    Opis:
    A speaker recognition system based on joint factor analysis (JFA) is proposed to improve whisper- ing speakers’ recognition rate under channel mismatch. The system estimated separately the eigenvoice and the eigenchannel before calculating the corresponding speaker and the channel factors. Finally, a channel-free speaker model was built to describe accurately a speaker using model compensation. The test results from the whispered speech databases obtained under eight different channels showed that the correct recognition rate of a recognition system based on JFA was higher than that of the Gaussian Mixture Model–Universal Background Model. In particular, the recognition rate in cellphone channel tests increased significantly.

    This article discusses the feminist implications of Louisa May Alcott’s 1863 Gothic story “A Whisper in the Dark,” which not only expresses the anxieties that the author experienced in response to her upbringing and her social reality, but also provides an extensive critique of patriarchal culture. The essay explores the subversive nature of the story by presenting it as a dark double to Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre as well as by showing how the author mocks nineteenth-century sentimentality throughout.

    Opis:
    Word of mouth' (WOM) as a communication tool has evolved quite significantly over the last few decades. Originally, word-of-mouth communication was limited to local coverage, i.e. it was restricted only to the closest people in the circle of the sender of the message. Technological developments over the past 30 years, particularly in computer and mobile technologies, have brought about significant changes in this form of communication. The information provided has become global; the consumer can communicate directly with the entrepreneur. Examples of bibliographic analyses of only electronic word of mouth (eWOM) without consideration of traditional WOM can be found in the literature. It therefore seems important to try to analyse the literature collection on both WOM and eWOM. The article aims to identify and present the most frequently cited works (along with their authors), as well as the publications most frequently referred to by authors publishing works related to WOM. Citation analysis and co-citation analysis were used to realise the stated aim. The basis for the analyses is a collection of publications from the WoS database. The results obtained made it possible to identify and create a list of the most frequently cited and co-cited publications.

    Powrót „mody na folklor” i nawrót fascynacji sztuką ludową dostrzegalne są dziś w rozmaitych przestrzeniach oraz tekstach kultury. Wzorem państw zachodnich, które „odzyskują” współcześnie dawne wierzenia, obyczaje i obrzędy, Polska oraz inne kraje słowiańskie przeżywają powtórnie „chłopomanię”. Te trendy znalazły swoje odbicie także we współczesnej literaturze fantastycznej. W ciągu ostatnich dwudziestu lat powstało wiele powieści nawiązujących do życia i obrzędowości mieszkańców wsi (często z okolic Podlasia). Ludowe wierzenia, żywe i kultywowane, stają się w nich punktem wyjścia do skonstruowania zaskakującej i pomysłowej fabuły. W artykule porównano „folkowe” powieści, które łączy postać głównej bohaterki – szeptuchy, wiedźmy, znachorki – będącej niejako symbolem tego, co wiejskie, „z ludu”, „z gminu”.
    The return of ‘folklore fashion’ and the renewed fascination with folk art can be seen at present in various spaces and culturebased texts. Following in the footsteps of Western countries that are now ‘reclaiming’ old beliefs, customs, and rites, Poland and other Slavic countries are reliving their ‘peasant mania’. These trends have also been reflected in contemporary fantasy literature; over the past twenty years, many novels have referred to the life and rituals of village dwellers (often from the Podlasie region). Folk-based beliefs, which are part of everyday life and culture, become the starting point for the construction of a surprising and ingenious storyline. This article compares the ‘folk’ novels that are linked through the type of main character – whisperers, witches, faith healers – who in some way symbolise the rural, the folk, the commoner-related.

    Knjižica "Tiho ti govorim" (1992) s Pretnarjevimi prevodi dvainštiridesetih poljskih pesmi iz različnih literarnozgodovinskih obdobij je izrazit primer prevajalčevega osebnega dialoga z literaturo. Na izbor je gotovo vplivala prevajalčeva osebna bivanjska (zdravstvena) izkušnja. Ta „prevajalski dnevnik” tematizira osamljenost, odsotnost (npr. Szymborska, Orkan), smrt, samomor in celo ubijanje (npr. Szymborska, Bursa); nemoč izpovedovanja (npr. Wojaczek). Zdi pa se, da je prevajalčevo zadnje sporočilo vendarle optimistično. Priložnost za preseganje smrtnosti prepoznava v ustvarjalnem/umetnostnem dejanju (tudi npr. Wojaczkovo „tiho govorjenje” je kljub načelnemu dvomu v izrazno moč besed predvsem „pesniško izrekanje” o življenju) in religioznem doživetju (npr. Wat, Staff, Gałczyński), najtrdnejše zagotovilo „občutenja” nadčasnosti pa vidi v možnosti ljubezenskega čustvovanja in občutka pripadnosti drugemu (npr. Krasiński, Przybora).
    The volume of poems translated by Tony Pretnar "I Whisper to you" (1992) written by poets of different historical and literary periods clearly reveals the personal dialog of the translator with literature. The personal experience of the translator had the influence on the choice of the poems. The subject of his „diary of translation” is isolation, feeling of deficiency (Szymborska, Orkan), death (Szymborska, Bursa), the crisis of expression (Wojaczek). However, it seems that the definite expression of Pretnar’s translation is optimistic. A chance to overcome death he sees in a creative act. (also „quiet conversation” of Wojaczek in spite of his doubt in the power of word expression stands a poetical witness in sense of life) and in religions experience (Wat, Staff, Gałczyński). The most everlasting confirmation of eternity for Pretnar were love and contiguity to another human being (Krasiński, Przybora).
