Opis:
The article is devoted to the «ruscism» – the political neologism that arose at the beginning of the 21st century to denote the quasi-ideology and social practice of the modern political regime in the Russian Federation. Key definitions of the proposed article are «ideology» as a system of beliefs and ideas, views on society and its political life, that reflects ideals, worldview, interests, mindset of people, social classes, political parties, social movements, and also includes values, normative and target tendencies and the ways of their achievement, in particular its modern concept of «expanding» (according to T. Parsons) that is being interpreted as a particular society’s system of values that is serving the universal orientation for the socio-political activities; «quasi-ideology» in the sense of «false», «imaginary» ideology and an eclectic synthesis of certain postulates; «ruscism» as the unofficial name of the quasi-ideology and social practice of the ruling regime in the Russian Federation at the beginning of the 21st century, which is an eclectic mix of imperial neo-colonialism, great-power chauvinism, nostalgia for the Soviet past, religious traditionalism, and acts as an identification mechanism within the system (recognition of «friends» and «enemies»), engagement (attracting of the new «friends»), and legitimization of conditional offenders on which all kinds of freedom supporters make claims. The author relies on a wide range of approaches to the definition of the semantic and ideological content of the «ruscism» by Russian scholars and political analysts who represent a predominantly critical view of the current political regime of the Russian Federation (S. Belkovsky, L. Gudkov, A. Melnikov, A. Piontkovsky, A. Skobov), political and military figures of the post-Soviet space (Sh. Basayev, J. Dudayev), Ukrainian researchers (O. Grinov, O. Kaftan, O. Kostenko, O. Leusenko, V. Tkachenko, M. Tomenko and etc.), expresses own opinion regarding this phenomenon. It is stated that the manifestation of «ruscism» in the domestic policy is the violation of human rights for freedom of thought, the persecution of dissidents, the use of mass media for misinformation of the own society and the neglect of democratic procedures. In foreign policy «ruscism» manifests itself in violation of the international law principles, the imposition of the world’s own version of historical truth, the justification of the barbarian geopolitics of the Russian Federation aimed at occupation and annexation of the other states’ territories based on the local cooperation and support of the Russian fifth columns. Nowadays «ruscism» acts as the ideological basis of the non-democratic regime in the Russian Federation also known as «putinism». It is predicted that «ruscism» as an ideological basis of «putinism» and «putinism» itself as a kind of authoritarian political regime of the present Russian Federation can exist after Putin’s departure (resignation, escape, natural or violent death, etc.). In this case the role of the key figure of the regime will be played by another successor and such a modernization of the quasi-ideology of «ruscism» and the facade of «putinism» may be beneficial to the financial oligarchy, since it can hypothetically reduce the impact of international sanctions and isolation.

The processes of contemporary politics are increasingly informed by ideas and principles that derive from conventional marketing. This, we suggest, is intimately connected to the neoliberal ascendancy which characterises the global political environment. In this article we seek to historicise the structural and ideological embedding of economic ideas within the political realm. We argue that marketing both informs and is a product of these changes and that there are important consequences, notably the further detaching of an already disaffected public from the electoral process. Conse- quently we conclude that the “marketisation” of politics has come to represent an “ideology of discon- nection.”

This article is devoted to the question concerning the conceptualization of power and its religious basis in pre-modern societies, carried out through a study of the inauguration rituals – especially the marriage – that mark not only the instigation of the power of the ruler but also suggests its religious basis, conceptualization and justification. It is grounded on source material from Byzantium and its legacy in the countries of South-Eastern Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean. The analysis has shown the woman as legitimating power in the case of royalty in connection with its correspondence to marriage. The legitimation and confirmation of the kingship in some pagan cultures passed through a hierogamy, conceived as a unity with the universal harmony in the image of a chthonic goddess. From the Christian point of view the relations between the royal bride and the bridegroom was under the archetypal model of the relation of Jesus Christ to His Church. He (Christ and the christian ruler) became a priest and king of the order of Melchisedek. That is why the rite of passage to Kingship corresponds to that of marriage, instituted by Lord Jesus Christ under the model of His own relation to the Church.

The economy creates society, economic system does it to a greater degree. The text aims to show the neoliberal system in Poland as an actual effect of the transformation. This system means that the principles of neoclassical economics are transferred to the other areas of science. For the economy it postulates free market and focus on entrepreneurship. Neoliberalism as a basis for a new, adopted to it society means far-reaching changes in the lives of the people, their relationships, the culture, the public sphere and disappearance of the traditional ideologies in favor ofadaptive behavior. The text is based on experience and other texts.

Opis:
In Portugal, the suffering and struggle of the East Timorese people for independence started a social movement of solidarity with strong repercussions in the arts, namely music and literature. Children’s Literature depicted the theme of this period of oppression in East Timor, as well as the recognition of its independence and its right to freedom, in a picturebook selected for the White Ravens List in 2003 called East Timor – Island of the Rising Sun (2001), by João Pedro Mésseder and André Letria. This unusual picturebook, characterised by a very simple and sparse, almost poetic, text combined with large-format pictures, depicts this chapter of the contemporary history of East Timor in very specific way, resembling fairy tales or legends. The text and images are combined in order to promote symbolic readings, suggesting a magical/mystical environment that impresses readers. More than a decade later, recent struggles and stories from East Timor are still present in Portuguese picturebooks such as Lya/Lia (2014), by Margarida Botelho. The social change, path to democracy and educational development, as well as daily life and children’s pastimes are now the centre of a narrative that establishes the similarities and differences between modern-day Portugal and East Timor. Our aim is to analyse both the political and ideological perspectives present in these picturebooks aimed at very young readers, offering a broad vision of different realities and contexts, even when they deal with war, death and suffering, as was the case of the East Timorese fight for independence.

The article focuses on populism, a phenomenon topical in the socio-political life of many countries. While it has a significant influence on the politics of countries with relatively little experience of functioning democratic institutions, populism is quite clearly visible also in the modern political space of old democracies. There is a distinct link between exacerbation of socio-economic problems and increasing attractiveness of populism. An important factor contributing to the emergence and growth of populist influences is the inability of political establishments, including fully democratic ones, to respond effectively to changes and new challenges.

Theoreticians of the Russian Narodnik movement emphasized the virtues of the traditional peasant economy and set the role of Russian intelligentsia in pursuit of the socio-economic progress of the country, where emphasis was placed mainly on the work of the people and on the ideals of the people. Both the legal as well as the illegal press, which constituted a specific public forum of ideological supporters, came to the theorists of the movement’s aid in propagating the Narodnik ideas. In fact, never before was literature in Russia so socially involved. Under the influence of the then press the ordinary reader became a zealous social activist. The subject of this article is an analysis of the process of ideological consciousness formation of the Russian society of the second half of the 19th century, when journalism was so important.

This introductory article is intended to open the volume of work prepared by the participants of the 12th UNESCO Janusz Korczak Chair International Summer School. The participants presented these papers at the RC25 ISA Interim International Conference in Warsaw, entitled: "Language and Society. Research Advances in Social Sciences" (26-27.09.2019), exploring the concepts of gender equality and children's equality in liberal and conservative discourses and practices invested in language. The papers in this volume primarily use the methodology of discourse analysis and a range of tools and methods within this framework. The purpose is to shed light on how discourses inform preferences, behaviours and representations, towards the positioning of individuals in society, based on their respective gender and their individual status - whether an adult or a child. It is interesting to explore what is expected of the holders of these positions and whether they are able to confront and renegotiate their situation. The authors look into gendered childhood, analysing if differences can be found in so-called conservative and liberal discourses. The gender aspect of childhood and the resistance towards children’s expected positions interlinked to their gender is visible to diverse degrees in this selection of papers. The concept of social positioning due to one's gender is at the heart of this volume. Therefore, this Editorial forms a theoretical backstage for the volume of works included in the special post-conference issue of Society Register.

Over last decades, and quite in line with an almost global trend, the Czech party system has been undergoing a shift towards more fragmentation, increasing voter volatility, decreasing party stability, erosion of party-society linkages and ever more personalised politics. As a part of this, ideologies have become vaguer and shallower. The Civic Democratic Party (Občanská demokratická strana, ODS) has probably been the most successful right wing political party in the new democracies of Central and Eastern Europe. This paper attempts to identify the British inspirations over the various stages of the ODS’s development and follow the changing interplay in the “triple i” triangle of ideology-identity-image. W ciągu ostatnich dekad, zgodnie z ogólnoświatowymi trendami, system partyjny w Republice Czeskiej zmierzał ku większej fragmentacji, zmienności decyzji wyborców, mniejszej stabilności partii politycznych, erozji związków partii ze społeczeństwem i personalizacji polityki. Częścią tych zmian było spłycenie i rozmycie partyjnych ideologii. Wśród prawicowych partii w nowych demokracjach Europy Środkowej i Wschodniej, czeska Obywatelska Partia Demokratyczna (Občanská demokratická strana, ODS) przez długi czas odnosiła największe sukcesy. Niniejszy artykuł analizuje brytyjskie inspiracje na różnych etapach rozwoju ODS i śledzi zmienne interakcje w partyjnym trójkącie ideologii, tożsamości i wizerunku.

Of all the arts, architecture is the one with the closest links to ideology – not only because in many cases it serves as an instrument of power, but also because any structure is invariably preceded by words. A poet writes poems which need no design beforehand; a painter may occasionally prepare sketches for his painting, but these drafts potentially contain the entire painting which is to be produced. Conversely, there are at least three stages to any building or structure. First, there comes an idea – expressed in words – which determines its function, form and meaning, then comes a hand drawing, which contemporarily is more and more frequently replaced by computer simulation, after that a scale model, and finally – a building.

Opis:
Idee te i jej realizacje były kontynuowane w średniowiecznej Europie. Jednak rozwinięcie idei i praktyki integracyjnej nastąpiło w dobie Jagiellonów. Polskie zasady integracyjne nawiązywały mocno do rzymskich rozwiązań. Te idee i zasady były istotnymi składowymi polskiej myśli politycznej aż do lat nam obecnych. Jednak generalne założenia integracyjne w europejskiej, a szczególnie polskiej myśli politycznej zostały zachowane. Można to zaobserwować w obecnej polityce III RP. Inną kwestią jest próba realizacji integracji w Europie Środkowej. Konkretyzacja koncepcji integracji Europy Środkowej i przemyślana intelektualnie jej realizacja są niezbędne.
The ideas of federation and integration were of the highest importance in the European and especially polish political thought. Ancient Greeks initially conceived those ideas in the early classical period. At that time, these ideas were implemented in the form of association of polis (states) and religious associations of states, called “amphictyonies.” Greek ideas were later continuously developed in the Middle Ages. During that period, the idea of Christian universalism became political. It resulted in the enhancement of integration principles of European political thought. Already then, during the Carolinian period, Charles the Great tried to restore the Roman Empire in a partially new and distinct form. His doctrinal assumptions were later realized in practice by the early German Empire. Polish political thought is also to be found in the West European integration currents already since the Piast era. But the idea of integration reached its theoretical and practical maturity during the Jagiellonian period. Polish principles of the political integration referred strongly to the roman solutions. In general, those principles were based on the estate civil society, Christianity as the axiological foundation and common legal system which maintained regional separateness. These ideas and principles were always important components of Polish political thought and still are up to modern times. These principles are visible in the theoretical assumptions of Polish political parties of the 19th and 20th centuries, and among some Polish political writers of the 21st century. Under the influence of civilizational and social changes in the world, Europe and Poland, some theoretical assumptions of integrational concepts have changed, among others: the notion of civil society, as well as the content of concepts like federation, confederation, and superpower. Likewise, the conceptualization of relationships between politics, economy, and the axiological system also evolved. However, core assumptions of the integration have been preserved in European and Polish political thought, which can be seen in the contemporary politics of Poland. Integration of Central Europe is a more complex and specific question. Practical implementation of it begs distinct theoretical considerations.
