Celem artykułu jest analiza przesłanek skłaniających do określenia paradygmatów dyscypliny nauki o komunikacji społecznej i mediach w kontekście nowej klasyfikacji dziedzin i dyscyplin nauki. Metody badań: Przy założeniu, że w nowej dyscyplinie dominują przedstawiciele dotychczasowej nauki o mediach oraz bibliologii i informatologii istotne jest podjęcie dyskusji tożsamościowej, wyodrębnienie subdyscyplin oraz udoskonalenie narzędzi badawczych. Wyniki i wnioski: W artykule przedstawiono chronologiczny i problemowy zarys rozwoju badań mediów w Polsce, szczególnie po 2011 roku, z uwzględnieniem aktywności Polskiego Towarzystwa Komunikacji Społecznej. Wartość poznawcza: Zwrócono uwagę na potencjał wynikający z połączenia dyscyplin autonomicznych charakteryzujących się multigenetycznością i otwartością.
Scientific objective: The aim of the paper is to analyze the premises that lead to the definition of paradigms of media and social communication in the context of new classifi cation of fields and disciplines of science. Research methods: Assuming that the new discipline is dominated by representatives of the current media science, as well as book studies and information science, it is important to undertake an identity discussion, identify sub-disciplines and improve research tools. Results and conclusions: The paper presents a chronological and problematic outline of the development of media research in Poland, especially after 2011, including the activity of the Polish Society of Social Communication. Cognitive value: Attention is drawn to the potential resulting from the combination of autonomic disciplines characterized by multigenic aspects and openness.

Scientific objective: The thesis of the paper is to confirm the need and the possibility of preserving the specifics of research aimed at book and information in the new classification of science and scientific disciplines by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Poland. Research methods: The method of analysis and criticism of the literature has been used. Results and conclusions: The authors are in favor of preserving the specificity of research focused on a book and information, while looking for a new and common areas and ways to solve research problems in collaboration with researchers representing media and social communication studies. Cognitive value: The paper is included in the scientific discussion initiated by the paper by Marek Jabłonowski and Tomasz Mielczarek “Komunikowanie społeczne i media – federacja, a nie inkorporacja” (Media Studies 2018, 4(75), 13–29) on the new classification of science and scientific and artistic disciplines.

W artykule zaprezentowano wydawnictwo z zakresu biografistyki księgoznawczej pt. Słownik pracowników książki polskiej, realizowane w Uniwersytecie Łódzkim – najpierw w Bibliotece Uniwersyteckiej w Łodzi (od 1958 r.), następnie – w Katedrze Bibliotekoznawstwa i Informacji Naukowej UŁ (od 1992 r.). W latach 1972-2016 ukazał się tom podstawowy Słownika (1972) i cztery suplementy (1986, 2000, 2010, 2016). Redaktorami naukowymi były kolejno: I. Treichel, H. Tadeusiewicz, M. Rzadkowolska. Planowany piąty suplement poprowadzi A. Walczak-Niewiadomska. Edytorem Słownika było Państwowe Wydawnictwo Naukowe (tomy z 1972 i z 1986 r.) i Stowarzyszenie Bibliotekarzy Polskich (tomy z 2000, 2010 i 2016 r.). Autorka omówiła także zakres tematyczny i zasięg chronologiczny Słownika, jego warsztat (publikacje towarzyszące, kartoteki, archiwum); podała ogólna liczbę haseł (4842) i autorów (1100), podkreśliła znaczenie wydawnictwa dla biografistyki księgoznawczej oraz dziejów książki w Polsce.
The article presents the dictionary publication from the field of the book studies’ biographies Słownik pracowników książki polskiej (Biographical Dictionary of the Workers of the Polish Book) prepared in the University of Łódź – first in University Library in Łódź (from 1958) then in the Chair of Library and Information Science UŁ (from 1992). In the years 1972-2016 there were published the core volume of the Biographical Dictionary (1972) and 4 supplements (1986, 2000, 2010, 2016). Their scientific editors were – as follows - I. Treichel, H. Tadeusiewicz, M. Rzadkowolska. The next, planned 5th supplement will be edited by A. Walczak-Niewiadomska. The Dictionary was published by the National Scientific Publishers PWN (volumes from 1972 and from 1986) and The Polish Librarian’s Association (volumes from 2000, 2010 and 2016). The author discussed also subject and chronological scope of the Dictionary as well as its additional sources (associating publications, archive, card file); provided readers with number of its entries (4842) and authors (1100), underlined meaning of the publication for the fi eld of book studies’ biographies and for the book history in Poland.

Wielokanałowy i wielokodowy przekaz masowo generowanych danych i informacji w połączeniu z interdyscyplinarnością opisów procesów komunikowania i oddziaływania informacji rodzi potrzebę interdyscyplinowego spojrzenia na obiekt badania, jakim jest tzw. nadprodukcja informacji i będące jedną z jej konsekwencji przeciążenie informacyjne. Nauki o komunikacji społecznej i mediach mogą wnieść tu szczególny wkład ze względu na swoją „multimodalność” badawczą. W artykule zostaną naszkicowane wymiary i aspekty nadprodukcji informacji badane z perspektywy informatologicznej, a także wypracowane rozwiązania, takie jak na przykład narzędzia do organizacji informacji oraz koncepcja kultury informacyjnej.
The multi-channel and multi-code transmission of mass-generated information, combined with the interdisciplinarity of descriptions of the processes of communication and the information influence on people, makes it necessary to strengthen the need for multidimensional analysis of information overproduction and information overload as research objects. Communication and media studies can make a particular contribution because of their research “multimodality”. The paper outlines the dimensions and aspects of information overproduction and information overload already investigated from the information science perspective. The study also presents the selected solutions such as knowledge organization systems, and information culture concepts.

Praktyki zawodowe są ważnym elementem kształcenia na kierunku informacja naukowa i bibliotekoznawstwo. Istotnie wpływają na poszerzenie kompetencji zawodowych studentów, co w przyszłości decyduje o możliwości ich zatrudnienia. W niniejszym artykule podjęto analizę realizacji praktyk na przestrzeni ostatnich ośmiu lat (2004/2005–2011/2012) w Instytucie Informacji Naukowej i Bibliotekoznawstwa Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego, na podstawie dokumentacji zgromadzonej w instytucie. W analizie brano pod uwagę miejsca praktyk, rodzaje instytucji, w których one przebiegały, oraz opinie opiekunów praktyk i studentów. Przedstawiono także zmiany w programach praktyk, wynikające z wdrażania nowego programu kształcenia w instytucie, opracowanego zgodnie z Krajowymi Ramami Kwalifikacji dla Szkolnictwa Wyższego, oraz ich wpływ na szanse absolwentów na rynku pracy.
Traineeship programs constitute an important element in higher education in research information and librarianship. They significantly influence and improve professional competence of students, which may turn out to be decisive in their prospective employment. The present article attempts to analyze the quality the traineeship program offered by the Institute of Research Information and Librarianship at the Jagiellonian University within the time frame of the past eight years (2004/2005-2011/2012). The analysis is based on the available documentation kept at the institute. The analysis includes a review of the location of placements, types of host institutions and opinions of traineeship programs supervisors and students involved. In addition, the changes introduced to the traineeship program resulting from the implementation of a new curriculum at the institute, devised according to the All-National Framework of Professional Qualifications for higher education institutions, are presented and discussed. The article is concluded with a discussion on the possible influence of traineeship program upon future chances of employment on the labour market.

The article presents fragments of the text by Antoni Wincenty Kwiatkowski (1890-1970) „Theory of psychosphere and its bibliological method” signed with his alias Antoni Starodworski, and being stored in the Hoover Institution Archives, Stanford Unviersity. This is a synthetic monography of a book culture in the USSR in the 20-30s of the 20th century. In the author’s interpretation, theory and practice of book studies agreed with marxist-lenninism ideology was a system of social engineering serving communist indoctrination, upbringing “a Soviet man” (homo sovieticus), as well as development of the communist society and the USSR.

The article reconstructs selected problems of critical and publicistic discussion around Artur Domosławski’s book Kapuściński non-fiction concerning the status of the biographical narrative, the role and duties of the biographer and the limits of biographical disclosures. The themes discussed in this sketch made it possible to indicate current issues related to workshop deficiencies and duties of the contemporary biographer, including the exposition of issues related to modernity, subjectivity and ethics of biographical undertakings.

The article shows the attempt of showing the academic and educational achievements of proffesor`s Rev. John Stawarczyk who was an outstanding biblicist and judaist. He was also a worker of Scientific Department of Catholic Theology at University in Warsaw from 1919 to 1944. He was working on the chronology of Ezdrasz and Nehemiasz`s books. He dealt with language issues of the area Hebrew and Logistics studies and worked on the influence of accent on the change of vowels in Hebrew. He developed the history and the doctrins of the main religious books of Mandayan, analyzing cosmogonies, soteriology, eschatology, moral science and liturgy of the Mandayan gnosis. The purpose of the article is to bring back the memory of Rev. John Stawarczyk, his achievements and contribution to the development of biblical studies of the interwar period.

Departures is the introductory volume to the interdisciplinary field of Critical Refugee Studies, written by the Critical Refugee Studies Collective and published by the University of California Press. The book works on many levels and can be read in as many ways. Partly a guide, partly a manifesto, the book dutifully performs its pre-set task of introducing the general reader to the field of Critical Refugee Studies, all the while engaging with larger issues and challenges. Its manifold nature is made explicit by the title itself, intended both as an allusion to the action of leaving and to that of deviating from a regular path. Highly readable and sharp-edged, tailor-made for an audience that includes (and transcends) colleges and universities, this text will likely find its way into many class syllabi and reading lists. Located at the crossroads of theory and resistance, advocacy and academia, Departures oozes rage, energy, and optimism, and is unapologetically political. The field of Critical Refugee Studies, the authors state in the “Introduction,” is “a way to seize control of image and narrative, by and for refugees, centered in refugee epistemologies and experiences." As a community-engaged critical field, it postulates the necessity of moving past pre-existing humanitarian narratives and frameworks, exposing the underlying threads that tie militarism and migration, power and memory, empire and race. Channeling Somali British and Palestinian poetry, Syrian visual art, and Vietnamese American independent cinematography, the seven contributors call for new methodologies and approaches, as well as for new stories that go beyond the simple “formula of … escape, despair, and rescue” embedded in mainstream refugee narratives. The book's aim is to break that mold, underscoring the “invisible relations of power that broker how we see and consume the refugee subject”; that is to say, to radically twist the ways in which the latter is defined by the law, by the arts, and by the collective conscious. Bold and provocative, Departures will not fail to spark conversations in the coming years.
