Opis:
The present study of phytochemical screening has revealed valuable information about the chemical constituents of Nothapodytes foetida. Phytochemical analysis of leaves, stem, bark and root extracts of Nothapodytes foetida was performed using different solvent systems such as chloroform, butanol, hexane, methanol and acetonitrile for the presence of different phytochemicals with standard procedures. The phytochemical screening (both qualitative and quantitative) of variousplant extracts of Nothapodytes foetida revealed the presence of different phytoconstituents such as alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides, tannins, phenols and triterpenoids. Among all the solvents tested, methanol, butanol and chloroform extract of leaf, stem, bark and root showed high concentration of all phytoconstituents compared to hexane and acetonitrile solvent extracts. The total quantity of secondary metabolites was evaluated by using the standard procedures and the line of regression and the regression coefficient estimated from the calibration curve of various standards. The highest quantity of phytoconstituent present in the plant extracts was identified to be alkaloids. The alkaloid content of leaf was evaluated to be 66.11±0.47, whereas stem possess 56.27±0.38, bark 59.02±0.17 and root 62.34±0.27 mg AE/gm of extracts and subsequent high amounts of phytoconstituents identified was flavonoids, tannins, phenols and saponins. Phytochemical screening of Nothapodytes foetidaused in the medical field for the design of new drugs.

Opis:
The lipophilic biomarker distributions in lipids of Neogene lignites and lignitic shales in western Pomerania and the midlands of Poland are presented. Twenty-six lignite samples and seven lignitic shales were obtained from twenty-four boreholes. Their extracts were separated, using thin-layer chromatography, and the saturate and aromatic fractions were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The molecular compositions of n-alkanes, isoprenoids, n-alkylcyclohexanes, n-alkylbenzenes, tri- and tetracyclic diterpenoids, pentacyclic triterpenoids, as well as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) with up to five rings, were determined. The samples displayed n-alkane distributions in the range of C14–C35 and high odd-over-even carbon number predominances (CPI(25–33) from 2.9 to 7.9). Diterpanes consisted primarily of phyllocladane, abietane, isopimarane, labdane, and kaurane structures, although their abundances varied among the samples. Hopanes exhibited the biological and geochemical characteristics of low-maturity organic matter. Minor oleanane triterpenoids from angiosperms were also found. A few samples displayed evidence of biodegradation on the basis of the advanced isomerization of αβ-hopanes and the presence of short-chained n-alkanes, n-alkylcyclohexanes, and n-alkylbenzenes. A more mature stage of the above biomarkers also may have resulted in part from the oxidation of organic matter. The lignite source materials were derived from conifer and angiosperm flora as well as microbial remnants. The contribution from marine phytoplankton was excluded on the basis of the lack of C27 steroids. PAHs were predominantly perylene or phenanthrene, with minor other analogues. Thus, the data support progressive lacustrine/lagoonal sedimentation in the palaeoenvironmental mires.

Opis:
Wild berries of the genus Vaccinium have become increasingly popular in human health promotion due to their nutritional and medicinal properties. Some striking divergence of opinion about the content of triterpenoids in these plants still exists, meanwhile, this very large class of natural isoprenoids exhibits a wide range of biological activities and hence is of growing research interest. An investigation of triterpenoidal constituents from the cowberry (Vaccinium vitis-idaea L.) plant led to the isolation of two isomeric acids: oleanolic and ursolic and the occurrence of their derivatives in this plant was demonstrated for the first time. Free triterpene acids as well as small amounts of their bound forms (presumable glycosides and glycoside esters) occur in fruits and the vegetative part of the plant, however, in various amounts and different ratios. The total content of both acids was the highest in organs regarded as traditional herbal resources, namely fruits and leaves (1 and 0.6% of dry mass, respectively), whereas it was markedly lower in stems and rhizomes. However, the rhizomes were in turn the plant organ containing relatively the highest amount of the bound forms of both acids (0.01% of dry mass). Ursolic acid was dominant in the whole plant, but the ratio of oleanolic to ursolic acid was significantly different in individual organs, decreasing from the upper (fruits 1:2.4, leaves 1:2) to the lower (stems 1:3.5, rhizomes 1:5.2) parts of the plant. This pattern of distribution of triterpenoids in the plant may have an important physiological and ecological meaning.
