Opis:
Pillarization meant the vertical division of society into four confessional and ideological blocs. It functioned from 1917 till the turn of 60’s and 70’s. Due to it, the accommodation of the differences between all segmentsof society took place, in the sequel it succeeded in prevention of possible state’s confl icts. Its development and stability were sheltered. The collapse of this model took place through the processes of modernization and secularization, and some external factors. It was called depillarization. This process was the beginning of gradual decomposition of the pillars.

Opis:
This study gives some insight into the relationships between the spatial environment, firm characteristics and long term existence of firms in the Netherlands. A logit model is employed to investigate the locational difference of firms, considering firm characteristics such as age, size, region and network. The main findings are that (long-term) continuation of the location and firm size are positively associated with long-term existence of firms.

Opis:
According to statistics 160,000 Polish citizens currently live and work in the Netherlands. Half of these Polish migrants live there with their families. In April 2018, 36,000 Polish children lived in the Netherlands. Children and adolescents are required to go to local or international schools. Observing children who lived in the country for a few years and those who have just arrived, we can see recurring problems and issues. Students who do not know the Dutch language go to classes, where they only learn the language for two or three years. Within a few months, children become lazy. The curriculum that they are supposed to master is too simple, posing not enough intellectual challenges. Moreover, the first year in a new school abroad is stressful for children and adolescents. One of the major issues is the fact that teachers do not understand the processes that a child undergoes in the adaptation phase. Many schools also have an issue with the lack of knowledge regarding the development of a bilingual child. To help and support teachers, as well as parents and children, the School at the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in The Hague and the “Kreda” Foundation from Lisse organised the first “Understanding Bilingualism” conference four years ago, inviting teachers and specialists who work with Polish children every day. The conference turned out to be a resounding success and in the following years, three additional editions of the event were organised, devoted to a variety of topics.

The year 2012 marked the 400th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Netherlands and Türkiye. The history of Dutch-Turkish relations presented in the work is a synthetic description of the mutual relations between the two countries. In the political relations between the Republic of the Seven United Netherlands and Türkiye, in addition to the commercial reasons characteristic to the Republic, it was the existence of a common enemy that united the countries, although over the course of four centuries, it was the commercial relations that dominated over the political ones. In the historical outline presented, it can be seen that the activities of the two countries proceeded quite smoothly, however, the recent history may bring a greater number of conflicts related to migration.

The purpose of this paper is to analyse the Dutch electromobility sector in terms of the effectiveness of applying financial incentives and to investigate the hypothesis that the key to using them is not the amount of subsidies for customers to purchase vehicles or to build charging stations, but to properly coordinate time in their application. In addition, the scope of subsidies should be changed from time to time, which will allow the gradual development of various types of electric vehicles. The second hypothesis which will be examined is the claim that the effective use of financial incentives does not necessarily imply a heavy burden on the budgets of central and local administration.

Opis:
Starting from the XIX century migrations have become a mass phenomenon. Cur-rently, they are considered a fundamental value and a human right. The Netherlands occupies an important place among the countries to which Poles emigrate. Over the XX and XXI century, the Polish community in the Netherlands established organizational forms which significantly facilitate the Polish emigrees’ living abroad. The Polish dias-pora in the Netherlands is estimated at around 200 thous. The contemporary Polonia organizations fulfill many functions: they assist, inform, educate, offer cultural activities. The Internet is the main communication instrument for the contemporary Polish diaspora organizations in the Netherlands.

This article discusses signifi cant problems faced by Polish citizens who live in the Netherlands and who declare their willingness to remain there for the coming years despite the unfair treatment directed towards them. The author elaborates on the history of Polish immigrants in the Netherlands after the Second World War in order to: (1) highlight the Poles’ input into the liberation of the Netherlands during the war and the country’s post-war development; and (2) show mutual, ambivalent Polish Dutch relations between the immigrants and the host society. Based on subject literature, Dutch scientific reports, analyses and surveys, the current situation of Poles is described in the light of unchanging and thus relatively similar problems (despite the passage of time) experienced by Poles living and working in the Netherlands.

Artykuł przedstawia postać XVII-wiecznej holenderskiej uczonej, Anny Marii van Schurman, i poddaje analizie jej dysertacje z 1641 roku o dostępie kobiet do edukacji (Dissertatio, de ingenii muliebris ad doctrinam et meliores litteras apitudine). Nie próbowała dyskutować z poglądem o słabości kobiecego umysłu, lecz wykorzystała go, by przekonać najbardziej zatwardziałych przeciwników kształcenia kobiet, wykorzystując ich własne argumenty. Chciała uniknąć posądzeń o skrajny radykalizm obyczajowy, by jej postulaty zostały wysłuchane.
The article presents the figure of the 17th-century Dutch scholar, Anna Maria van Schurman, and analyzes her 1641 dissertation on women's access to education (Dissertatio, de ingenii muliebris ad doctrinam et meliores litteras apitudine). The author primarily aimed to use women's education for the development of religious life. To defend herself against accusations of pride and to convince the public that educated women would not fight for equal rights, she had to fully accept the status of women as being weaker than men. She did not attempt to dispute the notion of the weakness of the female mind but used it to persuade the staunchest opponents of women's education, utilizing their own arguments. She wanted to avoid accusations of extreme moral radicalism so that her proposals would be heard. Far from revolutionary views, she sought to improve women's intellectual condition within the established social order. The analysis of van Schurman's treatise demonstrated that the author aimed to present an educational program that was both progressive and would improve the situation of women's education while also being acceptable to at least part of society.

Opis:
The Netherlands signed the so-called ‘Malta Convention’ in 1992. This event marked the start of major changes in the archaeological sector in The Netherlands. Prior to 2001 only the national government, universities and local municipalities were permitted to perform archaeological excavations. However, in 2001 new temporary rules were introduced allowing commercial archaeological companies to conduct archaeological fieldwork under certain conditions. The entire Archaeological Heritage Management Cycle in The Netherlands consists of a process of stepwise intensification of archaeological work. Excavations (= preservation ex situ) will only be performed if a valuable archaeological site cannot be preserved underground (= preservation in situ). The number of commercial archaeological companies licensed to perform archaeological fieldwork grew steadily over the years. These companies perform a growing proportion of desk research and fieldwork, now accounting for almost 90% of all archaeological research carried out in The Netherlands. In the year 2017, there were 4,225 archaeological projects registered in The Netherlands.

The uncontrolled wave of immigrants to the European Union countries, which reached its peak in 2015, challenged not only the well-established system of asylum policies in the Member States but also revealed the fundamental differences among them concerning the so-called “immigration issue”. The article focuses on the mechanisms and institutions which evolved during the different waves of immigrants in Belgium and the Netherlands. It also looks for an answer to the question: is mass immigration to Europe a threat or an opportunity? Depending on one’s attitude to the topic, the answer may be positive or negative.

The integration of immigrants and refugees (especially since the migration crisis) is at the heart of the world’s socio-political discourse. Acceptance of the arrivals by the receiving societies is nowadays in considerable doubt. The countries of the European Union (especially the so-called old Union) have found themselves at a crossroads. On the one hand, they want to respect their traditions, values such as tolerance and openness to „strangers,” while on the other hand, an alarmingly high percentage of European citizens do not accept the growing number of foreigners (especially those of Muslim origin) within their countries, according to statistical data. The article points out worrying, growing phenomena of racial discrimination, unequal treatment, and exclusion, making it difficult for immigrants and refugees to find themselves in a new reality for them, mainly blocking their integration in the new society.

Quoted examples, diverse in scale – from urban to strictly architectural, are the models of newest landscape design tendencies. Scope and subject-matter of the land revision enables to assert that both – new urban and cultural landscapes – are designed simultanously in The Netherlands. looking at transformed and artificial landscape of Holland, one can understand the need of its restoration or from the start design. New largescale urban investments in The Netherlands are outstanding examples of hi-density housing structures and are worth paying attention to.

Opis:
The Netherlands is a country with traditions of both emigration and immigration. There are others in the common crucible of culture: migrants from former colonies (Indonesians, Surinams), economic migrants from the time of the economic boom in Europe in the ‘60s (Turks, Moroccans, the people of the former Yugoslavia, Italians, Spaniards), migrant workers from the European Union (Poles, Slovaks, Romanians, Bulgarians), highly qualifi ed employees of international organizations, managers of international companies, academic staff and finally the musicians and painters here who have chosen this as their place to live. The choice of this country as a case study of migratory phenomena is, therefore, by all means justifi ed. It is most interesting to look into Dutch society and see which groups of foreigners have settled in it and how they are perceived. The intent of this article is to pay special attention to the Poles who, in large numbers, after Poland’s accession to the European Union and upon access being granted to them to the Dutch labour market, chose this particular country as a “new home” for a shorter or longer period of time.
