Opis:
The study, whose results are presented in the article, was aimed at identifying the structure of the phenomenon so-called late births, which takes place when both parents, at the time of the child’s birth, exceeded the age determining the beginning of – in the case of women – “late motherhood”, and in the case of men – “late fatherhood”. In order to know this issue, the data contained in the Demographic Yearbook (for years 2014–2018) was analyzed. The focus was also on understanding the causes of late births phenomenon and its consequences for the child. For this purpose, an analysis of the content of discussions on four Internet forums (active from 2009–2018) and comments posted on the article on the Internet regarding late motherhood was carried out. It was found out that in the years 2014–2018 the number of late births and their share in the total number of births increased (from 5.27% to 6.72%). Increases in the numbers of late births were noted for each of the fi ve-year age group, particularly clearly in the confi guration: father aged 40–44 and mother 45 and older. The following were recognized as the causes of the phenomenon of late births: postponing the implementation of reproductive plans, conception of a child, hoping that the child will be the guardian of aging parents, long period between attempts to conceive a child and pregnancy. Furthermore, it has also been found that Internet users see more restrictions than advantages of being a child born in the later years of parents’ life.

Late Cretaceous
Opis:
The study area is located in the central part of the Carpathian Foreland in Poland (Fig. 1), and the analysed interval includes mixed carbonate-clastic sediments of the Upper Cretaceous and the uppermost part of the profile of carbonate sediments of the Upper Jurassic. The sedimentation of the studied formations during the Late Jurassic and Cretaceous took place in the shelf zone of the northern, passive margin of the Tethys Ocean. The western Tethys, unlike its eastern margins, was not a single open ocean; rather, it covered many small plates, Cretaceous island arcs and microcontinents (Palcu & Krijgsman, 2023). The spatial range of the subbasins created between these islands was significantly limited, resulting in a large diversity of palaeoenvironments and the mixed carbonate-clastic sediments of a shallow sea. The entire Upper Jurassic to Cretaceous complex can be viewed as a carbonate platform that lasted almost until the end of the Late Cretaceous with an episode of Early Cretaceous erosion. The sedimentary cover formed at that time initially reached considerable thickness (presumably about 2,000 m). Dislocation and bathymetric differentiation within the carbonate platform initiated the development of a complex depositional environment. During the Late Cretaceous, the syndepositional activity of NW-SE dislocation sequences resulted in an extensive flexural deflection within the Upper Jurassic-Lower Cretaceous sedimentary complex and lowermost part of the Upper Cretaceous complex. The resulting accommodation space was filled with a complex of Upper Cretaceous carbonate formations within which there are intervals with a significant share of siliciclastic material. At the end of the Late Cretaceous as well as in the Paleocene, movements of the Laramie phase led to the re-uplift of the analysed part of the Carpathian Foreland. During this tectonic episode, the reactivation of an older fault system occurred, mainly in the NW-SE directions. The Upper Cretaceous formations deposited in the flexural depression underwent a partial inversion and intensive erosion process, lasting until the beginning of the Neogene, which contributed to the reduction of thicknesses or the removal of some of the Upper Cretaceous formations, especially in the areas, adjacent to the major dislocations. The material for analysis consisted of 3D seismic data and geological information from the wells. In the scope of the project, we approached linking 3D seismic image and well data to reconstruct, as detailed as possible, the palaeoenvironment of the studied segment of the Late Cretaceous basin based on the chronostratigraphic method. The analysis shows various palaeomorphological elements that can bring insight into the sedimentation environments (Fig. 2). The significant influence of tectonic processes on the depositional history of the sedimentary basin was also evidenced. The tectonostratigraphic interpretation divided the Late Cretaceous sediments into two different tectonic phases (Łaba-Biel et al., 2023). Analysis of a thick Miocene interval that overlies directly on the Mesozoic formations enabled to reason about the influence of the Alpine orogenesis on the study area that was manifested by the reactivation of major regional faults in the central part of the Carpathian Foreland. This phase is directly related to the stage of progressive closure of the Tethys Ocean due to the collision of tectonic plates.

Late Miocene
Opis:
The Northern Sicilian-Maghrebian Chain courses W-E from the Trapani Mts to the Peloritani Mts and is composed by a set of tectonic units deriving from the Miocene-Pleistocene deformation of the Northern African Continental Margin. Inside it three main geotectonic elements ("external", Sicilide and "Austroalpine") are present and outcrop juxtaposed with a W-E trend. The external element composes the more western Trapani, Palermo and Western Madonie Mts, the Sicilide composes the Eastern Madonie and Nebrodi Mts, while the "Austroalpine" composes the more eastern Peloritani Mts. The orogen shows a culmination in the Trapani Mts and a depression in the Peloritani Mts. The main plicative stages are relatable to late Oligocene-early Miocene from the more internal sectors, while the deformation of the more external sectors starts from early-middle Miocene. The Sicilian chain body is re-involved in tectonism since late Tortonian, which persists until the recent time. During this interval, the deformation of the Sicilian Chain continued by activation of fault systems with different displacements. In the present paper, an important extensional tectonic stage is recognised, starting from the Tortonian; it is supported by structural data and shows through several geological sections across the northern sectors of the Sicilian orogen. This deformation is of exceeded wedge critical taper values, controls the early stages of the Tyrrhenian Basin opening, and is represented by low-angle fault system, producing tectonic omissions in the stratigraphic sequence. The detachment fault system is subsequently displaced by a complicated grid of Plio-Pleistocene net- and strike-slip fault system that controls the genesis of tectonic depressions in the northern off-shore areas of the Sicilian Chain. This neotectonic system may be reconnect to a W-E trending simple shear system, which controls the more recent Tyrrhenian Basin development.

Opis:
The Cínovec (Zinnwald) Sn-W ore deposit is genetically linked to intrusion of late Variscan, highly fractionated granite which expresses the latest evolutionary stage of a volcano-plutonic system of the Teplice caldera. Whole intrusion is relatively highly fractionated and from bottom ( ~ 1500 m) to top part of cupola-shaped deposit is obviously following succession from biotite (annite) granodiorite-granite-zinnwaldite granite, with the partly greisenized uppermost part at 300–500 m depth (Štemprok 1965, 1971). In 1961−63 the Czechoslovakian Geological Survey (CGS) drilled a 1596 m deep borehole in the Sn-W-mineralized Cínovec granite cupola (Štemprok 1965, Štemprok & Šulcek 1969). All studied rock types include W- and Sn-bearing minerals (wolframite series, scheelite and cassiterite) and disseminated accessory Nb-Ta-Ti-W- Sn minerals (Štemprok & Šulcek 1969, Štemprok 1989, Johan and Johan 1994) which were obtained from the collection of CGS in Prague and studied by BSE and electron microprobe. They crystallized in following succession: rutile + columbite + cassiterite (biotite granodiorite) → rutile + columbite + W-rich ixiolite + cassiterite + scheelite in zinnwaldite granite. Textural relationships of these Nb- Ta-Ti-Sn-W minerals indicate predominantly their magmatic origin and part of them (e.g., cassiterite and columbite) show minor post-magmatic alteration phenomena like distinctly inhomogeneous mixtures of secondary pyrochlore-group minerals (“oxykenopyrochlore” and oxycalciopyrochlore). Nb/Ta and Fe/Mn fractionation trends led to characteristic Mn and Ta enrichment from bottom (biotite granite) to uppermost zinnwaldite granite, especially in columbite-group minerals. While Nb/ Ta fractionation is limitedly applied, effective Fe/ Mn fractionation led to significant Mn – enrichment of late-magmatic phases [columbite-(Mn) and W-rich ixiolite]. Post-magmatic to hydrothermal metasomatic fluids caused partial greisenization of the granites and this stage is represented by latest columbite + scheelite + cassiterite + wolframite assemblage. The last two minerals were objects of extensive mining in the past. Although the hydrothermal system was enriched in F and Li (presence of topaz and zinnwaldite), there are only relatively limited Nb/Ta and Fe/Mn fractionations in post-magmatic columbite. Similarly to primary fractionation, both Nb/Ta and Fe/Mn ones take place and overlap characteristic primary Mn-enrichment. Effective Mn-redistribution is predominantly controlled by crystallization of Mn-dominant wolframite like hübnerite in the hydrothermal stage. Scandium is typical rare element in primary (magmatic) and secondary (hydrothermal) mineral assemblage. While primary Sc-fractionation continues the ongoing Sc-enrichment mostly in columbite to uppermost parts of intrusion, the hydrothermal Sc-redistribution is controlled by crystallization of main ore mineral – wolframite, which consumed a major part of scandium. Main substitution mechanisms in rutile-cassiterite-wolframite-columbite assemblage include following heterovalent substitutions: (i) Ti 3 (Fe,Mn) 2+ −1 (Nb,Ta) −2 , (ii) Ti 2 Fe 3+ −1 (Nb,Ta) −1 , (iii) (Nb,Ta) 4 Fe 2+ −1 W −3 . Moreover, a part of minor cations can enter via: (iv) (Fe,Mn) 2+ 1 W 1 (Fe,Sc) 3+ −1 (Nb,Ta) −1 into wolframite lattice, (v) W 1 (Ti,Sn) 1 (Nb,Ta) −2 , (vi) (Sc,Fe) 3+ 3 (Fe,Mn) 2+ −2 (Nb,Ta) −1 , and (vii) W 2 Sc 3+ 1 (Nb,Ta) −3 into columbite lattice. Calculated Fe 3+ can be introduced into rutile lattice predominantly via mechanism (ii), while via (iv) into wolframite lattice and together with Sc 3+ via (vi) into columbite lattice. The last mechanism results in charge imbalance of A and B positions of columbite lattice entering R 3+ cations to. The distinctly varying calculated Fe 3+ values can refer to changing f O 2 during columbite, rutile, W-rich ixiolite and wolframite crystallization. Therefore, the textural and crystallo-chemical features of studied Nb-Ta-Ti-Sn-W oxide minerals in the Cínovec granite cupola reflect a complex geochemical development of this granite system and ore mineralization from primary magmatic stage, through late-magmatic to subsolidus conditions, and ending in distinct hydrothermally – metasomatic overprint of pre-existing phases.

Opis:
The authoress examines the subject of autonomous learning during late adulthood. Referring to the book by Knud Illeris 'Three Dimensions of Learning' and to her own research and didactic experiences, she asks questions about capabilities to learn autonomously during successive stages in the life of an adult, where education, being generally a combination of necessity and capability, is often undertaken as a compromise between one's desires and one's life needs as well as between one's desires and social expectations. The authoress takes particular interest in the period of late adulthood that stretches from the turning point in one's life to the point when one's life comes to an end. According to Knud Illeris it is during this period that an individual is being gradually liberated from the social determinants of learning. In order to explain what this turning point in life may be she refers to the concept of biographical experiencing of floating, proposed by Agnieszka Bron (2006, 2009). The authoress also presents her students' reflections on being autonomous while learning, expressed after the meetings with the members of the University of the Third Age in Zielona Góra. Furthermore, she defines the scope of discourse conducted with the students within the frames of andragogy classes, which was inspired by the questions about autonomy and freedom of learning. In the end, the authoress refers to her own biographical research, which were conducted among part-time students from the borderland region and often focused heavily on education as seen from the point of view of obligation and life necessity.

The article deals with the question of the existence of the Jewish community and the barriers between Jews and non-Jews in the Old Warsaw from the 1420s to the 1520s. The contact points and areas of the two communities, as well as the tools used to communicate between them, are distinguished. Firstly, Jewish property in the space of Old Warsaw, as well as neighbouring and economic contacts, are noticed. Then, the presence of Jews both from Warsaw and other towns and regions in court sessions is analysed. Local and Lithuanian or Volhynian Jews appeared in the Old Warsaw town hall. However, the most important place for official meetings of Warsaw Jews with the Christian community was the court for nobles. It is visible that the first half of the fifteenth century was a unique period with a far-reaching agreement between the Christian inhabitants of Warsaw and its surroundings and the members of the local Jewish community. Within the linguistic area, the communication tools were Polish and German, while Latin, possibly familiar to some Jews, was not a significant communication barrier. Hebrew had its position in the bureaucratic system as well. The protection of the local duke secured a relatively harmonious economic cooperation, which was fostered by the then economic situation of Mazovia. The mid-fifteenth century brought a violent turn, which was influenced by the changes in the political and economic situation, as well as the religious atmosphere. Warsaw burghers started to perceive the Jews as competition, as ‘others’, and began to approach them with growing hostility.

Changes in the occurrence of the initial late blight symptoms have been noted in some regions of Poland. Observations of potato crops showed that occurrence of the primary infections and blight symptoms is sometimes on the stem rather than on the leaves. It was confirmed that in both cases, a cause of late blight was the same species Phytophthora infestans. Surveys of many potato crops done in 1997-1999, around Poland enabled assessment of the incidence of stem blight in Poland. In 1997 - 80.5%, 1998 - 65.2% and in 1999 – 72.4% of observed crops were primary affected with late blight on stems. Stem form of the disease appeared more often in the years with less rainfall in the period from June to July. The largest number of genotypes with initial blight symptoms on stems was observed among first early clones and cultivars. Glasshouse experiments confirmed the importance of stem lesions in decreasing yield and increasing tuber infection. Results confim that blighted tubers were the least probable source of the late blight appearing on stems.

Opis:
The article constitutes a collection of remarks concerning military aspects of the construction and functioning of the Teutonic Order’s castle in Bäslack (Bayselauken, Bezławki) in the last decades of the 14th century. Considerations included in the article refer to opinions expressed by the authors of the collective monograph about the late medieval settlement complex in Bezławki published in 2013. It presents the findings of archeological research in the castle and the village in the years 2008–2012. Remarks presented in the article concern three out of six problems which are considered the most essential. While it goes beyond doubt that the castle played an important defensive role and fulfiled function as a getaway spot, the hypothesis of it being a „fortified camp” for the army troops during military actions of the Teutonic Order against the Lithuanians and Ruthenians has been undermined. It is not possible to consider it to play a military role on a strategic level, as do the authors of the monograph of 2013. In the second part of the article the author undermines the hypothesis about the „system” character of the complexes of fortifications situated on the eastern outskirts of Prussia. If the castle in Bäslack was indeed part of some defensive system, this could operate only on the local level and consist of an insignificant number of elements including longitudinal fortifications constituting the so called „landwere”. The next issue addressed by the author was a problem of the typological character of the term „wildhaus”. As in the 14th century the term connoted the location of the fortification on the edges of the Wildniss-areas, the author shows a far-reaching morphological diversity of fortifications on the eastern outskirts of Prussia, which were or could be classified as „wildhaus”. Thus, a „wildhaus” cannot be classified as a morphological type of a fortification. The typology of fortifications based on the morphological criteria cannot be connected with the typology based on the administrative and terminological criteria. Archeological examination of the Bäslack fortification complex evinces its major cognitive potential and makes us aware of how little is known about the functioning of minor fortifications in late medieval Prussia. Further research in this research field belongs to one of the most important elements of historical science in the Prussian regional dimension and related humanities.

Phosphate nodules of late Burdigalian age are dispersed in a soft, friable packstone matrix within the Irminio Member of the Ragusa Formation. Mineralogical analyses revealed large amounts of calcite (64 to 89 wt. %) and smaller quantities of carbonate-fluorapatite (CFA). P2O5 content was less than 18%. Microtextural observations demonstrated that phosphate precipitation occurred in the microenvironments in the sediment in confined spaces (i.e. cavities, perforations) and not in the shells of microorganisms. The crystals were all of a similarsize (~~1 mm), presented imperfections, and the {0001}CFA and the {1010}CFA forms were clearly apparent. These hexagonal prisms showed reduced growth along their caxis. Our data suggest that bacteria were in volved in the precipitation of CFA.

According to the principles of life-span psychology, development is a lifetime process that lasts from birth to death. It is multi-dimensional in nature and encompasses both progressive and regressive change. The paper focuses on developmental changes typical of the last period of life, and investigates limitations and barriers impeding personal development in the elderly. Personality traits that may prevent positive adaptation to the old age are indicated, together with the opportunities for development in late adulthood and the factors conducive to positive ageing.
