W opracowaniu odniesiono się do wybranego aspektu zmiany klimatu, odczuwanego w terenach zabudowanych jako miejska wyspa ciepła. Przedstawiono wybrane rozwiązania łagodzenia skutków przegrzewania miast, stosowane przez mieszkańców w pustynnym i gorącym klimacie Bliskiego Wschodu. Zestawiono historyczne rozwiązania ochładzania zespołów mieszkaniowych budynkami z wieżami zwanymi łapaczami wiatru. Opracowano typologię tych budowli jako inspirację współczesnych, ekologicznych rozwiązań mających na celu poprawę warunków życia mieszkańców w miastach w warunkach nasilającego się przegrzewania budynków i przestrzeni publicznych.
The article focuses on selected aspects of climate change perceived in built-up areas and known as an urban heat island phenomenon. Selected solutions to mitigate the effects of urban overheating used by residents in the desert and hot climate of the Middle East are presented. Historical solutions for cooling housing complexes using towers called “wind catchers” have been put together and compared. The typology of these buildings was developed as an inspiration for contemporary ecological solutions to improve the living conditions of residents in cities in the conditions of increasing overheating of buildings and public spaces.

Opis:
Thermodynamic analysis of car air cooler is presented in this paper. Typical refrigerator cycles are studied. The first: with uncontrolled orifice and non controlled compressor and the second one with the thermostatic controlled expansion valve and externally controlled compressor. The influence of the refrigerant decrease and the change of the air temperature which gets to exchangers on the refrigeration efficiency of the system; was analysed. Also, its effectiveness and the power required to drive the compressor were investigated. The impact of improper refrigerant charge on the performance of air conditioning systems was also checked.

Opis:
Air conditioning systems in vehicles require long-term reliability during their entire service life. Especially, a good sealing function is needed for the prevention of coolant leaking. Unfortunately, in specific cases, after a particular time, screw connections of the air conditioning circuit lose their tightness, and the coolant starts to leak. Therefore, this paper focuses on the analysis and design optimisation of screw connections. We used the finite element method for describing the sealing, screw and disc spring behaviour. Then, we proposed a new design of the disc spring to obtain the proper force-deformation characteristics of the connection and ensure the tightness of the screw connection.

This work presents an application possibility of sorption refrigerators driven by low temperature fluid for air conditioning of buildings. Thermodynamic models were formulated and absorption LiBr-water chiller with 10 kW cooling power as well as adsorption chiller with silica gel bed were investigated. Both of them are using water for desorption process with temperature T[des] = 80[degrees]C. Coefficient of performance (COP) for both cooling cycles was analyzed in the same conditions of the driving heat source, cooling water T[c]=25[degrees]C and temperature in evaporator T[evap] = 5[degrees]C. In this study, the computer software EES was used to investigate the performance of absorption heat pump system and its behaviour in configuration with geothermal heat source.

Biologically inspired computing that looks to nature and biology for inspiration is a revolutionary change to our thinking about solving complex computational problems. It looks into nature and biology for inspiration rather than conventional approaches. The Human Immune System with its complex structure and the capability of performing pattern recognition, self-learning, immune-memory, generation of diversity, noise tolerance, variability, distributed detection and optimisation - is one area that has been of strong interest and inspiration for the last decade. An air conditioning system is one example where immune principles can be applied. This paper describes new computational technique called Artificial Immune System that is based on immune principles and refined for solving engineering problems. The presented system solution applies AIS algorithms to monitor environmental variables in order to determine how best to reach the desired temperature, learn usage patterns and predict usage needs. The aim of this paper is to explore the AIS-based artificial intelligence approach and its impact on energy efficiency. It will examine, if AIS algorithms can be integrated within a Smart Air Conditioning System as well as analyse the impact of such a solution.

A bottleneck for the development of public transport vehicles is their electricity supply. Electric buses are almost exclusively equipped with electrochemical batteries, while nearly 40% of the energy is used in the processes of air conditioning. For this reason, we developed and built a demonstration system for storing thermal energy in public transport vehicles. The most important effects are: significant reduction of financial expenses and of the total weight of all batteries with the same amount of stored energy.

The conditions of efficient use of heat pumps in air conditioning systems are considered in order to ensure the established temperature and relative humidity of air in premises with the removal of excess moisture in the warm or hot periods of the year. For this purpose, a thermodynamic analysis of heat pump air conditioning schemes with exhaust air recirculation through a condenser and through a heat pump evaporator has been carried out. To determine the potential capabilities of such schemes to maintain comfortable conditions in the production room, a numerical analysis of their operating parameters, depending on the temperature and relative humidity of external atmospheric air, was performed. It has been shown that recirculation of exhaust air through the heat pump evaporator allows to maintain the given conditions in the room in a wider range of parameters of external atmospheric air. In addition, it has been shown that such a scheme requires less specific energy consumption for the operation of heat pump, which means that it is more efficient.

One of the particularly significant threats during exploitation is the climatic threat, which is associated with an increase in the overall costs that are allocated to combating it. The rise in the virgin temperature of the rock mass by 1oC increases the demand for the required cooling capacity to be taken from the air. The publication assesses the effectiveness of the air-conditioning installation by testing its operation on a selected example. The assessment of the efficiency of the air-conditioning installation for a selected hard coal mine showed that none of the five tested coolers achieved the maximum assumed rated power. The use of total power (7.5 MW) in mining excavations was less than 50% and amounted to η = 0.472%. The research showed that the main reason for obtaining low cooling parameters is the inability to locate them in the place of the highest air temperatures. The other problem is an insufficient airflow rate of cooling water supplied to the coolers at too high temperature. The above considerations indicated that the cooling power from built-in air- conditioning systems is not properly and effectively used. Improving the efficiency of its functioning is possible by proceeding research that will eliminate the above factors and by using air conditioning equipment, taking into account the periodic audit of their work to reduce electricity consumption.

Techniques related to elimination of environmental pollution are divided into two main trends. These are primary and secondary solutions. Primary solutions are based on the creation / selection of technologies that do not emit pollutants, secondary solutions are used in the situation that pollutants are already generated. Elimination is made by selected technological processes. When using residential, office or industrial buildings, emissions are primarily associated with the use of energy carriers such as electricity, heat or cold. During electricity production, pollution is related mostly to the atmosphere degradation. Thus, any solution that reduces energy consumption or improves the energy efficiency of buildings is the primary method of environment protection. This article proposes and investigates an idea of cold storage system based on an adsorbent bed (silica gel), which aims to reduce the energy consumption of the domestic air conditioning system. As a result of experimental research, it was shown that for a building with a volume of 1000m 3 and multiples of air exchanges at 0.5 level, a silica gel bed with a volume of 1.63 m3 is required in order to continuously unload the air conditioning system for 8 hours (while outside air temperature exceeding 25oC).

The mountain areas, due to their specificity, require special approach to issues concerning heating and air-conditioning of buildings. After presenting general information on demand for heat in a standard residential building, the forecasting of demand for final energy by particular branches of economy has been presented. Fossil fuels are most commonly used in heating buildings. In this kind of systems the heat is supplied to the consumer by means of heating pipes provided by heat power stations or combined heat and power stations or it is generated in boilers owned by the consumers. The remote heat source can also be energy from geothermal power station, as it is in the Podhale region. There is an alternative solution to these systems in the form of heat pumps that are often connected to borehole heat exchangers. Depending on the energy balance of the heating system and air-conditioning of a particular building the latter system can be additionally aided by solar collectors. This method requires only a power service connection, which is available almost in every building. Moreover, practical uses of the proposed system, which should be more widely applied in the mountain areas, have been described.

In this study, design of an electronic air-conditioning system was carried out using Matlab/Simulink software. The air-conditioning system was designed as a laboratory experimental setup. The aim of this study was to revise and to reuse an outdated air-conditioning laboratory unit, by using improved methods. General equations were defined separately for each part and cell of this air conditioning system. Using these equations Matlab/Simulink models for every component were created. The Matlab/Simulink models were combined and verified with theoretical results. The simulation results show that theoretical results are compatible with the simulation results. These results were tested for input and output air enthalpy values and for humidity values. In addition, air mass flow rates for the number of different fan speeds were compared. The coherent simulation results showed that the general model of the air conditioning system, designed in Matlab/Simulink, behaves correctly. This model will be used in the future studies for comparison of real system results with simulation results.

W artykule przedstawiono proces projektowania i budowy klimatyzacji samochodowej wykorzystującej moduły Peltiera, Alternatywna klimatyzacja umożliwia szybkie ogrzanie powietrza niezależnie od temperatury silnika. Można montować ją zarówno w nowych jak i starych pojazdach. Układ nie wymaga serwisu, ani ingerencji w standardowy układ chłodniczy. Wykorzystano materiały, które umożliwiają wgląd na ruch cieczy w układzie jak i pogląd na układ elektroniczny.
The paper shows a process of designing and constructing automotive air conditioning for a practical application of Peltier module in climatronic. Our project lets us quickly heat up air, autonomously to engine's temperature. The model can be installed both in old and new cars. Furthermore, Peltier's module does not require servicing or interfering a standard heat exchanger. Resources used in assembly enable insight in fluid drift and electronics system's composition.

W miarę wydłużenia się okresu eksploatacji, instalacje klimatyzacyjne mogą ulegać zanieczyszczeniu i stanowić źródło mikrobiologicznego skażenia powietrza. Air conditioning systems are technical solution for improvement of indoor air quality. With the passage of time, ventilation systems may be contaminated and become one of the most active emission sources of microbial contaminants. In new buildings as well as in those already exploited for many years. a detailed monitoring of air conditioning systems including periodic cleaning and prospective disinfection should be carried out as an immanent part of technical performance and hygienic purity checking.
