The conditions for ecological safety and economic growth of Ukrainian agrarian complex are analyzed, as well as the factors effecting on present-day state of agrarian sector are considered and ecological components in a system of Ukrainian agriculture are assessed. Effects of state regulation on ecological and economic development of domestic agrarian sector are characterized. Perspective ways to help solve strategic agrarian tasks include involvement of organizational and economic levers to be the mechanisms for uniform development of various sub-sectors of agrarian economy; introduction of modern integrative logistic-type agrarian associations; betterment of agricultural products’ sales conditions; expansion of sales network on the basis of agrarian market’s improved infrastructure, etc; indisputable support of innovative technologies in the process of production; consideration of ecological and economic factors in conditions of increased use of renewable resources; re-utilization of wastes of agricultural production.
W artykule przeanalizowano warunki bezpieczeństwa ekologicznego i wzrostu gospodarczego sektora agrarnego na Ukrainie. Uwzględniono także czynniki wpływające na jego obecny stan. Autorzy dokonali oceny wpływu regulacji państwowych na rozwój krajowego sektora rolnego. W badaniu wzięto pod uwagę różne sposoby realizacji strategicznych zadań, obejmujące zastosowanie dźwigni organizacyjnych i ekonomicznych jako mechanizmów rozwoju podsektorów gospodarki rolnej. Podkreślono wagę takich rozwiązań jak: wprowadzenie nowoczesnych integracyjnych stowarzyszeń agrarnych typu logistycznego, poprawa warunków sprzedaży produktów rolnych, rozbudowa sieci sprzedaży w oparciu o ulepszoną infrastrukturę rynku rolnego. Ogromne znaczenie dla rozwoju rolnictwa na terenie Ukrainy mogą mieć: wsparcie innowacyjnych technologii w procesie produkcji, uwzględnienie czynników ekologicznych i ekonomicznych w kontekście zwiększonego wykorzystania zasobów odnawialnych czy ponowne wykorzystanie odpadów z produkcji rolnej.

Opis:
Human ecology is a science of mutual relations between human population and natural habitat. It uses complex approach to research many aspects of human life, especially human dynamic relations with the closest environment: family, home, nature and local community, and creating healthy environment for everyday life. There is a new challenge for pedagogy, i.e. forming human ecological awareness defined as knowledge of environment. There is also an issue of competencies and active practices for environmental protection. Ecological pedagogy, in its assumptions, does not support the idea of anthropocentrism conceived as human being’s dominance over nature; its idea is education for coexistence and human protection of nature in order to maintain it for next generations and achieve sustainable development. The aim of this article is to draw attention to the level of ecological awareness of the society, including teachers, as well as specific features of education for sustainable development as social practices.
Wzajemne oddziaływanie organizmów na siebie i środowisko przyrodnicze jest domeną badań ekologii. Dbałość o środowisko jest obowiązkiem każdego człowieka, tak jak troska o zdrowie, dom, własną rodzinę i innych ludzi. W życiu społecznym jednak nie zawsze tak się dzieje, a przyczyny tego są bardzo różnorodne. Przed pedagogiką stoi poważne wyzwanie prowadzenia badań świadomości ekologicznej obywateli oraz edukacja na rzecz zrównoważonego rozwoju (ZR). Zagadnienie to znalazło miejsce w Konstytucji RP, w aktach prawnych oraz w europejskich strategiach ZR. Artykuł przedstawia historię procesu ZR oraz analizę badań świadomości ekologicznej nauczycieli przeprowadzonych przed i po zakończeniu Dekady Edukacji dla ZR ogłoszonej przez ONZ na lata 2005–2014. Wyniki badań wskazują na potrzebę prowadzenia permanentnej edukacji na rzecz ZR nie tylko wśród nauczycieli, ale i całego społeczeństwa. Autorka artykułu jest biologiem i pedagogiem, od wielu lat zajmuje się prowadzeniem edukacji ekologicznej nauczycieli i studentów.

One of the most important problems of the present day is the safety of the existence of a human being and his or her cultural, civilizational and environmental existence. The idea about what should be done in order to guarantee the safe existence of species is the reason for the discussion within the broad circles of those dealing with science and also philosophy, and in particular eco-philosophy. It is eco-philosophy that truly focuses on substantiating the ways of thinking as well as the rules governing the committed and well-thought actions related to the environmental protection. Educational initiatives for sustainable development are open to the influence of eco-philosophy. Therefore, the need to fill educational strategies and programs with the subtle philosophical “matter”, expressed in the form of values and related behavioral norms, opens a significantly large space for eco-philosophers and the eco-philosophy itself. It needs to be emphasized that the relation between the education for sustainable development and the activities aimed at strengthening the structures of the civil society creates additional interest on the part of numerous social entities as regards the philosophical discourse.

Every agribusiness company affects the natural environment, to a smaller or larger extent. There can be no choice between the environment and economic development, therefore the agribusiness companies must adjust their development to the possibilities that the environment offers. The aim of this study is to present ecological innovations in agribusiness companies and their reference to the idea of sustainable development. Survey research was carried out among 156 agribusiness companies from Kujawsko-pomorskie Province of Poland. The only companies participating in the research were those in which some ecological investments were implemented. The research showed that the agribusiness companies consider the policy of introducing ecological investments to be very important. The companies are trying to bring into their management the strategy of eco-innovations so that they can operate with a benefit for its consumers and the natural environment. The basic types of ecological investments in the surveyed agribusiness companies include: careful waste segregation, ecological production and limiting harmful gas emission. The ecological innovations stem from the principles of sustainable development, they support the introduction of sustainable solutions in the companies, they also allow for a more efficient use of natural resources and contribute to the limitation of actions harmful to the environment while maintaining the high level of innovativeness.

Artykuł jest próbą opisania czynników, które mają wpływ na budowę krajowej infrastruktury drogowej. Autostrady i drogi ekspresowe są jedną z form najbardziej drastycznej ingerencji w układy ekologiczne i krajobraz. Polska jest zróżnicowana pod względem klimatycznym, geologicznym, kulturowym, bogactwa występowania fauny i flory, poziomu zaludnienia, rozwoju gospodarczego, poziomu rozwoju rolnictwa, przemysłu, występowania bogactw naturalnych, wykopalisk archeologicznych, skupisk akwenów wodnych, rozdrobnienia gospodarstw rolnych, przywiązania do ziemi itp. To sprawia, że inaczej buduje się drogi w północnej części kraju, gdzie tereny są nizinne, bogatsze w zbiorniki wodne, a inaczej na wyżynnych obszarach południa Polski. Różnorodność regionalna wpływa na to, że w trakcie budowy dróg w różnych częściach kraju pojawiają się nieprzewidziane problemy, które spowalniają prace i mnożą koszty. Autorka, opierając się na wybranym przykładzie budowy odcinka autostrady nr 4 z Krakowa do Tarnowa, prezentuje różnego rodzaju cechy, w tym regionalne, środowiskowe, społeczne, które wpłynęły na czas i jakość realizowanych prac. Najważniejsze cechy regionalne województwa małopolskiego, które pozwalają na indywidualną charakterystykę prac budowlanych na tym terenie, to duże rozdrobnienie gospodarstw rolnych, bogactwo rezerwatów przyrody, występowanie „podwójnej dokumentacji prawnej” w obrocie nieruchomościami, nieuregulowany stan prawny znacznej ilości nieruchomości, przywiązanie mieszkańców do ziemi, tzw. ojcowizny, mała mobilność Małopolan, częste powodzie, mroźne zimy, bogactwo archeologiczne, liczne zabytki.
The author attempts to describe factors determining the development of the national road infrastructure. Motorways and expressways are one of the most severe forms of interference in ecosystems and landscape. Poland is diversified in respect of climate, geology, culture, fauna and flora, population, economic development, level of agricultural development, industry, natural resources, archeological excavations, water areas, fragmentation of farms, attachment to land, etc. As a result, roads are built differently in the northern part of the country dominated by lowlands, with greater number of water basins, than in the upland areas of southern Poland. Due to regional diversity, various unexpected problems occur during construction of roads in different parts of the country, which slows down the works and multiplies the costs. to regional diversity, various unexpected problems occur during construction of roads in different parts of the country, which slows down the works and multiplies the costs. Based on the selected example related to construction of the A4 motorway’s section from Cracow to Tarnów, the author presents a variety of factors, including regional, environmental and social ones, which influenced the duration and quality of the works. The most important regional features of Małopolska voivodeship, which determine the individual nature of construction works in this region, include high fragmentation of farms, abundance of nature reserves, existence of ‘double legal documentation’ in property dealing, unregulated legal status of a great number of properties, attachment to land, the so called ‘patrimony’, low mobility of inhabitants, frequent floods, cold winters, archaeological wealth, numerous monuments.

The natural environment of a human being consists of natural ground (where one can find food) and a society (in which one lives). Additionally, the person constitutes his or her own environments. This article explains the process of shaping ecological awareness during the Second Republic of Poland (1918 – 1939) in the pages of the yearbook “Wierchy” printed in Lviv since 1923. “Wierchy” replaced the journal “Pamiętniki” (which had been published by the Polish Tatra Association until 1920). It was devoted to the issue of the problems of the mountains and its territory and culture – as an organ of the Polish Tatra Association (published by the General Management together with the Lviv branch of the Association). The editorial committee consisted of prof. dr Jan Gwalbert Pawlikowski (editor–in-chief), prof. dr Adolf Chybiński, prof. dr Walery Goetel, dr Roman Kordys, and Major Bronisław Romaniszyn. The yearbook included numerous scientific articles explaining the significance of the idea and practices for the protection of flora and fauna in the Tatra Mountains. The urgent need for the protection of the Tatra environment was described in the journal as was the cultural determinants of human relationships with nature using examples from scholarly, poetic and musical works which form Polish cultural heritage.

Today, the more and more intensive use of natural resources and consequent environmental degradation have made the issue of sustainable development a central place in many discussions going on in scientific circles. In this light, ecological awareness, as well as pro-ecological attitudes and behaviors of people seem to be only too significant. The aim of this article is to present the results of research conducted among the inhabitants of the Municipality of Zawadzkie, Opole Voivodeship. The study examined the relation between the level of environmental awareness and manifestations of environmental attitudes and behaviors. The obtained results were also subjected to a comparative analysis of two groups of respondents: inhabitants of towns and villages. The study did not show any significant differences between residents of towns and villages in terms of their ecological awareness and environmental attitudes and behaviors. It can therefore be concluded that changes in the sphere of awareness and specific environmental actions that are being taken in the surveyed community are not related to the place of residence. Residents of towns and villages have a similar access to knowledge and cultural changes concern both groups. It is worth pointing out that awareness as such and knowledge of the environment does not guarantee developing proper attitudes and pro-ecological behaviors, and changes in the area of specific environmental activities are of a long-term nature and do not occur overnight. Research has also shown that although knowledge about ecology is not always reflected in everyday attitudes and behaviors of the respondents, changes in environmental direction can be observed in both urban and rural areas.

Generation-based approach to natural resource economics has been developed in the article. Based on sustainable development definition, generations can be categorized by present and future ones. An ecological classification of the global natural resources has been proposed, which is related to future generations. Economic issues of eco-futuristic classification have also been raised in the article. Classification of ecological values has been proposed and ecological values being incorporated into a form of ecological culture and exploited as a new factor of production have been analyzed. The effect of increasing marginal futuristic utility of ecological values has been revealed at the end of the article.

Rolnictwo ekologiczne dzięki metodom gospodarowania, które wykorzystuje, spełnia równocześnie trzy ważne zadania: korzystnie oddziałuje na środowisko naturalne, dostarcza ekologicznej żywności, wytworzonej bez udziału środków chemicznych oraz wpływa na sytuację dochodową właścicieli gospodarstw. Celem opracowania jest określenie tendencji rozwojowych gospodarstw ekologicznych w województwie podlaskim na tle innych regionów kraju oraz wskazanie głównych uwarunkowań ich rozwoju. Województwo podlaskie pod względem liczby gospodarstw ekologicznych zajmuje drugie miejsce w kraju (po województwie warmińsko-mazurskim), a pod względem udziału użytków ekologicznych w użytkach rolnych ogółem – miejsce czwarte (po zachodniopomorskim, lubuskim i warmińsko-mazurskim). Analiza obejmuje wybrane uwarunkowania prawno-organizacyjne, ekonomiczne, środowiskowo-produkcyjne i społeczne. W grupie uwarunkowań ekonomicznych zwraca uwagę niska sprzedaż produktów ekologicznych i wysokie zainteresowanie dopłatami z Unii Europejskiej.
Ecological agriculture, thanks to the methods it uses, also fulfills three important functions: favorably influences the natural environment, provides ecological food which is produced without chemicals and affects the economic status of owners of ecological farms. The aims of this paper consist of the identification of the development potential of ecological farms located within the Podlasie Voivodeship in comparison to other regions of the country as well as the determination of the main conditions affecting their development. The Podlasie Voivodeship is second in Poland in respect to the number of ecological farms (following the Warminsko-Mazurskie Voivodeship) and fourth in regard to the share of land used for ecological farming (after Zachodniopomorskie, Lubuskie and Warminsko-Mazurskie Voivodeship). Our analysis considers selected legal, organizational, economic, production, environmental and social conditions. In respect to the economic conditions very noticeable are the low sales of ecological products and high interest in EU subsidies.

Though the issue of eco-innovation is a new category in economic sciences, it is seen by farmers as a way to attain competitive advantage in the global market more and more often. The main determinants of implementation of eco-innovation in the economy are the formal and legal regulations and market factors. The primary purpose of eco-innovation is to reduce negative environmental impact of agricultural activity and to produce food that is good for people. The aim of this article is to present the issue of eco-innovation and to indicate strengths and weaknesses as well as opportunities and threats for agriculture that result from their implementation.
Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie zagadnienia ekoinnowacji oraz wskazanie silnych i słabych stron oraz szans i zagrożeń dla rolnictwa z ich wprowadzania. Mimo że zagadnienie ekoinnowacji jest nową kategorią w naukach ekonomicznych, to staje się coraz częściej dostrzegane przez rolników jako sposób na uzyskanie przewagi konkurencyjnej na globalnym rynku. Główne determinanty wdrażania innowacji ekologicznych w gospodarce to regulacje formalno-prawne oraz czynniki o charakterze rynkowym. Celem innowacji ekologicznych jest przede wszystkim zmniejszenie negatywnych skutków działalności rolniczej na środowisko naturalne, jak również produkcja żywności przyjaznej dla ludzi.

In this article we have attempted to answer the question of the possibilities of integrating the principles of eco-development with Catholic social teaching. We have done so on the basis of the works of a German moral theologian M. Vogt. The integration of the principles of eco-development with the Catholic social teaching may take place in a dialogue between the theology of creation together with its implications and the knowledge of nature. Considering the issue from the socio-ethical perspective it is vital to work out a new social agreement, which would take into account justified, although unspecified, claims of future generations. The integration of the principles of eco-development with Catholic social teaching is by no means impossible, although Vogt warns against treating the concept of eco-development as a superior issue - it is not a solution itself, but rather a key to the solution of contemporary problems at an intersection of three dimensions: social, economic and ecological. The proposed principle of eco-development shall become autonomous not in isolation to the traditional principles of Catholic social teaching, but in relation to them. The novelty of this principle is more about a new perspective, where man has to learn to see himself as part of creation as a whole. The principle also calls for a new way of thinking, which is the transition from a linear to a network way of thinking.

This work presents the issues concerning connections between eco-innovations and sustainable development in Poland and the European Union. Innovations and sustainable development are of fundamental importance for the growth in the economy. Sustainable development has been one of the European priorities for a long time. At present, it has acquired new significance in the light of the crisis connected with climate changes and the extensive financial crisis prevailing mainly in the USA and Europe. Still, it is a great challenge for EU cities and regions. Also examined were little cooperation between entrepreneurs and people of science in the processes introducing modern technologies and expenditure on innovations.
