    We examined the response of plants of various crop and weed species to cyanamide in order to evaluate allelochemical- mediated interactions between the species. We studied germination and seedling growth in the common weeds Galium aparine L. and Amaranthus retroflexus L., and the crops Zea mays L., Triticum aestivum L., Lactuca sativa L., Solanum lycopersicum L. and Sinapis alba L. as acceptor plants. Concentration-dependent phytotoxic effects of cyanamide were noted during seed germination and in the root and shoot growth of the tested plants. The monocotyledonous plants generally were less sensitive to cyanamide treatment. Seed germination and seedling growth of the dicotyledonous plants were strongly inhibited by the allelochemical at both tested concentrations (1.2 mM, 3 mM). We conclude that cyanamide has potential for use as a natural herbicide only in specific field systems of cyanamide-tolerant monocotyledonous crops accompanied by cyanamide-sensitive dicotyledonous weeds.

    The presented study is a part of project aimed at finding the sources of aggression among children in early school age. Exploratory research included 48 children, their parents (41 mothers, 19 fathers) and 2 teachers. To examine the relationship between the intensity of aggressive behaviour among pupils and emotionality of their parents, the following methods have been applied: Emotional Control Questionnaire by J. Brzeziński, Type D Scale by N. Ogińska-Bulik, Z. Juczyński and J. Denollet and the Student Behaviour Rating Scale by I. Grzankowska. The analyses have shown that mothers’ motivation to behave rationally is positively correlated with indirect aggression among children whereas fathers’ cognitive control of emotogeneous situations correlates negatively with the number of acts of physical aggression acts taken by children at school. The results indicate that parents emotional control could predict children aggressive behaviour. Due to a limited sample size, replication of the research is recommended.

    The article is an attempt to establish the relationship between things, memory, and identity building in Mikrotyki by Paweł Sołtys. Three short stories (Szlugi, Listy, and Patelnia) in which the items constitute the main plotline were selected for analysis. Detailed analysis of the texts showed that all things are strongly connected with the category of nostalgia and the work of memory, thus becoming the building blocks of the writer’s identity, but each of them has a different meaning in this process. Cigarettes are primarily an impulse that activates the memory mechanism and refers to an experience shared by a certain generation. Letters, as nostalgic things,are a memento of the past. An abandoned frying pan becomes a contribution to reflection on the relationship between people and things. Each of the described items forces the author to interpret the past in a specific way, and thus also the present.

    In this work we measure the nucleation and annihilation of magnetic vortices in Pacman-like (PL) micromagnets prepared from Permalloy ($Ni_{81}Fe_{19}$, Py) at 77 K. Lateral dimensions of explored objects are ≤1 μm with thickness of about 40 nm. The micromagnets are located directly on the high-sensitive micro-Hall probe based on GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructure by lift-off process. Experiments show good agreement of the magnetization reversal with the micromagnetic simulation. Other shapes of micromagnets are also considered to obtain more precise picture of the vortex dynamics.

    Celem pracy było określenie granicznych wartości zatężania niskostężonych zanieczyszczeń gazowych w procesie adsorpcji zmiennociśnieniowej (PSA) na potrzeby badań doświadczalnych nad zatężaniem metanu w powietrzu wentylacyjnym. Jako zanieczyszczenie, w miejsce CH4, dobrano ditlenek węgla, który adsorbuje się lepiej i bardziej selektywnie w stosunku do składników powietrza niż metan na zastosowanym adsorbencie. Przeprowadzono zatem badania dla mieszanin zawierających 0,24-0,69% obj. CO2 w powietrzu. Stwierdzono, że w proponowanym procesie można uzyskać gaz wzbogacony o stężeniu nawet siedmiokrotnie wyższym niż stężenie CO2 w gazie zasilającym. Ponadto stwierdzono, że w żadnym z przypadków eksperymentalnych stężenie zanieczyszczenia w gazie wzbogaconym nie przekroczyło 5% obj., czyli dolnej granicy wybuchowości metanu.
    In the case of experimental investigations concerning methane enrichment in the air it is necessary to avoid a rise of CH4 concentration above 5 vol.% i.e. its lower explosive limit. In order to determine experimentally safe ranges of pressure swing adsorption (PSA) parameters and the maximum level of the enrichment CO2 was considered as a low-concentrated impurity in the air instead of methane because of higher adsorption capacity and selectivity towards nitrogen and oxygen in available adsorbents. Experimental results are therefore presented of the enrichment of CO2 (0.24-0.69 vol.%) mixed with the air. It was found that the concentration of carbon dioxide in a CO2-enriched stream is up to seven times higher than that in the raw gas. It was also concluded that in all experimental cases CO2 concentration in the CO2-enriched stream did not exceed 5 vol.%.

    W pracy przedstawiono kilka zautomatyzowanych systemów pomiarowych obejmujących klasyczne i elektroniczne toromierze do pomiarów geometrii torów i rozjazdów kolejowych w płaszczyźnie poziomej i pionowej. Scharakteryzowano współdziałanie oprogramowań do tych systemów, określono szczegółowe możliwości pomiarowe i dokładnościowe przyrządów oraz składniki opracowań wyników uwzględniających raporty graficzne i opisowe. Podane zostały wybrane przykłady raportów stanowiących wyniki pomiarów doświadczalnych. Na podstawie przeprowadzonych pomiarów i uzyskanych wyników dokonano oceny zastosowania systemów z uwzględnieniem wymagań odpowiednich instrukcji dotyczących badań geometrii torów i rozjazdów.
    The paper presents several automatic measurements systems including classical and electronic rail measurement devices for the measurements of the geometry of rail tracks and junctions in 2D and 3D. The co-operation of the software used in these systems was characterised, detail measurements of data processing, regarding graphic and descriptive reports. Selected examples of the reports making the results of experimental measurements were given. Based on the carried out measurements and obtained results the assessement of the application of systems was made, regarding the requirements of proper instructions referring to the studies of the geometry of rails tracks and rail junctions.

    W ostatnim kwartale 2015 roku, stacje monitorujące oddziaływanie robót strzałowych w kopalniach odkrywkowych w rejonie Chrzanowa, zarejestrowały zdarzenia związane z robotami górniczymi prowadzonymi w kopalniach podziemnych. Dokonane rejestracje drgań pozwoliły na przeprowadzenie analizy ich struktury częstotliwościowej z zastosowaniem filtrowania tercjowego i algorytmu Matching Pursuit. Porównano również ocenę oddziaływania z zastosowaniem skal SWD i GSI. Przeprowadzone analizy wskazują na zdecydowanie wyższą intensywność i energię drgań indukowanych robotami górniczymi w kopalni podziemnej, mimo że odległość zdarzeń od miejsca pomiaru była ponad 10-krotnie większa.
    In the last quarter of 2015, stations monitoring the impact of blasting in opencast mines in the area of Chrzanów, recorded events associated with the mining works carried out in underground mines. The conducted analysis shows significantly higher intensity and the energy of vibrations induced by mining works in the underground mine, even though the distance of events from the point of measurement was more than 10 times higher. Acquired vibration registrations have allowed to perform the analysis of their frequency structure using one-third octave filtering and Matching Pursuit algorithm. The impact assessment of vibrations has also been compared with the use of SWD and GSI scales.

    The data on the distribution and number of the capercaillie Tetrao urogallus in Poland for the period from the end of the 20th century up to 2017−2018 is presented. The capercaillie is a sedentary forest grouse living in old mountain forests and within the boreal zone. Since more than a century, the decrease in the numbers of the species has been observed, interlinked with the extinction of isolated populations. Within the present borders of Poland, a 1925 questionnaire study noted 2200−2700 individuals. In the 1960s, the national population was estimated at 1700−2000 birds, living in five isolated populations. In 1985−1995, the population numbers of the capercaillie dropped to approx. 466−700 individuals in four regions, and in 2000 it was estimated at 470−570 birds. According to the results of the censuses performed in 2017−2018, the size of the capercaillie population risen to 523−631 individuals and 59−69 lekking grounds. Currently the capercaillie occurs in four isolated regions. These are the Western Carpathians (the Beskid Sądecki, Tatry, Gorce, Babia Góra, Beskid Żywiecki, and the Beskid Śląski ranges) where 284−326 individuals live and 35−41 leks are active. In the Solska and the Lasy Janowskie Forests (Lublin region), the population was estimated at 132−184 individuals and 12−13 lekking grounds. In the Augu− stów Forest (Podlasie region) 36−46 individuals and 5−7 leks were found. In the Bory Dolnośląskie Forest, where native capercaillies got extinct during the last decade, the reintroduction program resulted in the rebuilding of their 65−75 population (with 6−7 leks). The restitution of the species in the Piska Forest has begun. During the last 20 years, populations in the Carpathian national parks have been stable, although fluctuating in numbers. The increase in the number of individuals in the Augustów Forest as well as in the Sądecki and Beskid Śląski Mountains is an after−effect of the release of birds from breeding centers or translocations. In other strongholds, fluctuations or decreases have been recorded, including wisible in the Beskid Żywiecki Mountains.

    Opis:
    In 2011–2014, the occupancy of nest-boxes by secondary hole-nesting birds and their breeding success was investigated in pine stands of the Augustów Forest (North-Eastern Poland). In the studied area of 12600 ha, the share of Scots Pine Pinus sylvestris L. in the stands was 92%. On average, birds occupied 54% and bats 3% of the 224–317 nest boxes controlled yearly. Nest boxes were also used by the Pygmy Owl Glaucidium passerinum L. as food caches. In total, broods of nine secondary hole-nesting species were observed, but only four bird species nested in each year of study. The most numerous species, occupying 53–60% of all boxes each year was the Pied Flycatcher Ficedula hypoleuca Pall. The Great Tit Parus major L. occupied 15–24% and the Coal Tit Periparus ater L. 10–12% of available nest-boxes, while the Redstart Phoenicurus phoenicurus L. used 2–7% of nest boxes. The yearly breeding success was highest for tits (Great Tit – 52–84%, Coal Tit – 50–72%) and strongly variable for the Pied Flycatchers – 38–78%. Broods were lost due to predation by martens Martes sp. (38%) and great spotted woodpeckers Dendrocopos major L. (6%) as well as nest competition (2%). The nest-boxes were occupied at a constant rate during the following four years after their exposition. Over 67% of the new nest-boxes were occupied annually which means new nest-boxes (up to 4 years) were occupied significantly more often than boxes older than 4 years.
