Opis:
The protection and preservation of good groundwater quality is of critical importance worldwide, nowadays. Increasing urbanization, economic development and agricultural activities, combined with limited precipitation contribute to the quantitative and qualitative degradation of groundwater resources, especially in the eastern Mediterranean region. For this purpose, a series of actions are implemented including groundwater vulnerability mapping that can depict prone to pollution aquifers which need protection and/or restoration measures. In this study, the efficiency of two well-known methodologies (COP and DRASTIC) for groundwater vulnerability and pollution risk mapping was assessed in the Sperchios river basin. The vulnerability and pollution risk maps of the two methodologies were spatially compared to each other and the observed similarities and differences were discussed and explained. The output of the study shows that in the particular geoenvironmental conditions DRASTIC method performs better than the COP, particularly in the lowland, porous media aquifer.

Opis:
Groundwater is a vital resource for domestic, agricultural, and industrial activities, as well as for ecosystem services. Despite this, the resource is under significant threat, due to increasing contamination from anthropogenic activities. Therefore, to ensure its reliability for present and future use, effective management of groundwater is important not only in terms of quantity (i.e. abstraction) but also quality. This can be achieved by identifying areas that are more vulnerable to contamination and by implementing protective measures. To identify the risk and delineate areas that are more exposed to pollution, various groundwater vulnerability assessment techniques have been developed across the globe. This paper presents an overview of some of the commonly used groundwater vulnerability assessment models in terms of their unique features and their application. Special emphasis is placed on statistical methods and overlay-index techniques. The assessment of the literature shows that statistical methods are limited in application to the assessment of groundwater vulnerability to pollution because they rely heavily on the availability of sufficient and quality data. However, in areas where extensive monitoring data are available, these methods estimate groundwater vulnerability more realistically in quantitative terms. Many works of research indicate that index-overlay methods are used extensively and frequently in groundwater vulnerability assessments. Due to the qualitative nature of these models, however, they are still subject to modification. This study offers an overview of a selection of relevant groundwater vulnerability assessment techniques under a specific set of hydro-climatic and hydrogeological conditions.

This paper is about a new methodical approach of the joint and simultaneous application of Value Stream Mapping and Methods-Time Measurement (MTM). The focus of Value Stream Mapping is the alignment and combination of individual processes to form a continuous, efficient value stream through the organisation (macro consideration). MTM provide an exact determination of times and focuses on executions of individual tasks and working places (micro consideration). A hybrid optimisation of added value originates from the reasonable and useful combination of Value Stream Mapping and Methods-Time Measurement for increasing productivity, reducing lead time and exact determination of times.

Aerial photographs are a source of geological information that may be unobtainable elsewhere. If the fullest use is to be made of this information for the purpose of geological mapping, there must be a planned integration of the photogeological work with the field and laboratory investigations. The appearance of the first satellites for civil purposes on the beginning of the 1970s (such as ERTS – Landsat series), of most land areas of the Earth has provided new opportunity for photogeologists. Many areas can now be studied and mapped geologically for which neither adequate maps nor vertical aerial photograps were available. The advantages of the present satellite systems and examples of their application by specialists of the Polish Geological Institute are presented in this paper. Nowadays, it is practically impossible to imagine performing geological mapping without application of remote sensing data and analysis. Development of new technologies is very fast and new borne techniques are coming like permanent scatter interferometry, laser scanning etc. However, we should always remember, that they are only very useful tools to help geologists in their field mapping art and practise.

Land cover mapping of marshland areas from satellite images data is not a simple process, due to the similarity of the spectral characteristics of the land cover. This leads to challenges being encountered with some land covers classes, especially in wetlands classes. In this study, satellite images from the Sentinel 2B by ESA (European Space Agency) were used to classify the land cover of Al Hawizeh marsh/Iraq Iran border. Three classification methods were used aimed at comparing their accuracy, using multispectral satellite images with a spatial resolution of 10 m. The classification process was performed using three different algorithms, namely: Maximum Likelihood Classification (MLC), Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), and Support Vector Machine (SVM). The classification algorithms were carried out using ENVI 5.1 software to detect six land cover classes: deep water marsh, shallow water marsh, marsh vegetation (aquatic vegetation), urban area (built up area), agriculture area, and barren soil. The results showed that the MLC method applied to Sentinel 2B images provides a higher overall accuracy and the kappa coefficient compared to the ANN and SVM methods. Overall accuracy values for MLC, ANN, and SVM methods were 85.32%, 70.64%, and 77.01% respectively.

Opis:
The paper presents empirical methodology of reducing various kinds of observations in geodetic network. A special case of reducing the observation concerns cartographic mapping. For numerical illustration and comparison of methods an application of the conformal Gauss-Krüger mapping was used. Empirical methods are an alternative to the classic differential and multi-stages methods. Numerical benefits concern in particular very long geodesics, created for example by GNSS vectors. In conventional methods the numerical errors of reduction values are significantly dependent on the length of the geodesic. The proposed empirical methods do not have this unfavorable characteristics. Reduction value is determined as a difference (or especially scaled difference) of the corresponding measures of geometric elements (distances, angles), wherein these measures are approximated independently in two spaces based on the known and corresponding approximate coordinates of the network points. Since in the iterative process of the network adjustment, coordinates of the points are systematically improved, approximated reductions also converge to certain optimal values.

Opis:
Among many various cartographic visualization methods thematic maps are definitely standing out. One of them are cartogrammic mapping techniques, which are used to depict statistical surface with areal signs. Some phenomenon average intensity in spatial units boundaries they show. Two cartogrammic mapping techniques: choropleth and dasymetric mapping in the paper are discussed. Using cartogrammic methods numerical values either in discrete or continuous manner is shown. Usually cartogrammic techniques are used to present relative values, what is a simple consequence of being presented in reference to spatial units boundaries. In the paper the fact, that diversified reference units size can lead to distorted map perception is mentioned, what makes the reference units choice as one of the most essential problems. Apart from that some other problems that can influence the choropleth maps creation correctness are shown, among them rating ranges and color scale choosing. In the paper some analytic, graphic and iterative range constructing methods are presented. Also some choropleth mapping disadvantages are discussed, which the dasymetric mapping is decreasing. Several dasymetric techniques are described as well. Treating dasymetric method as one of the areal interpolation problems, especially in American literature, is mentioned.

Basing on recent studies with the use of hyperspectral data and on the results of vegetation characteristics comparison, it was assumed, that hyperspectral airborne images allow for identification and monitoring of chosen plant species in high mountain environment. Algorithms based on spectral mixture models give the possibility of describing pixel value as an aggregation of individual spectral responses. This helps in assessing percentage of each species cover in the plant community. Main aim of this study was the continuation of previous studies on identification of spectral characteristics of high mountain plant species, with the view of creating local spectral library of those species. Furthermore, a method of automatic identification and mapping of high mountain vegetation should be developed. The study involved analysis of 5 species: Luzula spadicea, Juncus trifidus, Calamagrostis villiosa, Deschampsia fl exuosa and Nardus stricta, and was conducted in Gąsienicowa Valley in Tatra National Park in Poland. For the assessment of possibilities of high mountain plant species identification and mapping, airborne hyperspectral images from DAIS 7915 scanner were used. Field measurements, used as a reference for airborne data, were taken with the use of GER 3700 and ASD FieldSpec spectrometers in 13 measurement locations. They were also used for analysis of spectral reflectance differences between the species. Identification and mapping of plant species were realized using 4 different classification methods, of which Spectral Angle Mapper (SAM) method gave the best results. The results were compared to test data for accuracy assessment.

It is well known that a power of a right invertible operator is again right invertible, as well as a polynomial in a right invertible operator under appropriate assumptions. However, a linear combination of right invertible operators (in particular, their sum and/or difference) in general is not right invertible. It will be shown how to solve equations with linear combinations of right invertible operators in commutative algebras using properties of logarithmic and antilogarithmic mappings. The used method is, in a sense, a kind of the variables separation method. We shall obtain also an analogue of the classical Fourier method for partial differential equations. Note that the results concerning the Fourier method are proved under weaker assumptions than these obtained in [6] (cf. also [7, 8, 11]).

Several methods have been proposed in the literature to address the problem of automatic mapping by a robot using range scan data, under localization uncertainty. Most scan matching methods rely on the minimization of the matching error among individual range scans. However, uncertainty in sensor data often leads to erroneous matching, hard to cope with in a purely automatic approach. This paper proposes a semi-automatic approach, denoted interactive mapping, involving a human operator in the process of detecting and correcting erroneous matches. Instead of allowing the operator complete freedom in correcting the matching in a frame by frame basis, the proposed method facilitates the adjustment along the directions with more ambiguity, while constraining the others. Experimental results using LIDAR data are presented to validate empirically the approach, together with a preliminary user study to evaluate the benefits of the approach.
