Opis:
This paper presents the results of research work on linear friction stir welding (FSW) of magnesium AZ31 and aluminum 2024 alloys. During the FSW process, forces exerted by a tool on joined materials were measured. The measurements of forces were taken in three directions, vertical (Z axis) and horizontal (X and Y axes) directions, using high-sensitive piezoelectric dynamometer. The force analysis was done for three stages of welding process: plunging, dwelling, and welding. Conclusions regarding the force reaction of materials to be welded were formulated. It was found that the first two stages of the process, plunging and dwelling, are very important for the correct welding. In the plunging stage, a tool exerts the greatest forces and unit pressures (at the Z direction) on joined materials; during the dwelling stage, thermal conditions of the process are established. The welding stage was divided into two substages: the initial unstable and the subsequent long-term stabilized one.

Opis:
Resistance spot welding is the most significant joining technique utilized in various industries, like automotive, boilers, vessels, etc., that are commonly subjected to variable tensile-shear forces due to the unsuitable use of the input spot welding variables, which mainly cause the welded joints failure during the service life of the welded assembly. So, in order to avoid such failures, the welding quality of some materials like aluminum must be improved taking into consideration the performance and weight saving of the welded structure. Thus, the need for optimizing the used welding parameters becomes essential for predicting a good welded joint. Accordingly, this study aims at investigating the influence of the spot welding variables, including the squeeze time, welding time, and current on the tensile-shear force of the similar and dissimilar lap joints for aluminum and steel sheets. It was concluded that the use of Taguchi design can improve the welded joints strength through designing the experiments according to the used levels of the input parameters in order to obtain their optimal values that give the optimum tensile-shear force as the response. As a consequence of the present work, the optimal spot welding parameters were successfully obtained.

Opis:
Fe-based PM alloy powder of Fe-2.5Ni-0.5Mo-2Cu-0.4C was pressed by high velocity compaction combined with die wall lubrication, and the effect of die wall lubrication on high velocity compaction behavior and sintering properties of the Fe-based PM alloy were studied. The results indicate that the impact force, green density, sintered density of samples increase with the augment of the impact velocity and die wall lubrication. Compared with that without die wall lubrication, the green density and sintered density of the sample with die wall lubrication are about 0.07-0.12 g/cm3 and 0.08~0.11 g/cm3 higher at the same impact velocity, respectively, while the ejection force of the die wall lubricated sample is much smaller, and reduced about 26%~36%. The green compact with die wall lubrication has much fewer porosity than that without die wall lubrication, and more mechanical bonding and cold welding regions are observed. The sintered samples mainly consists of gray pearlite and white ferrite, and more pearlite is observed in the sintered sample with die wall lubrication.

Opis:
The paper presents the results of research work on linear FSW (Friction Stir Welding) joining aluminum alloys AA2024-T3 of 0.5 mm in thickness. The study was conducted on properly adapted numerical controlled 3 axis milling machine using a ceramic tool and special designed fastening device. The tool dimensions have been estimated according to the algorithm shown in the literature [4]. All joints were made of end-to end (butt) configuration under different welding speed. The rotational speed of the tool and tool offset was constant. The effect of selected technological parameters on the quality of the joint was analyzed. Produced butt joint have been subjected to a static tensile testing to identify mechanical features of the materials of joints compared to parent materials. Measurements of micro hardness HV in the plastically formed stir zone of joint and in the parent material have been carried out. Axial and radial welding forces in the joining region were recorded during the tests and their dependency from the welding parameters was studied. Based on the results of strength tests the efficiency of joints for sheets of 0.5 mm in thicknesses oscillated up to 96% compared to the parent material. It has been found that for given parameters the correct, free of defects joints were obtained. The paper also presents the results of low-cycle fatigue tests of obtained FSW joints. The use of a ceramic tool in the FSW process allows to obtain welds with higher strength than conventional tools. The results suggests that FSW can be potentially applied to joining aluminum alloys.

Opis:
This study investigates the effects of frequency, compression force and Vee angle parameters of High-Frequency Electric Resistance Welding (HF-ERW) process on mechanical properties of API X52 microalloy steel welding joint. Therefore, API X52 microalloy steel sheets having thickness of 8 mm was provided to manufacture pipes with the diameter of 16”. with direct weld seams using the HF-ERW method. During the manufacturing process, frequency values of 150, 200 and 250 kHz, compression forces of 2, 4 and 6 mark and Vee angles of 3°, 5°, and 7° were adopted. After changing the welding parameters, from the welded pipes, tensile and Charpy impact test samples prepared to macroscopically evaluate the weld metal flow and examine the effects of these parameters on mechanical properties of the welded joints. According to the results, it was concluded that frequency of 150 kHz, the compression force of 4 mark and Vee angle of 5° yields best mechanical properties in the HF-ERW joint of API X52 microalloy steel.

Opis:
In this study, the coefficients of friction for three series of welded nickel alloy joints, subjected to different heat treatments (lack of heat treatment, solution heat treatment, precipitation hardening), were determined. Heat treatment of the prepared samples was aimed at eliminating the structural and stress gradient, because the electron beam welding technique is dedicated for constructions with very high quality and strength requirements. Given the nature of the electron beam process, the authors are aware that the obtained weld’s structures are characterized by different properties from parent materials, and also from structures melted under equilibrium conditions. The scientific aim of the presented work is to determine the influence of heat treatment on the microstructure, mechanical properties, and performance of dissimilar joints of nickel alloys Inconel 625 and Inconel 718. In order to determine the coefficient of friction for samples, the scratch test method was used. As a result of the research, it was proved that subjecting the welds to the precipitation hardening has a significant effect on abrasion resistance.
