Poland) and determines the effect of air temperatures and wind speed on the variability of the parameter (water temperature). The analysis was based on hourly water temperature values from the period from May 2012 to January 2018. The data analysis permitted the description of the thermal regime of waters in the lake in the hourly cycle in reference to each month, and designation of months characterised by the highest and lowest stability of water temperatures. More than half of the analysed days was characterised by a change in water temperature not exceeding 1°C. The course of water temperature showed strongly positive correlations with air temperature, and weak correlations with wind speed. Water temperatures in the lake were correlated the strongest with air temperatures with a 24 h time step.

Water temperature is one of the basic physical parameters of rivers and lakes. Rising temperature can transform these ecosystems over a broad range of factors (water mixing, water quality, biological conditions, etc.). In the case of rivers, their thermal regimes also can be modified by local conditions (e.g., tree cover, adjoining water bodies, etc.). In this paper, we address the functioning of the river-lake system in northern Poland (Kocunia River-Lake Sławianowskie) in terms of the effect of the lake on temperature conditions in the river. Dependencies in daily water temperatures between stations located above and below the lake were assessed with linear regression. Based on daily morning water temperatures for the period 2012-2017, it was determined that water temperature in the river below the lake was higher than at the measurement site located above the lake by an average of 1.1°C. The greatest differences were recorded in summerautumn months when average monthly downstream water temperatures were as much as 3.9°C higher than upstream water temperatures. This phenomenon is an example of a local factor (the lake) magnifying global factors, i.e. rising temperatures associated with climate change. The information in this paper can provide future reference for decision makers and state institutions with responsibility for measures aimed at reducing the effects of climate change.

Fluctuations in suspended sediment concentration (SSC) has been investigated in the Warta River(western Poland), based on data obtained for the period 1961-1980 from three gauge stations located in upstream, middle-stream and downstream areas. Over the two decades, the SSC values demonstrated wide fluctuations and an overall increase at each gauge station. No significant correlation was generally observed between SSC and discharge but high SSC was found to follow low discharge and increasing temperature during the summer seasons in some years. Measurements of SSC and discharge were used to estimate total annual suspended sediment load (SSL). SSL values were found to increase downstream along with an increase in discharge. SSC decreases along the river course. However, when it comes to changes over time, SSL variability was mainly determined by SSC changes. The maximum SSC values were primary caused by anthropogenic factors: the disposal of mine wastewater upstream, river training works, increased urbanisation and the intensification of sewage disposal. Where the river catchment has been greatly affected by anthropogenic factors, a denudation index calculated solely based on SSC and discharge does not appear to reflect the actual denudation rate, and must be treated with caution.
