The paper is focused on assessing the impact of personality characteristics on the level of identified environmental awareness factors in Slovakia. On a theoretical basis, the work examines 3 factors of environmental awareness: cognitive, emotional and behavioural factors. Personality characteristics were studied from the point of view of the Big-Five trait taxonomy. Primary data were obtained through questionnaires. The object of the research are the residents of Slovakia aged 18 and above with Slovak nationality. The research sample consisted of 1108 respondents. In the analysis of the research results, the used factor model proved to be significant, and personality characteristics proved to be a statistically significant predictor of the level of identified environmental awareness factors. According to the results of the model, Conscientiousness and Openness influenced all 3 factors of environmental awareness, and other personality traits influenced environmental awareness only within some factors. Thus, this study extends the empirical research focused on factors affecting environmental awareness in the understudied region of Central and Eastern Europe, and the achieved results may be the basis for environmental awareness management measures in practice.
Artykuł koncentruje się na ocenie wpływu cech osobowości na poziom zidentyfikowanych czynników świadomości ekologicznej na Słowacji. Na gruncie teoretycznym w pracy zbadano 3 czynniki świadomości środowiskowej: czynniki poznawcze, emocjonalne i behawioralne. Cechy osobowości badano z punktu widzenia taksonomii cech Wielkiej Piątki. Dane pierwotne uzyskano za pomocą kwestionariuszy. Obiektem badań są mieszkańcy Słowacji w wieku 18 lat i więcej, posiadający narodowość słowacką. Próba badawcza liczyła 1108 respondentów. W analizie wyników badań zastosowany model czynnikowy okazał się istotny, a cechy osobowości okazały się istotnym statystycznie predyktorem poziomu zidentyfikowanych czynników świadomości środowiskowej. Zgodnie z wynikami modelu Sumienność i Otwartość wpływały na wszystkie 3 czynniki świadomości ekologicznej, a pozostałe cechy osobowości wpływały na świadomość ekologiczną tylko w zakresie niektórych czynników. Tym samym niniejsze opracowanie jest rozszerzeniem badań empirycznych skoncentrowanych na czynnikach wpływających na świadomość ekologiczną w niedostatecznie zbadanym regionie Europy Środkowo-Wschodniej, a uzyskane wyniki mogą być podstawą do podejmowania działań w zakresie zarządzania świadomością ekologiczną w praktyce.

Статья посвящена исследованию социально-психологической адаптации детей с ограниченными возможностями здоровья. Обсуждаются результаты не только состояние адаптации и дезадаптации в условиях учебного заведения, но и особенности представления о себе, о способах реагирования в критических ситуациях, побуждающих студентов к переоценке себя и своих возможностей. Проанализирована специфика социально-психологической адаптации и ресурсов личности учащихся колледжа в зависимости от курса обучения – с первого до четвертого.
The article is devoted to the study of socio-psychological adaptation of children with disabilities. Results are discussed not only the state of adaptation and disadaptation in the conditions of educational institutions, but also the characteristics of beliefs about themselves, about ways of reacting in critical situations, encouraging students to reassess themselves and their possibilities. Analyzed the specificity of socio-psychological adaptation and resources of the individual College students depending on the course – from the first to the fourth.

The paper discusses emotional intelligence as a factor of effective teaching. Emotional intelligence, in broad interpretation, is defined as the ability to differentiate between posi-tive and negative emotions, and the ability to change one’s emotional condition from a poor to a better one. Internal and external components are inherent in the emotional com-ponent, and they can provide stress protecting and adaptive functions of this integral con-cept. Also it highlights psychological characteristics of teachers working with children with developmental disorders. Psychological requirements for specialists who work with indi-viduals with special educational needs include psychological willingness of a personality for this work. This willingness can be considered as an integrated quality of a personality including a system of motivation, knowledge, skills, certain experience, personal qualities that ensure successful activity.

The aim of this article is to present a portrait of the so-called good foreign language teacher, which has been created on the basis of the comments made by about 850 Polish students of modern languages, and students representing various types of schools (from primary schools, through middle schools, to secondary schools). In this picture, teacher personality traits, the majority of which are regarded as values not only in professional life (e.g. in the teaching profession), but also in personal life, have ranked the highest. Personality traits have overshadowed the other two groups of qualities which foreign language teachers are also equipped with, i.e. didactic and glottodidactic ones. The presentation of the research results has been preceded by a theoretical part where teacher personality and its role in (language) education have been briefly discussed.

This research has further characterized the dimensions of the Five Factor Model (Big Five) in the context of entrepreneurship, based on several studies. Our survey shows that the analysed psychological skills in management, which are important for success in business, are perceived as important in two samples (entrepreneurs and managers in one group and students in second group). Research confirms the assumptions that entrepreneurs/managers and students are aware of the qualitative dimension of management psychological skills important for business. The striking fact was that the psychological variable respect of ethics was ranked in two study groups. The finding confirms the fact that while ethical issues are an imperative of our times, for many businessmen ethics is in last place. The top of the list of students' responses were in skills such as confidence, perseverance and the ability to persuade. Endurance, stress resistance and self-confidence were also identified as priorities in the group of entrepreneurs and managers. From the data, it can be seen that the skills required for business, identified in both study groups as important should be developed and improved through business education.
Niniejsze badania scharakteryzowały wymiary Pięcioczynnikowego Modelu Osobowości (Big Five) w kontekście przedsiębiorczości, na podstawie kilku badań. Przedstawione badanie pokazuje, że badane umiejętności psychologiczne w zarządzaniu, które są ważne dla sukcesu w biznesie, postrzegane są jako ważne przeprowadzone zostały w dwóch próbach (przedsiębiorców i menedżerów w jednej grupie i studentów w grupie drugiej). Badania potwierdziły założenia, że przedsiębiorcy/menedżerowie i studenci są świadomi jakościowego wymiaru zarządzania umiejętnościami psychologicznymi ważnymi dla biznesu. Wniosek ten potwierdza fakt, że, podczas, gdy kwestie etyczne są koniecznością naszych czasów, dla wielu przedsiębiorców etyka jest na ostatnim miejscu. Na czołowym miejscu odpowiedzi studentów znalazły się elementy: jak zaufanie, wytrwałość oraz zdolność przekonywania. Wytrzymałość, odporność na stres i pewność siebie zidentyfikowano jako priorytety w grupie przedsiębiorców i menedżerów. Na podstawie danych można zauważyć, że umiejętności wymagane dla biznesu, zidentyfikowane w obu badanych grupach jako ważne, powinny być rozwijane i ulepszane poprzez edukację biznesową.

The aim of this article is to present the profile of a ‘good’ foreign language teacher in junior high schools based on the results of the study conducted among pupils of selected junior high schools in two voivodeships of Poland, namely Podkarpackie Voivodeship and Wielkopolska Voivodeship. This study is part of a larger research project covering all types of schools in Poland. Apart from the above-mentioned junior high schools, primary schools, secondary schools as well as universities (neophilological degree courses, in particular those with teaching specialisation) are also included in this study.

wyjaśniania relacji na linii przełożony – podwładny na przestrzeni lat sukcesywnie odchodziły od tezy, iż właściwości menedżera stanowią jedyny czynnik determinujący podejmowane przez niego style zarządzania ludźmi. Współcześnie stosunkowo dużą popularnością cieszą się tzw. sytuacyjne teorie kierowania, uwzględniające, poza zmiennymi podmiotowymi menedżera, inne czynniki związane na przykład z podwładnymi, organizacją czy rodzajem zadania. Prezentowane badanie miało na celu zweryfikowanie, w jakim zakresie zmienne wynikające z właściwości menedżera mogą stanowić istotne predyktory podejmowanych stylów kierowania i zarządzania podwładnymi. Objęło ono łącznie 128 menedżerów obojga płci średniego i wyższego szczebla zarządzania. Wyniki przeprowadzonych badań pokazały, iż zmienne osobowościowe i kompetencyjne odgrywają istotną rolę w podejmowaniu stylów kierowania.
Theories that provide the basis for creating classifications of management styles, as well as for explaining superior–subordinate relations have, over successive years, abandoned the view that a manager’s properties are the only factor determining the management style that the manager will apply in managing people. Currently, what are known as situational management theories are enjoying relative popularity. In addition to subjective variables relating to the manager, they also take into account other factors, such as those associated with subordinates, the organization, and the type of task. The presented study is aimed at verifying the degree to which variables stemming from a manager’s properties might serve as essential predictors of management and employee control styles. The study encompassed a total of 128 managers of both sexes, both middle and upper management. Research findings demonstrate that personality and competence variables play a significant role in choice of management style.

Opis:
The trend of inclusive education in Belarus inspired a series of studies on the possibilities of social integration of pupils with special educational needs. The purpose of the following article is to describe the activities implementing humanistic holistic approach, which aims at social activation of pupils with hearing loss. The participants of the project were pupils from Special School with Hard of Hearing Student's Dormitory No 13 in Minsk. The undertaken actions were aimed at changing the attitudes of passive consumers, socially immature, apathetic, with no initiative men into active participants in the social life. For this reason, it was essential to develop in a young person's personality characteristics such as: inner freedom and independence, self-discipline, self-control, self-management, and the ability of self-reflection. The project was designed to achieve these goals through a specially planned series of cultural and entertainment events participated in by the deaf, their hearing friends, parents, teachers, and representatives of the state and non-governmental organizations. This active model of education consisted of five, associated with each other, phases: diagnostic, implementing special cultural and sport actions, and finally those evaluating and modifying ones. The model assumed 2 basic directions of pupils' development: education in communication and action, as well as cooperation between hearing impaired students with hearing children and adults. Some competitions, festivals, meetings, intellectual games were organized using different technologies and interactive methods, e.g.: volunteering. Analysis of the above-mentioned actions shows that preparing pupils with hearing loss to social integration is a process requiring proper emotional contact and effective communication. Only then do different actions help not only to overcome passivity, lack of self-confidence, but also to arouse interests and develop creativity. Positive effects of the implemented project can be seen, since the graduates of this experimental school went on to study at numerous Belarusian universities.
Nurt edukacji włączającej na Białorusi zainspirował serię badań nad możliwościami integracji społecznej uczniów ze specjalnymi potrzebami edukacyjnymi. Celem artykułu jest opis działań wdrażających humanistyczną koncepcję holistyczną, mającą na celu zaktywizowanie społeczne uczniów z uszkodzeniami słuchu. W projekcie wzięli udział uczniowie Szkoły Specjalnej z internatem dla Dzieci Niedosłyszących nr 13 w Mińsku. Podjęte działania miały przekształcać postawy biernych konsumentów, niedojrzałych społecznie, apatycznych, bez inicjatywy – w twórczych, aktywnych uczestników życia społecznego. W tym celu należało wykształcić w młodym człowieku takie cechy osobowości, jak: wewnętrzna wolność i niezależność, samodyscyplina, samokontrola, samorządność, zdolność do refleksji. W projekcie zaplanowano osiągnięcie owych celów poprzez odpowiednio zaplanowany szereg imprez kulturalno-rozrywkowych, w których uczestniczyli niesłyszący, ich słyszący koledzy, rodzice, nauczyciele oraz przedstawiciele organizacji państwowych i pozarządowych. Ten aktywny model edukacji składał się z pięciu powiązanych ze sobą etapów: diagnostycznych, wdrażających konkretne działania kulturalne i sportowe oraz ewaluacyjnych i modyfikujących. Model zakładał dwa podstawowe kierunki rozwoju uczniów: kształcenie w komunikacji i w działaniu oraz współpraca uczniów z uszkodzeniami słuchu ze słyszącymi dziećmi i dorosłymi. Organizowano konkursy, festiwale, wystawy, spotkania, gry i zabawy intelektualne, wykorzystując różne technologie informatyczne oraz metody interaktywne, np. wolontariat. Analiza powyższych działań pokazuje, że przygotowanie uczniów z uszkodzeniami słuchu do integracji społecznej to proces, którego podstawą jest dobry kontakt emocjonalny i skuteczna komunikacja. Dopiero wtedy różne działania pomagają przezwyciężyć bierność, brak wiary we własne siły, rozbudzić zainteresowania, rozwijać kreatywność. Pozytywne efekty wdrożonego projektu są widoczne, gdyż absolwenci tej eksperymentalnej szkoły podjęli studia na wielu białoruskich uczelniach wyższych.

Profile of a ‘good’ foreign language teacher in a high school – research report The aim of this article is to present the profile of a ‘good’ foreign language teacher in high schools based on the results of the study conducted among pupils of selected high schools in two voivodeships of Poland, namely Podkarpackie Voivodeship and Wielkopolska Voivodeship. This study is part of a larger research project covering all types of schools in Poland. Apart from the above-mentioned junior high schools, primary schools, secondary schools as well as universities (neophilological degree courses, in particular those with teaching specialisation) are also included in this study.

Opis:
The article attempts to explain the scientific and social phenomenon that was constituted by the figure of Wacław Nałkowski. With comprehensive knowledge concerning his life, the author undertook the characterization of his personality with the use of the special psychological method of transactional analysis. It is a method developed by American psychiatrist Eric Berne during 1960s. It explains the way people think and behave, offering many tools to understand human functioning, social, spiritual and intellectual development, and person’s inherent creative potential. The analysis proved to be helpful to define these characteristic sand attitudes of Nałkowski that are desirable in today’s teachers and researchers.

The study described in the present paper aimed to account for all the three dimensions of learners’ strategic self-regulation, i.e. cognitive, affective, and sociocultural-interactive language learning strategies (LLS) (Oxford 2011), and attempted to explore their relationships with learners’ personality and other individual variables, such as gender, type of university and area of studies, or the level of proficiency in English. The participants of the study, who formed a representative sample of BA/BS students of AMU and WSB University (722 students in total), completed two questionnaires, a Polish adaptation of SILL ver. 7.0 (Oxford 1990), and the adaptation of NEO-FFI recommended by the Polish Association of Psychology (Zawadzki et al. 2010) for research. The goodness criteria for psychometric research tools (Hornowska 2007) were analysed for both questionnaires. The obtained results confirm the role of most of the above-mentioned individual characteristics in strategy choice, validate the importance of learners’ personality in language learning, and provide evidence of the significance of openness to experience in learning a foreign language.
