    The article presents the specificity of postdependency criticism as the one which better reflects Polish realities than postcolonial criticism. The concept of postdependency impuls is introduced, that is the stimulus appearing in the individual/collective consciousness when the position of the relationship between the dominant and subordinate subject changes. This stimulus animates narration of the end (oppression) and narration of the change which often holds the traces of discourses determined by bygone oppression, as proven by the contemporary Polish prose (works of M. Tulli, D. Masłowska, B. Umińska-Keff, I. Karpowicz, D. Bieńkowski and others) touching upon the subject of Others/Outsiders and comprehension of the concept “homeland”; this prose reveals the “secrets” of former subordinates and former dominators, sometimes it is nonheroic and modest/bashful. This has made postdependency narrative acquire postdependency, affective character.

    A Suitcase Full of Manifold Paper. On Editing Leo Lipski’s Paryż ze złota… This article is an account of the “adventure” of editing Leo Lipski’s texts, be it memoirs, and epistolary and poetic forms, which are stored in his “archive” in Tel Aviv, preserved and controlled by Łucja Gliksman, a long‑time friend of his. The material collected was eventually published by Świat Literacki as Paryż ze złota. Teksty rozproszone in 2002. The aforementioned “archive” has been stored in a worn‑out, small suitcase full of undated and nearly illegible texts typed many years before by means of the manifold paper – a faded yellowish one, or, to be precise, its snippets. Therefore, the whole task of wading through them and selecting those deserving greater attention was extremely difficult. Yet another obstacle was Łucja Gliksman herself who simultaneously allowed the editor to finish her work properly and was deciding upon erasing particular content in the book in an autocratic manner, based often on her private and intimate motivation. The article is concluded with a reflection upon the uneasy task of negotiating with the right‑holders of the dead writers’ works. Key words: Leo Lipski, Łucja Gliksman, editing, Paryż ze złota…

    The article is a personal reflection upon the themes of the past and the present, prompted by the author’s visceral reaction to a text entitled Babka Druga [The Second Grandma]by Tamara Bołdak-Janowska. Coming into contact with a single, concise short story is here translated into an essay testifying to an individual experience the author has gone through, an experience of the kind mentioned by Francis Fukuyama in his considerations regarding human identity. Simultaneously, the author utilises in her investigations the poetics of experience, private world, and their literary depictions, observations based on the notion of individual experience moulded by classically understood modernity. Her aim is most of all indicating those (thematic and formal) aspects of the unconventional piece of writing by Bołdak-Janowska that refer to ramifications for one’s experience and personal identity stemming from the process of introducing into (almost pre-modern) social reality rational projects of the said reality’s development (especially including such drastic ones as those related to the Second World War).

    Tekst włącza się w dyskusję o ruchach migracyjnych, aktualizujących kwestię podziałów społeczno-kulturowych także między społeczeństwami europejskimi o silnie ukształtowanych (a dodatkowo wewnętrznie zróżnicowanych) tożsamościach zbiorowych. Stawia tezę, że analizując doświadczenia polskich migrantów ekonomicznych w Wielkiej Brytanii, można też dostrzec zasadnicze problemy polskiej transformacji ustrojowo-gospodarczej w jej aspekcie społeczno-kulturowym, które w zderzeniu migracyjnych podmiotów (podporządkowanych, zmarginalizowanych) z nowym środowiskiem szybciej niż w kraju utraciły przezroczystość i nabrały cech dyskursywnych. Wywód koncentruje uwagę na spotkaniu polskiego Swojaka (przeciętnej jednostki, uosabiającej polską peryferyjną wersję normy cywilizacyjno-kulturowej, która wyraźnie separuje Swoich od Obcych) z sytuacją, w której ów Swojak sam zajmuje, jako migrant, pozycję Obcego. Przykładowego materiału do rozważań dostarcza tom reportaży Ewy Winnickiej Angole (2014). W warunkach, w których kondycja polskiego migranta bywa przezeń (często) mimowiednie problematyzowana, podmiot taki dokonuje autoobserwacji oraz próbuje (z różnym skutkiem) odnaleźć się w relacji do miejscowych brytyjskich Swojaków, a więc źródła normy, wobec której, jako przybysz, sytuuje się na zewnątrz. Ma przy tym do dyspozycji głównie instrumenty, które – uwewnętrzniona przezeń, a powstała w innych warunkach – polska norma przewiduje do użycia w relacji z Obcym. Paradoksalność tych okoliczności, poza wszystkim innym, daje asumpt populistycznej instrumentalizacji generowanych przez nie zjawisk, co skutecznie wykorzystali zwolennicy brexitu.
    The text joins a discussion about migration movements, calling to attention the issue of socio-cultural divisions occurring also between European societies whose collective identities are both strong and, additionally, internally diverse. The article claims that, by analysing the experience of Polish economic migrants to Great Britain, we can notice key problems of the Polish system and economic transformation in its socio-cultural aspects. These problems, much sooner than in Poland, lost their transparency and became discursive due to the clash of the immigrant (subaltern) subjects with the new environment. The argument focuses on how the Polish familiar subject (an average individual, embodying the Polish peripheral version of the civilizational-cultural norm which distinctively separates Us [the familiar] from the Other [strangers]) experiences a situation in which the Familiar Pole takes on the role of the Other. Ewa Winnicka’s Angole (2014) will serve as focal point of our discussion. As the condition of the Polish migrants often happens to be unintentionally problematized, the subject in question engages in self-observation and tries, with varying results, to find himself in a relation to the local British Familiars. In this structure, the latter become the source of the norm, in relation to which the Polish migrant situates himself on the outside. At the same time, the only available instruments are those that the Polish norm ascribes for use in relation with the Other. The paradox of these circumstances, apart from anything else, gives way to the populist instrumentalization of the phenomena they generate, which was very effectively used by Brexit supporters.

    Tekst proponuje lekturę Kosmosu (1965) W. Gombrowicza ujętą w perspektywie posthumanistycznej. Stawia tezę o pre- i meta-posthumanistycznych , tj. problematyzujących tę perspektywę postrzegania rzeczywistości, walorach powieści. Proponuje czytelnikowi spojrzenie na przekaz narratora utworu jak na „sprawozdanie” z nie do końca udanego, ale otwierającego nęcące perspektywy, eksperymentu, który polegał na usytuowaniu podmiotu ludzkiego w świecie, w którym rzeczy przezeń postrzegane i rzeczy realne okazują się „na chwilę” (a może od zawsze) częściami tego samego uniwersum bez formy i treści, wnętrza i zewnętrza, niepodlegającymi hierarchizowaniu w kategoriach podrzędności i nadrzędności, niemal na równi obdarzonymi mocą sprawczą, jeśli mówić o wprawianiu rzeczywistości w ruch (w sensie znaczeniotwórczym).
    The text proposes a rereading of Witold Gombrowicz’s Kosmos (1965) in the posthumanist perspective. It puts forth a thesis that the novel contains pre- and, in a way, meta-posthumanist features, and, through them, it problematizes this way of perceiving reality. The article proposes to look at the narrator’s message as at a “report” on an experiment that has turned out to be not quite successful, but opening a new, tempting perspective. In this experiment human subject is situated in a world in which things perceived by him and real things turn out to be “for a while” (or maybe since forever) parts of the same universe without form or content, interior or exterior, not succumbing to hierarchization in categories of subordination or superiority, almost equally endowed in the power of agency, if by this we mean setting the world in motion (in the sense-creating meaning).

    Artykuł rozważa przykłady polskiej prozy po roku 1989, ukazujące skutki długotrwałej kondycji subalterna, które dochodzą do głosu w (niesymetrycznych, bo aktywizujących podmioty nierównoprawne) relacjach z Obcym. Mówi o konstrukcyjnej formie fantazmatu ojczyzny (tego, co najbardziej „swoje”) i jego selektywnym charakterze. Formułuje tezę, że problemem polskiej spetryfikowanej narracji dominującej z Ojczyzną w centrum uwagi i tożsamością podmiotu budowaną z uwzględnieniem specyficznego stosunku do Obcych jest to, iż nie chce ona przyznać, że kulturowe autorytety dyktuje teraźniejszość, a nie przeszłość i że odbywa się między nimi ciągły ruch wymiany znaczeń – zapominania i zapamiętywania.
    The article considers examples of the post-1989 Polish prose exposing the results of a long-term subaltern condition. These results get activated in relations with the Other. They are asymmetrical because they concern unequal subjects. The article posits that the phantasm of the motherland (that which is the most ‘self’) has a constructing form and selective character. It poses the thesis that the problem of the Polish petrified dominant narration with the motherland at the center of attention and subject identity marked with a specific relation to the Other is that it does not want to admit that cultural authority is created by the present time and not the past. There is a constant interchange in meaning – from forgetting to remembering and back – that takes place between them.

    The text analyzes the traces of the Polish People’s Republic dominant discourse and its counter-discourse in contemporary Polish prose writing which maintain the foundational national narrative developed under partitions in the 19th c. Traces of both discourses are still present in works by authors of various ideological commitments and they are subject to a range of uses.

    The text analyses selected, recently published, Polish reportage-travelogue prose on travels to Russia and Germany. It identifies their constitutive features, among others: the interpretive character of the message, narration the present from the perspective of the past, actualisation and redefinition of image stereotypes of the Russian and German. It poses a thesis that the therapeutic and compensating quality of these works locates them within enunciations operating post-dependence discourse.
