Opis:
Results of scientific research works considering selection of measuring transducer applied for registration of acoustic emission signals generated by on load tap changers are presented in the paper. During the coupling process acoustic emission signals are generated by: the mechanical setup of tap changer, contacts operation, and other phenomena. For most on load tap changers types, the working medium is insulation oil in which the acoustic wave being formed propagates to the steal tank. There exists a possibility to register acoustic emission signals with a piezoelectric transducer attached to the outer tank surface or with a hydrophone immersed in the oil. Acoustic emission signal obtained in such manner contains information which describes operation of the power tap changer and the selector. A comparative analysis of acoustic emission signals generated by on load tap changers working under laboratory conditions, with applied measuring transducers with different transmittances, is presented in the paper. The comparative analysis was performed in order to determine their suitability for on load tap changers technical condition diagnosis. Based on the results achieved, one transducer which allows the registration of acoustic events generated during on load tap changers operation was selected.

The subject of the paper concerns evaluation of the technical condition of the power transformer magnetic circuit by measuring and analyzing vibrations recorded during switching on the transformer. This paper presents the results of technical verification of the noninvasive method used for diagnostics of transformer cores. The research on application of this method has been performed at the Institute of Power Engineering of the Opole University of Technology for several years. The paper characterizes the proposed methodology, the so-called modified vibroacoustic method, and presents the results obtained on two tested transformers, type TR 16000/110 and TORb 25000/110. Evaluation of the effectiveness of the developed methodology of diagnostic measurements was performed by correlation analysis of the time-frequency vibrations recorded with the results of chromatographic studies (DGA) of oil taken from the transformer tank. The recorded vibrations were analyzed using the transformation STFT (Short Time Fourier Transform), CWT (Continuous Wavelet Transform) and DWT (Discrete Wavelet Transform). On the basis of the results given in this paper as well as the currently conducted research work, it was found that there is a real possibility of using the developed method for noninvasive assessment of technical condition of mechanical construction of power transformer cores in operating conditions.

During its operation a power transformer is subjected to the influence of numerous unfavourable factors which shorten its operation time and can cause unexpected disastrous failures. As far as the active part of a transformer is considered, magnetostrictic vibrations and cellulose depolymerization are the most harmful factors causing the loss of mechanical strength. Their influence results in the gradual loosening of the pressing and clamping of the core and transformer windings, which leads to the weakening of the active part mechanical construction (Fig. 1). In the electric power sector there are a few methods for detection of damages in power transformers. One of them is the vibroacoustic method which consists in measurement and analysis of vibrations of the object under study. Its application to high-power transformer diagnostics enables, first of all, assessing the technical condition of the core. Additionally, combining this method with other diagnostic methods can provide information not only on the core technical condition but also on the solid insulation properties of the device being tested [5 - 6]. In the paper the technical assessment of the condition of four unit transformers of type TFBb 240000/400 is performed basing on the analysis of mechanical vibrations of the tub. The basic technical parameters of the transformers are listed in Table 1. The measuring system used for recording the signals coming from the core vibrations of the particular units and transferred by the tub is described. Based on the criterion values [among others 6 - 8] an attempt to assess the technical condition of the electric power appliances diagnosed is made. The investigations and analyses carried out confirm that the measurement results of vibrations of the particular units have not revealed any damage to their cores or other defects of mechanical character.

Opis:
W artykule przedstawiono przykład diagnostyki transformatora elektro-energetycznego pod kątem oceny stanu technicznego papierowo - olejowego układu izolacyjnego zagrożonego występowaniem wyładowań niezupełnych (WNZ). Badania przeprowadzono podczas normalnej pracy jednostki transformatorowej, rejestrując w 36 punktach na powierzchni kadzi sygnały emisji akustycznej (EA) pochodzącej od zjawisk fizycznych występujących wewnątrz transformatora. Zarejestrowane sygnały poddano analizie w dziedzinie czasowej, częstotliwościowej i czasowo - częstotliwościowej. Wynikiem badań była detekcja i lokalizacja miejsca występowania wyładowań elektrycznych oraz wskazanie prawdopodobnej przyczyny i miejsca ich powstawania.
Three measurement methods: gas chromatography method (DGA), electrical method and AE method are used in the assessment of the technical condition of paper-oil insulation of high-power transformers exposed to the occurrence of partial discharges (PDs). The acoustic method of PD detection is used as a supplementary one to the two others, mainly the gas chromatography method which does not make it possible to locate the place of the insulation system defect appearance. The basic advantage of the AE method, compared with the electrical one, is the possibility of its application during regular operation of power appliances [2, 3]. The paper presents the measurement results of the AE signals accompanying regular operation of a power transformer of 270 MVA. In order to assess the intensity of the AE signals measured on the object under study, coming from physical phenomena taking place inside a tub, three analyses were performed: in the time, frequency and time-frequency domains. Registration of the AE signals, the distributions of which is shown in Fig. 2, was carried out at 36 measurement points. An exemplary waveform of the AE signals registered is shown in Fig. 3, while the results of the analysis in the time domain are listed in Tables 1 and 2. In order to assess the waveforms registered more accurately, the analysis in the frequency domain was carried out and amplitude spectra were determined, an example of which is presented in Fig. 4. The time-frequency analysis was performed by using a short-time Fourier transform (STFT) determining two-dimensional spectrograms of the power density spectrum (Fig. 5). The assessment of the technical condition of the transformer under study made it possible to detect and locate areas in which PDs occurred. Damage of magnetic screens is a probable cause of their occurrence.

This paper provides an example of the application of the acoustic emission (AE) method for the diagnosis of technical conditions of a three-phase on-load tap-changer (OLTC) GIII type. The measurements were performed for an amount of 10 items of OLTCs, installed in power transformers with a capacity of 250 MVA. The study was conducted in two different OLTC operating conditions during the tapping process: under load and free running conditions. The analysis of the measurement results was made in both time domain and time-frequency domain. The description of the AE signals generated by the OLTC in the time domain was performed using the analysis of waveforms and determined characteristic times. Within the time-frequency domain the measured signals were described by short-time Fourier transform spectrograms.

On-load tap changers (OLTC) are some of the main transformer elements that make voltage adjustment in a power network possible. Their failures often cause shutdowns of distribution transformers. The paper presents research work aimed at the assessment of the technical condition of OLTCs by the acoustic emission method (EA). This method makes the OLTC diagnosis possible without the need of disconnecting the transformer from the system. The measurements were taken in laboratory conditions. The influence on the operation non-concurrence of the power tap changer contacts on the AE registered signals has been investigated. The signals registered were subjected to analyses in the time and time-frequency domains. The result analysis in the time domain was carried out using the Hilbert transform and calculating characteristic times for the particular runs. A short-time Fourier transform was used for the assessment of results in the time-frequency do- main.

A verification study of ultrasound transmission numerical simulation results with experiment results is presented in this paper. The work considers a model of a transformer tank which is filled with electro insulating oil. In the experiment, performed under laboratory conditions, an ultrasound wave is generated by a piezoelectric transducer that is fixed in the centre of the tank and measured by another transducer mounted inside the tank at three distances: 10, 20 and 30 cm from the sound source. The transducer is able to measure and generate acoustic waves in the ultrasound frequency band up to 1 MHz. The simulation considers numerical calculation of acoustic pressure distribution inside the tank in which acoustic source emits waves with frequency equal to 100 kHz. Verification analysis has confirmed consistency of the numerically calculated values with the measurement results.

This article presents the results of research connected with the development and industrial use of vibroacoustic methods for the evaluation of the technical condition of the active part of transformers. The article presents the results of the analysis of vibrations generated by the high power transformer in which a defect was found on the basis of tests of oil carried out using the chromatography tests. In order to confirm the damage of the active part of this transformer, vibroacoustic measurements were performed in three states of its operation. The measurement using the classical vibroacoustic method included the registration of vibrations at the idle speed and during the load operation of the transformer. The original diagnostic method, so-called the modified vibroacoustic method, was also used during the measurement. The analysis of signals recorded using the classical vibroacoustic method was carried out in the frequency domain by indicating the amplitude of even harmonic vibrations. However, the analysis of signals measured during the commissioning of the transformer was conducted in the time-frequency domain using the short-time Fourier transform (STFT), continuous wavelet transform (CWT), and discrete wavelet transform (DWT). On the basis of the analysis of the results obtained it was stated that the increased level of vibrations of this transformer is a consequence of the loss of rigidity of the mechanical structure of its core.

An important part of electric power transformer is the on load tap changer which enables for voltage regulation in the network. Due to high level of failure frequency of these devices it is necessary to look for new diagnostic methods which enable for theirs technical state estimation under transformer normal operating condition. Presently at the Electric Power Institute at Opole University of Technology there are works in progress aspiring to determine the application possibility of the acoustic emission method for on load tap changer diagnosis. Results of scientifically-research works aiming to characterize the acoustic emission signals generated by a separated selector are presented in the paper. Measurements have been performed in a setup with a model of on load tap changer type VEL-110-27 from ELIN. Acoustic emission signals generated by the selector have been analyzed in detail. Analysis of the time-frequency components of signals generated by on load tap changer has been carried out with the short time Fourier transform and continuous wavelet transform. Based on the comparison outcome of acoustic emission signals generated by the power changer and by the selector two measuring paths endowed with wide band contact transducers have been proposed for the practical application.

Subject matter of this paper applies to improvement of acoustic emission method used in the diagnosis of on load tap changers of high power transformers. During measurement of acoustic emission signals generated by damages or defects, which can appear in insulation system and in the power transformer tap changers, various forms of noise signals may occur. Interferences occurring during measurements under laboratory and under industrial conditions can be generated either by sources placed inside the studied electric power device or they can be emitted in their immediate vicinity. Sources of interfering signals are physical phenomena of a mechanical, electrical or acoustical nature. Interferences appearing during measurement of acoustic emission pulses generated by electrical discharges and other types of defects that overlap the measured waveforms may result in their distortion. As part of the research conducted, the results of which are presented in this paper, following was subjected under consideration: measurements of acoustic noise signals generated by partial surface discharges occurring on support and bushing insulators were performed.
