The development of computer sciences has transformed the way of thinking and our perception of the world. To express this new view of the world, a new language is created, which uses such notions as “virtuality”, “virtual world”, “virtual reality”. These words have already worked in our colloquial speech and our thinking. However, they are used in various contexts and have a different meaning. The paper offers some remarks on the problem of the meaning of these notions and draws some consequences of their interpretation.

The purpose of this essay is to examine whether the theory of the pure relationship advanced by Anthony Giddens can be used to explain love relationships in Italy. The essay is structured as follows: we start with a presentation of the pure relationship (§ 1) and why I hold that to remain as faithful as possible to the essential presuppositions of this model we need to study the phenomenon of the free union between two people (§ 2). In the third section I present statistics from the 2003 ISTAT study Multifunctional analysis of the family and move on in the fourth section to draw conclusions taking this data into account.

Proficiency in any foreign language or languages is very inspirational. Infinite desire, tough self-discipline and personal attempts are vitally important factors in foreign language learning. Unfortunately, this idea ends when learning difficulties appear. They can stop learners and isolate them from future progress. According to the scholars and practitioners, there is a solution – to make learning more modernized by incorporating virtual and global technologies. This study will investigate the issue of effectiveness of foreign language learning in the context of globality and virtuality discourses. Nowadays young people represent the global digital generation that demonstrates excessive and habitual use of technologies. Considering that issue, the article discusses the controversial role of globality and virtuality in learning a foreign language.

In this paper I propose to demonstrate how the anthropological view can highlight the effects of the relationship between ethnic nationalism and global processes. Showing the results of an ethnographical research conducted in 2015, I focus on the representation of social identity in the contemporary Basque Country. I emphasize the central role played by the new technologies for the identification of the Basque communities’ boundaries. The creation of „the eighth province“ (or province of the diaspora) shows how, in this context, Internet could transform the “imagined community” into a virtual reality. The ethnographical view proves to be useful to understand how local practices and discourses can interact with global phenomena: particularly significant is the spreading of archaeogenetic investigations in Euskal Herria, in order to verify the hypothesis of a reproductive isolation of Basque people. Moreover, a big part of local population is using genetic tests proposed online by DNA consulting agencies. It is important to identify how these genetic narratives are absorbed and reused by local populations and if they can reshape the past of a mnemonic community, influencing the representation of its future.

This article presents the main results of an empirical research conducted on two places where young students make friendly relationships: school and Internet. It is obvious that two different places symbolize two different levels of reality. Are they complementary or contradictory? Are the friends of this real world equal to Facebook friends? Can we consider school friendship the same as the friendship accepted, and removed, by a simple click? The author tries to pinpoint the hidden mechanisms through which the virtual reality is actualized. By the social relational ontology, it’s possible to understand better and deeper the link between social capital of the young students and the continuum passage from on-line to off-line friendship.

Los jóvenes venezolanos han formado parte de la disputa política generada a partir de 1999 con el ascenso de Hugo Chávez al poder. Las narrativas sobre la política venezolana impregnan todos los espacios: la calle, el hogar, la escuela, la universidad, lo laboral y especialmente las redes sociales que se han convertido en las favoritas de los jóvenes para articular sus discursos y acciones políticas. En este estudio de corte cualitativo e interpretativo se pretende conocer los discursos que circulan a partir de la mirada de los jóvenes sobre la política venezolana. En lo metodológico, a través del uso de la etnografía virtual de Hine y el método de procesamiento cognitivo del discurso desde la perspectiva de Van Dijk, examinamos unidades de discurso en torno a la política venezolana tomadas de entrevistas en profundidad no estructuradas y unidades discursivas en redes (posts de Facebook y tuits de Twitter) de jóvenes estudiantes universitarios de Caracas entre 18 y 30 años. Como resultado preliminar se presenta que, aunque existe cuestionamiento mutuo entre las tendencias políticas en pugna en Venezuela, también existen narrativas comunes en torno a la política y sus prácticas. Adicionalmente los jóvenes resignifican la política y la sitúan como una disciplina que debe estar abocada al cambio general del país.
Venezuelan youth have been part of the political dispute generated since 1999 with the rise of Hugo Chávez to power. The narratives about Venezuelan politics permeate all spaces: the street, the home, the school, the university, the workplace and especially the social networks that have become the favorites of young people to articulate their speeches and political actions. In this qualitative and interpretive study, the aim is to know the discourses on Venezuelan politics that circulate from the perspective of young people. Methodologically, through the use of Hine virtual ethnography and the cognitive processing method of discourse from Van Dijk’s perspective, we examine units of discourse around Venezuelan politics taken from in-depth unstructured interviews and discursive units in networks (Facebook and Twitter posts) of young university students from Caracas between 18 and 30 years old. The presented preliminary results of the research indicate that, although there is mutual questioning between the competing political trends in Venezuela, there are also common narratives about politics and its practices. Additionally, young people resignify politics and place it as a discipline that should be doomed to the general change of the country.

In this paper the authors set out to interpret and define the concept of the "knowledge worker" with reference to the context of post-industrial transformation (new economy, information/network/knowledge/learning economy/society). They are reviewing a three dimensional model applicable for the identification of different types of knowledge workers and discuss in detail various issues with regards their work-related competencies. The economy of emotions and attention as well as the phenomena of virtual work are also explored within the same context.
W niniejszej pracy autorzy podejmują się próby zinterpretowania i zdefiniowania koncepcji pracownika wiedzy w kontekście postindustrialnej transformacji (nowa gospodarka, informacyjna/sieciowa/wiedzy/ucząca się gospodarka/społeczeństwo). Badaniu poddano trójwymiarowy model stosowany do identyfikacji różnych typów pracowników wiedzy. Ponadto szczegółowo przedyskutowano różne kwestie odnosząc się do kompetencji związanych z pracą. Ekonomia emocji i uwagi a także fenomen pracy wirtualnej zostały również zbadane w tym samym kontekście.

This paper presents the assumptions for the concept of a full mission ship’s bridge simulator prototype using innovative augmented virtuality technology. A description of a possible development process is provided as well as two potential applications in the field of marine simulation: operator motion tracking techniques, MoCap, which entails interacting with the environment and generating of synthetic images via HUD; and implementation of the latest technology, data gathering and analysis methods, which would replace current visualization methods and equipment used in maritime simulators.

W artykule przyjęto założenie, że wirtualizacja działalności gospodarczej wiąże się bezpośrednio z wdrażaniem technologii informatycznych w przedsiębiorstwach, tworzeniem sieci komunikacyjnych służących rozwojowi sieci wewnątrz- i międzyorganizacyjnych, relacji z klientami, komponowaniem architektury biznesu w cyberprzestrzeni. W artykule poddano analizie mechanizm przełożenia innowacyjnych wdrożeń informatycznych na wzrost wirtualizacji działalności gospodarczej i uruchamianie potencjału generowania wartości w przedsiębiorstwach.
This article adopts a thesis that virtualisation of a business means bringing information technologies into the business and creating communication networks needed to develop internal and interorganisational networks and customer relationships, and to build business architecture in the cyberspace. The author analysed the effects of innovative IT implementations on the enhancement of business virtualisation and triggering the potential of creation of business value.

Niniejsza praca wymienia sześć kroków, w których można opisać Kościół w kontekście pandemii COVID-19. Jej celem nie jest zatem jakakolwiek ocena reakcji Kościo- łów na kryzys, ale zwrócenie uwagi na dwa obszary: publiczny wymiar Kościoła i jego anachroniczny horyzont. Kościół od momentu swojego rozpoznawalnego początku lokuje się w przestrzeni dyskursu publicznego. Wskazują na to choćby przemówienia św. Piotra i św. Pawła w Dziejach Apostolskich, jak również budowle sakralne, którymi Kościół od IV wieku współtworzy przestrzeń publiczną. Budynki te są często naznaczone wielowiekową historią architektury i przeważnie niezmiennymi wymogami ich użytkowania. Ze względu na solidną konstrukcję kościoły są trwałe i dają możliwość przyszłego wykorzystania i przekształcenia. Ta solidna konstrukcja umożliwia anachroniczne przeżywanie czasu w budynkach kościelnych, w których przecinają się przeszłość, teraźniejszość i przyszłość. Ograniczenia pandemii COVID-19 nie zakłóciły w pełni życia religijnego, ale znacząco zmieniły jego charakter w dwóch aspektach: życie Kościoła przenosi się z przestrzeni publicznej do prywatnej, a liturgia często nie odbywa się już w przestrzeniach kościelnych, lecz w przestrzeni wirtualnej. Chociaż do tej pory publiczny charakter przekonań dawał gwarancję rzetelnej dyskusji i stanowił pomoc w radzeniu sobie z problemami naszych czasów, to teraz stworzył on pewne niebezpieczeństwo. Ponadczasowa dostępność i formowalność wirtualnego pokoju eliminują anachroniczne doświadczenie wiary. Bez względu na to, jaki kształt przybierze w przyszłości odnowa wiary i życia religijnego, to będą one musiały odzyskać publiczny i anachroniczny wymiar.
The article presents six steps to contextualise the question of the Church’s role during the COVID-19 pandemic. The goal is not to evaluate the churches’ answers to the crisis but to highlight two problem areas: the public dimension and the anachronistic horizon of the Church. Ever since its identifiable beginning, the Church has placed itself in the space of public discourse. The speeches of St Peter and St Paul in the Acts of the Apostles indicate this, as do the sacred buildings with which the Church has contributed to forming public space since the 4th century. These buildings are oftentimes marked by centuries of architectural history and mostly unaltered requirements for their use. Because of the churches’ solid construction, they are durable and have the potential for future use and transformation. This solid construction enables an anachronistic experience of time in church buildings in which the past, the present, and the future intersect. The restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic did not fully disrupt religious life, but they significantly changed its character in two aspects: church life is transferred from public to private space in lockdown scenarios, and liturgy does not primarily take place in church environments any longer but in the virtual space. While the public character of belief has so far guaranteed the debating of and dealing with the respective tendencies of the period, it has also turned into a possible danger. The timeless availability and formability of the virtual room eradicate the anachronistic experience of belief. Whatever shape the renewal of religious life may take on, it will have to win back the public and the anachronistic dimension of belief.

The article discusses the attitude of modern society to death and, in the cultural dimension, the impact of media technologies for further changes related to the perception of dying. The author considers the title issue in the context of premodern and modern reflection on the anthropology of the body and anthropology death. Then he develops them in the context of new conditions and determinants connected with to the radical change of technology and media. We are dealing not only with another displacement of the a dying body and dead body beyond the sphere of culture and everyday life, as it was in modernity, but also with its abandonment. Interestingly, this is happening in a body-capital-oriented culture. We should talk about absent death and the new phantom body. With the article, the author opens a discussion on virtual thanatopracticism, during the transition to a new type of society with a spectral structure.

The article presents the content shown at the “Festival of Art, Science and Society - Ars Electronica 2020”, which is organized annually in Linz. The focus was on the awarded and distinguished artistic works, taking into account their interpretation and the workshop in which they were created. In the article are presented i.a. such works of art as computer animation, network art, artificial intelligence art, hybrid art or bioart, which was briefly interpreted in relation to the currently being developed technologies and social contexts that accompanies it. The text was written as a result of the author’s personal participation in the festival, which also allowed to take into account the differences between the festival held mostly by web, as it was in 2020, compared to the stationary participation in it, as it was in previous years.
