Opis:
Wskazano i opisano trzy kryteria wyznaczające orientację biznesową: respektowanie zasad ekonomii, podejście rynkowe, respektowanie zasad skutecznego zarządzania. Postawiono i rozwinięto tezę o zróżnicowanym znaczeniu podejścia biznesowego w różnych rodzajach działań rekreacyjnych. To znaczenie jest bezsprzeczne w usługach rekreacyjnych oferowanych na rynku, ale jest ono wyraźnie zredukowane w usługach bezpłatnych finansowanych ze środków publicznych.
The starting point for this paper is the thesis of the need to improve the structure of the theory of recreation. Nowadays, such elements of the theory are well developed as physiological, social, and pedagogical conditions of recreation, or ideas of recreation methodology. But the economy-, market-, and management-related conditions are still ignored, so the theory does not take into account the business aspects. The aim of the paper is to supplement the theory of recreation with a new, business-oriented approach, as well as to indicate the practical implications of such a change. The article was prepared on the basis of literature research in the theory of recreation, discussion, and the author’s own reflection. The presented results aim at clarifying and specifying the existing knowledge and the methodological approach to recreation. Three criteria for defining business orientation were identified: respect for the principles of economics, market approach, respect for the principles of effective management. The author put forward and developed a thesis of a diverse significance of business approach in different types of recreational activities. The approach is undoubtedly essential in recreational services offered on the market but it is less important in free services financed from public funds.

Artistic recreation has been described in the literature for many years as one of its types. However, research into its meaning, or even motivation, is rarely undertaken. The author attempts to confront existing definitions of artistic recreation with changing trends in spending free time and types of recreational activity. She emphasizes the role of a creative approach to the organization of recreation as an opportunity for the better utilization of its potential to affect the development of the individual personality. To illustrate the values of artistic recreation and a creative approach to its organization, the author analyzes the case study of WI-MA Creative Industries Establishments.

Opis:
Self-preservation instinct of a contemporary human being, an increasing scarcity of natural resources as well as rapid urbanisation of our globe in recent decades have led to individual reactions which result in “invisible investments” in the field of individual, almost intimate, leisure. The tendency to build modern and unique buildings, or even sublime structures within natural landscapes is not a new phenomenon. Probably, the idea was first published by a person who was not even an architect, an american writer Truman Capote, in his famous novel The Grass Harp (1951) which, in reality, is a manifest of personal freedom, freedom of opinion and untouchable, delicate personal zone of human emotions. In America, it inspired many people to start a new fashion of building “tree houses”. The need came back in the recent years in a little bit different form – building structures designed for individual leisure, recreation and contemplation of the most beautiful places on Earth.

Opis:
The concept of creative recreation is currently gaining a new meaning. The author proposes expanding the meaning of recreation to include creative recreation by drawing on insights from psycho-pedagogical theories of creativity. Nowadays creative recreation is also being explored more broadly in the context of urban space, as exemplified by workshops during which participants try to create urban space. The phenomenon of creative recreation in urban space is therefore an interesting subject for research, especially with a view to identifying factors that determine where creative activity is organised. The main research question addressed in this article is who and why organises outdoor creative recreation in urban recreational space? The study focuses on Łódź, a UNESCO Creative City of Film, which is analysed as an example of a city promoting itself as a creative urban centre. The author analyses results of interviews with experts and organisers of outdoor creative recreation, which show the latter ones as open-minded, engaged, and passionate. Other important characteristics revealed by the interviewees include cooperation with others, attempts to look for new ways of organising leisure time and new forms of mutual promotion. The organisers of outdoor creative recreation also expressed their strong attachment their city.

Opis:
The aim of the article is to characterise suburban zones, particularly as area performing recreational and tourist functions for inhabitants of large cities (metropolises). The study presents goals and motivations, frequency and duration of recreational and tourist activity undertaken in suburban areas based on information collected from a representative group of Polish urban dwellers. The study is based on a review of the literature, the author’s observations and survey results. Essential quantitative data were obtained from a survey conducted on a representative sample of the Polish population carried out on the end of 2014 using the standardized questionnaire survey method as part of the Omnibus Express service (CATI). Most respondents contacted in the survey undertook tourist and recreational activity in the suburban zone every day or almost every day, usually accompanied by other family members. Their main intention was to rest and enjoy some recreational activities, visit relatives or friends and stay on summer holiday plots. The choice of the suburban zone was to a greater extent motivated by its tourist assets and familiarity with the area than its proximity to the place of permanent residence. Many respondents used some form of accommodation during those stays, including their own (private) summer houses, or relatives’ / friends’ flats, or hotel accommodation. The monitoring of tourist and recreational activity in Poland should be continued and should also focus on spaces used for these purposes. More extensive research would make it possible to identify patterns and trends, also at regional level. Consequently, this kind of research would facilitate a more effective planning and organization of tourism and recreation, which would bring measurable social, economic and spatial effects.

The aim of the article, in theoretical terms, is to investigate aspirations for entrepreneurship among students. In empirical terms, the objective is to determine the levels of aspiration in the field of entrepreneurship among students with a tourism and recreation profile in the business area related to their degree. In other words the scale of their willingness to set up their own business in the tourism and recreation industry. To achieve its goal, primary research was conducted using the questionnaire method (114 students of Tourism and Recreation took part). Moreover, desk research was used in the form of literature analysis, ‘logical operations’ and observation (especially in referring to practical aspects). The article consists of four substantive parts, an introduction and a conclusion. The results of the research show that the level of entrepreneurship aspiration among the students surveyed is high. The majority (89%) plan to set up their own business in the future in the area of tourism and recreation (76%), most often in the accommodation industry, event organisation or catering.

Recently introduced on the Polish market, the Finnish product under the name of Nordic Walking gains more and more supporters and followers. When trying to determine the essence of Nordic Walking we should first define the term ‛physical activity’ and ‛recreation’. Nordic Walking belongs to a general motor activity. Physical activity is the amount of exercise or physical activity needed to develop and maintain one’s health. Quite a simple technique of motion while walking with poles, the possibility of maintaining control of exercise intensity and relatively inexpensive (compared to other disciplines) sports equipment contribute positively to the versatility of Nordic Walking and its availability to any person interested in this sport. The march with the poles is one of the most commonly undertaken, and the most natural form of exercise in everyday life, especially for people in middle and old age, as these particular age groups dominate in Nordic Walking. It does not require large financial outlays or specific time and place, as opposed to practicing fitness or bodybuilding. One can just go out for a daily walk and simply take the poles with them.

Effective health-oriented education in the area of sports and recreation events organization - is not a goal which is easy to achieve. The idea is certainly worthy of attention, since the benefits can be passed on to the organizer, sponsor and the entire society. The purpose of this paper is to present sports and recreation events as a means of promoting physical culture and health-oriented education. Motions, proposals, and preconditions (as described here) of effective educational intervention in the organization of events are based on 15-years-long secret (hidden) participatory observation of 141 different (in terms of their organizational specifics) street runs - both in Poland and in the neighbouring countries - Germany, Czech Republic and Slovakia. Sports and recreation events can become an effective instrument of education for a healthy lifestyle only if they are widely available (easily accessible), if they draw media attention, are popular, cyclical (recurring), have a specific program and atmosphere. The organizers of events in the area of physical recreation should not encourage competition but rather educate for regular participation in health-oriented training, while active participation in sports and recreation event might fit in the pre-planned health capacity control. For sports and recreation events to become a carrier of socially desirable values such as health or healthy lifestyle, promoters should intentionally put emphasis on these values and place them above commercial or marketing strategies of sponsors.

Contemporary society is quickly ageing, due to positive reasons (the development of medicine), as well as to negative ones (the decrease of birthrate). An important issue, from the point of view of public health, is maintaining activity and physical efficiency of elderly people. The sense of balance and motor skills are important factors in preventing falls, which are frequent causes of injuries leading to premature death. The stereotype of passive rest of seniors (walks, social meetings in their own circles) is commonplace. The phenomenon of active relaxation of elderly persons has appeared only recently. Some types of physical activity, known as all age sports, may be safely performed in public green areas, e.g. bowls, cricket or mini golf. "Playgrounds" or even parks designed especially for elderly people, enabling fitness improving exercises, have appeared on the international market. Presently many facilities, aimed at keeping fit or even rehabilitation (e.g. the system of LifeTrail routes) exist in Japan, Great Britain, Germany and Spain. They show an entirely new image of the elderly, who should have full rights to use public spaces.

The level of social competence depends not only on the internal qualities of an individual but also on environmental factors. This article aims to present the findings of research concerning the level of social competences attained by students of tourism and recreation throughout their higher education and comprises quantitative and qualitative research methods. The results indicate that students show only average levels of social competence even though their academic teachers declare that education outcomes have been accomplished in this field.

It presents below only the results concerning the basic information of physical recreation of this social group, without the analysis of the conditionality of the participations in this kind of leisure time activities. The study results indicate that the participation of people with disabilities in physical recreation near and away from their place of residence is low. Respondents prefer weekend activity near their place of residence and the forms of recreation are not very diverse. They usually use small recreation and sports facilities or they use outdoor infrastructure. Enhanced involvement of people with disabilities in physical recreation together with personalized, adjusted to a given dysfunction offer is required.
