The aim of the article is a reconstruction of a linguistic and cultural fragment of the stereotypical views of Poles - their attitude to education and schooling. The analysis uses research tools developed as part of Polish ethno-linguistic research. The corpus of the work is language data collected in a questionnaire survey in which 140 respondents took part (70 from Poland and 70 from Slovenia). The analysis of statements reflecting a different, because Polish or Slovenian, perspective reveals some discrepancies. Three basic subcategories of Poles’ attitudes towards education and schooling were singled out and described in detail: 1) positive, 2) negative, 3) other. A vast majority of the excerpts contribute to the model of positive perception of Polish education and schooling.

The questions of protecting native African languages and cultures as the main components of ethnocultural identity in Sub-Saharan Africa are dealt with. Language policies in relation to the languages of former metropolises depending on the language of state governance are compared. The reasons and causes of failures connected with attempts by newly independent African regimes to replace European languages in the main spheres of state and public life with native African languages are considered. The role of education in maintaining and developing local languages and cultures is shown.

The aim of the study is to present attributive adjectival collocations, categorizing the concept ”love” in contemporary Russian linguistic and cultural space. On the basis of semantic analysis of 130 excerpted exemplary collocations it must be stated that the realization of the concept under discussion within the analyzed language units is the result of crossing of the concept „love” with the concepts „space”, „time” and „values”, which have their semantic realization in the collocations under study. It should be emphasized that the analysis of semantics of specified collocations would not be possible without paying attention to a human being - his emotional and spiritual world, system of standards and values, as well as the feeling of love. That is why an anthropocentric paradigm has been taken into consideration in the description of the excerpted linguistic material.

Przemyśl to miasto, które od zarania dziejów było grodem granicznym między Królestwem Polskim a Rusią Kijowską. Na tym terenie przez stulecia ścierały się wpływy różnych języków, wyznań, narodowości, a liczne ślady tych interferencji możemy obserwować w toponimii regionu. Celem artykułu jest próba odpowiedzi na pytanie, na ile skomplikowane stosunki językowo-narodowo-religijne znalazły odzwierciedlenie we współczesnym i dawnym nazewnictwie miejskim, które jest młodsze i bardziej zmienne niż nazewnictwo miejscowe. Analizowano wpływ lokalizacji grodu na nazewnictwo, badano odbicie w urbanonimach stosunków narodowościowych (pogranicze etniczne) i religijnych (wielowyznaniowość mieszkańców miasta), a także interferencje językowe. Przeprowadzona analiza pokazała, że skomplikowana przeszłość regionu ma niewielki wpływ na teraźniejszość nazewniczą, ale nie jest bez znaczenia. Wpływy języka i kultury mniejszości etniczno-wyznaniowych najmocniej zaznaczają się w sferze religii, mniej wyraźnie są natomiast w nazwach lokalizujących, kulturowych i pamiątkowych.
Przemyśl used to be a fortified border town between the Kingdom of Poland and Kievan Rus. The influence of various languages, religions or nationalities existed in that area for centuries, and the numerous traces of such interference can be observed in the toponymy of the region. The aim of this article is to attempt to answer the question to what degree the complex linguistic and national and religious relations have been reflected in both contemporary and old urban names, which are younger and more changeable than settlement names. The impact of the location of a fortified town was analyzed, as well as the reflection of national (the ethnic border) and religious (the multiconfessionalism of city dwellers) relationships in urbanonyms and linguistic interference. The conducted analysis has shown that the complicated past of the region has had only a slight impact on the contemporary onomastics, but cannot be ignored. The influence of the language and culture of ethnic and religious minorities on the urbanonyms is mostly noticeable in the names motivated by religion, and less so in localizing, cultural or commemorative names.

Our study is based on the almost generally accepted idea that phraseology represents a “language of culture” which retains numerous elements that define the identity and mentality of a community (see Telija et.al.). Starting from research dedicated to phraseology (Coseriu, Cowie), we emphasize the importance of comparative studies (in this case, Romanian-Polish) in phraseology and for the development of linguistic and cultural skills of non-native Romanian speakers, in the teaching of Romanian literature. Based on studies and books dedicated to phraseological expressions in the Romanian and Polish languages and on lexicographic works, we are presenting: 1. Romanian and Polish phraseology with similar structure and similar overall meaning; 2. Romanian and Polish phraseology with similar structure, but different meaning; 3. pseudo-equivalent Romanian-Polish phraseology; 4. Romanian-Polish phraseology with the same overall meaning, but functioning on different stylistic registers of the two languages.

The purpose of the study is to show narrative (narration) as a category that combines individual elements of knowledge, expressed through language, and, thus, ensures the cohesion of the linguistic and cultural picture of the world. In the light of this concept, the linguistic-cultural picture of the world is understood as a dynamic, multi-layered narrative depending on the accepted points of view, intentions, approaches and methods of conceptualization, categorization and axiologization of reality adopted in this culture. This article deals with the narrative of human life, which creates the expressions in Polish and Russian that contain verbs of movement. The analysis of the chosen phrases allows us to determine how similar life experiences are perceived in both languages, as well as to what extent the cultural conditions and the genetic proximity of both languages have an influence on similarities in the image of human existence.

This paper brings together two phenomena not commonly regarded as closely connected: linguistic patterns in ancient Biblical transmission, and Jewish-Christian relations as manifest in Polish-Israeli dynamics. After summarizing the nature of Jewish-Greek language in the Septuagint (LXX) and related texts, the discussion proceeds to an explanation of the “bifurcation of meaning” that arose between Jewish and Christian interpreters who read the same words. This exegetical and translational reality exerted a strong real-world effect on Jewish-Christian interaction throughout history. Medieval and modern Polish-Jewish and Polish-Israeli relations continue to bear the stamp of such ancient linguistic and theological reconfigurations. Today a renaissance of Jewish cultural life in Poland has energized Christians as well as Jews, opening up new possibilities for collaboration and mutual understanding. At the same time, political tensions related to conflicting versions of the past—particularly the Holocaust and its memory—have laid bare fundamental contradictions between and within Israeli and Polish self-perceptions. The paper argues that study of Biblical languages and early Judeo-Christian traditions is of great relevance for the current situation and for prospective future progress in fellow feeling and inter-national understanding.

The study investigates the influence of living and working abroad on the identities of researchers and native speaker teachers. Following Block (2009), Hall (2012) and Pavlenko and Blackledge (2004), identity is assumed here to be dynamic and multiple, where the different identities of a person can be more or less relevant in a given context (Hall, 2012, p. 33). Moreover, identities at the time of globalisation tend to be hybrid (Marotta, 2011) and, in the case of migration, they can be bicultural (Comănaru, Noels & Dewaele, 2017), but as Comănaru et al. (2017, p. 539) observe, each bicultural person’s identity is different, depending on his or her life history, language proficiency, psychological traits, etc. Simultaneously, there is  evidence that multilingualism increases cognitive empathy (Dewaele & Wei, 2012) and makes people more open-minded (Wlosowicz, 2019), so it could be assumed that the participants would recognise their hybrid identities as an enrichment rather than a threat to their native identities, even though identification with their native languages and cultures, with their families, etc. would remain an important part of their identity. The research tool used in the present study was a questionnaire completed by forty native speaker teachers and researchers living abroad. As the results show, the participants’ identities are indeed highly complex, hybrid and influenced by different factors, however, the native language and the family remain very important components of identity, unlike, for example, one’s profession. Still, they also admitted that foreign language knowledge enriched them culturally, intellectually and emotionally.   　   　   　  　 
Der Untersuchungsgegenstand ist der Einfluss des Lebens und Arbeitens im Ausland auf die Identität von wissenschaftlichen Mitarbeitern und Lehrkräften – Muttersprachlern. In Anlehnung an Block (2009), Hall (2012) sowie Pavlenko und Blackledge (2004) wird angenommen, dass die Identität dynamisch und vielfältig ist, wobei unterschiedliche Identitäten derselben Person mehr oder weniger relevant in einem bestimmten Kontext sein können (Hall, 2012, S. 33). Darüber hinaus können Identitäten in Zeiten der Globalisierung hybrid (Marotta, 2011) und im Fall der Migration bikulturell sein (Comănaru, Noels & Dewaele, 2017). Die Identität jeder bikulturellen Person variiert allerdings, wie Comănaru et al. (2017, S. 539) betonen, in Abhängigkeit von ihrer Lebensgeschichte, ihren Sprachkenntnissen, ihren psychologischen Merkmalen usw. Außerdem gibt es Hinweise darauf, dass die Mehrsprachigkeit die kognitive Empathie (Dewaele & Li, 2012) und die Aufgeschlossenheit des Geistes erhöht (Włosowicz, 2019), so dass man davon ausgehen kann, dass die Probanden ihre hybriden Identitäten eher als Bereicherung und nicht als Bedrohung für ihre einheimischen Identitäten betrachten, obwohl die Identifikation mit ihrer Muttersprache und Kultur, mit ihrer Familie usw. ein wichtiger Teil ihrer Identität bleibt. Das Forschungsinstrument war ein Fragebogen, der von vierzig wissenschaftlichen Mitarbeitern und Lehrkräften – im Ausland lebenden Muttersprachlern – ausgefüllt wurde. Wie die Forschungsergebnisse beweisen, sind die Identitäten der Befragten in der Tat sehr komplex, hybrid und werden durch viele Faktoren beeinflusst. Muttersprache und Familie bleiben jedoch, z.B. im Gegensatz zum Beruf, sehr wichtige Komponenten der Identität. Die Probanden gaben auch zu, dass die Fremdsprachenkenntnisse sie kulturell, intellektuell und emotional bereichert hatten.

Aim. The aim of the article is to reveal gender realisation peculiarities in English and German advertising texts. The concept of the research work is focused on the idea that representatives of different languages and cultures make unique world environment. The work proves the concept validity of the unique language nature in the distinctive idea of its cognitive base formed by an ethnic group. Methods. The concepts of universality and uniqueness of the linguistic and cultural features of gender perception are revealed using the methods of analysis and generalisation. Results. The result of the research work is in the necessity for advertising texts to have special gender language markers which are the kind of signal influencing the conscience of men and women while making purchases. The authors stress that social characteristics of men and women, such as age, social or family status expressed in the form of various degrees of comparison of adjectives are used mainly in English magazines; while German advertising texts put the use of adjectives and articles on the first place. Advertising for women have the set of a special expressive and emotional language tools complex while for men the use of vocabulary stressing the main type of activity of a man - energy is of the top priority. Conclusion. The research work presents cognitive value in theory and practical recommendations to gender linguistics specialising in advertising texts structure illustrating peculiar features of men and women as consumers being influenced by language, cultural, psychological characteristics.

The article reviews specific features of the Georgian linguistic world image shaped during the long period of its existence. The analysis covers the cultural concepts and language markers that reflect the national characteristics. Being a special kind of cross-cultural communication, translation is a process of overcoming the linguistic and cultural barriers, and includes transcoding of language code as well as the cultural one. On the one hand, it uncovers the discrepancies between the key concepts in different cultures, and on the other hand, it demonstrates existence of the similar language markers of the ‘global cultural space’ that is being formed.

The paper, being based on the subject matter designed for the receiver who is between six and ten years old, attempts to reconstruct the linguistic and cultural picture of the capital cities in Poland. The picture is recorded in the common sense as the national and cultural inheritance and popularised in the magazine entitled “Kumpel”. The analysis has been based on the texts (mini-reportages) describing three capitals and identified with them characters, events and monuments. The paper subsequently follows the composition of the chronological political and administrative changes: Gniezno, Kraków, Warszawa, and discusses etymological inquiries and cultural and linguistic connotations related to the events in the past, rarely the modern ones, which are presented to Polish small child by an editorial staff. History described in the magazine belongs to the standardised set of news and resources, which should be learned at the certain stage of development by every member of cultural community.

The article entitled Exploration with sight, hearing, and smell in the linguistic picture of people and animals – on the basis of texts from “Kumpel” magazine concerns the manner of describing three dominating senses in the world of fauna such as sight, hearing and smell. The names of these senses determine also the structure of analysis. The senses of taste and touch were not included in the description of behaviour and animals’ predispositions probably due to the anthropocentric perspective. These senses, which can be assumed, have not been examined so much as to be presented in the texts for the general public related to fauna and addressed to the receiver at the age between 7 and 10.

Opis:
The paper describes the Soviet reality on the material of the texts of anecdotes. The author presents the thematic diversity of situational contexts in anecdotes as well as some specific lexical, grammatical and stylistic aspects of anecdote as the characteristic features of the epoch. Cross-cultural parallels shown in the article emphasize the specific aspects of Russian mentality of that time.
В статье представлено на материале анекдота как вида текста описание советской действительности. Очерчивается тематическая разнородность ситуативных контекстов в анекдоте, а также прослеживается специфика лексического, грамматического и стилистического маркеров анекдота как характерных показателей эпохи. Используемые в разработке межкультурные параллели позволяют еще более оттенить и подчеркнуть специфику русской ментальности той поры.
