Opis:
The article found that the Ukrainian diaspora was an integral component of Ukrainian ethnic integrity. Numerous public, cultural and educational institutions created by emigrants in their places of residence stood guard over Ukrainian national interests and, despite all obstacles, conducted fruitful cooperation with Ukrainians in the Motherland. In order to preserve and develop the Ukrainian language, representatives of the diaspora paid great attention to the release of the Ukrainian printed word into the world. Due to total censorship in the Ukrainian SSR, Ukrainians abroad contributed to the publication abroad of many Ukrainian works that were banned in Ukraine. By means of international tourism, international student exchange, and world radio broadcasting, contacts between Ukrainian and foreign youth were gradually established, and the spheres of communication expanded. The main task of the Ukrainian diaspora was to preserve the ethnic and cultural identities of the Ukrainian nation, and consolidate the scattered emigration forces for the sole purpose of preparing a political and professional basis for the acquisition of an independent, cathedral Ukrainian state.

Opis:
Language in human civilization as a part of political, cultural and social life is an irreplaceable communicator. Ethnically language expresses facts, events, people and time. It saves and transports stylistic phenomena of language with new thinking constructs of vision, with traditional and original stylistics of folk and literary speech. This peculiarity of language is manifested in its linguistic cultures – the linguistic conceptualization signs (units) of creative, cultural content in broad sense, cultural phenomena, cultural notions and nominations, knowledge of ideologies, individuals, events, facts and epochs. The existing state of cultural consciousness includes, in addition to the modern ideologues, the inheritance of social, aesthetic and ethical culture of the previous ages of the ethnos development. It is displayed in verbal codes in the form of lexical-grammatical semantics of linguistic units of all speech levels: phonosemantics, lexicology, phraseology, grammar, word formation, syntax, linguistic, linguistic communication, text formation, linguoculture. Purpose. The aspirations of the authors to show language communication and cultural cooperation of Polish and Ukrainian scientific figures of culture in the past for the benefit of our nations, to motivate younger generation to a common cultural work have been the subjects of our linguistic style study. Methods. The descriptive method makes it possible to carry out a description of the textual material; historical and philological commentary explains the philological sense in the historical context; with the help of linguistic and linguocultural analysis of literary texts, we define stylistics and linguocultures that have a conceptual value in the studied samples. Results. The general conclusion may be the fact of the recognition of the extremely important role of numerical inter-language and intercultural contacts between Ukrainians and Poles in the past and the projections of their future development. In today's turbulent world, which is undergoing regular attacks in an undeclared information war, friendly contacts and mutual understanding between our peoples depend to a large extent on knowledge and appreciation of the road of understanding they have gone through. Polish-Ukrainian relations have been experiencing different, more and less successful periods, but in the perspective of the historical development of the two modern European powers, bright future based on mutual understanding, mutual respect and mutual assistance is seen – this implies future directions of research.

The article is devoted to the structural basics of The Large Polish‑Ukrainian Phraseological Dictionary. Until recently, there had been no significant bilingual phraseological dictionary, which had made it difficult to comparatively study the phraseological systems of Polish and Ukrainian. The dictionary is based on lexicographic publications of various types, national language corpuses, and content. The article explains the principles of selecting phraseological units for the dictionary. Some phraseological units/idioms became the subject of lexicographic study for the first time. In detail is described the structure of the word explanations. During the selection of Ukrainian equivalents to the Polish output, taken into account is the fact that there are phraseological interlanguage homonyms – phraseological units/idioms that sound the same or similar in the two languages but that have different meanings. The dictionary contains an alphabetical register that includes all the components of the expressions/units. Thanks to such referencing, the reader can find the appropriate phrases in a single one word. The article describes the possibilities for the theoretical and applied solutions in the dictionary’s composition.

Opis:
There are three traditional foundation or pillars of Ukrainian national identity; language, religion and social memory but religion is the most important. It is connected in special way with the Orthodox Church and its role to the preservation and reconstruction that identity. Interviews conducted among Orthodox Church priests working in the decanates of Olsztyn, Elbląg and Węgorzewo and other researches make clear that religion is the real value of native ethnic culture and center of Ukrainian national consciousness. Social and cultural role of Orthodox parish churches in the Ukrainian community refers also to the situation before 1947 i.e. deportation Ukrainians on Wamia and Mazury. History and memory of the polish-ukrainian borderland show that among principles of coexistence of Poles and Ukrainians religion and church were the most important. Now significance of religion in processes of identification is also recognized. It seems that future existence of Ukrainian diaspora in Warmia and Mazury depends on religion. It means that the range of the assimilation processes will depend not only on rate of conversional and mixed marriage but also on different forms of secularization. Religious institutions are connected with political; Ukrainian Orthodox Church which gained full political and cultural rights after 1989 increased his social and cultural activity to become the most important institution of presentation of ethnic group interests.

The purpose of this article is to present a way of showing loneliness in two separate literary works. In the novel, The Solitude of Wolves by Marek Harny, the main character is Marek Nowicki. The discourse on the individualʼs loneliness towards traumatic experiences with wolves related to their childhood and for the Polish-Ukrainian conflict of the twentieth century is taken into account. A similar theme is included in the title reportage – The Wolf Hunter – written in the form of a literary duo by Christoph Ransmayr and Martin Pollack. Such a report shows the experience of loneliness and helplessness of the Ukrainian, Vasil Borsuk, against the resettlement campaign called “Vistula”. The next part of the article presents a historical outline of the Polish-Ukrainian conflict in the Bieszczady Mountains as well as the aspects of characters’ life resulting from this conflict which make up the loneliness experienced by them. In addition, attempts have been made to prove that wolves which are inseparably connected with the lives of characters, are not just a background to the events of their lives, but constitute a kind of allegory of their fate.

Opis:
The article analyzes the works of economists who deal with the impact of COVID-19 on the economic development of European countries. The COVID-19 pandemic has already inflicted severe damage on the Ukrainian economy despite relatively mild public health implications so far. The authors analyzed the impact of COVID-19 on the activities of certain sectors of the Ukrainian economy, namely: catering, real estate, the judiciary and more. The direct impact of the pandemic on the economy has been channelled through stopped domestic economic activity in sectors affected by the shutdown, as well as lower demand for Ukrainian exports and lower remittances from abroad. Travel restrictions almost completely stopped local and international tourism. Second round effects stem from reduced household income, redirection of government spending and disruption of investment plans of companies, resulting in lower demand for a wide range of goods and service. For example, reduced electricity demand caused disruptions in energy system balance and lower demand for coal. “Forecast for 2020–2021” has been proposed, developed by experts on the basis of generalized consensus assumptions obtained from the results of the survey. The position of the Union of Ukrainian Entrepreneurs on reducing the tax burden on Ukrainian enterprises during the COVID-19 pandemic and the need to implement radical measures to support business has been revealed. The author has identified short- and medium-term measures that can improve the financial situation of the business after their release from quarantine. Several scenarios for overcoming the post-crisis period for the Ukrainian economy have been proposed.
Ograniczenia w podróżowaniu prawie całkowicie zatrzymały turystykę lokalną i międzynarodową. Ujawniono stanowisko Związku Ukraińskich Przedsiębiorców w sprawie zmniejszenia obciążeń podatkowych ukraińskich przedsiębiorstw w czasie pandemii COVID-19 i konieczności podjęcia radykalnych działań wspierających biznes.

Jednocześnie cenne dokumenty dotyczące działalności ukraińskiej emigracji politycznej i stosunków polsko-ukraińskich, w szczególności relacji S. Petlury z J. Piłsudskim, są przechowywane w polskich instytucjach, przede wszystkim – Archiwum Akt Nowych, Centralnym Archiwum Wojskowym, Bibliotece Narodowej w Warszawie, Zakładzie Narodowym im. Ossolińskich we Wrocławiu. Wszystkie zachowane dokumenty mają istotny potencjał źródłowy do badań procesów formacji państwa ukraińskiego, walki o niepodległość, a także dogłębnej analizy relacji polsko-ukraińskich w okresie międzywojennym.
The article analyzes the composition of the Ukrainian political emigration’s archival collections in the interwar period in Poland, traces the ways of their displacements during the Second World War, and determines its current storage locations and source potential for studying the problems of the political and military history of Ukraine as well as Polish-Ukrainian relations. It is defined that after the defeat of the Ukrainian War of Independence 1917-1921 valuable political and military archives were repatriated to Poland where they were preserved in the emigration centers established by the UNR Government in Tarnow, Сzestochowa and partly in Warsaw. During the occupation of Poland by Nazi Germany, the archives of the UNR Directorate were repatriated to Krakow, and eventually, they came into the possession of Soviet security services that resulted in moving the archives to the USSR. As a consequence, these archives were classified for security reasons and stored in archival special fonds. Moreover, valuable documents that describe the activity of the Ukrainian political emigration and Polish-Ukrainian relationship, particularly the relations between Symon Petlura and Josef Pilsudski, can be found in the fonds of Polish institutions, such as Archiwum Akt Nowych, Сentralne Archiwum Wojskowe, National Library of Poland / Biblioteka Narodowa in Warsaw and the National Ossolinski Institute in Wroclaw. In Ukraine, the most considerable segment of the UNR emigration collections is presented nowadays by the fonds of the Central State Archive of Supreme Authorities and Governments of Ukraine in Kyiv. These documents have an important source potential for describing the processes of the Ukrainian state formation, struggles for independence along with detailed research of Polish-Ukrainian relations during the interwar period. The author states the relevance of preparing an electronic registry of Ukrainian emigration archival collections with the characterization of the content of collections, location of their creation, transportation routes, and their current location. It would embrace the research along with including the documents to the scientific narrative.

A. Krymsky and S. Yefremov, today recognized as the superlative of Ukrainian lexicography of the 20-30’s of the 20th century, and which is becoming even more relevant today. The value of the АСI consists in the fact that it contains materials IV volume of the «Russian-Ukrainian Dictionary» destroyed in 1933. For the first time since the 1930’s ACI became the object of scientific attention precisely as materials of the repressed Commission, for more than half a century they were considered lost. ACI digital format is needed in order to prevent its physical decay, to return to the linguistic-cultural process, to optimize research work. After all, ACI contains professionally processed linguistic sources of general dictionaries first half XXth century, which are of great value for the restoration of the authenticity of Ukrainian language thinking, to eliminate the prolonged russification of Ukrainian vocabulary and the creation of dictionaries of the Ukrainian language of the 21th century.

his article offers a new analysis of Ivan Harayda’s Grammar of the Ruthenian Language (Hramatyka rus’koho yazyka”) (Uzhhorod 1941). In contrast to its program, the grammar paid little tribute to the “popular” language as such. As Harayda himself regarded his text as a “compromise between many contradictory opinions regarding our popular language” he included only a few “popular” elements. Most of them were part of the written heritage that united Transcarpathia with other parts of the Ukrainian language area, particularly Galicia. Harayda often failed to clarify what he regarded as standard features. He also explicitly excluded some local features from the standard. Harayda’s grammar can barely be regarded as a successful attempt at the codification of the “Rusyn” language in the modern understanding.

Ethnopolitics of the Ukrainian State (April–December 1918) has for a long period of time remained beyond the scope of historical-political research. The purpose of this article is to draw attention to the policy of the Ukrainian authorities towards national minorities in Ukraine. By relying on little-known historical sources and summarizing the elaborations of various scientists, the author tried to show how the ethnonational policy was really being implemented in the Ukrainian State and why the Ukrainian-Russian relations had become a decisive factor in interethnic processes. Furthermore, at the beginning of the XXI century the interethnic and interstate relations of Ukraine continue to remain relevant.

The article deals with the history of competition and standardization between the variants од‑/ від‑ (both as preposition and prefix) in the Ukrainian language. Historically they are related to different groups of dialects. In the southwestern dialectal zone, with the exception of the northern dialects of the Volyn and Carpathian areas, the variant від‑ prevails, while the variant од‑ is predominant in the north of the country. The variant од‑ was typical for standard Ukrainian of the 19th‑early 20th century. After a period of competition with від‑ it lost out because of the artificial limitation of its use. This happened in the early 20th century due to the desire to employ forms that would give the literary language a national character, since the від‑ variant is notably different from both Polish and Russian. The history of од‑/ від‑ competition is investigated on the material of dictionaries, 1920s’ grammars and modern linguistic research. The history of од‑/ від‑ preposition and prefix variants was researched as well within the Ukrainian language corpus, which includes texts from the 19th to the 21st centuries. Shown are the points of variation related to regional and chronological properties, to authors’ individual preferences and to certain lexemes.

Opis:
The outbreak of World War II found the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN) divided into two fractions: the supporters of Stepan Bandera and those of Andrij Melnyk. The conflict was based on differences on the strategy of struggle for independence as well as on the generation conflict. Bandera, representing young national activists, was of the opinion that OUN's actions in the lands occupied by the Soviets should be intensified, and its politics should be independent of any outer factors. Melnyk, in turn, who managed the OUN's Prowid, (Leadership) was supported by Ukrainian emigration circles – by veterans of World War I and of struggle for independence of the years 1917-1921. He represented the conservative wing, opting for a closer collaboration with the Third Reich, in whose politics he saw the factor that could change the Versailles order. In the years 1940-1941 the final split happened in the OUN. Two organizations emerged, which started fighting each other: OUN-M [supporters of Melnyk] and OUN-B [supporters of Bandera]. Despite the differences concerning the strategy, both the fractions collaborated to a varying degree with the Germans, getting their support for their own initiatives on the self-government, cultural, economic and military planes. Both Bandera's and Melnyk's groups treated the German aggression on the USSR as a breakthrough in their attempts to regain independence. However, too much activity, as well as too much autonomy in them, especially on the side of Bandera's camp, that exceeded the limits set by the German leaders, led to a change in German policy towards the Ukrainian nationalists and to use of repressions against them. This, in turn, made the two fractions pass to the underground, which starting from 1942 assumed the form of resistance movement. The greatest achievement of the nationalist resistance movement was forming the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) that ultimately was controlled by OUN-B. UPA started to fight at the same time the German occupational troops, the Soviet guerillas and the Polish underground forces striving after independence. OUN-B and UPA are also responsible for mass murders they committed on Polish inhabitants of Volhynia and Eastern Galicia. Starting with 1943 the nationalist movement represented by OUN-B and OUN-M started slowly to depart from extreme nationalism and the fascist principle of leadership, accepting the rules of pluralism and democracy.
