The aim of the article is to present Gomorra by Roberto Saviano as the largest contemporary transmedia project in Italy, which includes theatre play, movie, drama series and many other satellite works. In particular, the paper shows how the book fits into the concept of convergence culture by Henry Jenkins. The article provides answers to questions about fandom of Gomorra, about specific realizations of some of Saviano’s stories, about the nature of the relation between grassroots fan culture and creators of official productions and about the role of the writer himself in all these processes.

The article aims to analyse the phenomenon of a Norwegian Internet-TV show for teenage audiences, Skam (2015–2017). The transmedia storytelling used in this production resulted in unforeseen international acclaim, subsequently leading to the creation of local remakes of the series. The article will outline the main issues that the show has dealt with, as well as the immersion-building narrative solutions used by the creators. Moreover, it will discuss Skam’s reception by Norwegian and international audiences, and suggest potential directions for the future development of this format.

Konwergencja mediów i rozwiązań medialnych wpływa na sposób korzystania przez młodzież z urządzeń cyfrowych i aplikacji im dedykowanych. Nowa digitalna rzeczywistość kształtuje kolejne zjawisko społeczne, jakim jest blogging, który tworzy specyficzną kulturę komunikacji. W dobie cyfrowych technologii oraz dostępu do wielu programów sieciowych współczesne pokolenie młodych odczuwa potrzebę bycia online, chce mieć szybki dostęp do informacji, a także może je samodzielnie zamieszczać w internecie. W artykule opisano tylko jedną formę medialną, jaką jest blog, i tę uczyniono przedmiotem eksploracji. Głównym celem badań było pozyskanie opinii respondentów na temat blogów jako popularnej formy komunikacji w cyberprzestrzeni. Szczegółowa diagnoza badanego zjawiska była możliwa dzięki sformułowaniu czterech problemów badawczych. Wykorzystano metodę sondażu diagnostycznego. Dla respondentów biorących udział w badaniu skonstruowano autorskie narzędzie empiryczne, które umieszczono online na stronie survio.com/pl.
The convergence of media and media solutions affects the way young people use digital devices and applications dedicated to them. The new digital reality shapes another social phenomenon – blogging, which creates a specific culture of communication. In the era of digital technologies and access to many network programs, the modern generation of young people feels the needto be online, wants to have quick access to information and can also post it on the Internet themselves. The article describes only one media form, which is a blog, and this form has been explored. The main goal of the research was to obtain respondents' opinions on blogs as a popularform of communication in cyberspace. A detailed diagnosis of the studied phenomenon was possible thanks to the formulation of four research problems. The diagnostic survey method was used.A proprietary empirical tool was constructed for respondents participating in the study, which wasplaced online at survio.com/pl.

The article aims at answering questions about the most popular forms of children’s entertainment available in various social media. It also provides an introduction to the subject of convergence in the media, especially in entertainment for the youngest audiences transferred into virtual reality. The author seeks an answer to the question whether nowadays the television itself is not sufficient, as the Internet offers a prolongation of the possibility of experiencing entertainment by children in the virtual world. This article is a follow-up of the essay Alan Kurdi’s Online Resurrections published in the previous issue of the ‘Cultural Studies Appendix’ (3/2016). This time the author analyzes the remakes of the widely shared shot of Omran Daqneesh – a 5-years old Syrian boy sitting in the ambulance and fully covered by dust with seeable traces of brushes and stains of blood – taken from the viral footage which reported damages and sufferings caused by the airstrikes on the Syrian biggest city, Aleppo, during the civil war. For once the author discusses not only the visual rhetoric strategies applied in those remakes, but also their ethical dimensions, especially in reference to the category of ‘unrepresentability’ connected with the concept of the ‘limit situations’.

This paper examines the question of what values might underlie a global regimen of law. It is concerned with the level of culture and learning that could prevail among a future global public. It begins by explaining how law is a central element in the project of globalization, and how legal influence touches on all areas of global order. The paper discusses the two predominant Western traditions of law, Anglophone and Civilian, the legal culture each represents, and the values implicit in their two different conceptions of legality. It reviews certain fundamental elements present in each tradition since their near simultaneous beginnings in the medieval world. It explores the relationship of both legal methods to the realm of public understanding, especially in their two differing versions of the university as a center of learning. In doing so, the paper also examines the contrasting roles of scholar and judge in each legal system. It then looks forward to probable difficulties in any attempt at combining the two traditions of law into a single global regime. The paper concludes by using America as a model to contemplate what values might shape an Anglophone legal culture, applicable to all peoples in all localities around the world. Finally, the paper summarizes the foregoing, and looks toward the possible redefinition of culture and learning in a global Rule of Law.

Jesteśmy stale pod ścisłym nadzorem cyfrowych mediów, które profilują nas zgodnie z własnym interesem.
The main concern of this text is the question – how media consumption alters in new digital society? Modern media are very creative in constructing our reality. All information is persuasive, a lot of it – manipulative. All these conditions give a very simple, homogenous image of a very complicated reality. We are under close digital media surveillance, which to divides audience according to their interests.

The aim of this article is to critically analyze the internet’s remixes of Nilüfer Demir’s photography showing the dead body of Alan Kurdi – a 3-year old Syrian refugee – found on the beach near Turkish city Bordum. The main question here is: how the convergence culture ‘regards the pain of the other’ and deals with it? Semiotic analysis of chosen examples leads to a conclusion that while some artists undertake a specific visual tactics of protest and objection, more often, and even in clearly critical pictures, the ‘rhetoric of consolation’ is a predominating one and serves to both artists’ and viewers’ complacency and consoling. Terror of the pain and death is deleted from those images and replaced by cheap and idle tenderness or even kitsch.

The phenomenon of publication, in the same year, of two books having identical titles, is enough to study the theory presented therein. Both books feature the notion of culture, which was broadly elaborated by both authors: Antonina Kłoskowska and Raymond Williams already in their earlier analyses. It turns out, however, that no matter the title of a book interesting to us, culture is tackled differently in both of them. Williams seems to keep using anthropological definition of culture, while Kłoskowska suggests sociological approach. A reflection on culture by the English academic has shaped the character of British cultural studies and their subsequent follow-ups around the world. A question arises, to what extent the sociological approach by Kłoskowska may give impetus to cultural research in Poland, especially when symbolic culture appears beyond the principle of autotelism.

Role Playing Games (or narrative games) constitute an important phenomenon in the modern culture. RPGs consist in the players adopting fictitious character roles in the reality created according to a pre-established scenario, which is related to particular texts of culture – mainly popular culture. The games are a peculiar type of adaptation, as the adapted layer is not the text itself, but the vision of the world that the text presents. Both the texts and the corresponding games are transmedial in character, which associates this form of play to the process of media convergence. The phenomenon of RPGs is also inscribed in the cultural current of “participation culture”, in which people are not passive recipients of prepared messages, but active participants in their creation. In the case of RPGs, the participation involves enacting situations which reflect cultural archetypes, and creating cultural messages.

W artykule zaprezentowano stan badań oraz perspektywy badawcze w zakresie źródeł do badań kultury czytelniczej zarówno w aspekcie historycznym, jak i współczesnym. Sprecyzowano pojęcie kultury czytelniczej w ujęciu jednostkowym i społecznym, a także określono zakres źródeł do jej badania. Wskazano na komponenty kultury czytelniczej i odpowiadające im źródła – szeroko rozumiane dokumenty recepcji – znaki proweniencyjne, materiały autobiograficzne, literaturę piękną i sztukę, listy prenumeratorów, akta notarialne, inwentarze, katalogi, dokumentację instytucji oświatowych, prasę, dyrektywy i instrukcje. Omówiono zależności „starych źródeł” od „nowych źródeł”, wskazując szczegółowe obszary refleksji naukowej w tym temacie.
The article presents the state of research as well as the research perspectives with reference to the research sources in reading culture in terms of the past and the present. It determines the reading culture definition taking the individuals and the society into consideration. It shows the components of reading culture and corresponding sources – widely understood the reception documents – provenance marks, autobiographical materials, literature and art, subscriber lists, notarial files, inventories, catalogs, documentation of educational institutions, press, directives and instructions. There have been revealed the dependencies between “the old” and “the new” sources, pointing the detailed areas of scientific researches.

Procesy globalizacyjne skutkujące przenoszeniem fabryk do innych krajów wymagają od firm zachowania spójności zarówno w zakresie elementów widocznych dla klientów (jakość, marka, produkt), jak i niewidocznych (struktura, kultura organizacyjna, metody zarządzania). Przedmiotem artykułu jest ten drugi, niewidoczny dla klienta obszar. Autor poddał analizie dwie podstawowe strategie interkulturowe stosowane przez firmy: dywergencję i konwergencję. Dywergencja odbierana jako stawiająca na różnorodność i zorientowana na ludzi wydaje się współcześnie wyborem bardziej oczywistym. Presja interesariuszy zmusza jednak firmy do ujednolicania i standaryzowania, co w powszechnej percepcji kojarzy się ze złymi korporacyjnymi praktykami. Konwergencja, jeśli jest stosowana nieumiejętnie, jak pokazują przytoczone w artykule przykłady, prowadzi do kulturowych konfliktów i w konsekwencji zagraża interesom przedsiębiorstwa. Umiejętne łączenie obu tych podejść staje się najważniejszym zadaniem dla menedżerów w międzynarodowych firmach. Autor na podstawie wniosków z własnych badań wyróżnił pięć kluczowych czynników wpływających na przenikanie się dywergencji i konwergencji oraz ich nasilenie.
Globalization processes, resulting in the relocation of enterprises to other countries require companies to maintain consistency in both: elements visible to the customer (such as quality, brand, product etc.) and those invisible (structure, organizational culture, management methods). The subject of the article is that invisible aspect. The author has analyzed two basic strategies used by companies: divergence and convergence, taking into account their possible advantages and disadvantages. Divergence, perceived as focused on diversity, seems to be the more obvious choice nowadays. Pressure from stakeholders, however, forces companies to unify and standardize, which is commonly associated with bad corporate practices. Convergence, if used incompetently, as the examples cited in the article show, leads to cultural clashes and, consequently, threatens the interest of the company. Skillful use of the combination of both approaches, becomes the most important task for managers in international companies. The author, based on his research, has identified five key factors influencing the interpenetration of divergence and convergence and their intensity.
