Opis:
Accurate determination of material parameters, such as carrier lifetimes and defect activation energy, is a significant problem in the technology of infrared detectors. Among many different techniques, using the time resolved photoluminescence spectroscopy allows to determine the narrow energy gap materials, as well as their time dynamics. In this technique, it is possible to observe time dynamics of all processes in the measured sample as in a streak camera. In this article, the signal processing for the above technique for Hg1-xCdxTe with a composition x of about 0.3 which plays an extremely important role in the mid-infrared is presented. Machine learning algorithms based on the independent components analysis were used to determine components of the analyzed data series. Two different filtering techniques were investigated. In the article, it is shown how to reduce noise using the independent components analysis and what are the advantages, as well as disadvantages, of selected methods of the independent components analysis filtering. The proposed method might allow to distinguish, based on the analysis of photoluminescence spectra, the location of typical defect levels in HgCdTe described in the literature.

In situ detection and dynamics of laser-induced melting in different semiconductor crystals (CdTe, CdHgTe, GaAs, InSb and SiC) were performed by the time-resolved reflectivity (TRR). The samples were subjected to irradiation with 20 ns pulses of KrF excimer or ruby laser with energy density varied in a wide range. The surface morphology of the crystals was monitored using optical microscopy and time dependences of the temperature of the crystal surface as a function of laser pulse energy density was also calculated. The melting and ablation threshold values were determined and specific features of the laser-induced phase transitions in the surface region of the semiconductors were analyzed.

Opis:
The escalating maritime transport as well as offshore crude oil exploitation and pipeline transportation leads to the increase of feasibility of the discharge of petroleum substances to the sea environment events. Therefore, it is necessary to rapidly detect of oil pollution to minimize the extent of contamination in the seawater. The aim of this study is to discuss the assumptions of the optical methods using for detection of oil pollution in the seawater. We consider the different approaches of oil-in-water detection using spectral active and passive techniques with emphasis on fluorescence techniques. The intensive development of scientific apparatus and methods in light spectroscopy leads to build various airborne or underwater specialized devices (UV-, IR-scanners, fluorosensors), which allows to detect oil pollution in relatively large areas of the sea. The possibility of measurements of oil pollution in the seawater is particularly important for monitoring, especially in very difficult weather conditions and highly waved sea surface. Such possibilities should be given by devices for in-situ measurements based on time-resolved fluorescence. Such measurements allow obtaining the significant information about presence of oil in really short time. As we show in this study, the wide-range development of fluorescence techniques opens the diagnostic opportunity not only for detection of the oil-in-water content but also for identification the type of oil directly in seawater or even determination of the source of oil pollution.

Opis:
The present development of a basic science, including physics of stimulated emission of light, opens up new diagnostic possibilities in relation to the quality of oils, including marine fuels and lubricants. In complicated chemical composition of oils both light absorbing compounds and compounds that emit light (fluorescent) are included. This causes the formation of complex structures in the spectral plots of fluorescence intensity as a function of wavelength of light exciting fluorescence and as a function of the wavelength of light emitted. Since the fluorescence excitation occurs in a short time of its disappearance. The shape of the fluorescence decay function depends on the chemical composition of oil, therefore, includes a mention of its kind, quality, level of degradation, and the like. In this paper exemplary charts of the intensity decay curves in different parts of the fluorescence spectra are shown (for light fuel). Presented charts are obtained using the experimental device constructed in Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences (Germany) and are the attempt to use ability of oil substance to manifest its composition in the form of the fluorescence decay curve. An analysis of the chart shows that decay of fluorescence in this case is described by biexponential curve, therefore a kind of oil can be represented by two numerical values - two decay time constants. Operational use of this method will be possible only after a comparative study of different types and quality of oil in relation to the shape of the fluorescence decay curves.

Opis:
In this work, InAs/InGaAlAs/InP quantum dashes have been investigated in terms of their optical, kinetic, and excitonic properties with respect to their application within the 1300± 40 nm spectral range, i.e. the O-band of the telecommunication technologies. We focused on the basic excitonic complexes such as neutral exciton, biexciton, and charged exciton, which have been identified by means of photoluminescence measurements. Emission and carriers' dynamics have been analyzed using rate equation model and fitting the experimental data obtained for both continuous-wave and pulsed excitation regimes. There has been found a significant impact of the charge carrier imbalance in the system and electron capturing rate on the dynamics of the optical and electronic transitions, which results in a high occupation of the negatively charged trion state. Autocorrelation measurements show clear antibunching of trion emission for non-resonant excitation which indicates a potential of such kind of emitters as single photon sources for short-range quantum communication schemes.

Opis:
Modification of pulse radiolysis (PR) setup and construction of a new laser flash photolysis (LFP) setup at the Institute of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology (INCT) is described. Both techniques are dedicated to studying fast reactions in real time by direct observation of transients. Time resolution of the PR setup at INCT was ~11 ns, limited by the duration of the electron pulse. Implementation of a new spectrophotometric detection system resulted in a significant broadening of experimental spectral range with respect to the previous setup. Noticeable reduction of the noise-to-signal ratio was also achieved. The LFP system was built from scratch. Its time resolution was ~6 ns, limited by the duration of a laser pulse. LFP and PR were purposely designed to share the same hardware and software solutions. Therefore, components of the detection systems can be transferred between both setups, signifi cantly lowering the costs and shortening the construction/upgrading time. Opened architecture and improved experimental fl exibility of both techniques were accomplished by implementation of Ethernet transmission control protocol/Internet protocol (TCP/IP) communication core and newly designed software. This is one of the most important enhancements. As a result, new experimental modes are available for both techniques, improving the quality and reducing the time of data collections. In addition, both systems are characterized by relatively high redundancy. Currently, implementation of new equipment into the systems hardly ever requires programming. In contrast to the previous setup, daily adaptations of hardware to experimental requirements are possible and relatively easy to perform.

Opis:
Atomic force microscopy (AFM) is one of the most powerful diagnostic methods used in micro- and nanoscale imaging of the topography and various physical properties of the surface. As this method involves the scanning tip/sample interaction, it is possible to observe the response of the surface on periodically changing load causing by the scanning tip. By utilizing so called time-resolved tapping mode, we could perform the mapping of the surface's mechanical properties: stiffness, adhesion, energy dissipation and others. In this paper we present the idea of the NanoSwing imaging technique developed at Electrotechnical Institute, Division of Electrotechnology and Materials Science in Wrocław as well as the examples of the measurement results.
Zastosowanie trybu dynamicznego z analizą oscylacji skrętnych belki skanującej w domenie czasu, umożliwiło wykonywanie mapowania takich parametrów jak: sztywność, adhezja, rozpraszanie energii i inne. W niniejszej pracy zaprezentowano koncepcję działania trybu NanoSwing opracowanego we wrocławskim oddziale Instytutu Elektrotechniki. Przedstawiono także przykładowe wyniki pomiarów wykonanych z wykorzystaniem tego trybu.
