Opis:
Since antiquity, the issue of the inconsistency between the Book of Nahum and the Book of Jonah has been addressed, one regarding both its content and its message. At various times, it was settled in different ways. The current state of biblical research seems to allow us to put forth a daring thesis that both Books have more in common than merely Nineveh as the subject matter, which they approach from a different angle. There seem to be grounds to see these two Books as vestiges of an intracanonical debate waged within the Book of the Twelve.

Opis:
“The Twelve” was the name of a group of Ukrainian littérateurs, active during the period of 1934 to 1939 in Lviv. The phenomenon of “Lviv’s youngest literary bohemians of the 1930s” (W. Gabor) was discovered relatively recently, which explains why despite a growing interest of researchers it remains obscure and undervalued in Ukrainian literary studies. Worthy of mention is the innovativeness of “The Twelve”, always avant-garde in their search for new forms of speech, both when it comes to urban prose (Anatol Kurdydyk, Zenon Tarnavsky, Bohdan Nyzhankivsky) and the prose about the villages (Vasil Tkachuk) as well as to the bohemianist style that the group exhibited. This paper is therefore an attempt to determine the extent of innovativeness (the avant- -garde solutions in both the functioning and literary legacy) of “The Twelve”.

The scope of the present study is the symbolic analysis of the two interwoven Markan narratives about the healing of the woman with the flow of blood (5:25-34) and the raising of Jairus’ daughter (5:21-24.35-43). The principal thesis of this work consists in interpreting both women as symbols of Israel. The study begins with the presentation of the methodological premises of symbolic analysis. The main methodological premise of this work is the conviction that the literary sense of this pericope is in fact imbued with symbolism. Then there is a presentation of three criteria which help in detecting symbols in the biblical text: textual probability, conventions probability and contextual probability. Subsequently, in order to lend credence to the principal thesis of the article, seventeen literary elements found in Mark 5:21-43 are discussed; each of them meets the first two criteria and lends itself to symbolic interpretation of the two women as representations of Israel. The cumulative weight of these seventeen elements creates a rather strong cumulative argument in favor of the main thesis. Finally, the conformity between the symbolic interpretation of these women and both the immediate and global contexts of this pericope is discussed. The presence of this conformity meets the third criterion of contextual probability. The article thus offers a convincing case for the symbolic interpretation of the hemorrhaging woman and Jairus’ daughter in Mark 5:21-43 as representations of Israel.

Opis:
This article ventures into the basic principles of the original Twelve-step program by studying its similarity with the dynamics of the Sacrament of Reconciliation in the Catholic Church. It begins with a short presentation of the theological foundation of confession, and continues with the history of AA’s Twelve-step recovery program while focusing on the latter’s spiritual dimension and that of similar groups. The major analysis is dedicated to demonstrating and discussing the parallels found in the twelve steps content and the Sacrament of Reconciliation; where the twelve steps have their effectiveness written within themselves, the Sacrament of Reconciliation also requires a progression from contrition, an examination of conscience, the confessing sins and satisfaction. In conclusion, the author presents pastoral suggestions meant to facilitate work with believers struggling with various addictions.

Opis:
The article consists of three parts. In the first part, the author interprets the poem of A. Blok as a modernist variant of a “Petersburg Text”, in the second – proposes and explains the formula of the “translation functionalism”, and in the third part, uses it in the analysis of the three Polish translations of The Twelve. The author proves that each of the translators: Wacław Denhoff-Czarnocki, Seweryn Pollak and Wiktor Woroszylski choose a different principle of coherence of the text. This is shown both in the modeling of the city area as well as the social features of the characters. Consequently, three different interpretations of enigmatic epilogue are created, in which the revolutionaries are preceded by Christ carrying a “bloody flag”.

Luke 2: 41–52, presents Jesus who is not only man, but also the Son of God, the one who has a special, unique relationship with his Father in heaven. Jesus is aware of this even as a παῖς, that is in his childhood. He knows that his priority mission which originates in God’s mandate, is his presence in the house of his Father that means fulfilling the task of teaching in the temple. This became clear during his pilgrimage to Jerusalem. Without asking his parents’ permission, of his own will, he stays in the Holy City and anticipates his future mission. His obedience to the heavenly Father takes priority over his filial subordination to Joseph and Mary, who did not understand this mystery. It turns out that faith in the mystery of Jesus is not given to man once and for all. It develops through reflection on the identity of Jesus and ultimately leads to the primacy of the will of God over human will.

Opis:
The present article deals with the studies of testimony in the Gospel of Luke, focusing on the testimony of the disciples of Jesus. In the introduction the author outlines the theme of testimony in the double work of Luke-Acts as compared to other New Testament writings, and explains the meaning of giving testimony and being a witness according to the Third Evangelist. The exegetical study of texts, describing the missionary activity of the disciples in Luke shows that they were acting as witnesses in several stages. In the first stage the Twelve are witnesses sent by Jesus to proclaim the kingdom of God in Galilee. The second stage is the testimony of the seventy-two disciples sent on a mission to proclaim the kingdom of God in Samaria and Galilee. The radicalism of the requirements resembles the radicalism of Jesus’ life, and yields the special character of the disciples’ testimony. The object and the quality of the disciples’ testimony are changed after the Easter events. The disciples have to reckon with persecution, which turned into an opportunity to give testimony inspired by the Holy Spirit. The missionary commandment given by the Risen Lord, being simultaneously a testimony commandment, is preceded by the empowerment of the disciples with supernatural gifts from the Risen Lord, and conditioned by acceptance of the Holy Spirit. The object of disciples’ testimony after Easter will be the passion, the death, and above all the resurrection of Christ based on the prophecies of the Old Testament, and conversion with forgiveness of sins in His name. The testimony of the apostolic community of disciples would be taken from Palestine to all nations on Earth.

Opis:
The Book of Obadiah, although short (it has only 21 verses; the shortest in the Hebrew Bible), is at the same time very difficult. The difficulties are manifested in its linguistic and textual layers, but above all in what concerns its content, theology and interpretation. The Greek translation of Obad contained in the LXX is particularly important because it represents a way of understanding the Book going back to pre-Christian, Hellenistic times, which strongly emphasised the theme of threats to Israel from other nations. In the Greek translation (LXXObad), the cursing character of the Book is radicalised and the guilt of the enemies (Edomites – Idumeans) is highlighted. The article presents the Book of Obadiah in its historical context (both the Hebrew original and the Greek version), and presents its text, content and character in the Septuagint version. It compares it with LXXJer 29 (LXX numbering) and shows how the challenging theology of the Book was understood among the Jews of Hellenistic Alexandria. The universalisation of the message of the Book by the LXX translation was later continued in its patristic and rabbinic interpretations.

Opis:
Chodzi o to, by przez pogłębione studium włączyć je do całości zagadnień dotyczących pierwotnego rozumienia prymatu Piotrowego oraz traktowania go w pierwotnym Kościele.
Within the frames of theology of the Primacy of Saint Peter the testimony concerning this issue which Paul the Apostle provides through his attitude and teachings is generally disregarded. The question, however, is quite significant since it is clearly present in the New Testament. The point is, that through the profound study this issue should be included among the subjects concerning the original understanding of the primacy of Saint Peter and his status in the early Church. Certainly, Saint Paul still constitutes a decisive argument in the discussion concerning the primacy of Saint Peter and may serve as an example of its practical affirmation. This paper constitutes an attempt to draw the attention to this issue and to the need for certain supplementation in the theology of the primacy of Saint Peter.

Opis:
The article has an interdisciplinary character. It combines biographical, historical, literary, dramaturgical, and film themes. Adam Tarn’s Common Business (Zwykła sprawa) is a drama which undoubtedly played an important role in the period of socialist realism together with the performance directed by Erwin Axer. In the article, the significance of Tarn’s work, which was awarded at the 1st Festival of Polish Contemporary Arts in the early 1950s, is shown against the background of the cultural policy pursued in the People’s Republic of Poland. The writer’s nine-year stay in America has been presented in the perspective of the emigration-related origin of the Common Business. The proposed juxtaposition of Tarn’s debut drama and Sidney Lumet’s Oscar-winning film Twelve Angry Men (screenplay by Reginald Rose) reveals the complex political context in which each of the works appeared. The 1949 New York Foley Square Trial of 11 members of the National Board of the CPUSA (Communist Party USA), which ‘was the best known legal proceeding against a communist party’, has been indicated as the direct inspiration for Tarn’s play.
