Opis:
The modern era of liturgical music in the Church in Italy has favored a situation in which a multiplicity of languages, styles and genres that probably characterize its uniqueness in the world scene coexist. We certainly cannot say that we live such a happy era from this point of view. After almost 60 years in which a false concept of liturgical creativity has been operating almost undisturbed, we are faced with an immense variety of situations within which – even in the presence of virtuous and significant experiences – a sort of generalized mediocrity is imposed which is almost all The cornerstones dictated by tradition and redefined by Vatican II. It is more than ever necessary to rediscover some fundamental concepts: the functionality of liturgical music; the music that wears the word; musical forms; thechoice of the repertoire; the need for training; The task of the liturgical music composer.

The paper looks into the turbulent history of the ancient town of Akrai/Acrae in a mountainous part of southeastern Sicily, encapsulated in the assemblage of finds from a domestic cistern, which was remodeled and adapted in the course of its use. The cistern is considered as an architectural feature against the background of the ancient town, and the assemblage recovered from it is exmined thoroughly category by category, giving insight into the life of the ancient inhabitants of this island in the Mediterranean.

There is an ongoing debate on the changes in the activity of the labour movement in Europe: whether strikes are still the dominant form of action or were they supplanted by demonstrations and civil activism. The question is urgent in countries such as Poland where the number of registered strikes is very low. We verify the hypothesis that the labour movement in Poland shifts from the labour rights to civil rights model of contention in five dimensions: the scale of protest, mobilizing structures, repertoire, claims, and addressees. To avoid pitfalls of relying on official strike data, we use protest event analysis to gather data on workers’ protest from the national press. The conclusion is that the official data on strikes does not reveal the full scope of protest but work stoppages remain the dominant form of action. Results question the reliance on the official strike data to measure labour movement activity.

Opis:
The pandemic of the new coronavirus and the introduction of coronavirus vaccines prompted the production of vaccines and vaccine discourses around the world. The same situation has been observable in Japan. The purpose of this study is to discuss what I call “the social phenomenon of vaccines” in Japan. The present article will describe the characteristics of the vaccine discourse and consider the relationship between the vaccine discourse and vaccine-induced sufferings, which refer to the experience of social damages and difficulties caused by vaccines. Firstly, I will review the research method of the previous studies of vaccination. It has been shown that both pro-vaccine and anti-vaccine existed from the beginning of the history of vaccination, and in that sense, the existence of both pro-vaccine and anti-vaccine can be considered as a part of “the social phenomenon of vaccines” from the beginning. Inspired by the Strong Program, I will explain a method which would enable me to describe both pro and anti-vaccine without a priori assumptions. One such method can be found in the repertoire analysis by Gilbert and Mulkey (1984), who analyzed controversies in scientific research. Following their method, I will explore how the vaccine discourse was developed in Japan. The vaccine discourse in Japan is found in three different types of literature, which discuss vaccine promotion, vaccine harms, and vaccine safety. Secondly, I will identify three kinds of repertoires: “componentist repertoire”, “manipulationist repertoire” and “psychologism repertoire”. I will then discuss the features of “the social phenomenon of vaccines” by examining the relationship among these repertoires and how these repertoires work. Finally, I will discuss how vaccine discourse is related to the discourse of vaccine-induced sufferings. In conclusion, vaccination, by its very nature, cannot be separated from the impossibility of direct experience of vaccination. Therefore, the more vaccine develops, the more vaccine discourse flourishes.

Opis:
The article describes cultural life in Kielce at the threshold of independence. The local theatre played a prominent role at that time, since it was the only professional scene on which the Regency Council’s manifest was read. After this event the institution had its name changed into the Polish Theatre. The directors in those days were struggling with financial and logistical problems, lack of permanent crew, and even the outbreak of typhus. The history of the theater is described in the context of provincial, poor and clerical town, in which the intelligentsia accounted for a small percentage of the population. The audience wanted some entertainment both from the theatre and the expanding world of the cinema. Therefore, the creators were trying to meet those expectations through productions based on comedy and operetta. The local amateur theatre was the only group involved in politics, staging several patriotic plays. The conclusions of the article are based on the materials published in ”Gazeta Kielecka”, a local newspaper of that time, and collections available in the branch of National Archive in Kielce (unfortunately, no documents have been preserved in Żeromski Theater), as well as the research done by regional historians. Year 1918 turned out to be just a glimpse in the long process of changing the mentality of local community. It was just the first step to rebuild its national identity.

Another point of discussion will be attaining a spirit of Romanticism rather than a literal reading of the score when dealing with non-French organs. You will need a copy of the Durand edition of 1883 for this discussion, and having measure numbers marked ahead of time will be helpful.

In the last 20 years the digital revolution has brought a number of changes in the methods of dissemination of cultural works, particularly in the distribution of audiovisual works. An integration of electronic devices and content brings new opportunities for the development of cultural activity. An important example illustrating the range of changes in the domain of cultural management is the Malopolska Digital Cinema Network. It was created in part with funds from MROP 2007–2013 and exemplifies the use of technological innovation as an indicator of cultural mobilization. This text is a case study of local digital cinema network and attempts to define the scope of the impact of the use of digital tools in cultural and viewing practices in the cities belonging to MSKC.

Opis:
The article aims to trace the dynamics of contention in austerity-driven Slovenia, explain why it ended, through the processes of demobilization, despite the protest movement’s initial successes, and verify the explanatory power of Charles Tilly and Sidney Tarrow’s theoretical framework of demobilization. The analysis applies the method of source analysis, conceptual qualitative content analysis, and the conceptual framework of contentious politics. In doing so, it addresses the research problems of the dynamics of contention in Slovenia and why the contention resulted in demobilization. The article argues that after mass mobilization an upward scale shift appeared. The shift moved the contention beyond its local origins in Maribor, touched on the interests and values of new subjects, and involved a shift of venue to sites where the demands might have been met by state institutions. The dynamics of contention was a cycle of active and passive contentious episodes. The movement identity shift and successful recognition of its claims influenced the performances and episode sequence. The processes of demobilization started when people stopped attending protests, organizing particular performances, and implementing innovations to modular performances instead. Demobilization occurred when most of the protesters became discouraged from protest through boredom and a desire to return to everyday routines.

This article explores the newly discovered account books of the Lviv Uniate Musical Chapel of the Bishop Leon Szeptycki. The main stay of this musical chapel was the architectural complex of the Cathedral of St George in Lviv. Today, two account books are stored in the department of old books and manuscripts of the Andrey Sheptytsky National Museum in Lviv in the archives of the Lviv bishops; they cover the years 1760–1779. In the first two parts of the article, the author investigates the issues of the founding of the musical chapel and its place of activity. In the third part, there is a list of musicians who were members of this chapel over the years. In addition to the names and surnames, their positions, years of employment, musical instruments which they played and details of their biography are indicated. In the next part, there is a list of pupils of the chapel. It appears that the total number of pupils ranged from 2 to 14. Adult musicians and pupils played various instruments: harpsichord (“klawicymbaly”), clavichord (“klawikort”), organ, violin, alto, viola da gamba (“kwartviola”), cello (“basetla”), oboe, bassoon, trumpet and horn; there were singers as well. In the fifth part, the author specifies in what way the Lviv Uniate musical chapel was financed. In the next part, both the church and the secular musical repertoire of the musical chapel are described. In this section, also information from the Warsaw periodicals are used. In the seventh part, the collaboration of the Uniate music chapel with other chapels and monastic orders, Jesuits, Dominicans and Conventual Franciscans is explored. In the last part, the author examines the information about the human settlements that are found on the pages of the account books.

Opis:
Zbiór rękopisów muzycznych kanoniczek regularnych we Wrocławiu (obecnie przechowywany w Gabinecie Zbiorów Muzycznych Biblioteki Uniwersyteckiej w Warszawie) to unikatowa w skali całego kraju kolekcja muzykaliów z przełomu XVII/XVIII wieku.
The collection of music manuscripts that once belonged to the Canonesses Regular of Wrocław (now part of the Music Collection of the University of Warsaw Library) is a set of more than 450 music sources, unique in Poland, coming from the late 17th and early 18th centuries. The sources bear the provenance marks of Chori S. Annae and Chori S. Jacobi. The repertoire contained in those sources testifies to the originality and very high standards of music traditions cultivated by the canonesses, but also to their convent’s wide contacts with numerous institutions of music culture in both Silesia and the neighbouring countries. Some of the music manuscripts confirm the Wrocław convent’s links to those monastic communities elsewhere in Europe which at that time were the main promoters of new trends and stylistic tendencies in music. Of special interest in this group are compositions derived from the Jesuit circles, which once formed the most dynamically expanding network for the transmission of music culture. They are works by such Jesuits as Georg Braun, Joannes Faber, Martin Kretzmer, Leopold Liebstein, and Carolus Pfeiffer (though the piece attributed to that last composer may in fact have been written by Francesco della Porta). The collection also includes unique copies of liturgical works by Nicolaus Frölich, who for more than 40 years served as organist of the Jesuit Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Kłodzko. The canonesses of Wrocław also collected anonymously transmitted works which demonstrate evident characteristics of music then popular in the Jesuit circles.

The article focuses on one of the trends in modern language education, i.e. the plurilingual approach towards language teaching, since one of the important components of IBA managers’ professional competence is their ability to function and communicate in a foreign language environment successfully. Modern high-grade professional training for IBA managers and principles of plurilingual education require research into the problem of the formation of IBA managers’ professional plurilingual competence, which presupposes extension of the linguistic repertoire of students. On the basis of a questionnaire survey it was identified that the plurilingual repertoire of the students qualifying in International Business Activities includes the Russian, Ukrainian, English, and German (or French) languages. Besides, specific features of professional plurilingual competence of IBA managers are also identified, which can be used in further research to elaborate effective methods for professional plurilingual competence formation.

Singing Church songs is an important part of Silesian citizens’ religious life. Spiritual leaders wanting to help people in practicing this form of piety have started publishing songbooks containing songs performed in the area discussed. In the beginnings of 20th century, father Ludwik Skowronek, priest of the parish Bogucice made a prayer book called „Droga do nieba”. With time, this collection has become the most popular prayer book of Upper Silesia. Nowadays it is used in Dioceses of Opole and Gliwice. Some time later, „Skarbiec” is being created by priests of Upper Silesia. It is still used in Archdiocese of Kraków. Both prayer books since their beginnings have had many forms and have been published many times. In contemporary collections we can see many similarities in repertoire and versions of songs, but also some number of differences. The songbooks differ in position of sections, sometimes in songs and versions of a particular song as well. In „Droga do nieba” more songs and verses of them have been included. We have focused on Christmas songs in this article. Examining them it has been stated that 39 songs are identical, whereas 14 differ more or less. 22 songs connected with Christmas can be found only in „Droga do nieba”, while 6 only in „Skarbiec”. The melodic and rhythmic anylisis has shown that 39 songs are the same in both songbooks. In 12 of them melodic differences have been found, while in 10 of them - rhythmic ones. By analisying Silesian songbooks we can see thier role and importance in practicing Silesian tradition of carolling as well as the whole Church repertoire.

A particular favourite amongst the numerous 19th century „manuals for organists” was the Handbuch für Organisten, which was published for the first time in 1871 by Leuckart in Leipzig. Its author was Bernhard Kothe, a famous Silesian organist, conductor, composer, teacher, publicist, editor and an organiser of musical life. The Handbuch is a handy volume destined mainly for liturgical use. The collection comprises 346 smaller pieces of organ music, 46 modulation samples as well as an additional compilation of 18 easy preludes in the most frequently used ranges. The works are sorted in order of pitch (24 ranges) and, within the different ranges, in order of size. The shortest pieces were meant to be played as interludes between the stanzas of a song, while the longer pieces were meant to be performed as preludes or postludes. The collection was compiled from the works of various composers. The highest number of compositions – almost 50 of them - are the work of Kothe himself. In 1879 the Handbuch was continued in a second and third volume which aimed to address an audience of more experienced and better trained organists.
