Opis:
This paper aims to introduce a novel extended Kalman filter (EKF) based estimator including observability analysis to the literature associated with the high performance speed-sensorless control of induction motors (IMs). The proposed estimator simultaneously performs the estimations of stator stationary axis components of stator currents and rotor fluxes, rotor mechanical speed, load torque including the viscous friction term, and reciprocal of total inertia by using measured stator phase currents and voltages. The inertia estimation is done since it varies with the load coupled to the shaft and affects the performance of speed estimation especially when the rotor speed changes. In this context, the estimations of all mechanical state and parameters besides flux estimation required for high performance control methods are performed together. The performance of the proposed estimator is tested by simulation and real-time experiments under challenging variations in load torque and velocity references; and in both transient and steady states, the quite satisfactory estimation performance is achieved.

Opis:
The paper focuses on the development of a novel DSP based high performance speed sensorless control scheme for PWM voltage source inverter fed induction motor drives. Firstly, two generic torque and flux control methods the Field Oriented Control (FOC) and Direct Torque Control (DTC), are briefly described. For implementation the sensorless scheme DTC with Space Vector Modulation (DTCSVM) has been selected because it eliminates the disadvantages associated with the DTC while keeping the advantages of both FOC and DTC. Secondly, the simple flux vector observer allowing speed sensor elimination is given. The novelty of the presented system lays in combining the DTC-SVM structure with a simple observer for both torque/flux and speed sensorless control. Furthermore, the DTC-SVM structure which operates in speed sensorless and torque control mode is presented. Finally, the description of a 50 kW laboratory drive and experimental results illustrating properties of the system are given.

Opis:
This paper proposes RT-LAB platform for realtime implementation of Luenberger observer based on speed sensorless scalar control of induction motor. The observed shaft speed is derived from lyapunov’s theory. It is shown by an extensive study that this Luenberger observer with PI anti-windup speed controller is completely satisfactory at (nominal, variable, reverse) speed references and it is also robust to load torque disturbance. The sensorless control algorithm along with the proposed Luenberger observer is modeled, built in the Host PC and successfully implemented in real-time using digital simulator OP5600. The experimental results observed in the GW-Instek digital oscilloscope’s screen validate the effectiveness of the proposed Luenberger observer for speed sensorless scheme.

Opis:
This paper presents an estimator-based speed sensorless field-oriented control (FOC) method for induction machines, where the state estimator is based on a self-contained, non-linear model. This model characterises both the electrical and the mechanical behaviours of the machine and describes them with seven state variables. The state variables are estimated from the measured stator currents and from the known stator voltages by using an estimator algorithm. An important aspect is that one of the state variables is the load torque and, hence, it is also estimated by the estimator. Using this feature, the applied estimator-based speed sensorless control algorithm may be operated adequately besides varying load torque. In this work, two different variants of the control algorithm are developed based on the extended and the unscented Kalman filters (EKF, UKF) as state estimators. The dynamic performance of these variants is tested and compared using experiments and simulations. Results show that the variants have comparable performance in general, but the UKF-based control provides better performance if a stochastically varying load disturbance is present.

Opis:
This article presents a simple technique of identifying the initial speed that allows for restarting a sensorless induction motor (IM) drive controlled by a model predictive flux control (MPFC). Initial speed identification is required because, according to the research, the applied current-model reference adaptive system (C-MRAS) can restart the IM after failure only if the error of the initial speed set in the estimator is < 25%. The proposed technique is based on short periods of flux generation for the certain initial speed and observation of the estimated torque respond. The direction of the estimated torque determines whether the real speed is higher or lower than the initial one set in the estimator. In two steps, the algorithm identifies the initial speed with an accuracy of 25%. This allows for a quick restart of the IM from any speed, eliminating the disadvantage of the sensorless drive control system with the C-MRAS speed estimator. The experimental results measured on a 50 kW drive which illustrates the operation and performances of the system are presented.

Opis:
This article discusses the most important issues regarding the implementation of digital algorithms for control and drive technology in industrial machines, especially in open mining machines. The article presents the results of tests in which the algorithm and drive control parameter settings were not selected appropriately for voltage-fed induction motors, and where the control speed was not verified by any of the available motoring or simulation methods. We then show how the results can be improved using field-oriented control algorithms and deep parameters analysis for sensorless field-oriented performance.

Opis:
In the paper a new sensorless control structure for the PMSM drive is presented. Such a structure is especially recommended for speed in the range of single revolutions per second (excluding standstill). The method uses a back EMF observer for position estimation. However, there is no need to estimate the speed. This is a big advantage because of possible irregularity of estimated back EMF in this speed range, which makes the calculation of speed difficult or impossible. The proposed structure is similar to the model following control, but the reference model attempts to track the motor operating point. The main idea is to utilize as a reference a model of the whole drive, including speed and current controllers and motor model. Such a model produces reference voltage for the real inverter. However, an extra unit – called rotator – is needed to provide precise control of direct axis current, which is sensitive to the improper position of the voltage vector. The rotator acts as a kind of compensator for error of position estimation.

Opis:
Due to the star connection of the windings, the impact of the third harmonic which does not exist in three-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) cannot be ignored in five-phase PMSM. So the conventional sensorless control methods for three-phase PMSM cannot be applied for five-phase PMSM directly. To achieve the sensorless control for five-phase PMSM, an iterative sliding mode observer (ISMO) is proposed with the consideration of the third harmonic impact. First, a sliding mode observer (SMO) is designed based on the fivephase PMSM model with the third harmonic to reduce the chattering and obtain the equivalent signal of the back electromotive force (EMF). Then, an adaptive back EMF observer is built to estimate the motor speed and rotor position, which eliminates the low-pass filter and phase compensation module and improves the estimation accuracy. Meanwhile, by iteratively using the SMO in one current sampling period to adjust the sliding mode gains, the sliding mode chattering and estimation errors of motor speed and rotor position are further reduced. Besides, the stability of the SMO and the adaptive back EMF observer are demonstrated in detail by Lyapunov stability criteria. Experiment results verify the effectiveness of the proposed observer for sensorless control of five-phase PMSM.
