Inspired and led by Dr. Gregory E. Kersten, a number of research projects have been conducted at the InterNeg Research Centre. This paper intends to acknowledge Dr. Kersten’s unique role as a pioneer in e-negotiation research, particularly in exploring and integrating various elements in e-negotiations. From the design science research perspective, this paper reviews a series of relevant research works in e-negotiation modeling, system design and development, and experimental studies. This provides an integrative view of interconnected elements in this field, and also helps framing the various studies into different aspects and stages of e-negotiation research. The paper then suggests several guidelines and directions for future design science research in e-negotiations.

The paper is devoted to the description of the methodology and research by design carried out to identify solutions enhancing the functional flexibility of a high-rise building located in Warsaw at. Grzybowska Street. The work presents the theoretical background as well as the conducted research and methodology. The scope of solutions related to functional flexibility concerned the interchangeability of service functions in the podium part of the building, changes in the use of the parking lot, and the provision of the means of changes in the arrangement of types and variants of types of apartments on the apartments levels. The investigation was carried out in the pre-design and design phases. Objectives and criteria of solutions were defined, and research works were carried out through iterations and checking in terms of the cost-effectiveness . The adopted solutions consist in designing the optimal hard portion of the building - the core, the structural system, the arrangement of zones and installation rooms, and the use of structural and spatial over-designed systems. An optimal facade module has been developed. The research aims to introduce the design practice to the issue of flexibility, which is nowadays important for economic and environmental reasons.
Tekst poświęcony jest opisowi metodologii oraz badań przez projektowanie służących określeniu rozwiązań sprzyjających elastyczności funkcjonalnej budynku wysokościowego położonego w Warszawie przy ul. Grzybowskiej. Praca przedstawia tło teoretyczne oraz prowadzone badania i ich metodologię. Zakres rozwiązań związanych z elastycznością funkcjonalną dotyczył wymienności funkcji usługowych w części podium budynku, zmian użytkowania parkingu oraz zapewnienia możliwości zmian w układzie typów i wariantów typów mieszkań na piętrach. Prace badawcze prowadzono w fazach: przedprojektowej i projektowej. Określono cele i kryteria rozwiązań oraz prowadzono prace badawcze poprzez iteracje i sprawdzanie pod względem opłacalności rozwiązań. Przyjęte rozwiązania polegają na zaprojektowaniu optymalnej części stałej budynku - trzonu, układu konstrukcyjnego, rozmieszczenia stref i pomieszczeń instalacji oraz zastosowanie naddatków konstrukcyjnych i przestrzennych. Wypracowano optymalny moduł fasadowy. Badania mają na celu przybliżyć praktyce projektowej problematykę elastyczności które współcześnie jest istotna ze względów ekonomicznych i środowiskowych.

Many researchers argue that the analysis process of any narrative and biographical inquiry is a delicate, arduous and complex stage and requires creativity, advanced skills and the technique of the researcher. This research note, based on a research project carried out in Spain, makes a unique contribution to this debate by reflecting about the Cross-Narrative Model, whose father was Lewis (1973), introducing two concepts: Biographical Units and the Analysis Units. Furthermore, it describes the analysis process laying emphasis on the particular methodological challenges and possible benefits of using these units to build up a two-part biographical account. This research note concludes that the use of the Cross-Narrative Analysis model could be considered as a possible alternative to the on-going discussion on advancing the rigorous and resourcefulness narrative qualitative analysis endeavour.

Purpose: The study reported in this article sought to examine the current state of Botutonuo Beach in the Province of Gorontalo, Indonesia, and develop a digital-based marketing strategy that allows attractions of the beach to be open to potential worldwide tourists. The beach is a popular tourist destination in the province, yet limited information about the beach is available online. Design/Method/Approach: A design-based research method was employed in the study. To collect data, observations and semi-structured interviews with four locals who were also organizing the beach were used; while for the analysis, a thematic analysis approach was utilized. Findings: Findings revealed three main themes that best describe aspects of Botutonuo Beach tourism sites that need improvement, namely accessibility, facilities, and convenience, as well as showed what important information that needs to be included on the beach website. Practical Implications: It is expected that the website can be used by the beach management and local government to foster the promotion of Botutonuo Beach. It is also hoped that the findings, in general, may encourage active participation by the beach visitors and local government to ensure effective management of the beach so that national and international recognition can be obtained. Originality/Value: The study proposed development of a website that helps in promoting Botutonuo Beach as one of the popular tourist destinations in Gorontalo. Research Limitations/Future Research: Future research examining the efficacy of this website development is a potential research topic to undertake. Botutonuo Beach is a popular tourist destination in the Province of Gorontalo, Indonesia. The locals have primarily been managing the beach for years; however, very little information can be elicited about it online by target visitors from other regions. Therefore, the study reported in this article sought to examine the beach’s current state and develop a digital-based marketing strategy that allows attractions of the beach to be open to potential worldwide tourists. Using a design-based research method, data were collected using observations and semi-structured interviews with four locals who were also organizing the beach. To analyze data, a thematic analysis was used. Findings revealed that several things related to accessibility, facilities, and convenience were crucial aspects to be considered by the beach management. Furthermore, developing a website that helps the management promote the beach’s uniqueness is necessary. The study suggests that the locals, visitors, and government share the responsibility to ensure more effective beach management.
Мета роботи: Дослідження, про яке йдеться в цій статті, спрямоване на вивчення поточного стану пляжу Ботутонуо в провінції Горонтало, Індонезія, та розробку маркетингової стратегії на основі цифрових технологій, яка дозволить відкрити атракції пляжу для потенційних туристів з усього світу. Пляж є популярним туристичним напрямком у провінції, проте в Інтернеті доступна обмежена інформація про нього. Дизайн / Метод / Підхід дослідження: У дослідженні було застосовано дизайн-метод дослідження. Для збору даних використовувалися спостереження та напівструктуровані інтерв'ю з чотирма місцевими жителями, які також займалися організацією пляжу; для аналізу використовувався підхід тематичного аналізу. Результати дослідження: Виявлено три основні теми, які найкраще описують аспекти туристичних об'єктів пляжу Ботутонуо, що потребують покращення, а саме: доступність, зручності та зручності, а також показано, яку важливу інформацію необхідно включити на веб-сайт пляжу. Практична цінність дослідження: Очікується, що веб-сайт може бути використаний керівництвом пляжу та органами місцевого самоврядування для сприяння просуванню пляжу Ботутонуо. Також є надія, що отримані результати, в цілому, можуть сприяти активній участі відвідувачів пляжу та місцевої влади для забезпечення ефективного управління пляжем, щоб отримати національне та міжнародне визнання. Оригінальність / Цінність дослідження: Дослідження запропонувало розробку веб-сайту, який допоможе у просуванні пляжу Ботутонуо як одного з популярних туристичних напрямків у Горонтало. Обмеження дослідження / Майбутні дослідження: Майбутні дослідження, що вивчають ефективність розробки цього веб-сайту, є потенційною темою для проведення досліджень. Пляж Ботутонуо – популярне туристичне місце в провінції Горонтало, Індонезія. Місцеві жителі в основному керують пляжем протягом багатьох років; однак, дуже мало інформації про нього можна отримати в Інтернеті для цільових відвідувачів з інших регіонів. Тому дослідження, про яке йдеться в цій статті, мало на меті вивчити поточний стан пляжу та розробити маркетингову стратегію на основі цифрових технологій, яка дозволить відкрити пам'ятки пляжу для потенційних туристів з усього світу. Використовуючи дизайн-метод дослідження, дані були зібрані за допомогою спостережень та напівструктурованих інтерв'ю з чотирма місцевими жителями, які також займаються організацією пляжу. Для аналізу даних було використано тематичний аналіз. Результати показали, що деякі речі, пов'язані з доступністю, зручностями та зручностями, є вирішальними аспектами, які слід враховувати керівництву пляжу. Крім того, необхідна розробка веб-сайту, який допоможе керівництву просувати унікальність пляжу. Дослідження припускає, що місцеві жителі, відвідувачі та уряд поділяють відповідальність за забезпечення більш ефективного управління пляжами.

This study analyses the cognitive activation through mathematics tasks in the context of the centralised examination- Zentrale Pr¨ufung 10 (ZP 10) – administered in North-Rhine Westphalia. Cognitive activation, here, is understood as being one characteristic within a range of curricular, content-related and cognitive categories that can potentially be activated in the course of the solution process of a given task. Here, it is fundamental to first consider obligatory curricular standards as well as to categorise mathematics tasks in terms of their function. This first section is then followed by the analysis of the cognitive requirements of the complete set of test tasks used between 2007 (introduction of ZP 10) and 2016 (N = 1706).

Research work in graphic design have become a quintessential element of the design process, particularly in those cases when the explicit role of the consumer must be taken into account. The research in design helps to discover and to create the knowledge by pushing in a particular direction. These processes are systematic and conscious approach to solve a posted problem. There are two kinds of research in this aspect: the bibliographic research to retrieve sources of existing knowledge, and the empirical research to create the new knowledge. The methodology of research depends on the needs and the character of the projects, while the research goals remain unchanged in both cases. The most important goals are: information retrieval and gathering, specification of design problems, answering questions, systematic verification of assumptions and hypotheses. Research allows building robust design tools and effective solution synopsis or suggestion.

Celem artykułu jest zaprezentowanie rozwiązania dla przedsiębiorstw, wspomagającego zarządzanie kompetencjami. W artykule skupiono się na aspekcie związanym z organizacją prac w zakresie badań, projektowania, wdrażania i doskonalenia (rozwoju) systemu informatycznego System Zawodowcy. Prezentację sześcioletnich prac poprzedzono syntetycznym przybliżeniem problematyki zarządzania kompetencjami. Artykuł jest adresowany do zespołów projektowych, w skład których wchodzą pracownicy naukowi, a dodatkowo do przedstawicieli przedsiębiorstw, zwłaszcza z działów HR. System Zawodowcy (SZ), jako innowacyjne rozwiązanie metodyczne, organizacyjne i systemowe, stanowi przykład efektu działań badawczo-rozwojowych. Może być przykładem dobrych praktyk do wykorzystania przez naukowców, których celem jest nie tylko prowadzenie badań naukowych, ale również wypracowywanie rozwiązań, które mogą być wykorzystywane w praktyce.
The aim of this article is to present a solution for entrepreneurs, which supports the management of competences. It is focused on aspects of work organization in the fields of research, design, implementation and development of an IT system – System for Professionals. A summary of six years of work is preceded by a synthetic presentation of competence management issues. This article is directed at project teams, which consist of researchers, and at entrepreneur representatives, especially from HR departments. System for Professionals, an innovative, methodical, organizational and systemic solution is an example of a result of research and development activities. It serves as an example of good practices, which can be used by researchers whose aim is not only to conduct scientific research, but also to create solutions which can be used in practice.

Introduction. In recent years the irreproducibility of preclinical studies has become a serious concern in drug developmental research. The findings of preclinical studies that cannot be reproduced are a drain on public resources and slow down the drug discovery process. Among the various factors that contribute to irreproducibility in preclinical drug developmental research, poor statistical analysis and weak experimental design play a major role in the failure of drugs in clinical research. Objective. The aim of this review is to describe key factors, such as poor statistical analysis and weak experimental design, that contribute to the irreproducibility of preclinical studies in drug development, and how such studies slow down the drug development process. Brief description of the state of knowledge. The irreproducibility of preclinical research is a serious issue that researchers, especially those who are involved in drug discovery, are facing today. The irreproducibility of research drains public resources, time, and diminish the trust of the common man in the research community. The factors that contribute to the irreproducibility of preclinical research are related to experiment design and improper statistical analysis of the experimental data. Most of these factors can be eliminated by researchers developing a commitment to science and society. Conclusion. Poor experimental design and lack of knowledge or limited knowledge of statistical analysis of data contribute significantly to the irreproducibility of preclinical research. A well-designed experiment with proper statistical analysis of data conducted by committed researchers rarely fails to reproduce.

The text concerns the potential area of cooperation between anthropologists, architects and local community, who lives in space that is to be projected. The city of Łódź faces several urban, economic and political obstacles and problems. The article presents the project, the aim of which was to show that the architecture as a discipline should care about the users of space and ask them about their needs and make them the members of a revitalization project. Therefore, cultural anthropology with its fieldwork methodology is a chance to hear what the people say about the place where they live or would like to live. The authors plan to conduct action research among the inhabitants of Łódź’s backyards and to create a participatory design, which is also aiming at improving civil attitudes.

Wraz z rozwojem światowej sieci www tworzonych jest coraz więcej aplikacji internetowych o różnorakim charakterze - od czysto rozrywkowych, poprzez serwisy społecznościowe, na rozbudowanych systemach bazodanowych skończywszy. Warto jednak zauważyć, te nieintuicyjny interfejs użytkownika może okazać się o wiele większą przeszkodą dla niedoświadczonego użytkownika niż błędy w kodzie. Niniejszy artykuł stanowi próbę analizy metodyk wykorzystywanych do badania jakości użytkowej interfejsów aplikacji internetowych oraz stworzenia ich spójnego zbioru.
Along with the development of the World Wide Web, more and more web applications are being built - from entertainment, through social networking to complex professional database systems. However it should be noted, that non-intuitive user interface may be a bigger obstacle for an inexperienced user than errors in the code. This article attempts to analyze the methods used for testing the usability of web application interface and tries to built their coherent set.

Technology research, design, and development is confronted with rapidly advancing digitalization in two respects: (1) digitally supported or enabled technologies need to be designed and developed, and (2) the respective R&D processes themselves will happen in a much more digitalized environment. Technology design generally must take into account the values involved and possible consequences of the development and use of the resulting products, services, and systems. In a digitalizing environment, the issue of values gains even more significance because more and more close and intimate interfaces between humans and technology have to be shaped. Designing human-machine interfaces is not only a functional issue but touches upon ethical questions such as the distribution of responsibility, but also upon anthropological issues related to the human self-image and ideas about future society as well. In the respective research, design, and development processes, value-laden issues such as control, privacy, empathy, responsibility, and accountability must be taken into account beyond technical issues of efficiency and reliability. The need for designing and shaping digital future technologies involving ethics and technology assessment will be demonstrated by three examples: future industrial production and the fields of self-driving cars and care robots. Value sensitive design and responsible research and innovation will be introduced as approaches to deal with these challenges.

Introduction/background: One of the strategic tools used by organisations is design management. In this approach, user needs are the major focus, which helps organisation face the changes resulting from turbulent conditions. In this article, the role of a conscious design perspective in a sample organisation was identified with regard to management, work model, and cooperation with end users.Aim of the paper: The aim of the paper is to identify and define the role of design management in a selected organisation which adapts to changes resulting from turbulent circumstances.Materials and methods: The paper has been prepared based on relevant literature and empirical research. The method of an individual case study has been applied.Results and conclusions: Design management is still at the development stage. It fulfils various roles in organisations, depending on the implementation level. The research results suggest that the most important method of tackling challenges, whether those typical of turbulent environments or the so-called black swans (e.g. the Covid-19 pandemic), is to validate the company’s vision in the light of user needs by means of user research. The influence of particular elements of design management on the organisation has been analysed as well. The example presented in the analysis confirms the results of the study, which indicates that the use of design enables companies to change limitations into opportunities.

Road safety was and still is one of the real hazards for human society all over the world. In order to manage the problem of excessive road death toll at the both sides of Atlantic two independent initiatives were started in 1970 in the USA in the US Department of Transportation. The paper describes the genesis of intergovernmental European initiative named EEVC, its history, participants and scope of former and current scientific research related to improvements in vehicle design safety. The work was started from the careful analysis of accident statistics data including the severity of accident. The important feature of EEVC working groups is participation of car industry researchers enabling wide verification of scientific achievements. For specific items, it is also shown the practical profit based on knowledge coming from EEVC research. Most important items resolved by EEVC were in-depth study of multidirectional impact mechanics, development of anthropometric dummies, pedestrian safety, passive/active safety interaction, rear under run protection etc. The influence of change in vehicle design appears important for all road users the vulnerable persons including. The relation to other similar international initiatives was pointed together with the future direction of activity and relation to National and International (UN ECE and EC) legislative bodies. The Polish input to EEVC research was described since in 2002 Poland started its participation.
