In recent years, the speech-language pathology has developed dynamically. It plays a growing role not only in the area of education but also in the field of medicine. Teaching correct articulation is just one of possible challenges faced by speechlanguage pathologists. The multidisciplinary context of that field of knowledge can be seen in various subfields of speech-language pathology which have evolved over time. Therefore, the primary objective of the conducted research was to assess the awareness of the importance of speech-language pathologists in everyday life of children and adults. The research was carried out among 50 respondents in the city of Poznań and provided the ground for discussion on the subject being the core issue of the presented paper.

Father Stanisław Wilczewski Ph.D. became famous as a splendid speech therapist, working theoretically and practically for the sake of the culture of the living word and as an esteemed preacher. This paper aims at presentation of his activities that give testimony to his attention to the quality of the preached words and preaching in general. Wilczewski taught future priests a hygiene of voice, which should be communicative with an internal involvement and the experience of the preaching the Word of God and the preaching action. He was one of the most outstanding preachers in the history of the diocese of Katowice.

The article begins the description of the history of a mirror: its origin, creation and use. The article is an attempt to look at a few selected volumes for a child’s addressee, which allows to indicate the aspects of evaluation to the buyers of such editions, and to the publishers to forecast the accuracy of composing such publications. The editorial reading was based on volumes of poems by Jerzy Ficowski, Elżbieta and Witold Szwajkowski, Marcin Brykczyński and Agnieszka Frączek in the context of speech therapy exercises. This editorial reading, also colloquially understood as “reading activity”, focused on the following phenomena: – bold, – italics, – highlighting with colour, – placing the text on a coloured background, – moving the information about the practised phonic sounds onto the margin, – placing the information about the practised phonic sounds and the age of the child in a live page, – font selection (serif/sans-serif), – change of the letter depending on the recipient of a given paragraph, etc. The observations concern the power of the educational (speech therapy) influence of the editorial aterial or the materiality of the book in the meaning of Roland Reuß. One can also try to say that this series of distinctions facilitates working with the text both for the speech therapist and the child. However, one should pay attention to the entire editorial and child-perspective of such editions. Not only the way of distinction itself is important, but the correspondingly clear contrasts between the used colours, writing degrees, spacing, etc. are preserved, remembering the fun and educational function of the type of publication for the child as a recipient, especially with speech therapy deficits.

Due to the lack of a statutory definition and due to the interdisciplinary nature of the profes¬sion of a speech therapist, there have been doubts regarding its classification as a medical or paramedical profession. The above is, in fact, of crucial significance from the point of view of tax provisions, since medical care services provided by medical or paramedical facilities, on the condition of fulfilling specific requirements, can enjoy VAT exemption. Unfortunately, there is no definition of medical care in the EU and domestic law, and the requirements nec- essary to exempt a given service from the discussed tax have not been sufficiently specified. This publication, using a dogmatic method, by hitherto not conducted in literature analysis, was aimed at answering the question of whether medical care services provided by speech therapists are exempt from value added tax. Having achieved the aforementioned objective, the paper explicitly indicates that a speech therapist is a medical profession pursuant to the tax law provisions. The paper also leads to the conclusion that, in principle, medical care services provided by speech therapists are subject to exemption from VAT.

Pandemia COVID-19 to czas, który zmienił funkcjonowanie większości zawodów. Logopedzi to jedna z grup, których praca została w szczególnym stopniu utrudniona. Podczas pracy logopeda powinien mieć widoczne usta – wymóg ten jest związany z koniecznością prezentowania pacjentom prawidłowego układu warg i języka, co jest niemożliwe z maseczką ochronną. Natomiast brak maseczki sprawia, że gwałtownie wzrasta ryzyko zarażenia. W trakcie terapii powinny być widoczne również usta pacjenta, by umożliwić logopedzie korektę nieprawidłowej artykulacji. Założeniem omawianego w tekście badania było sprawdzenie, czy logopedzi podejmowali pracę bezpośrednią podczas izolacji, a jeżeli tak, to w jaki sposób zabezpieczali się przed zagrożeniem. Pytano również o to, jakie zmiany zauważyli u siebie (np. spadek motywacji, złe samopoczucie), a jakie u swoich pacjentów (postępy w terapii, kondycja psychiczna, motywacja do ćwiczeń). Zastanawiano się również nad tym, czy podejmowali się pracy online i jak ją oceniali, pamiętając, że elementem terapii logopedycznej jest również manualne wywoływanie głosek (np. za pomocą szpatułki bądź wibratora logopedycznego), masaż, ale też budowanie relacji z pacjentem, na przykład podczas gier i zabaw logopedycznych. Zawód logopedy charakteryzuje się bliską relacją z uczestnikiem terapii, zarówno dzieckiem, jak i z dorosłym, co może jednak zwiększać ryzyko zarażenia się i wpływać na komfort pracy.
The global COVID-19 pandemic has changed the functioning of most professions. Speech therapists are one of the groups whose work has been significantly hindered. At work, the speech therapist is ought to have his mouth visible to demonstrate the correct placement of the lips and tongue to the patients – which is impossible with a protective mask on. The lack of a mask, in turn, increases the risk of infection dramatically. The patient’s mouth should also be visible to allow the therapist to correct any articulation errors. In the research presented in the text, the author decided to check whether speech therapists have undertaken any direct work with their patients during confinement, and if so, what protective measures they have implemented. During the interview speech therapists were also asked if they have noticed any changes in their frame of mind (e.g. decreased motivation, malaise) and, if they had already returned to work, if they have observed any changes in their patients behaviour (progress in therapy, mental condition, motivation). The aim of the research was also giving an answer to the question, if they had undertaken online work and how they have assessed it, bearing in mind that tactile therapy (e.g. using a spatula or speech therapy vibration tools), therapeutic speech massage and forming a relationship with the patient, e.g. during speech therapy games, are essential elements of speech therapy. The profession of a speech therapist is characterized by a close relationship with the patient, both children and adults, which, during the pandemic, may increase the risk of infection and might affect the overall comfort of work.

The research and opinions regarding the image and self-evaluation of a speech therapist were presented in the article. The issue of his/her identity, education and the cost of logopedic services was raised. The problem of solidarity within the profession of a speech therapist was discussed, together with the role of ethics and role models. The outline of the concept of the speech therapist’s positive image was provided.

The main purpose of the article is to draw attention to the need for cooperation between a family assistant and a speech therapist, which rarely occurs. An assistant is another profession called to work with a family in the area of support. "The main task of an assistant is to support parents in the proper fulfillment of their caring and educational functions and shaping the skills of family members in finding solutions to life difficulties" (Krasiejko, 2016, p. 5). Therefore, work in this profession requires continuous expansion of competences and their adaptation to the needs of those under their care. The article introduces one of the topics that a family assistant can meet in his work and which can be a challenge for him, mainly the topic of the correct and incorrect development of a child's speech. Stages of speech development were discussed, with particular attention to preschool children. The presented description of the course of speech development (normative - delayed - disturbed) will allow the family assistant to catch an early deviation from the norm, draw the child's guardians attention to the need for a speech therapy assessment of speech development and to help in organizing consultations with a speech therapist. As a result of the examination, the speech therapist will decide whether to start therapy and refer you to specialist examinations (e.g. audiological, ENT, orthodontic, psychological).

W środowisku logopedycznym utarło się przekonanie, że do wykonywania zawodu logopedy wystarcza wiedza językoznawcza z zakresu fonetyki. Wynika to stąd, że praktyka logopedyczna wiąże się najczęściej z poprawianiem wymowy osób (zwykle dzieci) z zaburzeniami mowy. Jednak wiedza ograniczona do znajomości fonetycznej struktury języka daje jego wypaczony obraz, zawężony do najniższego poziomu językowego. Jednostki poziomu fonetycznego języka, takie jak głoski i fonemy, są zaledwie budulcem jednostek językowych wyższego rzędu – wyrazów, morfemów, struktur syntaktycznych i tekstów. Do minimalnego zasobu wiedzy językoznawczej logopedy należy zatem włączyć – obok fonetyki i fonologii – podstawowe informacje z zakresu leksykologii i gramatyki, a także wybrane zagadnienia z innych dziedzin językoznawstwa.
There is conviction in the speech therapy community that linguistic knowledge in the field of phonetics is sufficient to practice as a speech therapist. This is due to the fact that speech therapy practice is most often associated with improving the pronunciation of people (usually children) with speech disorders. However, knowledge limited to the phonetic structure of language gives a distorted picture of it, limited to the lowest linguistic level. Units of phonetic level, such as sounds and phonemes, are merely the building blocks of higher levels of the language structure with such units as words, morphemes, syntactic structures and texts. Therefore, the minimum linguistic knowledge of a speech therapist should include – apart from phonetics and phonology – basic information in the field of lexicology and grammar, as well as selected issues from other areas of linguistics.

Logopedzi to grupa zawodowa o wielu kompetencjach. Pracują oni zarówno z niemowlętami, dziećmi, jak i osobami dorosłymi. W trakcie terapii często mają bezpośredni kontakt z pacjentem podczas oceny budowy i sprawności aparatu artykulacyjnego, masażu orofacjalnego, ćwiczeń artykulacyjnych, kontroli odruchów niemowlęcych i wielu innych czynności. Pojawienie się obostrzeń związanych z pandemią wirusa COVID-19 sprawiło, że wielu logopedów rozpoczęło pracę online. Niniejszy artykuł opisuje badania przeprowadzone wśród logopedów dotyczące zdalnej terapii logopedycznej.
Speech therapy is a process that requires the involvement of the therapist, the patient and (in the case of children’s therapy), parents. Classes include diagnosis during which pronunciation is assessed as well as the functioning of the speech organs and their anatomical structure. During therapy the speech therapist often needs direct contact with the patient in order to call up the sound (manually or with a spatula or speech therapy vibrator), massage the face or articulation organs, and show (by touch) where the tongue should be while uttering the sound. Online speech therapy is therefore a new and difficult challenge for speech therapists as until now working directly with the patient has been their main activity. This article presents the results of a study by 205 speech therapists who answered questions about online speech therapy and compared it with inpatient therapy.

Over the last few years considerable progress in medicine and the emergence of multispecialist teams have tightened the relationship between medicine and logopaedics. The aim of this paper is to discuss selected aspects of the cooperation among laryngologists (mainly those who specialise in oncological laryngology), and phoniatricians. I will present the selected aspects of this cooperation, among others aims of a speech therapist (a member of a multidisciplinary team of specialists) in therapies that can help people with cancer of the mouth, nasal cavity, larynx and throat; and people with professional dysphonia.
W związku z olbrzymimi postępami w medycynie i tworzeniem się wielospecjalistycznych zespołów w ostatnich kilkunastu latach zacieśnia się związek logopedii z medycyną. Celem artykułu jest omówienie wybranych aspektów współpracy logopedy z laryngologiem (przede wszystkim specjalizującym się w onkologii laryngologicznej) i foniatrą. Zaprezentowano wybrane aspekty tej współpracy, między innymi zadania logopedy – członka interdyscyplinarnego zespołu specjalistów – w procesie terapii osób z chorobami nowotworowymi w obrębie jamy ustnej, jamy nosowej, krtani i gardła oraz osób z zawodowymi dysfoniami.

The author presents some reflections on the issue of training carried out among speech therapists in Poland taking into account one of the disorders, namely peripheral dyslalia. In the following sections of the paper, the writer depicts a catalogue of problems which, according to the author, should be found in the training scheme. At the same time, the author deals with the specifics of the method of formalising the disorders in the area of phoneme realization in speech therapy composed with phoniatrics. She indicates the original character of the area of study and of the practical activity in speech therapy.
Autorka przedstawia rozważania dotyczące kształcenia logopedów w Polsce, biorąc pod uwagę jedno z zaburzeń, a mianowicie dyslalię obwodową. W poszczególnych częściach opracowania prezentuje katalog zagadnień, które powinny znaleźć się – zdaniem autorki – w programach kształcenia. Jednocześnie podejmuje rozważania ukazujące specyfikę ujęcia zaburzeń realizacji fonemów w logopedii w porównaniu z foniatrią. Wskazuje też na oryginalny przedmiot badań i działalności praktycznej w logopedii.

Rehabilitacja zaburzeń głosu, którą autor traktuje jako gałąź emisji głosu, gromadzi wiedzę i praktykę umożliwiającą niesienie pomocy pacjentom z zaburzeniami głosu. W związku ze wzrastającą liczbą osób z zaburzeniami głosu o różnym podłożu istnieje potrzeba kształcenia wyspecjalizowanej kadry zajmującej się tego typu pacjentami. Wprowadzenie specjalistycznych programów kształcenia w tym obszarze przyczynia się do podniesienia jakości opieki nad pacjentami z zaburzeniami głosu. Specjaliści rehabilitacji głosu to nowa, wysoce wykwalifikowana grupa zawodowa, posiadająca profesjonalne wykształcenie w zakresie diagnozowania i terapii różnorodnych zaburzeń głosu. Dodatkowo w artykule autor postuluje także wyodrębnienie emisji głosu jako oddzielnej subdyscypliny logopedii, mającej swój przedmiot badań, cele oraz zadania. W dalszym rozwoju emisji głosu niezwykle istotne jest opracowanie terminologii specjalistycznej, będącej podstawą do formułowania kolejnych celów badawczych, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem rehabilitacji zaburzeń głosu.
Rehabilitation of voice disorders, which the author treats as a branch of voice emission, gathers knowledge and practice to help patients with voice disorders. In view of the increasing number of people with voice disorders of various origins, there is a need to educate specialised personnel dealing with such patients. The introduction of specialised training programs in this area contributes to improving the quality of care for patients with voice disorders. Voice rehabilitation specialists are a new, highly qualified professional group with professional training in the diagnosis and therapy of various voice disorders. In addition, the author also argues for the separation of voice emission as a separate sub‑discipline of speech therapy, with its own research subject, goals and tasks. In the further development of voice emission, it is extremely important to coin specialised terminology as a basis for the formulation of further research objectives, with particular emphasis on the rehabilitation of voice disorders.

The paper entitled Logopaedics at the University of Warsaw is composed of two sections. Section one discusses profi les of the following linguists: Jan Baudouin de Courtenay, Tytus Benni, Witold Doroszewski, Halina Koneczna, and Irena Styczek, whose academic research and organisational activity contributed most to the formation of the research on speech acquisition, development, and disorders at the University of Warsaw. Section two presents the history of establishing institutions training speech therapists at the University of Warsaw: Podyplomowe Studium Ortofonii Szkolnej (Postgraduate Studies of School Orthophony), Podyplomowe (later: Pomagisterskie) Studium Logopedyczne (Postgraduate Studies of Logopaedics), and various organisational forms and frameworks of training speech therapists as part of full-time programmes.
